hi
my v20 phone battery draining was about 1% per hour before (about 7% totally ) and recently increased to 2% during sleeping time overnight. (draining 15% overnight in sleeping state) .this situation's screenshot is attached and named : Screenshot_2018_01_21_07_05_15.
it seems that during day either performance off battery is decreased.(about 5h with wifi and screen on usage)
Fast charging while second screen is On , is slower than when it is off therefore when second screen is Off , fast charging goes better . exactly , first 30 mins fast charging makes about 40% battery charge(instead of 50%) and after 60 min leads to 85% and full charging taking place after about 100 min instead of 80 mins.
another important thing is that sometimes shades have been seen on the LCD that many users have complained about it.
phone information is :
Android security patch level: September 1, 2017
BASEBAND : MPSS.TH.2.0.1.c3-00045-M8996FAAAANAZM-1
KERNEL : 3.18.31
BUILD NUMBER : NRD90M
SOFTWARE VERSION : V10g-AME-XX
MODEL NUMBER : LG-H990ds
my actions are as follows :
phone is factory reseted. No third party apps is installed. [especially social media apps.]
battery calibration steps for not rooted phones is taken place.(turning off the phone and charging several times repeatedly).
turn off location services and location scanning for WiFi and Bluetooth scanning
turn off WiFi being On during screen is Off.
turn off auto sync, NFC, GPS etc.
not using auto brightness.
not using comfort view .
turn off location services and location scanning for WiFi and Bluetooth scanning
second screen is off during test overnight. (either with second screen is ON with faced down to lower brightness in other day test [this situation's screenshot is attached and named : Screenshot_2018_01_21_07_49_27] )
phone is in Air Plane Mode and all data services is off.
system apps like Google services and Play and Assistance is limited by permissions.
any help with this issue is appreciated.

update 1: 1/27/2018
- flashing rom to previous stock version (v10f) was not give me any clue and it seems is not related to the problem.
- testing phone in safe mode couldn't help to decrease draining .
- turning off or on second screen doesn't solve the problem yet.
any help with this issue is appreciated.[/QUOTE]
Hi,
It's difficult to find the culprit from your screenshots. Maybe you had an app update after what it started to behave incorrectly. Maybe your google account backup or synchronization are misbehaving. There can be many different reasons for this drain.
Anyway, taking into account the actions you've done, you must be a really advanced user, so probably you should try a more advanced battery monitor application, with detailed information regarding draining. I use betterbatterystats, it helped me to find my draining culprits. Unfortunately, it's paid, but if you couldn't find the culprit by yourself from the logs, the app's xda forum will always help you. Or you can use any other detailed battery monitor, which log contains kernel, sensor, app, service, wakelock drain.

Dear kovacszj
Thanks for your attention.
I have betterbatterystat app but as I didn't have intention to root my phone, I can't use its reports.
Any new idea will be appreciated.

Could you please post GSam's app usage drain screenshot. It was 60% on your first screenshot.
Unfortunately, I haven't used other battery monitor for unrooted device, that's way I have no idea which one is the most reliable.

HI, this is my last night 's stats.about 8% battery drain in about 4 hours sleeping condition and the phone is in Airplane mode, by Greenify App all background apps are hibernated, second screen is off (although I set second screen to being off but morning I see it was On. I think because of scheduling daily timeout ignore setting of second screen ).
I feel that second screen when main screen is off, has a great role in draining battery.

Hi,
Well, I don't think, that your 2ND screen is the culprit. I think so, because my idle drain with 80 apps, lot of widgets, 3 different weather app, wifi-second screen-data always on, high location services, greenified almost every app excluding What'sApp-Viber-2 different mail app with push notification, so my idle is 0,7-1,0 %. Other more experienced user say, that normal drain is about 0,5-1,0%, depending on phone of course.
Unfortunately your screenshots don't contain enough information, so I can only guess. Maybe you have an SD card, which was used in Android 6.0. If yes, you should delete Android related folders from your sd card (or copy necessary data to computer, format sd card on your phone and restore your data from computer). Also a good idea to debloat your phone as much as possible (disable unnecessary apps, which were already on your phone). Quickmemo+ can possibly drain the phone, if you don't use it, maybe you could greenify it (is it possible to greenify system apps without root???). Maybe you should try to disable Google backup for awhile and see what happens. Also you can turn off Google sync you don't use.
Due to the fact, that root is no solution for you, and your phone is draining abnormally, maybe would be a good idea to factory reset it, update it via computer, and set it up as a new phone - don't restore your apps from backup, install them one by one, and see which gives you this horrible drain. If you've already done this, or don't want to waste your time with this, maybe you should visit Lg's service center, so they can find the solution.
I had some bad battery drain last week due to the app viber, took 11% in 3 hours.l,without me even opening it in weeks.
I unistalled it immediately.

