I'd say on the contrary, I use a battery charge limiter which requires root, i limit the max charge to %75 that way the battery is extended greatly and I disable it if i know im going to be away from a charger for more then a few hours

I would say root actually increases your battery life, if you use the right tools.
For ex use a kernel manager to disable unecessary swap, zram. Use greenify for apps not needed running in the background.
Change running cores, I/o scheduler.
With all these tweaks I was getting a pretty standard 9-10%SOT per hour. Roughly translates to 7-8hrs screen on time

yes, there are also other optimization like noatime!!!
issue is each time there is a ota update you must do stuff to disable root, do the update and then reapply the root and possible, needed a new file to root it after the update.
for what i understood, i dont have root atm, im considering it.

[Q] LG G2 Questions: Battery and root

Can someone please help me clarify these:
1. I read somewhere that the battery needs to be charge between 40% to 80% to prolong the life of the battery and to avoid charging until 100% or else the battery will degrade. I really want to be careful with my battery since it is my first non removable and if ever i changed it with a new one, I may void my warranty by opening the back cover. I have 2 year warranty.
2. In regard to rooting, I want to know if I decided to unroot in the future (btw, I am on stock unrooted), will LG know or will the root status stay on the phone? After reading from the lg g2 root thread, it seems that some people are having trouble getting rid of the root status despite successfully unrooting it. Can someone who has success in rooting and unrooting without root status post the thread they followed.
Thank you. You can ask me if some parts are unclear.

1. yes, that is true, but these batteries are designed to last 4-5 years and unless you plan on keeping your g2 for that long, the degradation of the battery shouldn't be anything to worry about and you shouldn't really go out of your way to minimize it
2. Unfortunately, when you root your device it trips rootchecker (unique to lg devices) and it is (so far) irreversible, but if you have problems, an (extreme) solution may be to break the bottom left of your screen, that way they can't see ROOTED in download mode(not recommended :laugh

1. So I can just charged it until 100%? And my battery seems to not last longer than my first 3 charges, that is why I am starting to worry. In case I did something wrong or my battery has defect. Also, is there a need to fully drain the battery at least once a month? There's so much debate regarding that and varied opinions. In your experience, what do you think?
2. Does this also apply in an international G2 version or only for Verizon? I have D802.
Also, what is your normal, highest, and lowest temperature in C or F?

1.it depends if you are having horrendous battery life(could be a or just want to improve it slightly you could try clearing batterystats.bin when below 10% and then switching the phone off and recharging it up to 100% while off
2.It should apply to all phones.(i have a d802 as well)
3.My battery is usually about 25-30C, but i have been to 35C without it exploding in my face :silly:

I also came here looking for an answer to the root checker problem and just like every other thread on this subject, some say it is irreversible and some say it can be reversed.
I guess it's just a crap shoot.

You decide if you want to believe those who have fixed their phone's status or those who haven't.
OP: forget everything you ever heard about treating your battery right. Worst case? You spend 20 bucks in two years from now on getting it replaced (it's easily replaceable, search for it on xda).

Are you implying that he is a liar?
How do you check the status? I am using a Singapore bought D802 and have not seen any root status in the settings
You need to go into download mode by switching your phone off then holding volume up while plugging in the USB from your computer, it should then say rooted in the bottom left

What I'm implying is that one person got it done and the other one failed to do so. It's possible but you have to get it done.
For my experience with iphone, i charged when only 10-15% left for regular cycle, less than 10% for full cycle once in a month. It works for me for 3-4yrs but do not use while charging w/c is very hard but effective.

rooting and battery life

I Just received my note 3 about a month ago (broke my note 2 was upgraded to a 3 by insurance )
My battery life is just simply unbelievable i can go all day play game run apps and in still at 85%
My question: If I root my note 3 will I change , improve , or destroy my battery life . I have run stock root on my note 2 sprint ( my battery life was not to great on it , but i used app killers and I used autorun manager pro ) I root mainly because I want to use adaway but I am willing to live with ads if I can keep this kind of battery life.
any thoughts
Root, by itself will not bring such results, but things that root allow you to do, maybe can (improve or not your battery time). You can perform a debloat process, this can improve your battery a little; you can change your kernel, this can improve or reduce your battery time. Well there is a lot of things to do when you are rooted and every one thing you do, it's yours responsibility to learn and be sure about what you are going to do. With some reading and modifications you can achieve some remarkable results.

Why root and install a custom rom?

When I had my old S4 and S5 it was obvious why a custom rom was important as TW ran so poorly. However on this phone with stock android I'm not so sure. Why would I want to install a custom rom on this phone?
because it's android.

Mainly for the added functionalities.
You can either stay on stock, Motorola has a close-to-Vanilla Android, and root to be able to install Xposed Modules (Gravitybox,...) to modify it however you want. There's Marshmallux which is a custom ROM based on the stock firmware but it has been debloated and added some functionalities.
For the rest of the custom roms, no need to present them (CM13, RR,...).
Personally, I have tried them almost all and I'm getting back to marshmallux mainly for the battery life which is amazing :good:
All of the roms out there are good
What brom25 said.
If all you care about is a stable working phone with good battery life and you are happy with the stock performance, don't change anything.
If you like to tinker with stuff, and try rooted / xposed applications, then by all means, root away and have fun.
For me I wanted to take battery life to the next level and managed 0.4%/hr stand-by on this phone. But doing this was both a challenge and fun thing for me to do and enjoy doing that crap.
If you don't, no need for it.
If you like stock android and don't need any apps that requires root access, keep your warranty. I only did it because i like to tweak with kernel managers to save some more power and applying themes on stock android (layer manager).

