Hi all, I'm trying to find a ROM which is most like untouched standard Android (Like what you'd get on a Nexus device); this sort of ROM used to be referred to as 'Vanilla' but may also be know as Nexus or Google Play Edition.
I played with my friends new Moto X yesterday and the OS was so much faster and responsive than my phone, in my opinion. Furthermore, I prefer the aesthetics of the standard ROM; I know Motorola ROM's aren't completely free of changes but they are certainly a lot more uncustomised than Samsung with all its additions and customisations which I really hate the look of and find my phone gets laggy quickly unless a restart is performed.
I have extensive experience loading custom ROM's but I don't want to have to try all of them, I was hoping you may be able to help me find a ROM which matches my requirements. The addition of S Pen apps/compatibility would be awesome but I can obviously look into adding this myself if the ROM does not natively support it.
Thanks community!

If you just want plain standard nexus type rom them you just want plain cm from the original development section. There are a few versions of cm with added tweaks around as well but cm roms are pretty much only available for the qualcom n4 plus every cm rom will have a couple of bugs

note 4 910f best stable rom pie
im a newbie can you help please.
Did you find a rom that worked for samsung note 4 n910F marhmallow to pie? blutooth and camera ok?
A shop did this for me they tried twice but though android pie worked when I switched the fone off.. power off from the shutdown menu at end of day.... it wouldnt reastart at all. They gave up and reloaded samung marsmallow again which its running now.
As a newbie id appreciate knowng how and in which order you did this. Im thinking odin on computor, root fone to take nandroid copy twrp
If I end up with the same problem as the shop ie no restart, could I obtain and load an original samsung ver 5 or 6 android, as this would be easier than rooting the fone in order to make a nandroid copy.
THANK YOU !!! april 2020.

Hi guys, I have been looking in the Android development part of the forum for a week now and I need help in finding the ROM suitable for me. I have flashed about eight roms in the past week and i can't find the 'one'
I need your help
I'm looking for a ROM that looks like a nexus device (UI), I have tried the Google Edition but it was too laggy, but I want to be able to customise the device fully with pre-built settings like CyanogenMod or ProBAM. For example, I don't like the stock messaging app on the Google Edition ROMS, I actually prefer the TW layout, and so it would be nice to customise that. I also want a ROM that doesn't take up too much storage, so I am future proofed, and finally I want a ROM that has good battery life.
I like the look of CyanogenMod but there aren't any stable releases and there are only nighty builds, which I'm apprehensive about, because my phone is my daily driver. I'm also confused about people saying get CyanogenMod 10.2 instead of 10.1, but when I go to the Wiki page, there is no mention of 10.1 or 10.2...?
it would be great if someone could help me

I recently rooted my phone. I wanted to install a custom rom. My friend installed cleankat v2.6 but i wanted to go for something better. As expected none of the nicer ones like cyanogenmod or paranoid android or aokp roms were available. I managed to install htc sense rom . it is working but has lots of bugs. As soon as i make a call it crashes and screen goes blank. Nothing opens .it doesnt even swit h off and i have to remove the battery every time i make a call and reboot it.
Secondly many apps including settings crash for no reason.
Plz. Help coz i really want dat rom working fine

Hi Murali,
The nature of mobile development is such as you have mentioned above. It doesn't work like windows or linux etc where you can install a generic OS on any system configuration by any manufacturer. The firmware has to be specifically built for your device. It takes great skill to port inter-device especially inter-manufacturer ROMs, so the fact that you actually have a bootable and semi functional SENSE ROM for a non HTC device itself is a big achievement. But it will never function on your Micromax phone like it does on an actual HTC phone. There are too many dependencies to counter. Also, there is a lot of closed source code that is not freely available to developers, especially with overlays like Sense and TouchWiz.
I would suggest you look for a good Custom ROM built on your phone's official firmware or wait for support from CyanogenMod, PA, Slim or such series to offer support to your device.
Sorry for the bad news, but I hope it helps.