Hi, thanks dear kovacszj. you kindly follow my issue.:fingers-crossed:
we have same methods in testing and solving the problem. I have considered your recommendations before. i don't have any sd card on phone and i have disabled suspicious system apps like Quickmemo+,Google apps like drive and hangout ... ,set one by one permissions of apps and take any unnecessary permissions and etc.
As I was thinking that battery drain is related to screen consuming (specially second screen), after 100% charging, over last night, attached results are obtained. as you can see 20% draining!!! Over about 8 hours sleeping condition. as you see in screen daring image ,20% attributed to off screen usage. how you explain this?
The phone was in airplane mode and all apps are greenfield using Greenify app and phone is factory reseted and all apps are updated from Google play directly.
** Second screen was On and in dark situation to decreasing screen brightness.
Another important issue is shading in main screen. by a simple search i found that many users have complained this issue too. i faced with this before but it was not so important to me because it goes away during time (may be temperature goes down).but i think we have to consider it as a sign of LCD problem if you agree ?
Unfortunately service center of LG in Iran offers very bad guaranty service and i'm not interested to waist my time with them unless any hardware replacement using guaranty situations.
In second stage I downgraded to previous stock firmware (v10f April 2017) using recommended stock KDZ files and tested it again and same results obtained. So firmware is not effective in draining of battery.Fast charging performance was good (45% charging in first 30 mins and full charging in 90 mins).

Hi,
Your very welcome, but unfortunately we still could'nt find your culprit.
For me it is kind of strange, that your trouble started with firmware update, but firmware downgrade is no cure for you. So this means, that you have a hardware problem (could be the screen or the battery or even worst the motherboard), or you still have one process or sensor running while your phone is idle (60% app drain indicates that). First of all would be great to see detailed information on 60% app drain. What information does Gsam provide on app sucker?

HI,
I did my test again with second screen was Off and same results happened. As you see in attachments in about 4 hours sleeping with fully screens Off, draining is remained. 12% draining (battery goes to 88%) exactly as it shows for off screen usage in picture. Therefore being screen on or off is not relate to draining. Unless internal motherboard current draining that I can't realize.
Now I want to restore v10g sep 2017 firmware and return to first place and go on.
One of friends recommend me to test phone with safe mode.
I either tried to root my phone to gain more stats of log files but unfortunately despite of using Santadirty instructions it not continued and I failed in step 8. I will try it again with changing my windows os.
Following you see the off screen stats.
While I was using phone I checked gsam's stats and result is amazing.
Second screen is off and main screen is on now, but it shows draining in off mode is continuing!!
Look at pictures and compare them with pervious post images. 4 hours with 12% draining for off screen and it increased to 21% while I was using phone!! :cyclops:
How off screen increased while main screen was on and second screen was off.

Your friend gave a wise advise, hopefully you could find something in safe mode. Also before changing hardware on your phone, definitely there's a reason to root it, but it is up to you. I rooted my phone according to this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72716640&postcount=613
In case if you have double sim variant.
I hadn't any problem with root, if you have question send me a pm.
hi again
first of all , safe mode didn't help and same draining happens.
in following you can see overnight log report representation. 24% draining !! over 8 hours without moving or using . . i'm really confused and can't find any clue why such discharging happens!
please note that
-the phone from 1:06 am to 7 am was in fully standalone condition on the table.
-after 7 am second screen because of scheduling time automatically turned on.
-after that i turned on WiFi to take log report and sending it via email and Network signal turned on too.
-as you can see there isn't any foreground app
-unfortunately discharge rate is very high between 2.3% to 5%. and averaged 3.01% /h.
-doze time is approximately normal and indicates full sleeping. according to Discharge rate figures (see attachment named this) when doze time is orange discharge rate is 0% but exactly when we are in blue dozing section discharge rate go high up to 6%/h!!!!!!!!!!.
- in Activity Manager Proc section (i highlighted in attachment named to this for 5:02 am) , there are a few system processes like:

