Extra "internal storage" and files that can't be deleted - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I'm currently using Root Browser to view my files. Under the storages list, it says that I have 2 extra internal storages, as shown in my screenshot. If I go into one, I get 2 folders, image and verinfo. These files can't be opened and deleting them doesn't do anything.
I just personally want to get rid of these files and those 2 storage entries because they just clutter up the app. I suspect it might be partly due to a few days ago when I tried going from rooted Nougat to the Oreo beta 3, which caused a lot of issues and I had to eventually wipe my phone because the data was lost.

Those two "internal storages" are actually the firmware and modem images of the phone. They shouldn't be deleted. They shouldn't even be displayed in the file manager.
Do not delete them, or you will brick your phone.

Thanks for the info. So it's just a problem with the file manager app then? I guess I should contact them and see what I can do.

I don't know if it's a problem (it may be voluntary, some people do need to access the firmware). Although I never encountered any file manager that displayed the firmware by default.

[Q] Interrupted download

Hi guys,
I was downloading a rather large file to my legend (froyo, not rooted) when it suddenly crashed. After reboot I noticed there was about 25Mb less space on my phone storage. I tried to erase the data of my browser but it didn't help.
Is there a folder where incomplete downloads are stored? I use Dolphin Mini.
Hope you can help me!
thx
Try looking at the Download folders. If I'm not mistaken corrupted download files stays put even if the browser crashes.
Nope, there's nothing left in the downloads folder. Even the gentil people from Dolphin themself couldn't help me.
Maybe you can use a file manager to check your disk usage. From there you can track where did that missing space went. I might be troublesome but I think you will find your missing space.
I have Astro File Manager, but I couldn't find my missing space.. maybe because my phone isn't rooted.
Anyways, I did a hard reset and that solved my issue so this tread may be closed.
Thanks for the replies!

[Q] LumiRead - delete the 2 free books and locked folders

Hi all,
2 questions:
1) How do you delete the 2 free books - White Fang and Adv Of Mark Twain? I deleted them on Lumiread UI and they come back. I deleted the files directly and they come back again! What am I missing here?
2) There are 3 locked folders for book folders from /mnt/sdcard/LumiBooks|Digital Editions|Download. How do I get rid of them?
Thanks!
i really want those books gone too....
I am not sure but I am going to take a guess here. Maybe you need to root your device and using a file browser, change the properties of those 3 files to r/w so you can have full control over them. Hope this can help buddy, I am not really an expert on this area, maybe someone else has a better solution.
Actually, its just keep restoring them rooted or not.

yeah. im rooted, checked and they both say rw.
try deleting them in the app and in file manager. they still restore somehow
They are burned into the Rom
Right, I'm rooted as well and everytime I delete them, they come right back!
Very annoying.

[Q] Strange issues with my storage...?

Hi all, first time asking a question on Nexus 4
Days ago I decided to upgrade CM10.2 from an earlier nightly (build number JSS15Q) to a newer one (JLS36C), so I dirty flashed and everything seemed fine at first, but:
1) When I connect my N4 to the PC, it links up in MTD mode, I can read, copy, rename and delete contents from it, but I just can't put anything into it. It says something like "device is offline or has stopped responding". I thought it was a random issue so I ignored it.
2) One day later, a nightly with build number JLS36G dropped, and I want to back up my data with Titanium Backup before I do a clean flash. I knew previously that to use TiBu on 4.3, the backup folder has to be manually changed, and this worked for me before. This time, however, even after changing folders, TiBu still reported "insufficient backup space" no matter what I do.
3) Yesterday I wanted to upgrade some softwares on the phone, but many installs fail with "out of space" alert, while I confirmed that I have plenty (5GB+) internal storage left.
4) And today I am using Root Explorer to manage files. I just want to move a file to another folder. I created the folder with success, but pasting operation failed, still because of "not enough space". The same happens for CM's File Manager.
Now I'm out of ideas. The best bet is to start over from a clean flash, but since TiBu is unusable, I will lose all my SMS/call log, which I can't swallow. I'd be very grateful if anyone can tell me what's behind all these issues, or/and can teach me how to back up SMS/call log with a file manager. Thanks in advance
***EDIT***: I figured out how to manually backup/restore my SMS/call log, and went on to do a clean install, but even after a clean install, Root Explorer still reports insufficient free space. I can install softwares normally, though.

I'm pretty sure of that. I have 7.6GB files on the phone (calculated by copying all files out and checking their size using Windows), so free space should reasonably be 5GB. All softwares on the phone report this value too.

Wipe cache, dalvik, data, system (yeah I'm not that noob-ish to forget this), and install the downloaded package. I didn't install any mods after that. Clean enough, I guess.

An update to this situation: I think that using a factory image I might be able to "clear" the partitions and hoprfully revive my storage, but when I tried to back up all my contents in storage to PC using MTP connection, it got stuck at "calculating time needed for copying files" or sth like that. I have ~3GB of (unsynced, of course - I'm in China) music and some precious data I don't wanna lose, and at this size I couldn't back them up on the clouds. What to do now?

