AT&T LG G6 Keeps Hanging Up - LG G6 Questions and Answers

No idea why this started happening but every time I try to make a phone call, it'll hang up immediately. Checked all the settings and nothing has been changed or altered. However, I am still able to access the internet and send text messages. When I try to check my remaining voice and data by entering *777*1#, it'll say, "Connection problem or invalid MMI". It just doesn't make any sense. Contacted Airvoice Wireless and have yet to hear back from them. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

It must be a whitelisted model if it's running on AT&T's network. 4G VoLTE must be enable in hidden settings as well. A new sim card may be needed. AT&T stopped supporting 3G altogether.
Model whitelist (more may have been added since this doc release):

Yeah. My phone's model is whitelisted. I have the H871 variant of the LG G6. After doing some research, it would seem I need a new SIM card (as you mentioned). Nothing I have tried has worked so far. I even went as far as factory resetting my phone. And of course, it did not fix the issue. It's the SIM card. I did access the hidden settings but didn't really pay much attention to the 4G settings. I'm going to go back to that and take a closer look at those options. If there's a VoLTE option, that might do the trick.

That's the problem if it was running on 3G. My Note was running on 4G VoLTE when I got it so the sim card and settings were correct.
4G VoLTE must be enabled.
AT&T advanced tech support can probably help you. May take more than one call to get someone that knows what they've doing though.

I get my service from AirVoice wireless but have yet to hear back from them. What I found out by messing around in the secret menu is that when I choose WCDMA Preferred, everything works just fine. I can call, text, and access the internet. On that setting, 4G is displayed up top. What I found out was that any setting that displays 4G LTE will block my ability to make a phone call. If it says 4G, then I am fine. The problem with this is that everything will reset when I turn off my phone. So, it's pretty annoying having to set it every time. Is there any way to make my selection permanent?

Not sure. The carrier may need to do a reset on their end.

Uscellular g4 with tmobile sim

I dont know if anyone else has tried this but i popped in my tmobile sim into my uscellular g4 and had service the only thing i had to add was the apn
This is without a sim unlock bought the phone 2 days ago and been using it was going to get a sim unlock but apparently it works just fine without it on tmobile.
Just to show that its a uscellular g4
Are you getting full speed LTE?
Yes doesnt seem to be a problem only thing i noticed is it wont let me make calls and or text but it will let me use data
When i make a call it tells me its an incorrect sim so i think if i unlock it will allow me to make calls and texts but as i said previously itll let me use data no ptoblem
I had heard that some CDMA phones may not allow phone calls or texts, you should look into finding a way to disable the CDMA, it may or may not work.
I think calls and texts are going through the CDMA and not GSM.
I have to agree i think if i sim unlock it that it will allow me to bypass the cdma part of the phone uscellular said after i pay the phone off i could get the sim unlock for it
No need to sim unlock, it already is, most new phones from verizon are already sim unlocked and some other carriers as well, only help is probably trying to disable the CDMA in the hidden menus and probably enabling gsm.
I agree with @Arctic Prodigy, you should be able to make calls texts, just by changing something in Settings. On my One Plus for instance (the only device I have handy, sorry) go to Settings > Mobile Networks > Preferred Network Type and then change from CDMA or whatever it is set to, to GSM/UMTS or something similar to that if it's available. To reach this menu on your device it may be slightly different in Name or location but it should be there somewhere. A friend of mine had a VZW s4 and I told her she could use a straight talk sim in it. She had issues at first but I do remember I changed this setting I mentioned above from whatever form of CDMA setting it was on to GSM and it has been working fine ever since!
I would think if it were sim locked, then you most likely wouldn't get data after setting Apn. This tells me it sees the tmo sim and that you have active service, so it is allowing phone to use the data connection.
Hope this helps!
Sent from my A0001 using XDA Free mobile app
It has these and i changed itto global and gsm/umts and still vouldnt make calls or texts
It tells me when i make a call its an invalid sim even after changing it to global or gsm/umts
But like i said it lets me use data so ill have to do some digging i used to dev for the note 4 so ill have to learn lg's a little shouldnt be to hard
I know the T-Mobile iPhone 6 has CDMA as well but it is disabled, regardless of changing in the settings to gsm/umts it still maybe trying to go through CDMA, you need to disable CDMA and enable gsm in the hidden menus and if you get it to work that way you may need to reset it if you reboot phone.
The problem is i havent been able to ascess the hidden menus ive tried all the known lg hidden menu codes
I am positive it will happen soon, I have seen a posting somewhere here for the hidden menu but it still might not be accessible just yet, but a developer will get it soon enough, I know for the LG G2 or G3 the CDMA phones all have been patched to get gsm. It's only time now.
Well if i can put a few heads together that have a uscellular G4 im sure we can access the hidden menu for the uscellularG4
Try 277634#*#
Also found this link http://androidforums.com/threads/how-to-turn-4g-on-off-access-hidden-menus.638374/
That doesnt open anything at all for me
It seems to be working only on some of the G4's but not all.

