has anyone else seen this with stock OOS? when i pick my phone up after not using it for a while, almost every single time it can't connect to anything until the screen is on for a few seconds...as if it's needing to reconnect to the wifi. after a few seconds, everything is fine (as if it had finished connecting and now works). i have it set to keep wifi on during sleep, but it seems to be ignoring that setting...at least that's the only thing i can figure as to what's going on. i'm stock unrooted on oos 4.5.15.
is there anything i can do here? i love this phone in every way EXCEPT for the god-awful wifi performance. the wifi in general has gotten much better, but this one bug in particular is incredibly annoying...also, before someone mentions it, i've already changed my router out trying to fix this. i was having other wifi issues, so i upgraded to ubiquiti gear...hasn't resolved this particular issue.
edit: of note, i've also tried turning doze off to help fix this...but doze mode in general on this phone seems completely unreliable in pretty much every way. that didn't help fix anything either.

First of all, you guys doing the development for our devices are simply amazing. By improving the usability of our pda phones you are actually significantly improving the quality of day to day life (at least for me personally). It's a big deal, so thank you for all your work.
I don't post very often, but I lurk every day and generally have no issues to post about, but now one has come about that I need some help with.
_________
So I just began using Chainfire's WMWifiRouter yesterday for the first time, and it works perfectly for me. To be able to wirelessly tether multiple laptops is an unbelievably useful and cool capability. One of the features built in which is a very welcome one is also causing me a problem.
As you all know (if you've used the program) it is set up to keep the wifi active if you hit the power button and put the device in standby.
My issue is that it seems that the change it makes to keep the wifi active in standby doesn't revert to the default setting when the program is closed. So when I'm not using the program and I am connected to a wifi network in my house, and I press the power button, the battery is still draining very fast. Normally I can keep it in standby all day just waiting for calls to come in to wake it up and the battery will barely go down. But today I put it in standby and try to turn it on a couple hours later and it's completely dead.
It is just my assumption that the problem is caused by what I described because using this program is the only new thing I've begun doing since yesterday before the problem existed. Soft reset doesn't change anything, and the "crash cleanup" option doesn't help.
Can anyone confirm that I am correct in my assumption of the cause of the problem? Or any other ideas of what could be causing it? Just to be clear, I'm using a version that came with my rom (Colonel's 12-28-07 custom rom for the sprint mogul) and it is an older verion, v.081. I would try the newest version, but I couldn't find any details on the website about how much it costs once the trial is over.
Thanks a lot if anyone can help, I'd appreciate any bits of insight even if you're not completely sure.
THANK YOU!
So, no one has any thoughts on this?
It is becoming quite annoying to have to turn off the wifi in the comm manager every time I put the phone into standby just so it's not dead in an hour and a half.
Also, if I leave the wifi on and hit the power button, when I turn it back on the symbol shows the wifi connection still active but when trying to stream a radio station or open a browser it won't connect, and I have to turn off and back on the wifi to get a new working connection.
I'd just like to know if any of the other thousands of wmwifirouter users have the same experience, or just haven't noticed it or what.
Thanks.
Mogulus: Please try my Wifi Profiles -option Wifi Power->Normal Mode in menu.
BINGO!!!
Your program absolutely did the trick, thank you so much.
The only other suggestion I got was to flip off the wifi switch before entering standby and flipping it back on when returning from standby. Well that is simple enough but when you're picking the thing up every few minutes to check a random thing that pops in your head, that extra step gets so annoying.
Again, thanks a lot, you can expect a donation from me.
Thank you!!

