Has anyone seen mobile Installer app under apps>show system apps? This app was disabled when I discovered it and is not shown in the apps drawer.

Here is the image.

Yeah, I've seen it but mine is enabled. I googled it and found out that this system app is notifying/updating other system apps so I'm going to leave it alone.

My phone is on Oreo beta 2...Don't know how the app got disabled. Carrier hub is also disabled and it seems to be Sprint thing. I am on T-Mobile.

That app is for wifi calling. Is your wifi calling working while it was disabled?

Yes it works properly. , It's possible that I am on T-Mobile and that is why it auto disabled itself.

This is so weird! I don't have carrier hub but Sprint hub and it is for wifi calling.

Probably, that explains it!

Would be good to find out from T-Mobile users, if "mobile installer and carrier hub" apps are disabled on their phone.

Don't know if it is safe to assume that mobile installer is also a sprint app or is activated when Sprint sim is inserted. I enabled this app and felt that phone is doing something in the background as phone showed a little lag. I disabled it again.

I have both enabled by default and I don't see any lag at all. I checked them in developer options and found out they don't even run in the background so I just left them alone.

Right, why not, especially if apps don't hinder device's performance.

I seen the same thing. I'll see what happens when I enable it, run my phone for a bit while enabled. See if I see anything different.

I have Verizon and have gone in and uninstalled everything with "Sprint" that is found with Titanium Backup.
I have disabled Carrier Hub and Mobile Installer.

Its a malware app. My wife just got a new S20FE from Tmobile and the tech said to disable it ASAP. He said they have no apps on their phones that have japanese languge on their phones. Theirs is called carrier hub in english. My wifes and daughters phone all had this app. Had to disables all three of them. Her account was also affected from the Tmobile breach. Its a monitoring virus people.

Can't Download apps over 4g

I'm with bell and for some reason the download gets queued whenever I try to download anything over 4g. Is there an option somewhere that I can change?

No, that seems like an issue that needs to be brought up with your carrier.
Is anyone else from bell having the same issue?
I was having that problem until i installed the new opera mini browser and uninstalled it. Don't know if it was pausing before but since i removed opera the stock browser and market are working properly. Also cleared cache and data under settings applications.
Gave that a try, still no luck. GRRR
Since this has moto blur, try going to settings and data management i think it is or something like that, and turn off data saving feature. It should be somewhere in there.

Does anyone know of a program or app that works on phones that have the Location Services turned off? Probably not, I'd guess, but figured I'd ask. I leave Location Services turned off whenever I'm not using something that needs it, which is most of the time.

I don't think its possible. Without location services turned on how would an app find your phone. Just curious, why don't you have location services turned on? It isn't a big hit on battery so it doesn't make since. Unless you are one of those big brother is watching nuts.

Nuts? I don't think there's any reason to get personal here. And you don't have to be a "nut" to see all the privacy issues in the news almost daily. And with companies like Google, Face Book, etc that are avowed data thieves, er, collectors, I think it's wise to do what I can to try and keep my data more private.
I am a senior programmer for a large international company. We got into data mining way on the front end of the craze. But we never stooped to collecting the levels of personal identity level information most folks just accept these days. So I know how it works, and choose to limit what they can collect from me.
I'm sure you've heard of App Ops? (Assuming you're either on 4.3 or a custom 4.4 ROM that has it). OEM's like to hide it away, but it is still there and still very much usable. You can set which permissions an app can use (to a certain extent) and if it tries to access something you've turned the permission off for, the device returns an empty set (essentially "null") for that data.
Here's the link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.schurich.android.tools.appopsstarter
This app just calls the location where App Ops is in Android. Note that this app will *NOT* work in 4.4, since Google changed the way it's accessed.
edit: I've used this to disable a lot of what Facebook can access, among other apps.
Thanks! Looks like a great app. Runs great on my 4.3 S4.

is it safe to disable ims service? What does it do?

It seem like ims service is constantly trigger the cpu wakelock? Does anyone know if I can safely disable it? What would not work if i disable it?
I tried disabling it on mine, and my dialer no longer worked correctly. So I'd say no, it's not safe to delete.

I was hoping it just related to the wifi calling from the search I have done. I guess I will hold off this idea for now then.

I turn off wifi calling. I'm not sure if i need turn of HD calling..
Ive uninstalled it completely via Titanium backup, no issues what so ever, dialer still works, im running Oreo on a S8+.
Confirmed, I've also uninstalled com.sec.ims, com.sec.imsservice and additionally I've uninstalled com.sec.epdg. No issues so far.
My understanding is that IMS is basically responsible for provisioning all carrier related features such as HD calling, Wifi Calling, ADV Messaging, etc. If you need/want things like that then you must not disable. Otherwise you should be ok.

Identify unsaved callers in AT&T device

Hey guys, I got my S7 edge comes with AT&T device. I searched through the settings and nothing shows up in phone settings. Is there any solution to make it appear and enable it? Does it work after I enable it on the settings? Thanks
I'm not sure if AT&T has that option. But I think You should look in settings for Enhanced Features. But I'm not 100% sure. So try that and yeah.
There's an app in the att folder in your app drawer, I forgot what it's called but you'll know when. You see it

Easiest way (but your phone must be rooted) is to add that line:
Code:
<CscFeature_Common_ConfigSvcProviderForUnknownNumber>whitepages,whitepages,whitepages</CscFeature_Common_ConfigSvcProviderForUnknownNumber>
to /system/csc/others.xml

Oh I've already tried that. I also cleared my cache from recovery and from the settings
For battery drain there are few known culprits
1. Disable chrome
2. Disable Gear vr service if you don't use.
3. Disable all other bloatware
4. Disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth scanning
5. Disable Android and Google (both) report diagnostic report from setting
6. Location to battery saving or off.
7. Smart features off.
I'm sure excess drain will go irrespective of what wld shows.

Have the chrome that came pre-loaded disabled but I use chrome dev. Disabled gear vr. I kept other bloat enabled that's under the hood, heard if you disable some of that stuff it could cause a bigger drain. Diagnostic report is off, location is on battery saving, I use smart stay and smart alert, have smart capture off.

Yes only disable stuff that you can from app drawer.
Is Google location reporting on or off that is also a big drainer.

And use BBS please. It has nothing to do with kernel, it's impossible to pinpoint without partial wake lock and the other issue you have it carrier signal related, fast dormancy

Yes. I know it's pain in the ass to set everything up again but it is a major change, from one iteration to another of the system and common sense screams factory reset .