It might. Then again, it might not. Changing kernels can make a huge difference in performance, both in a good and a bad way. There are too many variables to contend with, and without a strong active community behind your device, any answer I give you will be just guesswork and not based on facts. You can always try out a couple of compatible kernels and test out the difference.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Hello everyone,
I personally never owned a Samsung device (always Nexus and mostly with Paranoid Android or Dirty Unicorns ROM) but my girlfriend has one and she defeniately needs it to be flashed :good:
As I am completely new to Samsung devices, I have no idea about all the developers and different ROMs that are out there for the Samsung Note 4 (Snapdragon).
I don't have much time to try around with different ROMs as it isn't my phone.
I need one that is good, stable, fast (and also supports the stylus / samsung apps). So I can flash it quickly and have a happy girlfriend
So that is the reason I an asking in the first place. Else I would just flash around and keep trying until I find the best fit.
I saw CM is officially supporting the Note 4. So that one might be a good solution. But does it have all those stylus samsung stuff?
Any other ROMs I should check out?
Do I need to flash a new radio?
Thanks in advance and sorry for posting another "which ROM" thread. But I can't really test around to find out on my own as it is not my device that I am going to improve !
If n910g, this is highly recommended, although you have to disable or uninstall later all apps that you don't want if you want a debloated rom.

It is N910F.
The link you provided is simply stock android MM?
Yes stock MM, stock is in my experience the most stable and bug free rom build. But the link is for n910g unfortunately.
Stock ROM, and then debloat yourself. Quite honestly speaking, and no offence to anyone, there are no good ROMs available for Note 4. In fact I myself might have not got the phone if I realised the development section is like this. And I am not interested in ported ROMs, so even though there are many available I won't go that way, and I am too dumb to make a ROM for myself, so stock ROM it is.
I agree, stock rom rooted and debloat it, and apply msm tweaks. If you want, xposed as well.

You must flash samsung based rom to have all soen features and samsung apps. I reconnemed kurama rom which in using , its battery friendly, fast and stock based. If you going to flash kurama rom you must flash modem and bootloader for the rom to boot up (only can be flashed from pc with odin)
Hi all, thank you so much for you suggestions and kind attention.
I'm gonna buy this phone soon, I'm new here, I would like to know which is the best ROM suggested here.
For best I mean especially bugless, stable, well optimized, and possibly updated.. what is your experience about? Thanks for sharing
xXx Rom by @xXx ... more to stock rom... always reply/update/discuss about bug etc.. simple stable fast smooth rom...
SM G900F 6.0.1 xXx 4.7.1 Boeffla Beta 5
thank you a lot for answer. I'm a bit confused since Boeffla Beta 5 is just a kernel and I need all package of MM 6.0.1 with hopefully the Boeffla Beta 5 kernel. Where can I find it?
Maybe I've to install any ROM with MM and then install the kernel? (And then gapps).
Thank you a lot
TW Based

