Trouble flashing nethunter kernel on G900v - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently successfully rooted my Verizon Galaxy s5 (G900v) using the following guide:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...oot-method-t3561529/post71202995#post71202995
and attempted to install Kali Nethunter using the following guide:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/unified-development/kali-nethunter-galaxy-s5-t3298477
which tells me to "Install kernel-nethunter-klte and nethunter-generic-armhf-kalifs-full-rolling zips in any order"
edit:
After some more trouble shooting, the kernel would still not install, but after a reintstall of nethunter, the terminal is working, and a basic walk through of the tools was very promising, but it still says I have the old kernel, I am happy and confused.
The nethunter-generic-armhf-kalifs-full-rolling went in just fine, but the kernel-nethunter-klte ( I tried several different releases) tells me either that it is an unsupported device, or that the boot block cannot be found.
The phone boots, and looks like Nethunter, but I can't use the terminal, and presumably, the other tools. I would like to get the kernel flashed in and get this working, thanks for any help or advice.

You ever get the kernel to work? Can't get any support.

Question About Software Error Message

Hi guys. Not new to rooting but new to my AT&T S4. I rooted it tonight with Motochopper and installed CWM recovery. Downloaded and tried to flash a ROM, and it simply didn't work. Then I tried Beanstalk 4.2.2, and it downloads, but then when I rebooted it, it gave me the yellow triangle unauthorized software message. So I pulled the battery and finally got it to boot into recovery, then installed the back up I had from the stock OS. My question is two fold-what's causing this and if I download a ROM with the Loki patch, will that bypass the error message I'm getting. I searched the forums but am not understanding what was written. I'm pretty confused, any help would be greatly appreciated.

So, to sum up development in this forum for the last 3 months: The ATT version of the S4 has a locked bootloader, which is a fancy way of saying ATT and Samsung don't want custom software on their phone partitions. To keep people from installing custom ROMs, their bootloader requires a verified signature present in the ROM to actually allow the device to boot.
An individual found a way to trick this verification process, and created a patch for it called LOKI.
When a ROM is "Loki'd" it contains this workaround for the verification process in the bootloader, allowing custom software to be installed.
To answer your question, when you root your phone and install the recovery (TWRP or OUDHS): a ROM must be lokied to work. OUDHS recovery has a feature which automatically installs the workaround in every ROM you flash using the utility. I recommend this version of Clockwork Recovery.
The link is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2291956
I personally use the nightly CyanogenMod 10.1 builds for the ATT S4 (called jlteatt). They're quick and stable except for a few quirks with the camera, call-audio via headsets, and bluetooth audio.
The link to download is here:
http://get.cm/?device=jflteatt
*This version of CM 10.1 is already Loki'd
Have fun flashing, and if all else fails and you accidentally run into a scenario where you can't boot your phone, use this utility to restore the factory OS that comes with the phone.

OK, thanks very much. So I was indeed on the right track. I'll try your ROM recommendation as well as the modified CWM recovery.

[Solved] Best way to root a completely stock D801?

Just got my T-Mobile G2 a few days ago and have been looking around at the different ways of rooting it. I know the T-Mobile variant is harder to root and run a custom ROM on because IORoot doesn't work on the KitKat OTA, so I haven't updated it yet. Right now the phone is running the D80110C firmware.
What I'm asking for is a way of being able to get the phone to the point where I can flash any 4.4.2 ROM compatible with it (even if it needs patches). Looking at both dr87's guide and utesred's guide, I'm thinking I need to take the following steps:
1. Root the 4.2.2 D80110C firmware (currently on the phone) with IORoot.
2. Install latest version of TWRP. Need suggestions on how to do this.
3. Reboot into TWRP, wipe everything (minus internal storage), flash SmiLey497's 4.4.2 ROM and the SU file. I gotta do this all in one go or it will complicate things.
4. Reinstall TWRP using AutoRec.
5. Go on to flash something like CM11 or Mahdi-ROM.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
EDIT: Alright, I got it! Just followed my guide and the recovery install method suggested by XxZombiePikachu and everything worked great.
Can anyone assure me that this will work? Or even share a quick run down of what they did? Thanks!

