Did the Oreo Update fix headphone hissing issue? - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

Some people are reporting it did and some are saying it did not. So creating a poll.
Is there hissing in basic 16 ohm earphones. Don't use impedance adapters or high impedance headphones

What's this ohm business? Are 16ohm higher quality than my 46ohm SoundMagic E10C? I got no hissing in said earphones

Mos earphones are 16 ohms including mine.

Quality == higher ohms.
16 ohms are general earphones. More ohms more money.
This is generalized statement. I am aware there can be exceptions.

Confusing poll..
Topic: "Did they fix it?" No.
Question: "Is there hissing with low impedance headphones?" Yes.

You have hissing in your bluetooth headphones? That's weird cos AFAIK the hissing is only on the 3.5mm jack...

For me the hissing has been minimized. It's still there but barely noticeable compared to before. The audio output seems to have been toned down a bit though; it's not as loud as in nougat.. but don't get me wrong, it's still louder compared to other phones (compared it with a Redmi note 4x)

Bluetooth has normal quality, but external speaker and jack are hissing. I have bluetooth headphones but I don't use them wirelessly

This hissing is a pretty standard Xiaomi feature I think, lol. On my Redmi note 3 it was extremely horrible, especially when using aux. On this phone so far I haven't noticed it, atleast not to the same extent as the RN3

TIDAL with HI-FI DAC LG V20

I want to know if TIDAL uses our HI-FI Quad Dac. I'm thinking about paying for an account if it could play HI-RES files from my v20.
Is it worth?
Thanks for your answers.
hi
I think what you was need HiFi Format from Tidal ( FLAC/APE/CUE 24bit/96 khz - 192 khz ) and too High Impedance earphones ( over 50 ohms )

Not sure why people keep thinking high impedance means better quality. All it means is it makes the sound much louder at lower volume.
People keep talking about ohms while not understanding what that actually is. I suggest looking up ohms law, then grab a clac.

Why would you even make a comment like that?
HiFi works on low impedance as well. That's also seen by the free B&O earphones we got that are 32 ohms. Again, ohms aren't a factor on music quality.
The DAC and earphones/headphones make the difference in quality.
You can buy an awesome pair of earphones for 1K that are only 34 ohms. Yes they are worth the money if you have it.
All ohms are for is how much power you need. That's it.

Now that you mention it, I have had the opportunity to try the B & O and the headphones of a Nubia Z11 as well as the Headphones of a Huawei equipment and certainly the B & O headphones have the worst performance comparing them with the previous ones., Well as you say it is a subject of DAC / Earphone

I love the B&O, but that's always going to be subjective.
https://usa.1more.com/collections/headphones
I do imagine the $200 version would be much better then the B&O. Also giving more base which the B&O lacks. I know many people hate B&O due to the base really lacking.

I had both Tidal and Spotify , cause Sprint gave me a 6 month free trial of HiFi Tidal.
Honestly Spotify sounded better with the use of an equalizer, Tidal was just OK but their app just isn't as well developed as Spotify for my taste.

the 1more previous version which are only 99 bucks are pretty damn good, yes the latest version is slightly better (Very slightly better, IMO not worth the extra 100 bucks)
I'd skip those and get the older ones.

Thing is, I'm not sure if tidal or Spotify is taking advantage of the quad DAC. When the LG V20 First came out, LG's own music app was not. Then came an update and LG's own music app started using it.
I don't know if it still holds true, but I think LG's stock music app only takes advantage of it.

I got a pair of Sennheiser IE8, they may not be high impedance, but still a good pair of in-ear headphones.
My question is: Does Tidal outputs HI-Fi sample rate/bit-depth to headphones via Sabre DAC?
Or does it downsamples to 48kHz 16-bit like the most media players available in Playstore?
Thanks dudes.

the B&O included on our phone were the low/cheap version. altough some people claim that the US variant had B&O H3 which are better. and i agreed to the person above, big impedance doesnt mean its better, i once join auidofans gathering on my region and some guy showing his tia fourte and guess what? that damn IEM only had 16ohm impedance and costing 3500k$ ( i could buy a damn car/motorbike/great pc gaming with that money) and the sound quality? damn man, it really blows up my heads. meanwhile, i also tested some guy's ks 500ohm and v20 easily drived it when other phone ( iphone 7 and S8) need external dac/amp to use it.

Honestly, I think it down samples like other media players.
That's why I stick to the stock LG music app. The other option is to root and use V4A. Then you can use anything and not worry.

I got the H3. They are entry level audiophile grade earphones. That's why people don't recommend them for the price they cost. At that cost, there are many mid entry-level earphones that are much better. Since they were free, I'm not going out to buy anything else since to me they are "good enough". When they break, I'll buy something that's mid entry-level earphones.