My F800L Korean V20 also have battery drain too
Hi,
i have a F800L Korean V20 and also has battery drain too. It drains 40% overnight with WiFi, Mobile data, BT and Location all turned off. I charged it to 100% battery before going to sleep and ended up only have 60% battery in the morning after I turn the main screen on. However, if I turn on the airplane mode at night time, no battery is consumed and I get 100% in the morning. As soon as I turn the airplane off (only WiFi turn on), the battery usage is around 7 - 8 %per hour even I leave it idle. I think the battery draining issue is related highly to the radio usage by some un-identified processes/apps. I would be appreciated if anyone could point me to the right direction to this problem! Thank you!

In the idle time it is estimated not to draining exceeds 1% per one hour.so you and me have serious problem.
Please follow this istruction like me .may be we get a definite result together.

I have found the cause of the battery drain of my V20.
I simply changed my radio to G3/UMTS from LTE and the problem gone! It only drains around 1% overnight! Even I turned all data/WiFi/BT/GPS on, it consumes only 1% - 2% during the day if it left it idle.
I suspect it's due to my home is situated in a weak LTE covered location, the phone need to switch to scan / switch to different base station for connection. It might also need to switch to 3G or GSM bands for connection if the signal is too weak for connection. The process run throughout the night and consumes a lot of power!
This is definitely the culprit as I'd double checked it by switching back to LTE mode again and the drain returned !
You might try this for you V20! Good luck!

This solution seems not applicable to my issue because i have turned off network signal by ring the phone to flight mode during overnight. Unless flight mode not affect draining due to switching between opertors.! Is this ?
Hey! Just wanted to let you know there is a way to get full Gsam battery stats without root. If you Google "Gsam battery monitor without root" you'll find the instructions. All you have to do is run this ADB command:
adb -d shell pm grant com.gsamlabs.bbm android.permission.BATTERY_STATS
This will allow Gsam access to full battery/power usage stats. I'm also on a unrooted H990DS with full stats. Really helps when diagnosing issues like this. Good luck!

In airplane (flight) mode, all radio (including the basic telephone voice calls) will be turned off. Your V20 should not have any battery drain overnight as a result.
If you do, you have a different cause for the battery drain!
I suggest you do a factory reset. Without installing any app, you turn on the airplane mode overnight to see if any battery drain. If you still experience battery drain, you better return it to LG for repair.
cheers.

Hey, sorry for not posting it on the ([NOOB FRIENDLY] Ask the question!) thread because I thought this might be a little too long winded.
So, I've bought this Note 4 (5.0.1) in Nov last year, battery life has been great, could last me 1 to 2day with a full charge with med usage.
But just recently (still on 5.0.1), I've noticed abnormal battery drain. When I unplugged my charger at 100% and when to bed (GPS/Wifi/Apps Closed), the next day it will not turn on. So I plugged it in and it says 0%. (Used to get only 5% drain to 95% over night)
So, the next night I put it in airplane mode and it still drains to 0%, what's more in the history details it says my Wifi is on the entire time even though it's not...
Fully charged it, unplugged and it would drain ~40% in around 4hrs standby with screen/wifi/gps off and would need a recharge almost twice a day... Even my 1800mAh One X doesn't even drain that much in idle.
Did a factory reset via stock recovery(Still unrooted), cleared cache partition, disabled sync all accounts, disabled searching for network even if wifi is off, formatted SD card, disabled unused services/apps/samsung's bloatware but it's still the same. (5.1.1 still not available on my device). Greenify can't find any apps to hibernate.
Highest power sapping was Android system using ~8% ( Was 23% before reset)
- Mine also has autofocus/blurry problem.
Edit - Oh, battery had ran to 0% thrice before these things happened.
> Should I send in back to Samsung for a replacement or try it with a new oem battery or root it with a custom rom/kernel? Thanks!
does the battery heat (not the device) ?
-if it doesn't your battery might just have gone faulty , if you notice suspicious loss in battery % after restarting might be the battery just got limpy on you and yea that can happen on new batteries , fluctuating A/C current can do that to it (being on a generator / constant drop in voltage)
does the device heat ?
-if it does might be a case of rogue software that manipulated your system / kernel or just use push / pull / service load in a hideous way , honestly i dont know of a way to just identify / isolate such an app but here are some thoughts :
1 - if your phone wasn't rooted and it doesn't feel like killing your baby just factory reset the phone and see if it helps
2 - if your phone was rooted i suggest you reflash stock rom (just to make sure malicious tweaks had been reset)
3 - if you just don't want to do that use an app such as Kernel Adiutor / AnTuTu CPU Master to reduce processing power at idle times so rogue softwares wouldn't lead to significant drains (which is not really fixing the hole in the boat but making the wall higher)
4 - test with few battery boosters apps , don't have any to recommend but a lot of those attempt to analyse which apps do the drain (it's most of the time fake but meh)

