Safe to remove stock dialer and contacts with ADB? - LG G6 Questions and Answers

Hello!
I installed google dialer contacts and text messages and made thoughs the default on my phone.
Safe to remove lg stocks phone apps or will issues arise?
Thanks

You have to uninstall 'Contacts.apk' only. After uninstalling it, stock dialer will also disappear.

Yes, you can uninstall stock messaging app but not the others messaging services. Install Google Messages and make it default. You should be fine after that.
P.S. you have 'Thanks button' under the posts that helped you.

Thanks man, the wap services stopped after the reset. Good to know that's normal

text messaging

I am looking to find a setting or application that would continue to notify (audible) until a TEXT message is either read/acknowledged or deleted.
Anything like that out there?
Thanks!!!!

Handcent will do this. It's just disabled by default.
Sry new to this phone.
Handcent? default app on phone?
If so, where are the settings?
Thanks

yeah - but it will come back every time you exit and press Phone again, also, there is no option to display ALL Call Logs, either ALL or individuals....
We need to get rid of the SMS log entirely... or at least the option whether to log it or not...

i found a (kinda) solution, but you'll have to install GoSMS from the market. Anyway it's an awesome sms app, i used to use Handcent and Chomp but finally settle for this.
Under Settings---> Receive Settings , check "Disable other message notification".
check it out

This better as you don't have to install a whole new ROM:

Text Message Notifications on Lockscreen does not show who it is from

Does any one know how to change the text message settings to make it so the notification on the lock screen shows it is from and what the message is?

Dont know about that. Maybe samsung intended it that way for privacy reasons..or so i guess(although i dont get the point as rest of the apps can show full details there).
My tab3 does not show the sender/contents of the message. Just says <count> messages received..not quite useful.

Thanks but I can't change Messaging settings without making it default again. I'm worried that will screw up Hangouts when I switch back.

The good news that I was able to switch to stock, make the change, and move back to Hangouts. The bad news is that the setting didn't carry over.

Textra as default SMS app, Messaging app randomly receiving texts

Has anyone seen this behavior on the V20? I have Textra set as the default SMS app and randomly, I get a notification from the Messaging app that I have a new text or MMS. The odd thing is that those messages won't show up in Textra, only in Messaging.
So far it seems to be with 1 contact, my brother who is on T-Mobile using an S6. I deleted my convo in Messaging with him when this happened yesterday and deleted his convo with me on his phone and it was fine. Just now, I got an MMS from him and happened again. Seems odd...
Anyone else?

I tried that right after I posted, actually. Seeing if it happens again.
How can I get textra to show on second screen
Will Textra send via WiFi? I have not tried the app yet.
Thanks
I'm not seeing this behavior yet. However, Textra and the Messaging app aren't showing any of my contacts. I keep syncing them, and they show up in the Contacts app, but it's like the Textra/messaging app doesn't have access to them or something.
Edit: Reboot helped.

Same thing. Have you been able to fix it? I'm about to delete Textra, force stop stock app, then reinstall Textra to see if it will start working properly. I noticed that it happens to only one person in my contact list, extremely odd.
Just in case anyone else is having this issue I seemed to have found a fix. Go to settings then apps. Select the native messaging app. Revoke permissions, block notifications, switch "message app" to No, switch draw over other apps to No. Delete Textra, restart phone, reinstall Textra, & set Textra as default app (simply go into Textra & begin to use it, it will ask if you want to make it the default). This should hopefully fix any issues anyone might be having.

THX,I'll give that a shot (not sure if I'm actually having issues, but, incoming texts seem to be coming in later than they should).
And BTW...............
:good: WELCOME TO XDA DEVELOPERS ! :good:
EDIT: @Kief_haring
After following the steps you listed, the stock messaging app settings (permissions/notifications) reverted back to enabled.
The message app & draw-over other apps settings remained off (no).
There's some MMS settings within the Textra app that are T-Mobile specific, may need to have some trial & error to get things just right,YMMV.

You have to make sure you don't open the native app after setting everything to off. Maybe just set them all to off, delete Textra then reinstall. Don't restart phone as that may be what is enabling the native messaging app settings. I have T-Mobile as well. I enable the T-Mobile MMS over wifi option to on within Textra. Let me know if this works out, if not I'll try to troubleshoot the issue a bit more.
Also thanks for the warm welcome! I've been lurking on this site for over 10 years, just never made an account. Figured it was about time to give some input & ask questions for myself as well. Love this community & want to give back as much as I have taken from it.

T Mobile wifi fix. Apologies for not being more clear about that. When you set that you can actually see wifi shut off & 4G take over when sending an MMS. Never have trouble sending a picture after setting that up.
---------- Post added at 12:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:35 AM ----------
Also with MMS Behavior, Legacy seems to be working well on the V20. Haven't had to even think about switching to System MMS.

I leave the off on mine and have not had any issues sending MMS.
Wish that Textra supported the second screen and that is where the notifications appeared.

I'll have to try and leave it off... With the N6P it always had to be on.
None of the above worked for me. The one or two peoples messages that were going into the stock app just stopped coming in completely.
Any other ideas?

Group Messaging (group mms) issue

Hey all!
I have a t-mobile op 6t sim unlocked by tmobile and converted to OSS using the old way not the new way. Whenever I get a group mms it keeps putting it in a single chat thread saying mms downloading. I've been using Google Messages and even tried the stock messaging app. This started happening about three days ago. Has anyone heard of or had this issue? Screenshot is attached. Thanks!

The same EXACT thing is happening to me and I've been trying to figure it out. This happened to me on my OP3 as well, and at the time, I replaced my SIM card and it fixed the issue. However, I did the same thing with this one, and no luck. Which version of OOS are you on? I'm on 9.0.10.

If you are stocked and unrooted, you might want to reflash the stock rom 9.0.11 which can be downloaded from the OP website using the local update. It won't wipe anything but you may need to reboot into the recovery and wipe the catches only (not data) .
Figured it out! Looking at the default APN settings it says mms in both the APN type for the regular APN and mms APN. Created a new APN without Mms but keep default, supl, xcap