You are welcome

Ok, i have been having this problem for a few months now and i have finally got fed up with it.
Whenever i try to connect to one of the many wifi spots on my campus or the one at my home, or pretty much any wifi spot, a few minuets later it will just drop, for no reason (and sometimes the wi-fi itself will just turn off for no reason after an hour or so.). And then when i go to the wifi options and ask it to re-connect, it just sits there and does nothing, no matter how much i tap it will not do nothing unless i turn wifi on and off, and even then the chance of reconnecting is slim, and when it does re-connect it usually just drops again.
I tried using the Wifi fixer app but it does not seem to help, and the log file i had it create cannot be opened for some reason either or is corrupted.
What im wondering is why does it do this, what is causing it? Is there some kind of log file or console where i can see what exactly is going on when it tries to connect to wi-fi so i can pinpoint the problem? anyone else have this problem and found a fix?
My nexus 7 is the 16GB version Wi-fi only. It has never been rooted or hacked in any way.
Same problem here. I've done research and apparently it seems like a common problem? It's driving me nuts especially when I'm trying to watch Netflix. My Nexus 4 has no issues...
Well if there is a kernel or ROM out there that fixes this i am just going to go ahead and root, because i have a feeling that google wont release a fix until android key-lime pie, if that even makes it to the nexus 7
So, I have been having some extremely frustrating issues with the WiFi on my 6P. I got my phone in January and I have been super happy with it except for this one issue. Since I got it, I was using the stock OS up until the April security patches came out. Before the patches, I had some issues, but the phone was still mostly usable. Especially after that update, however, I have been faced with two very irritating WiFi issues.
When my phone goes to sleep, the WiFi connection inevitably drops out. Sometimes, the WiFi will still be active but not associated, but it will frequently have also switched itself off completely.
I can only stay connected to a network for about 30 seconds tops. The connection will just stall out and then reconnect after several seconds.
In an effort to get better performance, I decided to switch from the stock OS to PureNexus (which I used and loved on my old Nexus 5) and I also flashed the ElementalX kernel. For the first few days, the WiFi performance was rock solid, but slowly it got worse than it was on stock to the point of being unusable now. Now, here's what I have already tried/checked:
The "Keep WiFi awake during sleep" option in the Settings app is DEFINITELY set to Always.
This issue is not specific to any one network. It had occurred on every network that I've used and on 2.4G and 5G networks (although it seems to be worse on 5Ghz)
I tried turning the band selection off Automatic and choosing both 2.4 and 5 only options, both just seemed to make it worse.
I've removed all apps that I installed and checked logcat for any app info that might be related to the issue. All I see is just normal stuff and then BAM! The wifi driver states that it disassociated from the AP.
I tried installing WakeLock to hold WIFI_MODE_FULL at all times. This hasn't made much of a difference with it disassociating while the screen is off.
Has anyone else experienced issues like this? I am to the point now where I might have to send in my phone under the warranty because I don't know if it's just detective hardware or what at this point. The fact that it worked well after a clean install would seem to suggest that it isn't, but the fact that it persisted across two different ROMs suggests that maybe it is.
Either way, I am at a loss and I've exhausted all the diagnostic skill that I have trying to fix this because it's so damn frustrating when you're in the middle of doing something and you can't stay connected for 30 seconds. Any help or ideas would be appreciated immensely!
My issue is the wifi connects but no internet message
Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA-Developers mobile app
Is this with different Access Points or just at a particular wifi spot? I would factory reset the device, reboot your router, make sure you don't have any odd settings on your router like modified channel bandwidth, etc. If the 6p doesn't stay locked on, it's a hardware issue and I would do a warranty claim. My 6p wifi has been money since January with every ROM.
when turning my wifi off it seems it goes into some weird loop of turning on and off constantly by itself, it doesn't seem to be trying to connect just flipping the wifi switch on and off none stop.
noticed it because i had a huge battery daring overnight and while trying to fix it i saw the switch going off and on all the time.
when turning it back on it seems to connect normally .
did a network setting rest but it did nothing ...
I'm guessing a factory rest will fix the problem but I'm hoping to avoid such a overkill solution :crying:
does anyone else had this problem and can help me fix it?
thanx!

