Record screen with buttons at nonrooted A2017G - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Hi there,
as my original Axon 7 that I bought 1 year ago has been killed by a water damage, I luckily got a brand new one some days ago. I rooted the first one instantly when I got it, so I decided to try out stock system for a while.
However, on my rooted A2017G I was able to record the screen by pushing power + vol up buttons at the same time. Is there any way to do this with a nonrooted phone?
I already tried some apps from the playstore, but they all use on screen buttons.
Btw, I'm using an A2017G with android 7.1.1 and build-number A2017GV1.2.0B08, as I mentioned not rooted and BL locked, so just stock software.
Any advice about this would be great, as I actually don't want to root or unlock bootloader on this phone, as I might be selling it in the next few weaks.

For screenshot, use power & volume DOWN.
Also the MiPOP app cannot be frozen for screenshot to function. (this is based on the 2017U, but I suspect yours is the same)
Goodluck.

well, the stock LOS recorder only puts a notification on the statusbar for you to stop recording. i guess you should be able to install it on stock too

Anybody else experiencing this?

Within the last couple days I noticed that my power/standby button doesn't always work. From time to time I will try pressing it and I will try holding it, and randomly I will hear the camera shutter sound and it will take a screenshot! Weird... I just flashed SC 2.8 today and the problem was still there. Anybody have this happen/have suggestions on how to fix it?
I know when you take a screen shot with 2.8 you hold the back button and hit the power button.
Just try to flash 2.8 again.
The screen shot thing is part of Android 2.2 I believe, but I've been having the same issue and I'm on stock/deodexed/debloated EB01. I can never tell if I just don't press the button enough or if the button truly isn't working. I agree with k rock though, clear cache, wipe dalvik and try to reflash it.
This is good news....I was looking for the answer to this....I knew it was possible but wasn't sure how to accomplish.
Happens to me too.
i haven't updated to 2.8 yet, but i know making the power button take pics in camera mode was added as a feature in one of the earlier sc versions. i'm on 2.4, and i haven't had any issues with the button not working, though.
i want to disable it ...its annoying...can someone pls tell us how?

It might be possible for you to use root explorer to just kill the app, ScreenCaptureService.apk, I don't think this will break anything else since its just a system app. Worst case you have to reflash 2.8. Maybe just try moving it first so you can put it back if you want.

I believe this to be true. I read somewhere you could do that but never tried because I imagined somewhere, sometime I'd want to use it. The screen capture has been available since DL30 (you're supposed to hold down the Back button while then pressing power, this always works for me as long as you wait just a bit before pressing power button), but based on what has been posted here and my own experience, it seems to be buggy (i.e., taking screenshots when you don't want it to/have not even pressed the back button - for me, I couldn't get the power button to do anything after having taken a picture accidentally until I tapped the Back button once)
I haven't had the bug since moving to SC2.8 though (a couple days ago, I'd normally get a couple unintended screenshots a day).
Its been my experience that sometimes the soft keys at the bottom of the device have a mind of their own sometimes. On many an occasion my back button specifically will activate two or three times all on its own

Yes, this has happened to me. I am guilty of not wiping between SC2.6 and SC2.8, though. There has been just enough goofy behavior that I think I will do a wipe later today and re-Odin the SC2.8 tar file on to my phone.

Question:
What locking feature are you using? pin, pattern, password, glass slide?
Voodoo or non

N7 keeps taking screenshots

Hello, community!
I have this N7 3G and the problem is that it keeps taking screenshots whenever I press the Power button, without even holding down any of the volume buttons.
I don't know whether this is caused by my custom ROM or any of my applications .Also, I set the gallery to sync with a Dropbox folder, that meaning that those ss' will upload there every time.
If anybody can help me solve this problem I will be grateful!
*I am using Temasek's custom CM Rom with Franco's kernel.
Thanks!

Nope, it isn't. I can press it and adjust volume normally.
I am pretty sure something is causing this, probably an application, but if there is anyone using the temasek's rom just as me, please tell me if you encounter this problem to know whether this is caused by this rom or an application.
mine too
Earlier i went into my gallery and i saw a lot of screenshots that i didnt take.
I don't even know how to take screenshots on N7

Normally you take screenshots by pressing the Power button along with the Volume Down button, not only the Power Button alone.
Other methods are taking them with different applications or maybe your ROM could do that too.

Double tap power camera not working

Hi all,
I'm running stock 6.0.1 rooted with Xposed (only using gravitybox). When I do the double tap on power to launch the camera, nothing happens other than the power button functioning normally. It did work at one point but I'm not sure if it was an app, Xposed or a system setting which stopped this feature from working. Has anybody else run into this or have a few ideas to try? I tried disabling Gravitybox but left Xposed itself still installed. I've also tried changing the "Power buttons locks instantly" setting under Security but that didn't make any difference either.
Thanks
Try reflashing the vendor.img.
I'm rooted with stock rom, camera would start but not show any picture and you couldn't do anything with the app. I reflashed vendor.img now the camera will work ONCE after a reboot. Also check to see if your flashlight works.

If you used traditional root and flashed the boot.img from an older version, it breaks camera for all apps. I had to switch to systemless root to fix the camera.
Also, just verifying that you are using a 6p not a Nexus 6, as your signature states. This is the 6p forum.