that is all correct also install recovery guide
Ok, everything's rooted and running just fine! Installed CM11 and the KitKat modem with rotation fix.
For anyone who finds this thread in the future, here's the zip of stuff you need to flash TWRP the first time, just make sure to pick up IORoot25 as well, since that's what I used to for the adb. Second time around (once you have the rooted KitKat LG ROM installed), use AutoRec. Here's a link to the KitKat modem you might need if you flash a ROM and auto rotate doesn't work.
I'm not responsible if you screw up your device. This all worked for me, so I'm just sharing the steps for prosperity. Make sure you ready all the threads and guides I linked or mentioned, use OEM cables, use a USB 2.0 port that is actually connected to the motherboard in your PC (not a hub, pass-through, or front case port), as well as being focused at the task at hand. Disabling your anti-virus might help too, used to have to do this when rooting older phones, so it might still be necessary.
If this does work, have fun with your newly rooted LG G2 D801! :good:

Kali NetHunter 3.0 on Nexus 7 (2013) - flo

Hello there !
After a long time of searching I wasn't able to find anywhere a proper guide to install Kali Nethunter on Nexus 7, mainly the lasted release of it (3.0) on newer androids (6.0+) or CM13, so I decided to make this quick guide to cover some aspects that it thought would be important if you wanna jump into this.
First things first:
Disclaimer: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LOST YOU HAVE, PLEASE REMEMBER TO ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR SENSITIVE INFORMATION AND PERSONAL DATA!
What is NetHunter: Kali nuthunter is based on Kali linux and has most of built-in tools to security audits and penetration testing. More information can be taken here: world wide web dot kali dot org/kali-linux-nethunter/
History: I've been trying to install nethunter on mu nexus 7 without succeed for the past 3 days. Last year I had already accomplished this task in another version of nethunter (1.2) and android (CM12). Recently, I decided to go back to security works and realize that offensive security have been working it's ass off and since than released a newer version, and I was already in stock Marshmallow (6.0.1) android, so downgrading wasn't an option for me.
I tried to install nethunter(Like in the past) with a tool called MultiRom (Available for free in PlayStore), that allows you to run multiple roms on your device (dual-boot feature like). But unfortunately I couldn't. I just couldn't and it was driving me crazy.
Got errors like:
Slow boot (on secondary rom - Nethunter)
Missing root (Supersu)
Freezing
So if you are facing this problems here is the solution I have to make it works.
Solution:
Install the last stock rom for your device (In my case, Nexus 7-flo that can be found at developers dot google dot com/android/nexus/images)
Then use fastboot to apply your stock rom (Attention: This step will format all your DATA!):
Code:
$ adb reboot bootloader
(Remember to enable USB DEBUG)
once in bootloader run:
Code:
./flash-all.sh
After flashing the stock rom, proceed to ROOT you device. (If you don't know how, you should not be messing with any of this, but if you want to anyways.... google it!)
Then, after rooting your device install busybox(for free in playStore)* and install its components.
Now, install a custom recovery (For this, I will use TWRP)
Go back to you bootloader screen with the comment before mentioned and run the following command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery your_recovery.img
Then, copy the Nethunter file downloaded from world wide web dot offensive-security dot com/kali-linux-nethunter-download/[/url] to your device and flash it with the help of your recovery (TWRP or CM Recovery).
Luckily, if everything goes as expected you should succeed in installing nethunter 3.0 on your Nexus 7 device (May be applied to other Nexus devices)
Bottom Line: Try installing Nethunter on your stock rom, instead of a custom one. Then, if you want to, you always can install Multirom and install a secondary ROM like CM13 to be your daily use ROM.
Any Questions and suggestions are welcome, sorry in advance about any english mistake (Non-native speaker here!).
*: Optional Step, can be done later.
So your external card is detected? I wiped everything and reflashed about a gazillion times, all works fine except it simply won't detect my card. I guess I can try older Android version as i've only tried 6.0.1 so far... doubt that would do the trick though

