Also, if you don't know, you probably are encrypted
But as said, go to the security menu to check

Yes i am encrypted. Thank you for the info.
How is it possible to get decrypt? I dont want to, but maybe i do it by mistake when flashing new custom roms.. Dont know..

To go decrypted, you need to go into TWRP and format data (an operation that needs confirmation by typing "yes", so you'll know.)
Doing so, you will lose everything and really everything on the phone memory so do a backup.
Then sideload a ROM, and follow the steps from its thread. If the ROM needs decryption, then you'll be required to flash a small zip called No verity. This will stop the phone to encrypt.
If you flash nothing then the phone will be encrypted upon next Reboot.
Just follow the exact instructions in your ROM thread.

Return to Stock? (B20_Boot)

Not that I want to, but if I wanted to.. Is there a way to return the unlocked bootloader version back to stock to where I can receive OTA's?
Like I said, I don't necessarily want to, but if I needed to for some reason.

I've been flashing custom ROM's for several years, but I've bricked one too many phones over the years "not knowing" the correct way to do certain things... So I started this thread to see what those steps were because I'm too scared to attempt it myself. :silly:

I'm curious too and I wanna give it shot,
P. S. Any way to use terminal or adb to pull the partition list with their Extension?
Like for sample. " ext4 system /dev/block/sde13 " or something similar with extension?
Has anyone got a step-by-step for this yet? I searched, but don't see a "Back to Stock" thread

i created a Thread for users who have run into the No Boot issues and those problems , so i can gather more info of the causes of their problems but nobody had reply yet,
just waiting so i can test things and get back to Stock B20 with Root + TWRP and lock bootloader
It is still not clear where the unlock bootloader state is recorder. I have checked a couple of partitions but they are identical to locked B20 (aboot, devinfo were my prime suspects)
So assuming that this is not a permanent thing for the bootloader state and can be reversed, steps would be something like this
1. lock bootloader
2a. flash Stock B20 image and signed(tenfars) TWRP via axon7root
3. Reboot in TWRP (read only mode), full factory wipe (wipe plus /data format), flash original system image via twrp, wipe data again
4. turn off phone, don't reboot (no system start)
5. flash stock recovery via axon7root
6. Reboot to Stock Recovery direct (do not boot)
7. Factory reset from stock recovery
8. Reboot
But there are a few unknowns yet, even with stock system, boot and recovery we still have stuck loops unless using modded boot. My guess is that TWRP mods /system on exit, that's why i put read only mode but not sure if you can restore it if it's not rw. Since it's image to device it should work, RW is for mounting partition
And big one is if unlock state is permanent or not, not sure anyone tried yet

Gottcha.... I was just curious, because I'm starting to have a few random issues (reboots, apps opening without tapping them, google voice commands not working like they did just a few days ago) I'd like to get back to stock and maybe start over. Of course, I didn't make a backup up until after I flashed SuperSU and my apps downloaded so I have no "stock" TWRP backup. **But, this all could be "theme" related too, since I'm running a dark theme that isn't quite compatible with the A7 yet.
I may try removing the theme and let it run a day or two and see how it does?

Help!

Just sayin bro...
And btw some things just dont work well without a PC. Even though it might be possible to work around it you might just wanna do this on a computer with these commands in adb:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
and
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
and then reboot

Why would you want cwm? TWRP is way better. Oh and your recovery is gone. You can be lucky that you didn't brick your phone. Next time, use TWRP instead and ONLY if you have the ability to restore everything with a PC. ONLY make such hard modifications to your phone if you have a PC nearby

Ok, I suspect something may be wrong with your root or TWRP or ROM, which may be the reason for the odd problems.
So do check & confirm root anyway, & also tell us the versions of your TWRP & ROM (latter in Settings > About phone > Build number).

Hello friends
My phone is HTC One m8w
There isn't "update" in
Setting
About
Android version,
5.0.1
Software number
1.0.0.m8w
Build number
4.19.1402.15 CL458284 release-keys
Please help me for this problem
How can I update my phone?
Thanks a lot
Hello, I experienced something similar- complete absence of system update! A little digging revealed that any modifications to the system partition would render the device un-updateable, so naturally I downloaded the complete marshmallow package update for my device, booted into standard recovery, and updated from sd card
Hope this helps

if you are willing to, just root your phone and flash the marshmallow rom on to your phone and use titanium backup to backup everything before you do so.

You don't need root to install TWRP, nor to install a custom ROM.
Exception is Verizon, where you need root to s-off, and then unlock bootloader; as bootloader unlock by HTCDev.com is not supported for that version alone.