Well IMO it does, as simple as switching the DAC On/off and you can hear the difference... at least I do.
I gotta back up Broken, I have 9 ohm shure se846s on an adapter that bumps it up a few more that kick major ass if tuned correctly, what you're forgetting is most crappy poor built head/earphones are lower impedance and anything with high ohms. Use quality parts, that dont mean some low ones have quality. Most people are confusing the dac as only good in high mode which isn't true, bout all 500 ohm headphones are gonna be awesome if given the power to do so. They have heavier less easy to move parts which can have more precision, but require the power to do so, i have a subwoofer that has a 30 pound magnet behind the driver but also a 3000 watt digital amp and the woofer barely moves by hand, so when power stops it stops w/o flapping if that makes sense. Just cuz ur $30 earbuds suck don't mean they all do. There's benefits of high and low impedance which i will not get into.

that's called "damping factor".
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damping_factor
I would hazard a guess that you'd need a lab instrument to have conclusive evidence whether Tidal was using the Q-DAC or not, so that you can eliminate the audio quality perception of different loudnesses. This issue frustrates me, to know what apps and services actually give us the sound quality we want!
I have used Tidal for a year now and it is worth the $20 for me sounds killer. I happen to use the 1more 3 driver earbuds and love them too.
The tidal app sounds way better than spotify. I asked my wife to use tidal for a week and she said the spotify sounded terrible when she went back so now uses tidal. I also use the v20 for my home audio system and a big difference there too. If you don't invest in good speakers, buds, or phones don't waste your money.
No worries about the ohms stuff if your buds or headphones need the extra power to drive them they will have a higher impedance and the v20 will adjust accordingly.
I'll never get a phone without a hifi dac and headphone jack.

Is the hissing sound solved with oreo update?

When I first bought the Mi A1, I had to sell it because I found the hissing sound in the headphone unbearable. Is it still present in the oreo update? Since amplifiers are analog devices, I dont think software updates can solve it but if it is fixed somehow, I will surely buy it again
Instead of selling it, you should've bought good quality headphones.

Is it still present in oreo update? I tried it with a lot of earphones like cx 275s, xb55ap, samsung IEMs. I see a lot of people think the hissing i because of the high powered amp of A1. I can tell you that just because it has a high powered amp does not mean it will have hissing sounds.
Only poorly designed amps produce hissing sounds. There must be some sort of shielding issue with the amp circuit.

I use boAt Bassheads 225. There is little to no hissing now. It was almost non-existent on the December patch that was received earlier. It has slightly Increased by the second December patch. Also, there is almost no hissing when listening to music by some music player. But the hissing can be slightly heard when watching videos on YouTube.

what are the good earbud options t at doesn't have hissing with Mi A1 ?

so i like the phone and i don't want to return it just cuz of that , so i decided to buy better earbud , what are my options? ear buds that lies deep inside ear and not HeadPhones that goes around it .. i want to know the best suggestions that prices aren't that high and have no hissing .. thanks in advance .
I'm currently using Faaeal Narcissus and I don't hear any hissing sounds. It costs $27 at Aliexpress, but if you want something cheaper, I suggest you try the 64 ohm variants which you can get for as low as $8. I assume that these 64 ohm ones would have very minimal to no hissing.

I think any over the ear headphone with impedance greater than 32 ohm will have any issue
On another threat it said that even Apple Ear Pods (45 ohms) experience some hissing. Apparently the higher the better, it should support up to 600 ohms.
Consider that another headset might have inferior sound quality, depending on how good your current cans are (and some very good headphones have some very low impedance). So even if you get rid of the hissing, you might pay a price in overall quality.

It's a great phone don't get me wrong but I don't know why xiaomi used a ""high end dac that needs high impedance headphones""
You have 2 options
1- get headphones with higher than 32 ohms
2- Lower treble and increase bass to drown the hissing (Use Viper4Android FX equalizer if you have root)
It can pretty much hide most hissing sounds
I think it is good thing they put DAC in Mi A1, it just makes phone more superior than other phones. We have great cam (Gcam), premium feel build, 3.5mm jack thanks to God and Dirac HD. nope, the funny thing is that using the best xiaomi headphones, like the piston 3 or the hybrid hd i get a so intense hissing sound that it is barely usable in calm situations, which is pretty much when i need it
so nope, spending more money is not what is needed
by the way, hybrid pro, impedance = 32 ohms, pistons 3 impedance = 32 ohms

Hope for a fix one day...
Hey, just to clear some things out. To fully eliminate hissing you will need hi-fi system that costs more than $300 and a HQ sound such as FLAC. Don't fool yourselves with this hissing thing, I bet 99% of you didn't noticed hissing at all on the other devices you had, but now when 1 person states that he/she hears hissing on MI A1, everyone else will hear it as you will focus more on hearing hissing noise. IF no one mentioned hissing all of you wouldn't be commenting about it. Yeah, hissing is a bit more present because of 10V DAC, but for example 32Ohms earbuds as mentioned above will fix it, but you must use better bitrate for listening, 128kbps MP3 isn't good enough. 256 or 320kbps is pretty much enough for this built-in DAC
The reason why you hear hissing is because your headphones are overpowered. Get something that isn't crap, like actual headphones instead of $20 earbuds.
My god, the problem is with the phone not the headphones. It should work with every headphones like the rest of phones do, and yes I have very good headphones and I have already tried to use this phone to watch videos but it's unbearable.