Battery temps are ok, hovering a bit higher than room temps.
Factory reset it the second time, problem is still occuring.
BetterBatteryStats shows device does go into deep sleep mode but the drain is still ~11%/hr with minimal screen on time.
- Just emailed the their service center and probably gonna popby their store tomorrow to see what's their thoughts on this...
Update: Samsung replaced the motherboard, battery and rear-camera foc since it's still under warranty. Battery drain problem is gone.

Hi guys,
I have been having an issue with my Motorola X Play (UK Single Sim) I have only owned it for a few months from new.... The battery is draining fast and I can see in the battery stats that it's not sleeping, otherwise the battery usage page shows nothing of interest, apart from perhaps Mobile Standby which is quite high, above the screen but the signal bar is all green...
I rooted my phone to better find out what was causing these issues, otherwise stock Marshmallow. Unfortunately Motorola now are not interested as they say my phone is rooted and now has no warranty - useless idiots!
Using GS Sam battery monitor (rooted) I can see that the following is keeping the phone awake, no other app is.
48.3% of battery consumed by Kernel (Android OS)
Keep awake over 2 hours
CPU usage 59m 53s
Number of Wake Locks: 1
Byes sent: 246.21KB
Bytes Received: 5.70MB
App UID: 0
Wakelock Detail:
Google_C2DM 0.0s (1)
I have tried safe mode but it appears to be the same, I have hardly any apps installed apart from Facebook and Facebook messenger and I have even tried it without them...
I have tried turning off/on WiFi / Location / GPS is now disabled. WiFi Scanning is off. Restarts make no difference... I have even done a factory reset about a month ago.
Any ideas, this phone is having the same battery life or less than my Nexus 5 which had a much smaller battery...
Many thanks
here's a way to avoid it http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/help/google-c2dm-checkin-services-t1321520
i'll update if i find anything else.
don't tell them your device is rooted. if you go to service center just re-lock the bootloader and its back to normal.[it won't get your warranty back but they don't check that much]
can you post a screenshot of gs sam.
1 - Install BetterBatteryStats (BBS) - this will give you detailed information on what is draining your battery. Get it from XDA v2.2.0.0B6 - this gives you the detailed breakdown in the UI that you are after, the google play version doesn't do it in the UI (older version).
Get baseline results (charge it full, don't touch it for 5-6 hours) I like to do this while sleeping.
2 - Install Greenify (you don't need the Xposed module if you don't want to fiddle with that yet, alto I highly recommend it) set the working mode to root. If applications are still not sleeping, add the widget and force sleep everything before you turn off your screen
Get BBS results (do the 5-6 hours while sleeping) - improved?
3 - Install Naptime from the google play store (by Fransico Franco)
Get BBS results - improved?
Getting anal about battery usage?
4- Read up on Amplify - this yielded even more results for me. But this can take a bit of work to get right. There's a lot of great threads on XDA for setting this up.
5 -Smart network - allows you to control data, networks, wifi, bluetooh, nfc, gps on/off with a ton of great features for auto. management.
I have all the above and yield a 0.4%/hr drain on stand by (see signature for phone build).
Amplify is a god sent app. It has been 4 hours now, and I have been using whatsapp on and off (about 20 seconds each time) and I still have 97% left in the tank.

