Why does it say Device status:Custom? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hey guys,
Tried updating my phone today and it said my system is modified. This was a brand new device when I bought it, in download mode it still says Official and I have never attempted to root the device. I've got Adhell installed but that's as far as I go. What gives? I can't do an official update. Any suggestions?
Edit: Samsung Pay and Secure Folder still both work.

mine still says, no update available, i was once rooted but not anymore on stock rom
I downloaded but it wouldn't or couldn't install it on my rooted unit.
Tried again, still will not install.
Anyone found a solution to not installing?
no update or firmware update available on my device? In kies it says this device CANNOT be updated? lol
mine still doesn't have the update. if this weren't Android, I'd be a sad mac. = /
Just got my replacement tab yesterday and when I checked for an update, it had one, but that just seemed to get me to 3.1 or something and didn't get me Touchwhiz.
I'm on a custom ROM for now, but I'd rather be on stock.
Anyone seen this live in the last day or so?
And again. Firmware update stuck at 13%. Tried with Kies. Failed. Tried with Kies emergency firmware recovery. Failed. I can only boot to the "firmware upgrade encountered an issue page" and the odin3 mode. Very, very disappointed with Samsung.

[Q] Problem "Unauthorized actions have been detected."

Hello everyone,
I just received my S4 AT&T (manufacture refurb, eBay), but the phone already is giving me headaches.
Every 5 minutes appears in the notifications the following message:
Security Notice:
Unauthorized actions have been detected. Tap here for more information. And then I tap and it appears: cancel or reboot.
After rebooting the phone the message keeps appears (is also keeps appearing if I tap cancel).
I think it's related with the wifi connection. I made some tests, and when I'm only in data connecting, the message do not appear.
Anyone have an idea? I really appreciate,
Matheus
I got the same problem
Phone was dead and i had to use odin to get back to stock.
Since that, I keep getting that warning too
Keep rebooting but still get the message ... all the time
very annoying

Its root

I just rooted my Galaxy S4 and started receiving these notifications. It is related to 'Knox' - Samsung's newish security feature, made to appease corporate customers. I side loaded the latest version of SuperSU, installed it, and during the install it asks if I want to disable Knox - said yes, issue gone. Note that you have to have root to install SuperSU

I just checked here, and my phone already have root access !!! it came "factory" rooted. It's VERY WEIRD. Again, I bought it from Ebay, and the seller stated in the ad: Manufacture Refurbished.
Once I'm new in this Root World, should I be worried about that? Like, it's is possible the seller put some malicious app in the sold phones? Sorry about the conspiracy theories, but I've never seen a supposed brand new phone (even though it's refurbished) came already with root.
Thanks

First thing I'd do with a new phone bought of eBay would be to flash the stock firmware in Odin. That way you know what you got and it would be like new. Just my $0.02.

I just started a similar thread and then saw this one. This happened to me also but as far as I know I did flash stock firmware, fnb1. It isn't the latest but it worked after several others failed so I just left it but now I have the same problem. Is it possible that I rooted the phone accidentally? I thought about trying towelroot to fix it but then I am rooted for sure. By the way, I never have found the latest stock firmware to be able to flash it.

[Q] Rooting/Unrooting problems

Ok, so ages ago I fooled around with my GT-I9506 S4 and rooted it.
Then I 'unrooted' it or so I thought.
I went to install a tap and go bank payment app on my phone and it refused to install saying my device was rooted.
I ran Root Checker and it said my phone was not rooted.
I went in to system settings and hit update and it refused, saying 'your device has been modified'.
So I have several questions,
1. How do I well and truly unroot my phone?
I'm downloading a stock firmware from Sammobile, should I just use Odin and do a complete reinstall?
2. Or instead, I see Xposed http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer seemingly can help you defeat root detection when installing handy apps.
Thing is I've tried connecting my S4 to my Win 7 PC which has the lastest Samsung usb drivers installed but it won't detect so I can't transfer APKs.
Grrrrrr. Oh, and Kies doesn't work either. ****ing Samsung, I can't believe how badly supported their phones are.
Both options would work.

S7 edge Exynos failed software update?