There is no problem. Xiaomi decided to put more powerful DAC. Someone will like it, someone will not, It's the same with leaving audio jack on smartphones, someone is ok with it someone is not. For me the sound on this phone is excellent.

The 3.5mm jack / Quality,Dac

Hello.. Im just going to buy Redmi note 7 global version, but I've an important question that confuses me...
I know than note 7 has 3.5mm headphone jack. my previous device (mi 8 lite) had not 3.5mm jack, but the USB-C to 3.5mm cable had a perfect sound quality.
I have an HiFi Eafphone, but I don't know, that note 7's headphone jack will handle my earphone?... Is the smartphone has any dac/amp ?.. or it has a poor 3.5mm output with a low quality sound... I know power of the Mobile's speaker, but... How about the headphone jack?!.. please, someone help me and check this item..
Thanks a lot..

I know... But, i need to figure out how is the quality with a HiFi earphone.., like Shure se215...
Far as I know dac is integrated in Snapdragon 660, so that is not bad. My tests show that output is louder than My Huawei P10 what was quiet, so output should be ok, remember that if You want good, loud sound don't use headphones over 32 Ohms. Sound quality is worse that P10. Sound is muddier, not that clean and rich, high frequencies are harsher. Sound by comparison can be equal to pc integrated sound card.

If you use low quality earphones, than it'll be low quality like your comment though.
Hi ! first of all sorry for my english xD
Got my RN7 and after some web/review read and investigation on the phone, the DAC is ensure by sdm660sndcard , and there is an Amplifier 10V (named MAX98927 in app but also read smartpa 98937 on web...) don't know about other built in DAC
The option "Mi Sound Enhancer" that could be found on "sound and effect" menu seems do very good job with the preset Generic and EQ on FLAT. (I don't like sound effect) Concerning this option I read about no sound effect/EQ but impulse correction/magnitude... I can't say exactly but the difference between the two sounds very like amplification... On Bose earphone 100€ the sound quality is crazy good
And of course disable basic audio player app and go for a good one (i use Aimp for exemple) with flac files
You can choose LDAC for audio codec, as well as aptx. Pretty good sound with headphones

Thanks friend. I bought Note 7 and it will arrive in few days
"On Bose earphone 100€ the sound quality is crazy good"... it's Good with "Mi sound enhancer" or without that?
And... I am using flac files with Huawei player right now.. if you right, the sound will be good in shure earphone too... And i hope so.
Thanks A lot for answer. :highfive:
With option enable sounds pretty good, i putted setting on "General" cause my earphones are classical (no intra) but you have to try it. Also there's an in built equalizer but i set it on flat (all on 0)
Tell us what you think of it after tried !
hello, the sound is very good with the jack. I use poweramp which supports reading 24 bit flac.

I found some interesting stuff regarding the redmi note 7. Snapdragon 660 uses its own integrated dac which is awesome. My headphone is IEM by Mee Audio Pinnacle P1 which has impedance of 50Ω(very high). They are difficult to drive by normal phones but redmi note 7 drives it well without any external dac+amp. Since it can drive a 50Ω headphone I think it can play any other IEM with ease.
I posted something today regarding this here

i have rn7
compare with mi8lite it's output quality not bad but volume is very less!! I'm disappointed ..both dongle and type c headphone on mi8lite are better ..so what i do?
change my phone with mi8 lite?
I use the RN7 with a pair of KZ ZS10 «AND VIPER4ANDROID» to play Spotify, Tidal and Deezer music and the sound you can get from it's just mind-blowing (obviously in my personal opinion)... The default sound eq is just trash, but you can do some great stuff if you know how...

If you use an external DAC you can use it on every compatible phone and it will sound the same, since the digital signal is equal in every case unless you use some sort of equalizer... So the DAC will sound the same in the Mi8 or in the A2Lite (just to give an exaggerated comparation)... If the quality of the sound is not good enough for you, you can use a Bluetooth DAC or a higher quality USB DAC with a better pair of headphones/earbuds
Remember, viper4android does magic and same is with rn7 (i use some jbl earphones which comes in the box with a lenovo phablet -probably cheap sh*t). The sound was not bad with inbuild sound settings but not really deep and clear. With v4a im satisfied