Facebook app has been known to cause serious battery drain in the past. Uninstall it and test again.
In 99% of the cases it is caused by an app. Try to find out which one is causing the drain.
Hi all,
Sorry for the delay and thanks for the replies. I performed a factory reset again, after clearing the cache etc, the same as I did last time. The only difference is I then installed Android 6.0.1
The battery drain has now gone. I didn't perform a restore of apps etc, and the only apps I have installed so far in addition have been Facebook and Facebook messenger but I have found these have had no effect at all on the battery drain. I haven't even updated the stock apps (apart from the security ones).
I now get two days of use easy. It also seems to be running slightly faster. I will update apps one by one, over the course of a few days to make sure nothing causes it again...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-extreme-battery-life-t3095884
I use this guide, works really great to limit wake locks.
And I don't use Fb app but use the browser instead, battery lasts easily two days of "heavy" usage !
I found the problem, or at least a major bug. Whenever you cast to Google Chromecast Audio and then stop casting completely there is a massive wakelock until you next restart the phone. My phone was awake all night and down to 20% battery life. Android OS takes a massive portion of the battery life and under keep awake stats it's 9 hours +. It seems that when it says disconnected it is not. A major bug! I'll try and report it using Google's bug reporter...

not even Doze could kill it? perhaps you could try Servicely and see if it could stop the thing from running.

Nope, Doze had no affect at all but it should be as it was sitting stationary overnight - normally the drain overnight is a few percent at the most, last night it was around 65% and I was left with 20% in the morning and this was I think the first time I had used Google Chromecast Audio since the factory reset with great battery life up to last night... I could try Servicely but I am not sure on the service to kill and I'd like to keep it 100% stock for now so I can help out Google to fix the bug (or Motorola if they bother)... What a pain as I just bought 4x Google Chromecast Audios!!
I have reported it here in the Android bug tracker, feel free to comment / star the issue to bring it to Google's attention.
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=208324
However I am not sure if this is a Motorola Issue or a Google Marshmallow / Chromecast issue?? Motorola support have been very unhelpful so no luck if that is the case...
If anyone else with Chromecast Audio could confirm the bug that would be great.
Thanks
Laurence
There's a post on reddit about battery drain with chromecast audio about a year ago, not sure if it's the same issue though.

What runs under "Phone Idle" on the V20. It's been the largest battery consumer for the last week of use that I've noticed. My wife's V20 is the same and I had my brother check his and his wife's V20.
I'm only asking because I'm not see great battery life like other have been reporting. I don't have live wallpaper, have only two widgets on the home screen. GPS is set to battery save, screen is set to auto but that doesn't even come close to chewing up the battery.
Sadly I feel like I'm still using my old 2.5 year G3 where it'll need a charge mid way through the day.

Really??
Pretty sad that needs to be done on a week old phone with minimal apps. I'm not even a heavy user.
I feel like I'm back on my old DroidX days where everything was a factory reset but never helped...

I agree with you. Although my phone is just beyond a week old and does have all my apps installed, a factory reset can't be the solution here. This is the typical "I don't know how to fix this" answer always given by manufacturers and carriers.

In the roughly 3 weeks I've had my V20 I've only seen this once where phone idle was higher than Screen. I started looking thru all running apps for 'keep awake' time being high and noticed Android OS had keep awake of over 2 hours when it's normally less than an hour after a full day use. I power cycled the phone and it stopped.
The weird thing was Android OS didn't show high battery usage even though something was triggering keep awake. Looks like the keep awake was causing phone idle to be high.
I'd look at everything in your battery usage to see if you have any high keep awake times.

Sorry did not mean to be short in my response. When you set up your phone did you restore it from another phone using the nfc bump thing? I did the same and my phone battery was the same way. Wouldn't last even half a day. After i factory reset and set everything up manually i get 18+ hrs with 7 hrs screen on time sometimes.
If this situation doesn't apply to you then maybe a reset won't help. But you have to understand your situation isn't normal.
Make sure Google now features are all turned off and not running in the background.

I'll have to go through the apps one by one like I did previously on my G3 and see. Now within the battery stats there is only a handful of apps like hangout, play music, chrome and camera. The rest is OS related so that's why I was curious what ran under Phone Idle.