I basically have the same exact problem as this guy from another forum, there's this new update that pops up on my phone but I cannot install it properly.
"Hello all, The latest april update to my International exynos S7 Edge just got pushed and i tried installing it. My phone reboots, goes to the blue screen and shows an android image, and says "Applying Android update..." it gets to about 27% and fails, shows the dead android mascot with the yellow exclamation point, and then the phone reboots normally. And then a pop up appears on home screen saying Update Failed, please visit service center. What should i do to install the update? i've tried 3 times already to apply the update" -kofman13

What he said.
Failing that you can use Odin and Download the firmware and flash.
If the device boots and its rooted you could use Flashfire.
If the device is rooted, you wont be able to install the update via OTA
If you check a couple of my previous posts, i have re-posted a link to a Utility to download the firmware for you
(You are not stuck with slow download speeds from sammy website)
Am in a good mood here is the link, no need to check previous posts

Android Pay not working.

I Haven't rooted my phone yet but it keeps telling me this when I open android pay, when I first got my phone I set my up my card but now it saying that phone is either rooted or bootloader unlocked which isn't the case.
On Vodafone UK, before this I used my OP3 with Magisk with Android Pay but I haven't used that since I've got my s8 so I'm not sure what the issue could be.
Any insight to this?
Besides the usual factory reset.
same here EE UK S8 not rooted (yet) but comes up with same error message. It worked fine on my rooted and hidden with magisk S6
edit - oh and factory reset doesn't work as I already tried that. I thought it might have had something to do with bringing over magisk app from my google backup but I specifically didnt install that the 2nd time around. Knox hasn't been tripped so its not that
I'm having the same issue on a Galaxy S8 via Tmobile. I've never rooted it, have no clue if the bootloader is unlocked and I'm stock since I reset the phone the first time I got the error. Still getting the error and Android pay help chat was not useful.
Same issue here, on Voda UK. I used Package Disabler pro and thinking I might have disabled something I need.
So since I had OEM unlock enabled after disabling it, it passes and safetynet now.
I had no problems adding cards, but a few days later when I wanted to add more cards, I get the error. I can't remember what I did in between that would've caused this, but definitely not rooting! I turned developer option to off and still get the error.
My S7 is rooted and TWRPed and have no problems adding cards!!!!???
Very weird. Working just fine on my rooted s8+ with magisk.
I'm on T-Mobile with a S8 and Android Pay connected to my PayPal is getting card read error everywhere I try to use it.
Safety net says everything is ok too. Not sure what's going on. I have the newest update and not rooted.

Hi Can you let me know how you managed to root with Magisk and get Android pay etc to work?
My phone:
Model: SM-G955F
SW: G955FXXU1AQF7
I tried rooted and couldn't get it working, and now recovered to official ROM and still can't get it to work?!?
Dont you people know anythin?
All EU(exynos) S8 and other galaxies come with unlocked bootloaders. Thats causing the problem
Lock it
Hi all,
I already posted a question in the Official stock upgrade but it got lost in the other comments, so I'm trying my luck again.
I had an italian branded SM-G950F (OMN), I wanted to remove all the Vodafone stuff, so I installed a MULTI-CSC as per the official stock firmware upgrade thread, when I did it I had my Australian sim card in and I got a weird UK CSC (the multi CSC didn't have australia in it), after installing everything I noticed that Android Pay didn't work, so I did a factory reset with my italian sim card in and still Android Pay was complaining that my firmware was modified or rooted.
I decided to use an australian specific firmware so I downloaded an XSA firmware and did the procedure again.
At this stage Secure Folder and Samsung Pay work (the phone is NOT rooted, this update has been the only "mod" I have done) but Android Pay is still saying that my rom may be modified or rooted so it doesn't open.
It is pretty important for me because my back supports android pay but not samsung pay
The phone is not rooted, if I reboot the phone in download mode the warranty void bit is 0 (which is good).
If I use Root Checker Pro, under safety net tab, I get CTS profile match as FAIL, I was thinking this could cause Android Pay to fail.
any idea?
start to uninstall suspicious apps, then restart . worked with my un-rooted S8. OEM unlock: OFF

Does rooting in UK\Europe void our warranty?

Hi mariuscrist,
I'm not sure what app can be suspicious, I have reinstalled the apps I had before the firmware update and I could use android pay then. I'll see what it can be, probably it could be worth to do a factory reset and test android pay before anything else?