[VK810] InvisibleK's Lineage 14.1 ROM for the VK810 Verizon GPad 8.3

Hello all, I have recently run across InvisibleK's ROM for the VK810, with LineageOS 14.1! This is my first post after years of lurking XDA, and thought to make a thread here since this is not mentioned anywhere. It appears to function normally on my VK810, but took a bit of finagling to get it to install correctly. For the most part, this ROM is pretty buttery smooth for being on such an old tablet, and it breathed new life into my old G Pad 8.3.
My steps to installing:
0. Get on 11A/Android 4.2.2 using a KDZ, or, if you are already, just go to step 1.
1. FROM 11A/Android 4.2.2, Root and install TWRP 2.8.7.0, following the guide in the forum
2. Wipe everything except internal storage/SD Card
3. Install the ROM
4. Install GAPPS
5. Reinstall recovery (TWRP 2.8.7.0)
While installing, the ROM's ZIP threw a few errors but it was still successful. The only things that seem to not work is cellular -- the cameras work, however, I have not tested Bluetooth.
URL to where the ROM is:
download invisiblek org/roms/lineage-14.1/vk810/
EDIT: I got it to install, but a heads up this kills the accelerometer.
Anyone have another download to this? It doesn't appear to still be present on the original linked site
edit: found it, updater invisiblek org/vk810
Hello Invisiblek. I have a Vk810 that I have flashed to your Android 9 lineage_vk810-userdebug 9 PQ3A.190705.003 1388 dev-keys. Ver. 16.0-20190726-UNOFFICIAL-vk810.
But here I am stuck. If I try and flash any newer roms, my tablet freezes during boot not getting past the Vz preload screen. If I try and flash the twrp in your repository for flasing these roms, I get the Security check error and cannot boot recovery or rom. I was able to use twrp 3.3.0 to get this far.
Got any tips to get me past this point?
(I started by doing a fresh .tot flash of 4.2.2. Then used Stump root to root. DD'd twrp 2.8.7 to recovery.
Started in 2.8.7. Updated twrp to 3.3.0. Restarted into twrp. Wiped everything but Internal Strg/Sdcard.
Flashed Rom (current), reflahed twrp 3.3.0 just in case then restarted.
Trying to flash any Romz newer then this results in only being able to boot to twrp. Flashing vk810-recovery-eng_bumped.img results in Secure boot error for twrp and ROM.
Am I running into any 64/32 bit problems? I hate being stuck on a 32 bit rom
More In-Depth install Instructions:
[VK810.4G] [altev] OTAs, .IMGs and KDZs, oh my (and one 22B TOT too) updated 4-6-2016
Thanks to everyone over the past almost six years who helped me get to the point where I am so far. Glad to help others in what ways I can. Thanks to bweN diorD for his Verizon LG G3 VS985 repository. Inspired me to do this for the VK810.4G...

I need help flashing TWRP (so I can install a custom ROM)

I have an old Galaxy S4 that I purchased several years ago from FreedomPop. I'd like to put a custom ROM on the phone. I don't plan on placing the phone on any carrier's network. I'll just use it on WiFi for some personal tasks. I can't get the phone to boot to TWRP, so I can install a ROM. Below is what I've done. I hope someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong.
The phone is a Galaxy S4
Software Version: L720VPUGOK3
Hardware Version: L720.08
Device Name and Model Number: SPH-L720
Android Version: 5.0.1
I do have it in developer mode with USB Debugging turned on.
In the security settings, I do have Unknown Sources allowed.
I successfully used Odin to flash the "L720VPUGOK3_L720SPTGOK3_L720VPUGOK3_HOME.tar.md5" to the phone.
In the TWRP application on the phone:
I chose the device "Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini Sprint".
Back on the main screen, the "current device" shows as "serranoltespr"
I have downloaded the "twrp-3.6.2_9-0-serranoltespr.img" for flashing to the device.
Whether I try to flash it to recovery or boot, I receive the message, "Flash Failed!"
Notes:
When I run "Minimal ADB and Fastboot"
When I run "fastboot devices", nothing is returned (but I understand Samsung does not have a fastboot mode)
When I run "adb devices", I do receive "47d83255 device".
When I run the application "ReiBoot for Android" and select "One-Click to Recovery Mode"
the phone reboots to the screen shown in the attached image.
If any of these selections would help me, I'd love to know how to use it
After rebooting in recovery mode, "adb devices" in a command prompt returns nothing.
Any help getting TWRP to load, so I can install a custom ROM will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, check my S4 Unified Collection & Guides.
@SPLESHER
Thank you. However, perhaps I'm not understanding the purpose of a custom ROM. I used Odin to restore the phone to the stock OS (L720VPUGOK3_L720SPTGOK3_L720VPUGOK3_HOME.tar.md5). My root access was lost, but looking at the "LineageOS on jfltespr" instructions, I saw that root was not required. So, I followed the instructions, installed LineageOS, and rebooted into recovery. I successfully received the 4 option prompt. At that point I didn't know what to do, so I chose the option to reboot. I did, but was only returned to the stock OS. I was thinking I would have a new OS that didn't contain the Google apps, but only a streamlined set of applications.
What gives? I'm trying to get rid of the FreedomPop OS and associated applications. Is this possible? If so, how do I go about it?
Note: The phone does not have a carrier plan. All I have is WiFi and USB access.
Thank you,
Andrew
PS. I wouldn't mind having a number of the Google apps and access to the play store. I followed the link to the GApps (MindTheGapps) pages and even downloaded the zip file, but I do not understand how to install it. But first things first. I'd like a fairly robust OS that gits rid of the FreedomPop stuff.