Nexus 6P: Calling Issues — Cannot Make Calls, but Data/Texting Works (Verizon)

Hello,
I recently upgraded my Huawei Nexus 6P to 6.0.1 (dirty-flash, sideloaded).
I had trouble getting LTE to work at first (turning on/off Airplane Mode makes LTE work). I kept trying to change Field Test settings to make LTE work.
However, when I factory reset it the phone won't make or receive phone calls.
It sticks on "dialing..." and it just won't work. However, data and messaging work just fine.
I forgot to back up my EFS partition so it's partially my fault.
My IMEI number and MEID show correctly, however on the My Verizon website it shows a different MEID that's nothing close to the original one. The last 2 digits were different. Neither the MEID or IMEI were changed during the upgrade process, so it should have worked fine.
I recently called Verizon Tech Support about this and they said they'd change the MEID within 72 hours to 4 days. (I called Friday evening)
They kept having issues with the server rejecting the MEID and I checked, it's not blacklisted. They told me about a "wrong form" being filled out and ran some tests and nothing worked.
The phone MEID and Field Test menus showed properly though, just calling any other number (even Verizon's activation number) won't work.
I kept factory resetting, even downgraded to 6.0 (clean flash with recovery/radios, unrooting and all that), and LTE worked better, but STILL no phone calls!
Whenever I try to activate it on the website, it keeps telling me to contact their number. I'm not sure if I'll need a new SIM card because I've tried another SIM card and will also not make calls.
I'm not sure if calling has to do with the MEID or IMEI or anything else.
Do you have any tips/suggestions to fix this annoying issue?
Thank you,
Exec360
I've seen the issue going from Wireless to LTE and vice versa but I have no issue making or receiving calls. Texting and MMS work ok also. I went from 6.0 to 6.1 by doing a factory image flash. Now I'm Chroma and I'm curious if I would have this same issue on Stock so I will probably flash factory or a slim rom stock tonight. I'm on Verizon and had a nexus 6, I popped the sim in my 6p and it activated with no issue.

Same here, except I popped out the SIM from my iPhone 5S.
Ironically, when I put the same SIM back into the 5S, calling and voicemail, in addition to data worked, even though the device was recently deactivated from Verizon.
I'd say the issue probably comes up from a corrupted IMEI/MEID or other identifier. (Not completely sure about this though — the IMEI/MEID was the same between popping in the SIM for the first time and after resetting...)
Verizon detected my device as a Huawei 1511 phone and thinks it's an old Samsung feature phone when I run it through support/help pages.
I have the exact same problem with my phone and I don't know what to do.
update: I just flashed the efs backup file and it worked again.
I forgot to back up my EFS partition and I had 2 chances to do so...
My IMEI, MEID and SIM ID show perfectly in the About section, even when factory reset and bootloader locked, but calls still don't work, very odd.
I used Wugfresh and just about every IMEI recovery tool I could find (EFS Professional) but it keeps giving me errors such as "Access Denied..." with BusyBox installed.
Still no email or response from Verizon techs tonight, expecting one tomorrow.
If not, I'll have to RMA.
More specifically, I cannot find an EFS folder or a nv_data.bin file in any file explorer — Root Explorer, Solid Explorer, TWRP, etc.
Alright, I've actually figured out that the problem is NOT the EFS after I sent it in to Verizon.
My IMEI and MEID number and everything else were actually just fine.
It wasn't flashing or anything that ruined my phone... I recently called Verizon one night on my phone about LTE issues on 6.0.1 and after that, the calls just stopped.
In fact, the problem IS on their end.
They gave me a new SIM card and it didn't work. They realized the phone was new on the network and that would cause incompatibility issues.
Now I have to ship my phone to their IT department which takes about 2 weeks.
If that is your case:
Verizon guide to getting your calling back:
First, I'd try flashing an old EFS backup when your phone was working. If that doesn't work, call their support number (1-800-922-0204) and select the tech support option or say it if it asks.
Give them your SIM card number to try activating the phone. If that doesn't work, you can still send in your phone — just ask them and a phone kit will ship.
Sending it in to the IT department will take around 1-2 weeks, so you should definitely have a backup phone or communication device on hand (you can also just use Google Voice from a PC which is a great temporary solution).
I'll say, BIG props to Verizon for giving us very good support.

