Hey guys,
Any idea why every time I flash LineageOS with the most recently nightly ZIP via TWRP, Google Play Services (and everything to do with Google Play) stops working/crashes in the reboots that follow?
I've tried a) wiping caches in TWRP and b) reflashing OpenGApps to no avail.

I have a Nook Color with CWM v3.2.0.1. I've tried both gapps for 4.2 w/CM10.1 and gapps for 4.3 w/CM 10.2, and in both cases I get a successful install of everything EXCEPT the Play Store (other g-apps are there - gmail, calendar, contacts etc.)
I'm fairly experienced with flashing custom ROMS, etc. but I'm making no headway on this. Things I've tried:
1) reset,wipe cache/dalvik ; flash cm 10.1; flash gapps-jb-20130812; with and w/o wipe cache/dalvik
=> No Play Store
2) reset,wipe cache/dalvik; flash cm 10.2 nightly (from 09/23 most recently); flash gapps-jb-20130813; with and w/o wipe cache/dalvik
=> No Play Store
3) reset,wipe cache/dalvik; flash cm 10.2 nightly; flash UltraSlimGapps_JB4.3_CM10.2 (supposed to have ONLY Play Store); wipe cache/dalvik
=> No Play Store
Interestingly - a successful case:
4) reset,wipe cache/dalvik; flash cm 10.1 encore; flash gapps-jb-20130301 <<= older version ; wipe cache/dalvik
=> Success! - but, I'm really trying to get to 10.2
I can side load things, of course, but that's not very convenient. Also - I did try side-loading the Play Store APK, but that seemed to not recognize my google account config.
My goal is to get to 10.2 nightlies with a working Play Store. My question is
Does anyone have any ideas on how to work through this?
Thanks for any help,
Roger

For one thing, if you are going to be messing with flashing a lot of different versions of gapps, you need to do more than just reset. You need to manually wipe /system. The reason is that the installer script in each of the ROM zips saves the previous version of gapps and reinstalls them. So the only way that you can be sure that the previous gapps are gone is to format /system before flashing anything.
I'm not saying that is your problem, but it is worth trying.

I'd try the successful "4) reset,wipe cache/dalvik; flash cm 10.1 encore; flash gapps-jb-20130301 <<= older version ; wipe cache/dalvik"
Then flash CM 10.2 with gapps-jb-20130813 and wipe cache... should leave you with CM 10.2 and correct gapps with working play store

Well, this got me partway there, so thanks for that. I'm now stuck with the "No Connection - Retry" problem in the Play Store that others have reported with 10.2. I've tried removing/recreating my google account, wiping cache and Dalvik, checked my hosts file, stopping/clearing Google services, etc, all with no luck. I'm still researching alternatives, but I should probably carry this over to one of the threads on that problem.
Thanks again!

Hey guys,
i recently unlocked the bootloader of my VNS-L31 on B160 Firmware and afterwards rooted it, rebooted, everything ok. Then i did a factory reset in TWRP. Afterwards the SuperSu APP was gone and the Google Play store wasn't working anymore... Anyone with the same Problem?
Pretty strange thing.. I suggest you to install again the stock firmware or to try something like Google Services Installer.
Another thing you could do is to do a backup of the system partition, then flash pico package of Open GApps (Arm64).

Just FYO... I solved this by flashing stock recovery, doing a factory reset there followed by booting and instaling the google konto, then flashing twrp and rooting lol...
Hello everyone, after doing a clean installation with any rom with android 8.1 and installing the gapps I always have the same message, google services stop.
Any solution?
Thank you
Faced this in one OREO rom recently.
For ROM installation do this >>>
Wipe Dalvik, System and Cashe then
Flash ROM + Gapps
thank you, it's the process I follow for the installation, that's why I was asking.
Hi folks,
I need some help. I have had my X820 I ordered from bangood for about a month now. I have tried a variety of ROMs on this device, and twrp-3.2.1-0-x2.img. This morning I tried to give the latest lineageOS a try. I did the typical wipes, and flashed lineageOS & gapps. After reboot google play started to throw all types of errors.
I booted back into TWRP, and this time it would only mount in read only. I tried the trick to change the /data partition fron ext2 back to ext4, did wipes again, installed ROM + Gapp, reboot but still have crashing playstore and google background processes.
I went from an already installed AICP to LOS. I did do a complete TWRP backup of AICP beforehand. The weird thing is that if I do a complete wipe again from TWRP, and do a fresh install of Pixel Experience [AOSP] all works normally. And after I did another wipe from TWRP after Pixel Experience, and restored my AICP backup all is working fine now both in TWRP & AICP. Has anyone had something simular happen like this before?
You have to install the latest unofficial TWRP build in order to use see your /data partition with the latest LineageOS installed. It's indicated on the thread's FAQ.
I just tried upgrading my phone to the latest nightly from one that was in January, should have made a backup but I didn't. The phone boots and regular apps work fine but anything to do with Google or Google Play services keeps crashing. I have tried wiping system, dalvik-cache and cache and reinstalling OpenGapps multiple times with no success.
The stack trace from almost all google apps is a
Code:
SecurityException, Permission Denial: opening provider com.google.android.gsf.gservices.GservicesProvider from ProcessRecord ... requires READ_GSERVICES and WRITE_GSERVICES, Parcel.readException ....
I assume its to do with my Gaaps not being installed properly. Also, when I updated and installed the latest Gapps, all my google accounts disappeared and I am unable to re-add them or get them to sync.
I am running
Code:
LineageOS 14.1 20180620-NIGHTLY-axon7, Android Version 7.1
OpenGApps build -
Code:
6/23/2018 Nano ARM64 Android 7.1
Is there anyway I can fix this issue without wiping /data.
Don't be worry, because I've got some Playstore crashes since 2 or 3 weeks with the stock rom. (Nougat B10 Axon 7 G never rooted).

Did you flash the gapps right after flashing the system, or did you boot first and then install gapps?

Booted first. I'm just going through and re-installing all the google apps and they seem to work after that.

That's your problem right there. You ALWAYS have to install the gapps package right after installing the ROM.
Just wipe system, then flash everything again + the gapps. way better than having everything on /data as you do right now
