Installation failed while doing system update - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I have OnePlus 5, which previously I installed TWRP,
I tried to install the last update from OnePlus through TWRP (Recovery ==> Install option) but were given error 7
I gave up and installed the image from Oxygen Recovery and as of now no more TWRP
But when I try to update using (System Update option) on the mobile itself, it starts to download, then reboot to recovery, starts for a while then gives an error message as installation failed
Any idea what I should do
I have no issue to wipe the device

I have the same problem, can't figure it out either, really need help.
Will let you know if I figure something out.

I believe this has been posted in the wrong forum.

Please, next time post this is the correct. Ill have a mod move it. It belongs in Questions & Answers,
As for your problem. Which exact recovery are you using?
Give this twrp a try

After rebooting to recovery, click Wipe, then advanced Wipe, check Dalvik/Art Cache and Cache, swipe to wipe ........then go back and Install the Rom, it should not give that error.

Update failed n stuck at google logo

was on 4.3 JWR66Y with stock kernel, unlocked bootloader, rooted - super su, busybox & a Custom recovery i.e. TWRP.
with Few Mods i.e. 4 way reboot, battery circle & Custom softkeys.
my nexus 4 showed OTA 4.4 update notification, i followed process - it downloaded OTA & accepted "reboot to install", automatically restarted to twrp nothing happened further. so i did factory reset to try again but found out that the downloaded OTA file was gone! & it shown "no latest update" later i manually downloaded "KRT16S frm JWR66Y" zip (238.9 mb) frm google/android server & tried to flash using TWRP, well it aborted saying some error in the middle of flashing (flashing didnt complete). So i wiped cache, dalvik etc (excluding partition & internal storage) to try flashing the file again. Worst thing is the "reboot to system" says "there is no OS you still want to continue?" stuck at google logo. (did read somewhere to rename zip file to update.zip unfortunately it didnt work)
good thing is i still have access to fastboot/bootloader and of course TWRP
what are my options ? use NRT to go back to 4.3 stock everything & then try to update again?
Please help, thank you XDA..
(could not find any other similar thread i.e. rooted, twrp, unlocked bootloader, with few mods etc.)

If you have the zip you can sideload it. Or you can flash the factory images in fastboot mode. This is post here for the guides. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47762352&postcount=2

OnePlus 5 problem after update to 8.0 (Beta)

*** Sorry, my English isn't good ***
Hi, I have a problem with OP5, I decided to install OOS 8.0 (Beta), I had OOS on 7.1.1 (Root) (TWRP), I made full wipe in TWRP and installed OOS 4.5.14 (7.1.1), after that i get Stock Recovery and Iupgraded OOS to 8.0 (According to the OnePlus manual) -> Bootloop. I decided to go back to 7.1.1 -> Error, I uploaded TWRP and another attempt to download 7.1.1 -> The system got up but I can not do anything because I have an error "Udecrypting the device. (Write to do "Factory reset"), so again to TWRP -> Full Wipe and here is interesting, I get my error "Wrong argument", the phone does not see my built in memory (I write that I have 0mb), what can I do in this situation? Anyone know?
ERROR in TWRP: "Unable to mount storage"
Please help me.
Go to recovery -wipe-advanced wipe-data-repair or change file system- change file system. First select EXT2 and after that EXT4 and now you should be able to use your storage but you need to flash new TWRP (try this one https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=27442)

Thank you for that link. I was having another issue - the TWRP downloaded from the official site didn't work on the latest Oreo beta build and didn't overwrite the stock recovery and couldn't mount /data. This one did.
yeah im having major issues with mine, im now stuck in a download mode i cant get out of !
The first question is, you want to go Oreo or return nougat? In the first case, go to the dedicated thread, download the black TWRP and format data (if you can't read anything) reboot to TWRP again now copy the Oreo firmware and install it from the same recovery, reboot to recovery again if you don't have the stock one automatically installed, just flash it via TWRP. So once you're in stock recovery format EVERYTHING, reboot to system, and after you've configured the initial setup of your device if you want reboot to bootloader and reinstall the black TWRP and flash magisk 14.56 for root.. I've done this for getting this Oreo rom works
Exactly happened with me too. I even accidentally deleted all the contents of my storage. Tried to sideload via adb but got unknown device error. This thread worked for me
https://thedroidguru.com/how-to-unbrick-oneplus-5-phone-with-official-tool/
ive just restored the latest nougat firmware/radios and jumped back onto an aosp build until op5 gets official Oreo build