If you get bootloader unlocked, you basically rooted your device cause now you are allowed to modify the system data and make modification that can result in unusable phone. Plus if you are willing to take the risk of unlocking your bootloader, why don't you just root anyways, its just a matter of flashing super su zip.

No, you didn't. Root is a very specific thing. You either have root (SU) priviledge, or you don't. Unlocked bootloader does not give you root privilege. It only allows you to flash unsigned zips to certain partitions.

Because it would be a wasted step (completely unnecessary), if you are going to flash a custom ROM.

Think of it this way. If you flashed a cm ROM without root in the first place, you would get root. I'm not saying unlocking bootloader immediately give you root access but it allows almost anything that you flash to have root access

Some folks keep incorrectly stating that you need root to flash custom recovery on this device (on some devices, you do - but not this one). I'm just trying to make sure that misinformation doesn't keep getting conveyed (the post after yours said it, too).
Stating the process precisely, is the best way to do that.

Hello,
What is you current twrp recovery (file name)?
What is your magisk version?
Is your storage encryped or decrypted?
What new update(version) is shown in ota?
To which version do you want to update?
It's not that easy, you need to check some things.

If you unlock the bootloader you'll see that warning message, that's normal!
Please flash this twrp https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UlTftbe6wooAs4Fp0cjwXlOKmfQHgdfL/view?usp=drivesdk
Official ones are not the best choice. Then you boot to your new twrp and flash magisk uninstaller, then flash from the .ota folder the downloaded (more than 1GB) oxygenOS 5.1.4 and after it magisk 17.1 before boot.
Report back what's happening and watch the twrp log carefully for errors!

That's the issue with encrypted storage, it's recommended to remove screen lock/pattern/code before such updating processes(see root guide). Go to twrp and format data(where you need to verify the format, not only wipe), that solves the issue.

Is this OOS-specific? I've gotten OTA updates and my OP5 is rooted with TWRP.
I've not seen this mentioned before, so I'm just curious what environment would prevent OTA updates.

You cannot take ota updates like on non rooted devices with custom recovery:
-you need to download the full rom rather than ota update file when system updater detects root
-you need to follow some specific installation instructions https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...xygenos-4-5-2-7-1-1-ota-t3627003/post72799040 otherwise you'll lost twrp, root and maybe your decrypted storage won't let you boot your device
That's what I mean
I still don't 100% follow:
For example, when I flashed Lineage, it explicitly refers to "custom recovery" in the install instructions: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/cheeseburger/install
Before I started using my phone, I installed su: https://download.lineageos.org/extras

I have received OTA from Lineage about 2 or 3 updates now. When I choose to install an OTA, it will reboot into TWRP and complete the upgrade.
What did I do differently, that's allowing me to get these updates opposed to what OP is experiencing? Or is what Lineage is doing, is downloading the full image and Oxygen is not?
(I realize the OP is about Oxygen, but I'm trying to make sense of the differences in OTA updates) - Apologies for hijacking the thread, I'm genuinely curious. Thanks strongst for trying to explain!

You will more than likely need to format data. This will cause you to loose everything. But that is what you are seeing, those folders, are your data. Just encrypted.
Also make sure you are on the latest version of TWRP. Sometimes the older unsupported version had encryption errors.
Omg this saddens me! So there's no way I am unable to at least retrieve my pictures?

First time entering in twrp after flashing update, I did not get folder to flash magisk, did a reboot and get it, just a bad encryption code I think
Did u flash rom or anything else before getting this problem ?
Yup, I sure did! 4am couldn't sleep so I thought I would finally put a fingerprint mod on; which I have done this before with no issues. For the life of me, I don't remember which mod I tried to install thru Magisk.
My phone is currently stuck on "Phone is starting"
I also think it's time to look into some sort of automatic back up service..... Got any ideas?

I did try to uninstall Magisk in twrp using adb shell. I never had any luck with that msmdownloadtool and not only that it relocks your bootloader.

Good luck !!
I saw this happen when I used the official TWRP app.
It went away when I used this TWRP. Hope that helps.
I'm glad you already know not to use the MSM tool. Too many people jump straight to this.....
You just need to boot the correct recovery and your data will decrypt, and you will be able to back it up to a PC, then you can reload your ROM via TWRP or Fastboot to get the phone bootable again. So now it's a question of what ROM were you running before. Do you need a recovery with the latest security patch or something older? What TWRP are you running. Try 3.3.1-6 psychen6 linked too first. Boot that image from Fastboot. See if your password/pin will work to decrypt your data.
