Hi. I always had Samsungs and my phones always backup to Google, when restoring use to restore all messages, call logs, wallpapers, shortcut cut exactly as it was on previous phone. I now moved to a g6 an extremely happy with it. But today I had to fully erase my g6 and I selected to restore from backup of Google from my g6 backup that I had yesterday. It restored all apps, contacts , but my messages and call logs aswell as way I had set up my icons were not recoved. Why didn't they? Is there a solution for this? I can see backup on mydrive but how do I recover call logs and messages, aswell has phone use to look like with icons an so on?

To all frequent Flashers:
I wonder what are the options to backup your phone-settings before flashing a new ROM. I used Titanium Backup pro to backup all my apps and app-related settings which worked like a charm. However since it's not recommended to restore system-apps & data (?) I wonder how you do that. I am talking mainly about:
- Contacts including favourites and Call Logs (that one was a pain in the *** because the Google-Sync thing just didn't work for me. It didn't restore my contacts!)
- APNs
- eMail settings and Google Account settings
- Global systems settings like Notification Sounds, Haptic Feedback settings etc. pp.
- Alarm Clock settings
I recently flashed JVP (my first time, woooot) but am planning to upgrade to JVQ for some glitches and quite bad WLAN reception. Maybe I'll try out some Custom Roms. However if I have to restore all of the above manually I'll reconsider.
Titanium Backup or Nitrality should do the job for apps you install. It is not really recommended to restore the system data that you are talking about because things can change from ROM to ROM that might impact this.
Thanks for the quick reply.
Not restoring system apps with TB makes perfect sense to me, yes.
However, I still wonder how to backup and restore contacts, call logs and sound/notifcation/sync settings...
there must be a way, right?

This will backup your Call log, sms, and mms but I'm not sure about your system settings. - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync&feature=search_result
You can export all of your contacts to your sdcard by pressing the menu key while in your phonebook.
TBH, I write down my notification settings before I flash because I havent been able to find a way to back them up successfully 100%. It only takes a second.
Hope it helps
Just to share my experience, the restoration is not always a good idea, it causes sometimes some error if you restore in a totally new version of the ROM (like from 2.2.1 to 2.3)
This is how I do it:
Apps + their data: Titanium Backup. Never backup/restore system data, only apps data!
SMS: An app called SMS backup/restore it will create an xml file of your SMS on the external sdcard
Contacts: Google Sync
Call logs: Never really wanted or needed to. It depends on what you want it for: If you want a true historic log of all your calls, I should recommend using calltrack: https://market.android.com/details?id=app.calltrack&feature=search_result - This cool app will record all your calls to a Google calendar (go to calendar page, create a new calendar called logs or something and point calltrack to that calendar. Then just hide it from your web calendar so it doesnt clutter up the view. Nifty!)
If what you want is to retain a log so you can use it to redial or call back, I don't know what would do.
I'm a fiend for backing up SMS messages. I'm one of those guys who always thinks "you never know when you'll need it so back it up." A few weeks ago I had a soft-bricked Security Error on my G2. Luckily, this was in the same day after fully backing the phone up to OTG USB via Titanium. I decided to jump on the CloudyG2 train from CM12.1, mainly for xCam. I restored all my backups through Titanium. All of my SMS messages came back in my default app, Textra. However, those messages do not appear in other apps like the stock Messaging app or SMS Backup & Restore. Any SMS I've sent after flashing Cloudy show up fine in all apps, but Textra gets the backed up/restored SMS plus all the new ones. Any idea where they are? Are they permanently "locked" into Textra now because of using Titanium?
I have blocked many spam numbers on my stock Nexus 6p
I want to flash cyanogenmod however I've got a feeling that I will lose my black list, does anyone know how to export it and reimport it later on (just to be safe)?

There's a system app called "Blocked Numbers Storage".
One would think that's where the numbers are stored.
You could try using titanium backup to backup the data and restore it afterwards.
Thanks for the reply.
I tried as suggested but could not get it to work (importing backup to different phone).
I am not overly familiar with Titanium Backup so it is possible it was user error.
Any updates on this?
Any updates on this? Running 7.1.1 and use the stock dialer to block spammers. I probably have 100+ numbers blocked, but am moving to a warranty replacement Nexus 6p. I'd like to export the blocked callers on the old phone and import them into the new phone.
Thanks in advance!
I didn't have any luck but would still like an answer

I believe the blocked numbers are saved in a database in the Google dialer data. You could try backing up the dialer app data and restoring to the new phone. Can't say for certain if anything bad will happen tho

