I have a Nook Color with CWM v3.2.0.1. I've tried both gapps for 4.2 w/CM10.1 and gapps for 4.3 w/CM 10.2, and in both cases I get a successful install of everything EXCEPT the Play Store (other g-apps are there - gmail, calendar, contacts etc.)
I'm fairly experienced with flashing custom ROMS, etc. but I'm making no headway on this. Things I've tried:
1) reset,wipe cache/dalvik ; flash cm 10.1; flash gapps-jb-20130812; with and w/o wipe cache/dalvik
=> No Play Store
2) reset,wipe cache/dalvik; flash cm 10.2 nightly (from 09/23 most recently); flash gapps-jb-20130813; with and w/o wipe cache/dalvik
=> No Play Store
3) reset,wipe cache/dalvik; flash cm 10.2 nightly; flash UltraSlimGapps_JB4.3_CM10.2 (supposed to have ONLY Play Store); wipe cache/dalvik
=> No Play Store
Interestingly - a successful case:
4) reset,wipe cache/dalvik; flash cm 10.1 encore; flash gapps-jb-20130301 <<= older version ; wipe cache/dalvik
=> Success! - but, I'm really trying to get to 10.2
I can side load things, of course, but that's not very convenient. Also - I did try side-loading the Play Store APK, but that seemed to not recognize my google account config.
My goal is to get to 10.2 nightlies with a working Play Store. My question is
Does anyone have any ideas on how to work through this?
Thanks for any help,
Roger

For one thing, if you are going to be messing with flashing a lot of different versions of gapps, you need to do more than just reset. You need to manually wipe /system. The reason is that the installer script in each of the ROM zips saves the previous version of gapps and reinstalls them. So the only way that you can be sure that the previous gapps are gone is to format /system before flashing anything.
I'm not saying that is your problem, but it is worth trying.

I'd try the successful "4) reset,wipe cache/dalvik; flash cm 10.1 encore; flash gapps-jb-20130301 <<= older version ; wipe cache/dalvik"
Then flash CM 10.2 with gapps-jb-20130813 and wipe cache... should leave you with CM 10.2 and correct gapps with working play store

Well, this got me partway there, so thanks for that. I'm now stuck with the "No Connection - Retry" problem in the Play Store that others have reported with 10.2. I've tried removing/recreating my google account, wiping cache and Dalvik, checked my hosts file, stopping/clearing Google services, etc, all with no luck. I'm still researching alternatives, but I should probably carry this over to one of the threads on that problem.
Thanks again!

The procedure is:
1. Format the system, data & cache partitions of your device.
2. Perform a factory reset.
3. Flash CyanogenMod.
4. Optional: Install the Google Apps addon package
Hope that helps!

Same here. Something is wrong
what version of clockworkmod are you using? you may try downgrading to version 2.5.0.7...
I installed cyanogen nightly 7.1.x (253), two days ago and then flashed gapps with no problem on latest clockwork recovery. Try open your gapps archive with winzip or rar, maybe it is corrupted?

Perfect!!!!
Thanks, that helped me too.
I flashed a new ROM using Philz CWM but I cant install anything from Google Play as it says its already installed.
I did wipe data/factory reset as well as wipe cache partition before installing the rom.
I believe my old apps are still installed but I don't know how to remove them.
Answer: Downloaded GApps from wiki.rootzwiki.com/Google_Apps and flashed in CWM.
I am sure this is a stupid question, but I've looked and not found a definitive answer so I'll try here.
I have a LG G2 (AT&T) which I have rooted/clockwork/CM11. I did most of it when I had a failed OTA send me into a bootloop. (I had rooted the stock and removed some bloat which it didn't care for). I love CM11 however, there are some issues with the M5 build that I think are solved in the nightlies.
My questions are as follows:
(1) If I start flashing nightlies am I going to loose everything on my phone?
(1a) If so? How do people handle nightly flashes and always having a phone that needs setup?
(1b) If not, how do I flash the CM rom? I assume through recovery like I did before.
(2) Is there an easier way to backup and restore my setup to my phone?
(2a) I have titanium backup, and I have backed up all system and apps. However, I am not sure if restoring that will mess things up after flashing.
So basically, I'm looking to find out how people use the nightly builds and still have a mostly functioning phone on a day to day basis?
Thank you!
Before flashing a nightly for the first time:
You will need to wipe cache, dalvik cache, and data (user data--not internal storage).
Updating to the newest nightly:
You will only need to wipe cache and dalvik before flashing the new nightly. You will not lose your setup or apps. CM has its own OTA app that will automatically install new nightlies via your custom recovery (CWM or TWRP)

Thanks! I'm new to CM, and the thought of wiping my phone every evening was kind of scary.

Yeah once you're on nightlies, it's not a big deal. But after your FIRST flash of the nightlie, also be sure to flash the correct GApps package, which includes apps like the Google Play Store.
I've got a Galaxy Nexus GSM. Downloaded ROM via AFH through paranoidandroid.co. Wiped data, cache, and dalvik cache.
I flashed in 4.41 Final without gapps. I don't think it asked for my Google account info at first boot, but gmail, hangouts, play store, etc. were in the drawer.
Can someone verify?

Did you have Gapps before install PA for example from previous ROM? If you didn't wipe system, your previous Gapps weren't removed.
We don't host the ROM on AFH... What's hosted on AFH is the gapps

Dirty flashing?
Assistance for gapps
Reboot to recovery
Do a BACKUP!
Format system partition, Data , cache.
Do a install of your rom.
If gapps is not fount download it (The latest version and specifically for your android version)
Install the zip if necessary
Check if the problem is solved
You didn't wipe the system partition from whatever ROM your coming from, which in my guess means they're still in the /app or /priv-app folder.
Hello, I've flashed cyanogenmod 12.1 onto my galaxy S4 and installed gapps, but getting a Google play has stopped along with other Google services. Can anyone let me know what I'm doing wrong? Steps I did:
1. Go into recovery
2. Wipe data/factory reset
3. Installed cm-12.1-20150927-NIGHTLY-jfltexx.zip from download.cyanogenmod.org
4. Install gapps from opengapps.org (ARM/5.1/Nano)
5. Wipe cache partition
6. Wipe dalvik cache
7. Fix permissions
8. Reboot
Thanks!
Maybe it's the fix permissions part.

Yes I also tried without that step but unfortunately the same errors.
After switching over to TWRP, everything works! So if anyone is having the same issue, switch to TWRP.
Yea twrp is recommended for flashing cm rom especially latest version