[Q] Force close loop after editing platform.xml

I wanted to bypass the kitkat restrictions and be able to upload directly to the external SD card with AirDroid, but this seriously backfired on me lol. Ever since editing the platform.xml file in /system/etc/permissions/ and rebooting the phone I've been stuck in a continuous force close loop. I've wiped the cache but this didn't improve anything. I was able to turn all data connections off which actually prevents the force closing from happening, but that seriously diminishes how smart my smartphone is so staying like that is not an option
Now that I've stopped the messages from happening, I've noticed that my internal SD isn't being recognized anymore. Camera doesn't work, the file manager shows zero files and my gallery doesn't show any pictures either. Same for the MP3 player. Most apps are broken now, but some who don't require an internet connection still work.
At this point I'm thinking that I've probably corrupted my internal SD? I think my system partition is fine as I can still run apps and use the system as it should, but I can no longer create files, maps or do anything that requires my internal SD.
Are there any suggestions as to what I should do next? Formatting/factory resets are a last resort so I'm hoping anything can be done to recover my phone! Thanks in advance!

Your SD card is recognized by the PC or laptop? I think you wrote some fault in the platform.xml file... can't correct it?

My PC is able to recognize the internal memory and that there is only 2,7GB of free space (which seems about right). However, when I enter the drive it appears empty. Windows isn't able to see anything. So in that regard Windows is acting the same as my phone.
As for platform.xml, I added <group gid=”media_rw” /> to “WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE“ and didn't do anything else besides that. It's really weird how this happened in the first place.
Any suggestions how to go from here? =)
edit;
I also removed the added permission but this didn't change a thing.

Should have probably tried this. Instead I became frustrated with the device and did a factory reset (which didn't solve a thing) so the problem is somewhere in the system which is causing the errors. Going to flash the latest stock rom in a bit and HOPEFULLY the phone will work again.

A factory reset will only wipe the /data part. Because you did something in /system that part is untouched. A reflash should fix it.

Yeah I noticed, my bad.
However, I flashed the latest stock rom and did another factory reset but the problem is still present. I keep getting a force close loop. What am I forgetting? What can I still do to fix this problem? I'm at a loss here xd

hi,
As you were "playing around " with your externalSD why you don't copy everything you have on it , format it and see if it works ..before restoring anything onto it

Can't download anything... Also can't move or delete files with root explorer

I am having a problem downloading anything from Google chrome app. It starts off getting the download setup and then automatically goes to queued and continues to stay that way....
Also having problems with downloading the latest chrome update in the Google play store. It just continually just sits in the downloading state and never changes.
I also can't remove or delete files with root explorer. Says process was failed no matter what I do.
I am running a clean install of pure nexus 12-1 build with, pure nexus gapps, and kyro 5.8 kernel.

check unknown sources in security, clear google play services cache, set root explorer to read/write (r/w instead of r/o or read only). These should have been done upon installing the rom and root explorer but can't hurt to check redundancies nonetheless

All of these things were taken care of before I put together the post. I checked the unknown sources, wiped cache for google play services, also set to R/W for root explorer. I have also tried to clear cache on google play store and tried a older version. Went to into recovery and wiped dalvik and cache, then rebooted and no change. Also wiped everything but internal storage and reinstalled everything with no change. Thanks for looking into the post though! Any other help would be greatly appreciated!
If you have any backups, I'd suggest you restore them
I just tried a clean install of Pure Nexus rom 12-1 and Pure Nexus gapps with no other apps installed or changes to settings and its still the same results
I have also came to find out that I cant move files around when connected to a PC on MTP mode. BUT I did find that I can move and delete files all I want in recovery TWRP. It seems to be only a problem when booted up and running that wont allow anything. But when in recovery its doesn't? Any insight would be GREATLY Appreciated!
Now I have flashed everything back to the latest stock img but did not relock and unlock the bootloader again. Followed the instructions in section 9 of this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206928. Also did not wipe internal storage. Then continued to boot the phone with STILL the exact same problems!!!! What is going on here?!!!
It also force closes my camera when trying to save the picture.. But it will take the photo..... My bluetooth will not connect to my huawei watch.. any ideas at all? anyone!?

Yes...when you returned to stock, did you wipe your entire internal memory, or just flash the stock rom?

Sounds like you need to format the internal storage. Backup everything you want via an otg usb in twrp the format internal storage and c if that fixes it...

I did not wipe internal storage. I didnt think that was the issue. I flashed everything back to stock but did not lock the bootloader again. What is otg usb? I have already backed up my devices files on my computer.
So do u guys think I just need to format my internal storage, reboot and then just reinstall my internal storage via usb when rebooted?

Yes, but do not just throw your files back onto your device.
Do as indicated below, or as close to this as possible...this assumes that you've properly backed up your files, and ready to nuke...
1. Either dive into TWRP, or via fastboot (or a toolkit like Wugfresh), wipe your internal memory
2. Factory reset your device
3. Install whatever rom you want
4. Only copy the contents of your folders, NOT the folders themselves.
Item 4 is critical, inasmuch as your device automatically recreates folders on your phone, including downloads, etc.
The folder labeled camera inside the folder labeled "DCIM" only gets created after you've taken a photo...so you can see why just throwing folders and files back to your phone creates a hot mess.
One drawback of using TWRP is that when restoring files from your computer to your device, they'll have a date of 1970 or something similar...the upside is, of course, is convenience and speed.
Good luck!

You have an alternative...rename the folders on your computer to something like "downloads2" or something similar, and just drag the entire folder.
But yes, do not, under any circumstances, copy the folder of the same name.

I'm a weird one and always eipe my internal storage. When I came from stock to this I doenloaded all the files I needed including the latest vender, erased all partitions under advanced wipe besides internal, then flashed the img's and zips "Purenexus and gapps" then formatted internal. Been doing it this way for years and have yet to ever have a bad flash or problems. Cant say the same for people trying to keep their stuff. I always say if it is important, back it up. I always put my pictures on the pc before I flash roms. But that's just me. I don't want files left from the previous OS because i've just seen problems arise because of it.
great job mic and jrb...