No and sadly I was looking for that feature a week ago but couldn't find it so I had to individually install most of my apps I had on my previous phone...made for a long night along with the additional emails and configuration or icons and such.
I'll keep digging away at the phone...I really want to like this phone ?
Has there been a definitive resolution to "phone idle" battery drain? I just got a V20 2 weeks ago on sale for $360 and its a fantastic upgrade over the One+1 I've been rockin all these years, but I'm also suffering from mediocre life due to whatever phone idle is. Some forums (for other phones) say phone idle is related to your wireless signal. I'm still with the same carrier and frequenting the same locations and had no such battery drain with that old One+.
i finally discovered whats was goin on with me..
i had the same issue..
phone idle was topping my battery usage list
it turns google plays have this "locationmanager service " and locationwhatever" that kills your battery over wifi even with location button off
Go to locations/ 3 dots in top right corner/ turn off WiFi scan. See if that helps.
My phone has been suffering from poor battery life for quite some time now, here are the screenshots, Android OS has been this high on almost all battery cycles.
I disabled wifi scanning as suggested above and will watch the performance, does the community have any other inputs to fix this? View attachment 4212978View attachment 4212979

Phone idle is always the biggest battery draw on my phone too. I have minimal apps too. No Facebook or similar types of apps. I'm on a Verizon V20 stock with the latest security update. Is this normal V20 behavior to have phone idle consume more battery than everything else?
how about doze mode , isnt that meant to help with this sort of problem ? ( my phone is currently on a ship )
Any update. İ have the same problem

So what did you do?
Would also be grateful if anyone shared a solution.
I specifically have a SIM-unlocked Sprint model (LS997) which am using in Europe with another carrier.
Using it in LTE preferred mode drains about 10-15% overnight.
Using it in WCDMA preferred mode drains up to 5% per night (yes, wifi and cellular data OFF and many apps greenified) . So I'm really interested in how this can be fixed and achieve 0% battery drain across several hours.
Or maybe it's SIM-unlocked Sprint ROM related?? I can't root my phone since it has the Feb 2017 patch and is a ZV6.
I suspect rooting it and using another ROM would solve this + the annoying issue of not being able to send images via FB Messenger and Viber while on cellular data (I imagine the Sprint guys placed some kind of restriction to deny media transfer for these apps when using cellular data).
I have noticed this too.. wondered why "phone idle" takes most battery... any suggestions would be great!
I am also curious about the solution. Phone Idle is at top. Even without SIM card. 30% drains during a night (everything is disabled, but no airplane mode is on). I tried factory reset, reinstall older ROM, replace battery, use no app but still sucks.
hi
my v20 phone battery draining was about 1% per hour before (about 7% totally ) and recently increased to 2% during sleeping time overnight. (draining 15% overnight in sleeping state)
it seems that during day either performance off battery is decreased.(about 5h with wifi and screen on usage)

Hi everyone.
I bought my V20 in July of this year and in the last week I have started to get big battery drain. Usually it's Android OS and Phone idle up the top of the list.
After unplugging it, the phone will be at 100% battery6 sometimes an hour with light use (eg browsing reddit or general Web search) then its a fast decline in battery life. I can usually tell it's happening because the phone gets hot in my pocket.
It's unrooted btw.
Android OS
I find that if i turn off location services and location scanning for wifi and bluetooth scanning and not use auto brightness and use comfort view i get a full day of battery.
Try Off auto sync, nfc, gps etc

So I noticed my new 6T was having some heavy drain on standby so decided to install GSam.
I've clicked a screenshot of the GSam page below

Google play services is showing crazy amount of wakelocks. Anyone knows what's 'dozeservice'?
My battery stats show I've last charged my phone 17 hours before, OST 1 hour and 57 minutes as of now. Majority of the time phone was on WiFi and Bluetooth on (connected to my smart watch), adaptive battery disabled.
My battery stats: https://i.imgur.com/BZOL8Ep.jpg
Any solution?
These types of reports are generally not that informative - you should take an adb bugreport and then parse it with the Google Battery Historian: https://github.com/google/battery-historian. The Wakelock you are seeing is most likely not the cause of the CPU drain, especially when the Doze service is up top (which puts the phone to sleep). The NlpWakelocks are most likely due to you having Google Location Reporting turned on. Turning it off would conserve some battery, although you will also lose that functionality. But definitely give that a try and see how it goes (you will need to setup a Docker instance to get it up though)...