How can we increase battery life after rooting?
Use betterbatterystats or gsam apps to monitor @ identify wakelocks/alarms/service that are running while phone is in standby or idle then use paid version of amplify app to limit or disable them.
Flash different kernel and play with different cpu governors to get the best balance between performance and battery life according to your preference.

First of all battery is already outstanding compared to other phones, but you can even get a little more (1/2 hours) if you flash another kernel or tweak the stock kernel settings.Since android 6 i think you dont have to worry about strange wakelocks anymore. The new battery optimisation does a great job and if you have an app that wont sleep you can simply use the free version of greenify (no root required).

Rooted Battery life worse than stock?

Hi xda family
What has everyone's battery life been so far on root?
Preroot I was getting over a day with 6sot and 16 percent
Android drain.
After rooting with the eng kernel it has dipped a lot with high android system drain. Have not used amplify and greenify yet. Just been used my tweaks I did on pd7 kernel.
Thoughts?
Amplify will probably help out a lot. I've seen others reporting the battery is worse after rooting as well. Hopefully someone nails it down and posts a fix. If not, I'll see what I can do once (if) I decide to root.
Yeah I can literally watch my battery % drop after root. I noticed 46% of use is the android system. I'm also getting lots of random reboots.
You guys rooted with an EngBoot that was not intended for daily use, this is one of the side effects.
Yeah the ENG-BOOT is a terrible way to achieve root. I really hope that this tiny victory doesn't cause people to stop looking for real root. The ENG-BOOT is not meant for daily use is going to cause lots of issues, it's designed just to push fixes to the system for an authorized repair shop.
The focus should have always been on the bootloader.

Wow 46 is high. To be honest for eng kernel it's been stable. No lag and reboots for me. I am debloating and doing a few tweaks and making it settle in some more. If I can get to 4 sot I will take that.
Also I have heard if you your governor set to on demand it will cause reboots. Using interactive and been solid.

I recommend checking out this thread:

TEK knows what he's doing, so I'm sure this will at least help with battery. This, plus Amplify and BBS+ should at least help get battery close to where it was before root.

+1 it runs a lot cooler than the normal stock rooted. And way smoother without have to tweak anything with kernel. It's basically plug and play.
Keep us informed please

dam we got root now? I didnt even know
With all the different tweaks now available through root, the battery life is quite excellent. The only concerning thing is how hot this phone can get at times (after a reboot, gaming, downloading an app) that I may be doing great harm to my batteries life in the long run.
okay so,
the engineering kernel's default governor is performance and that's the only thing that's causing the heat issues and thus, the throttling of the CPU cores to lower frequencies resulting in lag/stuttery performance. that's all you're experiencing. thinking that apps are using more/less battery than usual is silly.
after wiping data and cache and going through the horribly slow setup process, I used kernel adiutor to change the governor back to interactive (NOT ondemand) and let the phone finish settling/syncing. after 2 days, it's back to its silky smooth performance and all-day battery. I don't see anyone experiencing anything other than symptoms of the performance governor.
btw, it took the same amount of time for my phone to stop being laggy when I first bought it. so literally all you need to do is change your governor back to interactive if you want the performance/battery life you had before, and zero heat issues. antutu scores 110k-138k depending on temperature/throttling. just like it did before. battery gets 4:30-5:30hrs SOT just like it did before.

I used kernel aduitor too till I found out my big core were maxed at 1500 also just like the little cores and you can't change those with aduitor.
Once I installed kernel toolkit, I confirmed it.
So I bumped up the big cores max and got much more speed back. No heat here
Food for thought.

S7 Edge Battery Life after root is worse, due to Kernel / CPU usage?

So just before I continue this I want to say that I have Trickster installed and have done all the tips and fixes for root on the phone, and I notice that my battery drains pretty fast when in use.
I just was curious if it's cause of the Verizon version I'm on (before PE1) would anyone be able to tell me their battery life after root and give me any tips other than the ones already posted?
And please if you require more info on my battery stats, please ask, and I'll give you guys whatever you need.
Thanks in Advance.

I went back to stock after having almost all the possible modifications to enhance battery life on root. One small tip is that if you flashed the V15 fix zip, you didn't need to change governor settings manually. Even so, no matter what I did, I could only get to about 3 hours of SOT by the end of the day even without GPS use and all that before the battery is drained. After restoring stock, I'm seeing my usual 4-5 SOT of daily usage.
I'd rather wait to see if root is improved without the high CPU usage because of eng boot, from what I was told. Good luck.
I too have noticed decreased battery life though I can offer no suggestions to fix. I just downloaded a CPU control app to play around with. Right now I am able to get through the day so thats all that really matters, but its definitely decreased from before root.