I can't install the OTA via the stock recovery :(

Hey! I have a OP5 with unlocked bootloader and had xxxROM v9.3 running
after updating to xxxROMxxx v9.5 I got a bootloop and decided to reset it
I flashed system, data, cache, dalvik with TWRP and wanted to flash the OOS5.0.1 OTA via TWRP, but I got ERROR 7
so I flashed the stock recovery, wiped cache, reset system, and tried to install the zip as an update but after a few seconds it closes without and error message and I am back where to select the zip file. I have already downloaded the same zip with different browsers 3 times and the old nougat ota as well, always the same! adb sideload doesn't work because OnePlus drivers suck with windows 10, it always says "not recognised" on my pc when I connect it. I have had many devices and adb sideload always works on my xperia z5 and fire tablet
pls help me I don't know how to fix that!
Use an Oreo compatible TWRP. Codeworkx, bluspark or some other.
Error 7 refers to some compatibility issue.

thanks man!
I don't know why it did not work before because I have already tried the recommended TWRPs and then I wiped everything, installed codeworkx universal and then flashing the zip worked just fine! I'll let it fully boot up once and make a full backup in case I f**k up again

Error 7, /vendors

First, you really should had done your Homework before you started.
Error 7 means encryption. -
Go to the first page of Lineage 15 and use the recommended versions posted, its sounds like you have the wrong version of TWRP. You can install an upgrade to TWRP within TWRP, just make sure that you reboot back to TWRP recovery after installing, (check boxes if present)
If you have the correct version of Twrp, try rebooting to recovery and flashing the Rom again : if you have the same error , try the steps below.
If the issue is simply encryption related
Its because there is user data in the storage part of the phone ( the part that holds music, photos, user date etc ) Apparently it did not get fully wiped, It is possible that you may need to do a full wipe, maybe even format storage before you can go forward.
Try doing a Full wipe first and then reboot to recovery, if you see check boxes to install Twrp manager make sure that you check them.
If you have to format storage ( type yes) Be careful reboot to recovery and check boxes to keep Twrp installed and install Twrp manager
Ensure that you have latest version Lineage, and the correct version of Gapps and latest Magisk, ensure that you have the right firmware, if you have an X720 use X720 firmware, you do not want to use the wrong firmware or you will brick the phone.

TWRP Problem with installing Magisk and GSuit and startin sideload

Hi guys, I have a Nexus 6P, and I'm stuck with a problem.
I have twrp 3.40-0 recovery and I from it when I try to start the ADB sideload it doesen't start and in the top menu there is a red text with "Failed" in the console there isn't any error. I've tried re-flashing the twrp recovery and even using the version before but the sideload won't start.
The other problem is: I uploaded to my phone a Havoc ROM, Gsuit and Magisk, so from the recovery I install the Havoc ROM and then I try to install the Gsuit and Magisk but it gives me updater error (Error is: "Updater process ended with ERROR: 1
Error insaling zip file '/data/media..") .
I've tried reloading the file onto the phone (enabling the debug mode in the new os) but again when I try to install them from the recovery the same error shows up again.
What can I do? (Magisk worked because before flashing the new ROM I have installed it and it worked)
Thanks for your help

hmm reflash bootloader, radio and vendor then re flash twrp as well wipe your data Wipe> Format data type Yes
Reboot to recovery then follow these steps:
Flash rom and gapps
Wipe > Format data > Yes
Reboot recovery
Flash magisk
Reboot system
Edit: Mine method doesn't need side loading, also u can check your drivers.

After I flash Havoc and Gsuit, and format data, when I try to flash Magisk it gives me updater error: 1 (even if I try to delete magisk from file manager of twrp)
EDIT: I was able to flash Magisk after checking system in Mount
