updating apps on root - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

I recently rooted my samsung Galaxy s7 edge using a method from here. It had me turn off auto update apps so I ask can I not update the SuperSU app and flashfire app? Or can I not update any app? The method never really explained why to turn off auto update apps so I'm curious.

You can update regular apps.... like YouTube, Facebook, etc... I know they recommend not updating supersu, but thought flashfire was fair game

Please provide the link you used to root your Sprint S7 edge device. Is your model SM-935P. Does rooting fix sim lock issue?

I used https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-s7-edge/how-to/successful-root-g935u-g935uueu4bqd2-t3598647 method, and yes its SM-G935P but its using SM-G935U firmware. I do not know what the sim lock issue is.

[ROOT] PingPongRoot ***S6 Root Tool***

Straight from galaxy s6 forum!
I'm pretty sure this doesn't work on the Edge yet unless you tried it and it worked?
I've tried. It started in the OP that it's not for S6 Edge because of different in the kernel and issues with charging or something but that the vulnerability should still work just needs more investigation.
Shouldn't be long..
Problem is, will it be available before we are forced to update to the 5.1.1 update which will most likely ruin any chance of rooting.
Also wonder if rooting will stop the auto updating tactics they use as they may cause people to lose root.
Why would you be forced to update?
I have never seen an update that was forced on users for android yet.
Plus you should always be able to Odin back down.
I have done it multiple times with my s5

Many Thanks
Hey guys, I rooted my Edge with PingPong but now it doesn't go into deep sleep. I checked BetteryBatteryStats and it says the phone has been awake 100% of the time. I rooted my previous Edge model with CF auto root and it didn't go into deep sleep either until someone posted something for us to flash with Odin. Idk if that'll work this time since it's a different root method and if it will trip Knox because I'll be flashing something over Odin. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

My problem was that I hibernated Google App and it messed up the Android Wear app. It's fixed now, thanks.

Does Magisk / Systemless work with our root?

In short, Pokemon GO's new update is just taking a massive dump on it's rooted supporters and we can't play the game on the new update. Would our root be able to hide it and allow it to played on our phones with root, still?
Rooted s7 edge.... Pokémon go running strong. No issue. App is up to date.

Are you on the new update with the buddy system? Cause the update didn't full rollout yet...
No, must not have rolled out in America. Are you running xposed?

Yeah I am, but I read somewhere that Magisk requires an unlocked bootloader, but I don't know if the Systemless portion is different.
Most people would say, forget the game, and keep root, but I'd like to keep both, as I've put a lot of time into the game to have this crappy company screw us like this...
If xposed and Pokémon is incredibly important to you I suggest trying the following. There's a work around for snap chat. Same scenario. You have to install and log into snap chat before installing xposed. Get it to build cache so it doesn't do the device check then install xposed. Profit. I'm not sure but it's worth a try.
I had it working then it ****ed my phone up couldn't get it again

The problem is that the new version of poGo is using the same SafetyNet check that Android Pay does to check for root.
Apparently, the only thing that works for this is Magisk (at the moment).
The latest Pokemon Go app is using SafetyNet checks, so this goes far beyond the Snapchat workarounds.
Ah. I wasn't aware don't have the update yet
Just got it...

Accurate.
So the question is can we flash magisk with flashf ire?
Or would something like rootcloak possibly work?
More and more every day I hate niansh*t and it feels like it's no different than if crapple themselves have made the app.

Root Cloak won't work. I tried that on 2 different Samsung phones :/
I'm on tekx rom and when I tried to unroot via SU my s7 edge would only boot into recovery... so I restored a backup.
It's awefully silly to keep rooted users from playing. Seems like they run out of ideas to find GPS spoofers lol
I have rooted my S7 Edge SM-G935F using chainfire-auto-root ODIN method
^ New Pokemon Go update does not work with this root method - I have used rootcloak from xposed - also does not work. You need to root using MAGISK so here is my question.
1. How do I unroot my phone that I rooted using ODIN Chainfire-Auto-Root file?
2. How do I root S7 Edge SM-G935F using "MAGISK" so i can play pokemon go after this new update?
has anybody tried rooting S7 Edge SM-G935F using MAGISK method yet? does it work? please reply and please give a guide or step by step i am a newb

I'm afraid I have to tell you that over on reddit the developer of magisk said that Samsung devices are only supported if they're on a "custom" kernel.
Although I don't know at which point a kernel stops being stock :/

So... You're using the NEW version with the buddy Pokemon and able to use Xposed/Joystick as well and... actually login!?!?
If so... How did you do it?
I'm curious as well. I had to reflash back to stock due to bootlooping so I'm a little more interested in this subject now that the icy plunge or returning to stock has already been made.

Is the SM-G935U Unlocked S7 Edge rootable?

Hey guys... I have an S7 edge duos and I want to switch to Verizon but my phone isn't compatible... so I was thinking about selling it and getting the US unlocked version (SM-G935U). Is there a root for this phone? I'm thinking kingroot might work but I haven't found any posts via google search to confirm. Thanks ahead of time.
There is using a engineering kernel, but it give bad battery life and performance.

Got Samsung S7 from work

I tell yea, coming from LG , HTC, Sony of the world, I hate this thing. I NEVER seen this many bloatware on a phone. absolute junk experience
But I love the AMOLED screen, I am a sucker for COLORS.
So I am trying to see what is best way to remove bloat. From googlin' it seems like carrier s7 are not rooted.. can anyone help me point to right direction for all-in-one root kit or instruction..
Much appreciated

If your still on MM then you can root.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s7/how-to/root-s7-att-g930a-g935a-t3410538/page129
I use Package Disabler Pro to disable around 30 apps/services, it does it without root.

If you update to nougat then you will loose root. Use titanium backup to freeze the att update. If you do decide to update you can still downgrade using Odin to flash the APK1 firmware. (Or at least i was able to)

tethering on the S8 950U

Hey guys, just wondering what everyone is doing as far as a tethering option now that foxfi isn't working.
I read something about a temporary root. Would this allow tethering again as long as I don't restart the phone?

There is no temp root for the snapdragon version of the phone
I purchased the unlocked variant us model of the phone. No provision check on verizon, stock app works. You could install the unlocked firmware if you wanted.