Gosh darn it. I feel dumb now but I swear I spent 30 minutes going through the settings menus trying to find if there was a setting for this. Needless to say, it was turned off somehow (probably by me accidentally) and turning it back on makes it work perfectly fine.
Thanks!

After updating to Nougat, double click stopped and the setting was off for me as well. But I don't feel dumb. I think whoever in Google thought this was a good place to put this setting should get that privilege. I don't know how I found that setting when I got the phone originally, but I can pretty much guarantee that I read that somewhere and enabled it. No way I went to Display Setting to find how to quickly start the camera app.

Screen is always on - Help? [SOLVED?]

Hello!
I am unable to turn my screen off. When the phone tries to sleep and the screen turns off then it immediately turns back on in a loop forever. The same happens when I turn it off by pressing power button. I have done stock revert via odin and factory reset and the issue persists. I also have tried few other roms and wiped everything. what can I do? Please help me, thank you!
Phone model: Samsung galaxy J5 (00fn) 2015
Currently on stock 5.1
In the logcat screen goes off around 10:12:22.492 and then back on at 10:12:23.012
For others having the same issue; I found a 'better than nothing' solution. Google play - "screen filter" app. First set the icon in a place u remember at your home screen and then set 'screen filter' percentage to lowest and run the app. Voila! If you use a custom rom that supports it or have rooted your phone then you can assign a hardware button to launch that app on/off and if not then use "button mapper" from play store.
OK. I think I have solved this for good(?) On my phone. I have managed to get my screen working NORMAL without using screen filter about five times in a row now after installing new ROMs. If this method works for others I would be glad to hear. This might sound a bit odd but the method goes like this: first thing after installing a ROM I download the screen filter app. Then I press it on and off once. Then I assign the app to long press recents button and I disable all functions from home button except for 'double tap = home'. Then I long pressed the recents button couple times and after that let the screen dim and go off by itself and now my screen works!! I can remove the screen filter app and change the hardware buttons back and it works even after reboot! Unbelievable! Please share your thoughts if this worked for you also. BTW I'm now using resurrection remix official by SoUnd001 so at least for this ROM this trick works. (Customizable hardware buttons make this easy)

Hello!
I've checked your logcat, but I don't know what's the issue due the lack of knowledge. There seems that these two lines appear right after lines related to the display:
Code:
E qdutils : int qdutils::getHDMINode(): Failed to open fb node
E qdutils : int qdutils::getHDMINode(): Failed to find HDMI node
There is also some errors regarding lights.
My questions are:
1) Did you modify that stock ROM in any way or you've been running stock ROM + stock kernel as it is? If you did modify it, what modifications did you make? If you used stock as it is, then the software shouldn't be the culprit for your issue.
2) You've been using screen filter apps before for long time? If yes, maybe this could be the problem. When I've checked the comments at a screen filter app in past, i did read that it harmed the phone of some people. However, might be fake comments as well. You can also search on Google something like: "android does screen filter harm?".
@#Henkate I also noticed those errors but couldn't find out the cause. Thanks for trying to solve!
Q1. Yes it was pure unmodified stock ROM flashed via odin. The issue was still there so I figured it must be hardware related BUT after flashing TWRP I noticed that the screen worked fine in the recovery ie dimmed and went off normal.
Q2. I hadn't heard of the 'screen filter' app before this issue. I think this app actually fixes my issue although the problem returns after installing new ROMs.
Thanks for support! :good:

This is kinda weird. Well, as long as that workaround works...
I also thank you for changing the thread name to "solved" and posting the solution/workaround! There aren't many users like you which does these two things, at least at J5 forum.

OK Google while AOD (Screen off)

Hi there,
Is there a workaround or a root function to enable Always On listening for 'OK Google' while the screen is off/AOD?
It is really bugging me but I cannot see a workaround already posted.
Thanks!

I have that setting enabled. It works on the lock screen where you can swipe to unlock, but not on the darker lock screen, where it shows the time and the outline of your notifications.

I have enabled them options. It works on the light lockscreen, where you can scroll your notifications and have the 2 icons in the bottom corners.
It does not work on the darker lock screen, or the Always On Display screen, where it only shows the time and the outline of notifications you have.

Works here as it should. With AOD and without. Are you rooted? If you are try other ROM. If you are not, try reflashing stock firmware with Odin or with Side Sync or whatever Samsung kies is now called.

Same for me Dan, works after you swipe but not from AOD, every tutorial I have seen says the same, has to be "open" before it will work.
Bixby will unlock from the AOD screen if you set that up, hope that helps

It works for you because you are using a Note 8 ported ROM. Because Samsung enabled this feature on the Note 8. It will not currently work on the stock S8 ROM. Some people seem to be in a server side test to enable this feature though.
Okay, I see.
Does charging not stop at 80% for you because you are rooted?

It's best to think of the always-on display as "Screen Off", which is why OK Google doesn't work on stock ROM. That's standard Android procedure to avoid draining the battery by always listening for voice commands.
At one point, Google Assistant was able to listen when the screen was off, so long as the phone was being charged. Unfortunately, that feature disappeared at some point in the past half year or so (which caused me some confusion when it stopped working and I could no longer find the toggle).

That's not true. It still works on a Google Pixel running stock Android with the screen off and not charging. You never had to have it plugged in or charging for that to work. Samsung is the ONLY Android phone I know of that OK Google doesn't work with the screen off.