original samsung rom.
just happened (i have the device for a a while everything was fine) its the android system that drains the battery in the battery status.
when i leave the wifi on it stops and works fine ...
Have you turned off ''Keep Wifi During Sleep''? I know this can drain battery.
It's not so easy to troubleshoot on an orginal none rooted phone.
You can try clearing dalvik and cache.
Turn it off and then on holding power and vol down button, then clear cach/dalvik and restart.
Try uninstall update beaming service for samsung then restart
If still persistent try uninstall update microsoft onedrive and skype then restart, just in case
I found it after factory reset (forgot internal data backup :crying and update all apps, this problem occuring after the last 3 updates (beaming, onedrive, & skype) which more suspect beaming service update make that problem
Your not alone
You're not the only one who suffer from this exact problem, on Friday or Saturday the same problem started occurring with my phone too, WiFi turns on and off in a loop and huge battery drain!
I saw an increase of 6% of battery drain per hour, so I ended up on 9% total drain every hour. :crying:
I have original Samsung Rom and phone worked prefect until now, no settings or apps installed before this happened either.
What rom version are you guys on?
I'm having the same issue. However, I'm on PhoenixX Rom. Major battery killer and has only just started happening within the past few days.
Since my phone has been unplugged, 3 hours ago, looking at BetterBatteryStats, It is showing com.google.android.gms as having quite a LOT of wakeups. 40 per hour (everything else is about 2). Don't know if this is normal as I don't remember it before the Wifi issue.
Looking into what the wake ups are caused from, Location and heartbeat were the major culprits. So i have turned of WIFI scanning when not on and also the body sensors for Google Play. We shall see.

Easy fix. Just disable Wi-Fi scanning.

its not a fix at all . it dosnt scan for wifi , just turning it on and off non stop.
like pressing the light switch agin and agin
I had this after installing "GoodLock" software from Samsung! Uninstalled and everything is ok
same here, just noticed I wasnt on Wifi and the switch is just flicking on and off by itself. Standard S7 with all the updates installed
Been struggling with the same for some days (4 - 5) I haven't been able to get exactly whats triggering this. I'm on stock rom with root. I've reinstalled firmware clean again and re downloaded my apps but it is still happening randomly. Some times after a few attempts to switch wifi on (even when it is toggling by itself) it manages to keep on. Sometimes restarting makes it work again. One thing I'm almost certain its that this usually happens after I turn wifi OFF and then try to turn it back on.
It's been crazy and the phone starts to overheat after a while off this on-off loop.
Any ideas?
its very wierd it started to all of us in the past few days-weeks . seems like samsung has a bug they need to hurry up and fix.
AT&T just pushed out the October Security update for the S7 family, I'm guessing something that came along with it is creating the problem.
mine did a software update last week and I've been away in airplane mode so it could have started then. I've just disabled scanning and that seems to have got round the issue and I'm now connected to WifI
I'm not sure whether it is a Samsung Issue or a Third party one... It is true that something recently affected all of us, but as far as I know, it could be a third party app that wasn't well developed for our phone.
I've noticed the same problem on my phone and it's also only started up in the last few days. On stock Sammy rom, unrooted. Will be monitoring this thread to see if the experts here can narrow down the culprit.
I had the same issue and I was able to stop the toggle by turning off the wifi scanning in Location - Improve Accuracy - WiFi scanning. It's a fix for now. I think it may be an app that may have been updates that is persistently looking for location updates.
Hello!
This has happened on multiple occasions:
When I flash stock, I have a routine that I go though, and one of the steps is to flash kevtweaks, found in one of the first few posts here:https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...od-performance-memory-battery-kevp75-t3638524
When I flash, it usually breaks my Bluetooth and Wi-Fi by stopping their ability to turn on. One time while flashing I found that turning on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth before flashing makes it invulnerable to this... but only once. As of now my Wi-Fi does turn on, but sometimes it takes a few tries and takes about 30 seconds. And my Bluetooth doesn't even act like it's going to turn on.
This is happening on G935A & G935U. The weird thing is some have reported this, and others have had absolutely no problems, including the developer, kevp75.
Inside the tweaks, the dev and I have both looked and can't find anything that would break this (though obviously it's something)
I REALLY like his tweaks, they really help on this crappy eng boot. So I'd like to be able to use my Bluetooth and his tweaks.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
