Anyone working on a Root?

I see theres but one root thread on this device and even that one is just for beta testing and not stable. Is there anyone working on getting this device rooted?

I haven't tested this so don't take my word on it, but a user on the Moto G4 Plus forums with a XT1622 (normal moto g4) used this guide and rooted their phone. This relies on the G4 Plus build on TWRP working on the G4 which I don't know if it does

The same as any other phone.

Surprised nothing been out already, quite a popular and decently priced phone.... will keep my eyes open for updates

stock 7.0 is possible!

If the Moto G4 play running the same chipsets as the Moto e 2015,gets the official 7.0 update from Motorola then following could happen:-
Some generous developers out there will try to port the official stock ROM from the harpia to our surnia , hence making our device to get "identity crisis" like ROM which was seen some time ago for the devices like the original Moto g ported from Moto g2.

No chance. It not got 6.0.1 update. Moto g 3 runs on same chipset as moto e 2015 4g. G3 got 6.0.1 but e2 not.

Even for now g3 isn't getting stock 7.0

The Moto G4 Play has a Snapdragon 400, and this phone is a 410. So no, it is not possible.
Edit: maybe I'm wrong. Must be a typo on the G4 Play XDA thread, it says 400, but specs elsewhere say 410.
If it does get N and someone finds the firmware, I can see what I can do with it. I ported a Moto G 2015 mm stock, but the camera doesn't work at all.

I doubt it has a 400. That's what the first gen Moto G had.

Motorola likes sticking a phone to quite a unique Android version no. And so I think they didn't update e2 4G to 6.0.1 plus that minimal update doesn't bring too much of changes!

Look guys this is seriously possible!
You might find it the desicions done by Motorola regarding the Android update programme impossible to believe but believe me; even if they update a single 410 chip based device then it's a must for sure that the our wonderful family of developers will surely try to port the best of Moto's software even to our ignored devices!

Stock Recovery and possibly Kernel for XT1621 needed

Hello! So, I'm going to update from MM to N. I have TWRP and ElementalX installed and I wondered if any of you have the flashable zips or img's of the stock Marshmallow 6.0.1 for the XT1621 or another working ver.
I know I could download the firmware and just flash the both of them but my internet is not capable of downloading large files. I want to say that I have backed up the "Boot" partition with TWRP before flashing ElementalX but I don't know if this could help. I'm sorry if these files where to be found in this forum since I can't find them.

EDIT: I couldn't update to Nougat officially. As I said, I used Xposed, and some other apps that modify the System Partition. I found a Lineage OS ROM that had everything I wanted, in Nougat. It's working perfectly now! The battery life is so much better! If you want a link, PM me. I'll be pleased!

Dumb Question
Hello, I am new to XDA, and I've been looking all over the internet for the answer to the following question: Is the Moto G4 XT1621 same or similiar to other models on XDA? i.e, I have a Moto G4 XT1621 but all I see is ROMs for XT1641 or higher, even if they are the same. Can't even find root for this phone. I know the phone code is same (ATHENE) but I don't want to jump ahead and try and so something when I may not have the community's support for rooting, custom ROMs etc..
Can someone just help me by letting me know if flashing TWRP for Athene would work on XT1621 (RetLA, DualSIM) as it would on an XT164x etc. Thanks.
PS: if on the wrong thread please direct me to the correct one, there's not much info on the main G4 Menu...

It will work just fine, the process for flashing TWRP is the same for all xt16xx models.
After flashing TWRP you can flash a custom kernel like ex kernel and root your phone using any method for it.

HELPP!!! Porting Pac Man Rom Gives me an Error (Error 7)

Hi Guys! So, let me explain.
I'm new to this whole thing about rom porting and i really wanted to expand the library for my Moto G4 Play, because i always wanted to channge the roms and play with the phones a littlebit, but the pones i used didn't have support.
So, i like Pac Man Rom (and im sad that is outdated) and i wanted to port it to the Moto G4 Play because i didn't saw it anywhere.
In the first time, i got a build and i was euphoric to install it but when i got it on the internal memory and tried to install it, it gived me the following error:
Error 7: "System partition have unexpected OTA after update"
Please, if you can help me solve this problem and solve it that would be awesome.
Im going to upload the rom zip so you can play and tell me what's happening.
The android version is 6.0.1
Base rom: Lineage 13
Moto G4 Play (Harpia)
Test Phone: Moto G4 Play XT1607

Installing G4+ ROMS on regular G4 (XT1626)

Hi there guys!
I've been wondering if I can install G4+ roms on my xt1626 (regular G4). I know that probably someone already asked this but i couldn't find anything about it on search, so that's why i'm asking.
And if i can't, is there an explanation? Like "oh the camera modules are different" or something like that.

OK so i feel stupid now as i found my answers, used "search all post text" with "regular g4" and ta-da, got what i needed: yes we can install G4+ ROMS on regular G4 but not all of them, so be careful.

All of the ROMs for the G4+ can be flashed to the G4 too as far as I know. At least I haven't encountered any problems with my G4 on a G4+ ROM.

With my moto G4 all ROMs work fine

I have a XT1622 (Moto G4 Dual SIM) and am trying to install any Oreo-ROM on it but didn't succeeded yet. I'm always stuck in a bootloop. No matter if format system -> installing ROM -> install GApps -> reboot, full wipe -> install ROM -> install GApps -> reboot, full wipe -> wipe system -> install ROM -> install GApps -> full wipe -> reboot or any other solution. No matter if 32 or 64 bit.
That are my free time activities for three months or so. So sad...
(I'm flashing since 2007 on multiple devices, actually my XT1622 runs LOS 14.1)
