hello this is my first post
i unlock the moto e4 verizon with unlock code and it was unlocked but the phone cant make calls anyone else have this problem with the moto e4 verizon
What network u trying to use ? GSM services will only work for data and text .calls just end
Why don't you flash the stock images from the unlocked variant?
Be default, Verizon lock prepay phones from making call.
Although that's interesting because call works for me using Mint Sim. Try factory resetting as well.
Had the same problem, and then noticed that there was no APN listed. After manually entering the APN info from my other T-Mobile phone, I was able to make and receive calls without any trouble. Only thing was that the network drops to 3G during the call--not sure what to do about that.
maybe worth a shot
change preferred network from 4g to 3g, make a call, and change preferred network back to 4g. It's been working for me in cricket that way. same thing in post #8 of this thread

got the code from ebay
The Verizon E4 Plus works fine for me after unlocked. Tested with both AT&T and Tmobile with no issues. I purchased yesterday at Target for $99 and requested $2 unlock code yesterday. Got code this morning and it works great.
For some reason the device automatically drops to 3G when making or receiving calls. However voice quality is good if not HD.
Overall this is a pretty strong device for under $100...shame is you cant unlock bootloader.
Here's a video showing receiving call and dropping to 3G.
After putting my Cricket sim card in, entering unlock code, and setting up the phone, I followed the "trick" so phone calls would stop dropping to 3G and stay on 4G LTE but it would not work. I tried the following:
1. Change to 3G, made a call, change to LTE, made a call and it still dropped/showed 3G
2. Change to 3G, made a call, and restarted phone. Change to LTE, made a call and it showed 3G still
3. Change to 3G, made a call, and restarted phone. Change to LTE, restarted phone, made a call and it showed 3G still.
The Cricket APN is set correctly as I see 4G LTE when not in a phone call. I am able to make/receive calls, sms, mms (for mms had to use Textra over the default Message+ app).
Any other ideas I can try to get phone calls to be on LTE?

Hmm...someone on Slickdeals replied to me saying for Cricket, to get "HD-Voice", you need compatible Cricket phones, which the Moto E4 Plus clearly isn't --> https://www.cricketwireless.com/support/apps-and-services/hd-voice/customer/compatible-phones.html
Not a big deal about having phone calls drop to 3G. I was just curious because people and the wiki mention to do that "phone 3G/LTE" workaround.
I can't add any APN. On the Settings, I get a message "Access Point Name settings are not available for this user". There is no way for me to add any APN. Mobile Data works on my T-Mobile SIM.
Edit: Never mind. My bad. I was juggling two of these phones and only one of them had a SIM card. The one with the SIM card allowed me to add an APN.
But I wonder now how this is going to work when I travel abroad and have to use a SIM that would roam across multiple networks. I'd have to add each one manually? Without knowing which networks are available?
Phone(verizon e4plus ) took an ota while on att sim (was sleeping didn't notice til now ) now I only get busy signal tone when I call out I still have not and text messages just can't call out again without that dial tone happening
I own a SM-G935V that I'm using with Tracfone. It's running 7.0/Nougat, patch level 4/1/2017. On another forum, here's what I wrote:
I've run multiple tests on this and it turns out that if I reboot my phone, I do not get reconnected to cell service unless I make an outgoing telephone call.
The reason why I didn't notice this is because I use Google Voice for about 99% of my SMS communication. So here's the test I ran:
1. Reboot phone, wait until it comes back online and I have bars and 4G on my status bar
2. Call my phone from another phone -- goes straight to voicemail
3. Send SMS via phone's SMS -- goes to pending and is never sent
4. Make an outgoing phone call not using Google Voice but my cell network resolves the issue
I've changed the network from Global to LTE/CDMA, but it makes no difference. I've also turned off the wifi and tried to see if I would be denied for data access, but that is not so -- I can visit websites without any issue. But doing that DOES NOT reconnect me to my cell network. So it seems that since I'm using 4G/LTE for data, that authentication is separate from the cell authentication.
I got a response from another user that's experienced the same issue. He said he had no problems with Verizon prepaid SIM but the same exact thing with a Tracfone Verizon-piggybacked SIM. His solution was to push an unbranded firmware on it.
I'd rather not go this route if I can help it since the phone works well and this is the only issue I've encountered. Any suggestions?
After a restart or boot up I cannot receive calls and cannot send or receive text until I make a call. After making a call I can send and receive text and receive calls. Everything else works fine before the call. I have had this issue with 2 different sim cards, Page Plus and now Total wireless, both on Verizon network and this is a Verizon phone, with Nougat v 7.0, no root. I have a Verizon sim card and put in and the phone connected to the network like it should. Here is the kicker, I have 2 of these phones and both are doing the same thing with Page Plus and now Total wireless sims, not connecting to the network until a call is made from the phone.
Things I have tried :
reset network
reset phone to original state
safe mode to see if an app was causing the issue
cleared phone cache
changes network mode to LTE/CDMA
Access point is: TRACFONE.VZWENTP
Total Wireless wants to change sim card. It's possible, but I doubt 2 different sim cards from 2 different companies are at fault.
Verizon never heard of this, at least at a corporate store and tech won't talk to me.
Samsung wants me to send the phones in but at my expense.
I am out of ideas and can find nothing on the internet about this issue. I believe that it is a setting in the phone since the Verizon sim card connected like it should. If this has been addressed please point me in that direction. Thank you for your time.
Ok... I screwed up! There is a new Verizon tower near my house and I wanted to update my roaming, so I did the *228. Alas, by accident I chose option 1 (Program phone) instead of option 2 (Update roaming). Immediately after that I lost LTE. 3G is the best I now get.
I am running 7.1 latest update. Not rooted.
Suggestions on how to get LTE back up?
Thanks!

