Rooted Verizon GS5 Lollipop - visual voicemail - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just rooted my Verizon GS5 onto Lollipop (earlier thread). I froze everything I didn't want running including updates prior to activating the phone on the network. In the past, Verizon seems to push the VVM update almost immediately, but it can't happen with everything frozen. My concern is, if I enable update, won't Verizon push the Marshmallow update too? I just want the voicemail app but I can't find it anywhere. Is my best bet defrosting the update stuff long enough to get VVM and then freeze it? Or, is there an APK somewhere?
tl;dr where can I get the Verizon visual voicemail apk? If not available, will defrosting the update stuff force a Lollipop->Marshmallow update that i DON'T want?

your best bet is to post this question within the following Q&A thread that's specific to your device.

I posted to that thread. Hopefully someone will see it either here or there.

I turned software updates back on to see if that would convince Verizon to update VVM. Nothing happened, so I checked for updates. It offered me the MM update but didn't offer anything else (I politely declined).
In the past, Verizon just pushed the update and automatically turned on the Advanced VVM which they charged for (downgrade to basic for no charge) and I didn't have a choice. Now I'm not even getting an option. My wife is on a Verizon GS5 MM and she has Basic VVM so I know it's not been eliminated.

This issue has been resolved. I called Verizon and after waiting 20 minutes on hold, I was able to get them to resend the Premium VVM offer which automatically upgraded my VM app to VVM. I declined Premium and now have Basic VVM.

[Q] Voicemail issues

I rooted my phone in mid September and removed the bloatware, including the visual voicemail, because I was told that it could be removed with no issues. Well my phone since then will not notify me when I get a voicemail. I have flexpay so I can't use any of the apps on the market.
I was stupid and didn't back up the bloatware that I removed. I am new to all of this, I guess I shouldn't have rooted when I didn't know much about it.
Can someone help me please? In stupid people terms at that! Thanks!

SMS/MMS issues starting at 5PM EST 8/2/2011

Anybody else having issues not being able to send or receive texts as of around 5 PM EST yesterday? I thought it was my ROM (HW 002/Deck's 1.3b/Tiamat), so I superwiped, flashed a Sense ROM to update my profile/PRL, then superwiped again and did a clean Deck ROM flash and I'm still not getting or able to send texts...
Quick update:
Figuring something might have gotten screwed, I downloaded the individual flashable zips for radio/WiMAX/PRI/NV and flashed them individually, wiped cache/Dalvik, booted back into Sprint Lovers, updated profile & PRL and I'm still getting nothing. I'm doubtful about an outage considering my brother's stock EVO is sending and receiving with no issues. I REALLY don't want to get Sprint involved considering they'll give me a refurb with the 2.16.0000 HBoot and S-On.
Does anybody have any ideas? Please and thanks in advance.
I'm on PRL 60680 and I live in Atlanta, GA, if that helps...
Another update: I downgraded to PRL 01115 and I'm still getting nothing. I give up.
Figured it out. Google Voice/Sprint integration has screwed my SMS/MMS so I have to use the Voice app as my messaging app. Now I have to figure out how to get it back to working with the native app. Any ideas?

You'll need to be logged in with your Google voice account but go
google.com/voice/b/0/#phones
and you can uncheck "Receive Text messages on this Phone"
the other thing you can do is call up sprint and have them remove G Voice from accessing your phone completely
I was thinking about that, but then I went to 2 different local Sprint stores. One corporate and one "Sprint Authorized Reseller" and both stores had somebody who "claimed to be pretty smart" at Android. Both of which told me that I can't undo the GV integration. I've got SMS & voicemail working albeit slowly thanks to the atrociously slow GV app. MMS, I guess, is lost.

SMS, MMS over wifi on Verizon

I was wondering if there was a way to get SMS and MMS to work over wifi with any app other than verizon messages. I've been a big user of that since they incorporated individual sounds for contacts. However, their most recent update has made MMS stop working entirely so I've gone back to Messenger for now. But last night I was at a bar with a friend and for whatever reason, inside the building a VZW signal was impossible. Outside the building it was fine....but inside it just dropped out. Wifi worked fine, but I was unable to send or receive any messages. Hangouts I cant remember if it could handle wifi for sms or not...and hangouts is not playing the correct sounds I select for contacts on my 6p.
i'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who used verizon messages that had mms stop working since that latest update. Of course they won't support the Nexus 6p, so I think we're stuck in a waiting game for now.
If you use Google Voice, you can use Hangouts for calls/sms/mms over WiFi or mobile data.
No.. I don't use Google voice. I've had my number far too long to switch to a Google voice number. I like the stock app.... But having the ability to text over wifi was nice with Verizon messages. I had a nasty exchange with their tech support. They kept telling me the same crap. I had to tell them as a nexus owner I'm not a tech idiot. It's on their end and started with their update. Fix it. Of course they continue to tell me it's my fault some setting isn't enabled when it is.

Just to respond to your google voice question. I had a number for almost 14 years. I ported that number over to Google Voice for 20$ one time fee and forwarded my google voice to my cell phone number.
I've been scouring the web for an old version of Verizon Messages and am coming up short. I'm hoping that by installing an old version, it will fix our issues. I'm going to try contacting the developer.

it is available on apkpure site. You can find many old versions. Just do a quick google search and you should find it.
Search Term: Verizon Messages APK
If I can find my S4 and charge it... I can use apk extractor to grab the old version of my S4 from before my nexus arrived. Also might be on my N7 if that hasn't automatically updated.
Big thanks to chichu_9! Inwas able to get last month's version on apkpure and now mms is working again, over wifi and vzw network. I just can't update the app anymore
Thanks @chichu_9 I got the apk from apk pure and all is working well again. Thanks.
So the Verizon Messages 6.0.2 works over wifi... correct?

yes, that is the version that I rolled back to on my phone and it has been working over wifi. MMS group messages have also been working.
I have 6.02 as well and everything is fine. I received an email from the VZW messages app team and they are aware and "working" on the problem
Adblock plus is blocking mms as of now. Remove it and mms will be back.
I don't have ad block and MMS is still not working on VZW messages. I'm completely stock. It's a problem with the latest update. According to Verizons email they sent me.. "we are aware of the problem and working to correct it"

Verizon messages update

I know not many people use Verizon messages.... But an update early in december broke MMS capabilities so I rolled back to a previous version via apk. They have since updated with a fix. But the app now asks for permission to make "system modifications". What? Let big red modify system? Am I being paranoid? I would not put it past them to have used that app to find a way to block the built in tethering for unlimited users. I'm still using the rolled back version but I'd like to hear from someone more knowledgeable than me if this is an ok permission to give, or avoid it like the plague.
Ur fine. Evolvesms does the same. Its to get the MMS.

T-Mobile visual voicemail

anyone here able to disable/enable visual voicemail while rooted? for some reason I'm having issues enabling/disabling while not getting any notifications from vvmail and I'm wondering if it's because I'm rooted. I know the T-Mobile Device Unlock app doesn't work while rooted, so I'm wondering if the vvmail app behaves the same... anyone know?

yep, I generally check updates several times a day and update manually... nothing for the vvmail app. Looks like it might be something on T-Mo's end since I've already tried uninstalling, reinstalling, even wiped the device to go unrooted and it's still having the same issues. I'll have to see what happens in the next few days...
T-Mobile voicemail
Stock Roms won't allow you to change voicemail number, but what you can do in phone app-settings additional call options and change the number to forward too when unanswered or there is 3 options. What I did to totally bypass T-Mobile garbage voicemail for Google Voice which is far superior and free. The new Google Voice update is freaking awesome btw. Hope helps.