Then name some.
[BIG RANT START] DON'T READ IF YOU'RE TOO SENSIBLE
All roms, they're almost the same. People get the sources, compile it, and release it.. and they all looks like the same.
Every non-stock-based (TW) rom looks and runs almostly identical.. They have almost the same functions, almost the same stability, they share the same "device tree" and kernel.
Even boeffla's kernel has no new features for AGES. And the "developer" just blames Samsung and wash his hands.. (and I have "donated" for his app)
I'm sick of no specific S5 stuff, improvements FOR s5 or performance tweaks FOR s5. I bet they mostly don't even USE a S5 anymore.
Even the ****ing microfone has ultra-low recording volume for AGES and no one cares. They just COMPILE what they DOWNLOAD from others and "release" it here.
And there are people THANKING them for making just this. Come on, it's not a matter of being ungrateful, but to be critical. I don't like mediocrity!
If you appear to be totally satisfied with the **** you're receiving, no one will give you more than ****!
And NO, I don't have to "do better" to complain about it or be critical about it. When did GOD say that you can't complain about something just because you can't do better? or it's just a xda's RULE to be a totally grateful lame fanboy about everything you're getting here? I'm just not mediocre.
But anyway.. peace for all.
On my old LG phone I used to run custom ROMs in order to free-up internal memory & squeeze out more performance (on an aging phone) and to get some additional features (on an aging OS). I haven't bothered to install a custom ROM on my Galaxy S5 because:
1) Stock Android 6.0.1 is really good.
2) Rooting enables you to remove bloatware and free up memory, via Titanium Backup. I've got all the apps I want and no memory shortage.
3) Installing the Xposed framework, and some Xposed apps (especially XtouchWiz) has brought to my GS5 all of the "built-in" features that I'd want from custom ROMs.
4) Custom ROMs tend to be a bit buggy and tend to waste a lot of my time because I have to update the buggy ROMs.
I am now perfectly happy with my GS5 and I can't think of a reason why I'd want to hassle with installing a custom ROM. But that's just me.
This sure turned into a whine fest. Install what you want. The great thing about having custom roms is the ability to flash different builds in order to get the features you want. I prefer stock cm13. Only issue that I have is Bluetooth stuttering on wake. There's it. Everything else is stable and predictable. Using xposed with a few modules adds some features normally in RR or Bliss but with, for me, without the lag.
Why I choose custom over stock? I cannot stand the thought of being locked down to a device I own outright. I should have the right to change my status bar. I should have the right to choose what apps I want on my device. I should have the right after paying 600 at the time to full control over my device.

this became really good thread!! Thank you all for posting your experiences! For me really great and I can save really lot of time!
Please keep posting your choices!
really with Xposed apps is possible to have all features of custom roms?
CM13 is the official stock rom? There is one with root included?
What about "with stock rom you don't have all the control of the phone", is that true even with root?
Thank you
AICP 11
running AICP unofficial on KLTEVZW with unlocked bootloader. Currently have it set up with gestures and all just the way I like. Have flashed a few other 6.0 ROMS but keep coming back to this one. Bluetooth on screen unlock is kinda buggy with screen unlock but is similar to the issues from what I understand with CM13. Android Wear seems to work as it should with first gen Moto 360. I have a note 2014 as well and just use it to stream music to my bluetooth speaker. Tag or PM be and can point you in the right direction if you would like to try it out.

theres just too many but the best ROM i think would be PAC-MAN cuz its got a bit of everything, however i am yet to find a fully working one. closest i could find was Ressurection Remix. its pretty dope.
In my opinion. Tipsy OS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3393668
is the most stable and up to date aosp based rom out there for the S5.
Fast, smooth and zero bugs.
Incorporates the latest theming engine

Xposed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811
works as well.

I'll reccomend VanirAOSP. It is pre-rooted, faster and more stable than CM13, and looks quite cool.

Have Verizon G900V and unlocked the bootloader using the forums here @ xda
vaniraosp lacks lots of features, as I remember..
Im using aokp with no complains ... it seems faster than others with its default kernel..
crazykernel reboots if you change almost any default options, and boeffla's lacks features and has some untested/buggy governors (less than crazykernel though)
it seems real devs are abandoning s5 as everything is just in an alpha stage forever
I’ve been trying to find a good, custom rom that runs 7.1.1 or 8.0.1 but I can’t find any. I also don’t have the knowledge or experience to build my own ROM. Can anyone build one or if there is one, send a link to me? I don’t like the custom roms that are currently on xda because they are using the stock touchwiz and I like a fresh android experience.

I'm in the same boat as you; I also really hate "TouchWiz" and other heavily modified stock ROM's. But as much as we really want a freshly baked AOSP ROM for this device I don't really see any devs interested in building for this device since 2015/2016 -- it's pretty much a goner now, probably long forgotten. The people with all these other Core Prime variants (G360H, G360F, etc) must be really lucky having some enthusiastic devs building for them, haha.
My Core Prime is broken now so I guess it's time for an upgrade, and that upgrade has to be a device with at least some level of good AOSP ROM support ✌?