That describes steps if I were using Oreo but alas, I am on Nougat. I will look for similar issues.
Thanks!

Try this:
*#*#4636#*#*
Phone Information
Change Preferred network type to LTE/WCDMA
If after cycling your connectivity it doesn't pop onto the Verizon 4G network, reboot your phone, you should be good then.
I dont know what it is about that setting that is different, because Verizon doesnt support WCDMA, however this seems to select the correct type of LTE connectivity and you'll be in that. Be aware though, this will likely prevent 3G from working if you enter an area without good 4G coverage.
I have tried all recommendations. LTE works for a while then it is back to 3G. On a further note, when this happens I cannot send a text message but a reboot will solve the text message issue.
I am at a loss. It seems there is no way to make the settings accessed by *#*#4636#*#* STICK.

It not just you. I have been frustrated for weeks. I thought it was only because I upgraded to 8.1 but your situation just answered that. I just ordered a new SIM from Verizon and wont run any programming once I install it. I contacted Essential on it as well as others. I hope the two can work this out.
Best option is a new some. *228 is usually no suggested on LTE unless you really know what you are doing. The PRL should be automatic on LTE.
get a new sim, your is borked now most likely
Will try new SIM tomorrow and let you know...
A VZW rep had me do *228 when I was having some issues with texting when I first got the phone. Fixed the texting issues but then I couldn't get LTE either. A new SIM fixed both issues I was having. *228 is apparently known to bork VZW LTE.
Had the same issues after using the *228 method I advise not using that at all been stuck on 3g since. Getting a new sim thursday hoping that helps (using straight talk Verizon Sim)
Here is a bit of information I have discovered. The phone is stable as long as I NEVER turn on WiFi! IF I have WiFi turned on (no connection to a network required) AND I enter a poor or non-existent service area, I loose service until I go back in with the *#*#4636#*#* and change settings back yet again!
anyone with a new sim got it working? Verizon shipped me one today and put it in. Avoided calling 228 but cannot get the sim to activate itself.
Got a SIM not provisioned error. I turned it off, took the SIM out and checked it, put it back, rebooted and still nothing. Not connecting to Verizon Network. Im afraid to call support because they will insist to call 228 to program it.
BTW the final version of 8.1 fixed all the Verizon weirdness I had going on. I popped it back in 'Global' in the Mobile Network settings (which is equivalent to 'LTE/CDMA/UMTS (PRL)' in the Phone Information section) and it hopped immediately on to Verizon, no kinda looking like sprint, no blank, no need to dial *228 for a new PRL it just worked. In fact on reboot it doesn't sit there with No Service scrolling across the screen for 15-20 seconds after boot, it shows up Verizon Wireless immediately.

That's good to hear I switched to an old straight talk TMobile sim I had while I wait for the replacement straight talk Verizon version hoping things go as smoothly for me when I pop it in

Very frustrating for me. This is my only concern with this phone . Im still stuck in 3G after doing the upgrade, hard reset, and popping in a new SIM without dailing 228. I will change my Mobile Netwok settings to yours above.

May you should try reinserting your sim my phone self corrected once my update was done.
Here are my results:
Installed new SIM - same issue
Did a network data settings reset
Verizon did a flush and reinitialize of my account.
Still same result.
Don't know exactly how or why but about 10 mins later I noticed my phone was OFF.
I powered back up and MOST issues we're gone.
The final fix was to go into developer options and turn on "cellular data always active"
Working great on LTE+

Try putting it in "4G/LTE", wait for it to connect, then back to Global.
After I posted my above message, I did go mucking around in the settings and got it stuck in 3G (even after reboots, etc), then corrected it by doing this.
And quick clarification for the post above this one, it is "Mobile Data Always Active", mine was already on and I never modified it, so that must be the default.
No idea why this started happening but every time I try to make a phone call, it'll hang up immediately. Checked all the settings and nothing has been changed or altered. However, I am still able to access the internet and send text messages. When I try to check my remaining voice and data by entering *777*1#, it'll say, "Connection problem or invalid MMI". It just doesn't make any sense. Contacted Airvoice Wireless and have yet to hear back from them. Has this ever happened to anyone else?
It must be a whitelisted model if it's running on AT&T's network. 4G VoLTE must be enable in hidden settings as well. A new sim card may be needed. AT&T stopped supporting 3G altogether.
Model whitelist (more may have been added since this doc release):

Yeah. My phone's model is whitelisted. I have the H871 variant of the LG G6. After doing some research, it would seem I need a new SIM card (as you mentioned). Nothing I have tried has worked so far. I even went as far as factory resetting my phone. And of course, it did not fix the issue. It's the SIM card. I did access the hidden settings but didn't really pay much attention to the 4G settings. I'm going to go back to that and take a closer look at those options. If there's a VoLTE option, that might do the trick.

That's the problem if it was running on 3G. My Note was running on 4G VoLTE when I got it so the sim card and settings were correct.
4G VoLTE must be enabled.
AT&T advanced tech support can probably help you. May take more than one call to get someone that knows what they've doing though.

I get my service from AirVoice wireless but have yet to hear back from them. What I found out by messing around in the secret menu is that when I choose WCDMA Preferred, everything works just fine. I can call, text, and access the internet. On that setting, 4G is displayed up top. What I found out was that any setting that displays 4G LTE will block my ability to make a phone call. If it says 4G, then I am fine. The problem with this is that everything will reset when I turn off my phone. So, it's pretty annoying having to set it every time. Is there any way to make my selection permanent?

Not sure. The carrier may need to do a reset on their end.