Well this sucks. I can't get a backup/restore to work either.
I flashed a fresh Oreo ROM on my OnePlus.
Installed opengapps on it.
Installed Titanium Backup.
Added one blocked number to test with.
Then backed up EVERYTHING including system data with TBU.
Then wiped the ROM and reinstalled it the same way using the same files.
Then restored EVERYTHING including system data with TBU.
And it did not restore the blocked number.
So there is nothing that TBU can backup/restore that will restore the blocked numbers.
I really need this as my Mother passed away unexpectedly in February and left behind quite a few debtors that are calling me all freaking day long, every day.
It's really bad. I'm the only heir/living relative so they must figure I'm responsible for paying her leftover bills. :crying:

Tell the persons calling you that your mother passed away and that you are not responsible for her, tell them that if they don't stop calling your number that you are going to report them. They debt collectors have to abide by very specific rules.
https://www.consumerfinance.gov/ask-cfpb/what-is-harassment-by-a-debt-collector-en-336/
So this is cool.
I've never used the backup/restore option that Google offers in GAPPS before.
You know, where it backs up your WiFi password and some settings to the cloud.
Then you can restore those after clean flashing a new ROM.
Well it turns out that if you enable the backup.
Then do a restore of that backup, it also restores your blocked numbers!
At least it does for me in Oreo 8.1 AOSP using Google Dialer and Hangouts combo.
Can't believe it's taken me this long to try out the backup/restore.
Which btw, does not force you to restore all your apps.
Which I thought it did and is why I never used it before, because I also like to restore my app data via Titanium Backup.
There is genius free app called My Blocked https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.myblocked
I successfully exported my calls blacklist from Google Pixel 3 and imported on Samsung Galaxy S10e.
excellent suggestion Kyonex, the app allowed me to export and recover the blocked numbers in One Plus N10. Thank you

Great! Thanks for sharing, it worked perfectly on my Redmi Note 10 Pro. I recommend everyone to create a folder with the apk file and the database of blocked numbers in some cloud storage service, in case the app is discontinued on the playstore.
Hey i was having issues with texting today and couldn't pinpoint if it was tmobile or the fact I have over 20k in messages. On the phone with them all day and messages wouldn't send/ receive. Couple ppl said they sent me messages and never received.. Some test ones eventually came through.
Anyways, I had restored messages from a previous phone to this and now I went to do a backup like I normally would with Sms backup & restore and never had a issue. I look into the file saved and noticed that many of the messages aren't saved. I used the built in backup with Samsung cloud and restored on another galaxy phone..
Seems like since I got the phone not many messages saved. Would I have to format the messaging app to remove all messages and call it a loss at this point and start from scratch?
Sorry for the long message. Thank you in advance

My phone is an H910 running Oreo (stock; never rooted). I have used the stock Messaging app for SMS/MMS.
I am trying to backup all SMS/MMS and move to a different device so that I can delete them on my H910 to save space. There are about 1,200 messages to move. Ideally, I would like to be able to save all sent/received messages and open them in a messaging app on a different non-LG device. (I would like to open them via a messaging app installed to BlueStacks. My preference would be to save them to my email; I previously used SMS Backup+ with great success, but that has not worked for years now it seems, so I am not counting on a solution like that.)
The problem I am running into is that I cannot seem to save my sent messages. In other words, I can see all of my received messages when viewing them on the new device, but none of the messages I have sent.
I have tried switching to new messaging apps such as Google Messages and Textra on the H910. However, this only shows my received messages (no sent messages).
I have also tried using a backup/restore app such as SMS Backup & Restore, but my sent messages are not backed up that way, either. (I have used a number of different methods to view the file with the backed up messages. The only messages shown are received messages.)
Does anyone have any recommendation for how to solve this? Why can't I backup/save my sent messages?

SMS Backup & Restore works for me on Android 8 (US996).
A search came up with this:
https://community.t-mobile.com/accounts-services-4/not-able-to-backup-sent-text-messages-12778
where RCS messages are the problem, are you using RCS?

Thank you for your response.
Yes, that appears to be the problem. The H910 is AT&T-branded, and I am using it on AT&T. It automatically comes with "advanced messaging" (aka RCS) enabled. So, that is the problem... that is why SMS Backup & Restore will not work. (It looks like SMS Backup & Restore might work with RCS if I had been using Google Messages from the start. Unfortunately, that was not the case.)
I am now wondering if I can get another V20/other capable device with a better messaging app installed prior to the process and then use AT&T's Mobile Transfer to move everything over and back. I may pursue this.
If anyone has a better method of backing up SMS/MMS/RCS messages, please let me know. Otherwise, I guess the moral of the story is to always use a third-party messaging app that allows for backup of RCS or stores the messages via cloud/alternative means that you can actually access.
This might be a solution:

Thank you. I actually was attempting to use that last night. It seems that using this allows you to backup all messages (SMS/MMS/RCS) to AT&T's cloud, but you can then only access them via AT&T's messaging app. There does not appear to be a way to export them from that app to a different device. So, it is great if you just want to view the messages on a different device... but not so great if you actually want to move the messages from one device to another.
