Hi all, I'm trying to find a ROM which is most like untouched standard Android (Like what you'd get on a Nexus device); this sort of ROM used to be referred to as 'Vanilla' but may also be know as Nexus or Google Play Edition.
I played with my friends new Moto X yesterday and the OS was so much faster and responsive than my phone, in my opinion. Furthermore, I prefer the aesthetics of the standard ROM; I know Motorola ROM's aren't completely free of changes but they are certainly a lot more uncustomised than Samsung with all its additions and customisations which I really hate the look of and find my phone gets laggy quickly unless a restart is performed.
I have extensive experience loading custom ROM's but I don't want to have to try all of them, I was hoping you may be able to help me find a ROM which matches my requirements. The addition of S Pen apps/compatibility would be awesome but I can obviously look into adding this myself if the ROM does not natively support it.
Thanks community!

If you just want plain standard nexus type rom them you just want plain cm from the original development section. There are a few versions of cm with added tweaks around as well but cm roms are pretty much only available for the qualcom n4 plus every cm rom will have a couple of bugs

Best ROM threads are banned. What works well for 1 person may not necessarily work well for you, its trial and error my friend.
aosp based roms
theres an aicp ported rom and rr ported rom in the development thread , also not on xda is du rom available on their website wich is what I'm currently using
note 4 910f best stable rom pie
im a newbie can you help please.
Did you find a rom that worked for samsung note 4 n910F marhmallow to pie? blutooth and camera ok?
A shop did this for me they tried twice but though android pie worked when I switched the fone off.. power off from the shutdown menu at end of day.... it wouldnt reastart at all. They gave up and reloaded samung marsmallow again which its running now.
As a newbie id appreciate knowng how and in which order you did this. Im thinking odin on computor, root fone to take nandroid copy twrp
If I end up with the same problem as the shop ie no restart, could I obtain and load an original samsung ver 5 or 6 android, as this would be easier than rooting the fone in order to make a nandroid copy.
THANK YOU !!! april 2020.
I just recently got my Moto X Pure Edition about a few months ago and have been loving it ever since. I signed up for MFN and got my Marshmallow update on my phone as well. I was wondering should I root my Moto X Pure Edition? I had a HTC One M8 and rooted that as well and enjoyed the customizations with XPOSED as well as the Sense Tool Box and whatnot. My question is should I root? Or should I wait to root?
Also will my warranty be voided? As in if I break my phone will they send me a new one, or should I wait a year before rooting?
IMHO, with all them things you mentioned that requires root for customization there is no reason to root at this moment. This device doesn't have custom roms that's worth rooting. No official CM support, no other DEV teams are developing for this device (let me know if I'm wrong?). I am optimistic that it will pick up soon, but as backup I ordered OnePlus X to play with so I can start flashing. All my previous devices were rooted and had plenty of roms and kernel to try. We have plenty of problems with MM. We need custom roms with tweaks to pinpoint these problems with lag and devices acting up. This device is universal. You would think support will be hot from the start. I will give it couple of months more to pickup. If nothing develops, I will move on or go back to OnePlus one.
My OnePlus one with custom rom is better than MXPE stock in every way. Let see what custom MXPE rom can bring to the table?

I saw they did a rom port 7.1.1 for the moto g 2015 from the g4 play. Was just wondering if anyone is even interested in a ROM port from the g5s/plus for our g5 plus? Would love to see it. Or are devs working to hard on Oreo roms that it just isn't worht it? Love to hear your opinions guys.

Why would anyone do that ? When all the custom ROMs are 7.1.1 and with latest upstreamed kernel.
If you want stock ROM 7.1.1, wait for Moto. They might as well release 8.0 directly skipping 7.1.1 for G5 Plus.

Well just wanted to hear some opinions I just feel like on stock the moto features work better. And having all that together with a more up to date version of android would be nice. Btw both moto g 2015 and moto x play have a lot of support and 7.1.2 roms. But I guess people were still interested in a rom port from the g4 play.. That's why I felt like I needed to ask this. But I do know what you mean

It's really astonishing that every week a thread with that question pops up here, I think at the moment we have three or four of these. Why has everyone to open a new thread to ask a question that can't be answered?
The only valid answer is: Try them out.
There is no "best" custom ROM, if there would be one we only needed that, all other ROMs would be obsolete.
But to give you a direction:
Imho the stock ROM is the best in terms of battery and performance.
All Oreo ROMs have bugs, some just small ones, others bigger ones. Examples are camera, video recording or high battery consumption.
Also there are some big problems if you want to return to stock, losing voLTE, losing 4G or IMEI are well known in this forum.
I wouldn't flash any Oreo ROM before Lenovo releases stock Oreo, the bugs can be sorted out and there will be safe ways to return to stock if you wish.
If you still want to flash a custom ROM Aosp Extended 4.6 based on Nougat is a good one but don't forget to make a nandroid backup before you flash anything.
This is only my personal opinion, as written above to find "your" best ROM you'll have to test them.

I just found out an AOSP Extended 6.5 rom for Moto X(2nd gen).
Can I use it to flash my Moto X Pure(2015) without any problems?
No, ROMs are hardware specific. If you want a custom ROM, you must find one intended for the Pure/Style.