I don't know why you tag Splesher. I replied you xD
Check my guide to install custom recovery, then check my guide to install custom ROM. Everything is on the link above.
@Retrial , sorry. On my phone it appeared like splesher wrote the post. I now see it was you and his was a thumbs-up and you provided the information.
I'll take a look again at the material at the link you posted. But there is so much material and these are processes outside my experience. I confess I am kind of guessing what I need and what I need and what is unnecessary. I don't need all the Google Apps, but I might need access to the PlayStore. There are a few apps I want to install that I know are on the PlayStore. I don't know if there are other ways to get the apk files outside of the PlayStore. I don't necessarily need an OS that is constantly being developed. I just want a few working apps. I'll never be adding the phone to a carrier's network. I'll just be using WiFi. Knowing all this and that I just want to get rid of the FreedomPop OS and install a streamlined custom OS, would you mind just listing (in order) the high-level steps I need to perform?
Thanks,
Andrew
@Retrial UPDATE: I have...
Installed Bootloader and Modem
Installed TWRP (and can reboot to TWRP as needed)
Installed Magisk Root (and confirmed that I have successfully rooted the phone)
Now I have no clue what to do next. I just want a custom ROM that will get rid of the FreedomPop OS and let me install a few apps from the Google Play Store.
Thanks,
Andrew

No need to root if you don't want to.
So assume you are on TWRP, follow my clean installation guide.
Choose a custom ROM of your choice from my collection and follow my guide.
In TWRP wipe the mentioned partitions from my guide, format data, connect your device to pc while you are in twrp, transfer the rom and gapps and flash them.
Let me know which ROM you want to flash so I can tell you exactly the steps and which gapps to flash.
@Retrial Thanks. I have downloaded the zip files for "crDroidAndroid-11.0-20220915-jfltexx-v7.22" and "LineageOS++-19.1-V1.0". I don't know which would be best to use. Any suggestions? I can move the zip files to the SD card in the phone, but when in TWRP the phone does not appear in Windows File Explorer. I don't know why.

If you have sd card you can move the files there. Make sure have samsung USB drivers installed for PC to recognize your device. (You can find them in my collection)
The LineageOS++ 19.1 is for POCO F1 not for S4. Do not flash that. Read carefully the tags and what you download.
You can choose between these:
Official LineageOS 18.1
Optimized LineageOS 19.1
Official crDroid 18.1
Official DivestOS 18.1
Let me know what you want to flash to tell you what GApps you need. But if you read my guide everything is there explained with details.
(I may answer you tommorow since it late here)
@Retrial I was able to successfully flash "Optimized-LineageOS-19.1-V7.0" and "MindTheGapps-12.1.0-arm-20220605_111643". Most functions with the new OS seem to be working well. However, installing and updating apps seems to struggle. Last night I started the install for four apps and Google Play said four apps needed updating. As of this morning only one application had been installed. The others continued to show "Pending..." I cancelled the seven remaining installs & updates, and retried with just one. It just stays at "Pending...". Thoughts on how I can get apps to install and update?
Also, one suggestion. In the steps I followed, I finally got to the bullet point "Flash ROM > GApps [Optional]", but I couldn't find instructions on how to perform the flash. I had to go to another site and tutorial on how to perform that step. If those instructions are provided in your guides, I didn't find them. Perhaps a hyperlink to them would help other users.
Thanks again,
Andrew