AN easier method is to use any Verizon phone with a microSIM and activate on their network.
Once the SIM is active, cut it down to a nanoSIM and put it into the Nexus 6P.
It just works. All this about sending your new phone to them for two weeks is crazy.
I pulled the SIM from my LG G3 and cut it. Up and running in minutes.

Unfortunately, my other phone does not have a microSIM. NanoSIMs usually work with LTE connections.
Trimming a microSIM is dangerous and could actually damage your SIM card tray and your phone.
Thank you for the advice, but I should warn you taking that risk may actually damage or cause issues with the SIM card itself such as not being able to read its SIM card number.
EDIT:
After 5 days, 3 factory resets, and many flashes of the older radio, it has been SOLVED!!!!!
First, try disabling, reinstalling the factory version of Google Connectivity Services, then updating it in the Google Play Store.
Next, dial *#*#4636#*#* on your phone application to get to field test mode. This function will work no matter whether the phone is working or not — it's just an information screen.
Click the 3 dots and select "change radio band". Select Radio Band 6, NOT USA or Radio Band 7 — Verizon told me to try both of those and they are glitchy.
Source: "Attaching 2 screenshots. One with band 6 where calling works but data is 1x. Another with USA band where LTE data works but no calling. Looking closely it's set to emergency calls only." (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64149076&postcount=8)
Now my GSM service is working and calls work extremely well!
Glad it had nothing to do with EFS/IMEI numbers after all.
Make sure to set your APN to "VZWINTERNET" if it hasn't been set already.
I'm glad I can share this with XDADevelopers so that they can benefit from this information.

In the US, all carriers are supported for Nexus 6P use. Since you live in Qatar, you may have a different carrier.
Here are a few other points or solutions for this issue:
If your carrier is not Verizon, does your carrier whitelist the Nexus 6P or only phones sold through them?
Do you get an IMEI number in the Settings application? (don't put it here for privacy reasons) If you don't, then your issue most likely has to do with accidentally deleting or modifying the EFS partition. Try restoring an EFS backup. ALWAYS back up your EFS before you install something else or root your phone — and keep it in a safe location! Alas, that was not the case for me.
Have you tried turning Roaming on inside your cellular network settings or have a specific roaming plan?
Do you get decent reception when making calls in Qatar? Where do you have this issue most, indoors or outdoors? You should get 1x at least.
Try the field test mode (*#*#4636#*#*) in the phone application. Go to "phone info".
If you see "GSM service: emergency calls only" on Verizon, the GSM band is not connected which makes phone calls. Switch to Band 6.
Otherwise, if you see the same thing for GPRS, try switching to another band. I'm not familiar with carriers except Verizon or other US carriers (AT&T, T-mobile, etc.)
I've emphasized this a lot, but try a factory reset. Lock the bootloader and remove your custom mods to the system. It may just work for you.
The case may be that the phone service does not work in Qatar, your reception is weak, or you have a specific phone plan. It may be your carrier not being compatible with certain bands, like GSM.
If that is the case, try calling their support and ask them for any possible solutions to the problem.
EDIT:
You also stated that you bought your 6P from Ebay. Many risks can come from buying used phones off of there rather than the official websites. It's likely that someone messed with the EFS and IMEI numbers.
It could be a stolen phone too... in those cases, it would be illegal (in some countries, not sure if in Qatar) to change the IMEI number unless you have an EFS backup. Sorry, you may just be out of luck. Try another solution like Google Voice or Skype (paid) for now until you get it fixed.
Thx bro

Here in qatar, i have one friend having the same fone from amazon and it is working fine. Here no CDMA plus texting and data are working. If the efs is corrupt or as u say screwed, it would work data and text? Band USA and 6 re ok with data and text.. Band 7 dead.
In general, it may corrupt the phone function but texts/data may work fine.
Most carrier connectivity issues usually come up from a corrupt EFS or the service not being activated on your plan.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ask-question/423732-understanding-cwm-backups-efs-partition-etc.html
For you, it seems like Band 6 is the correct one. No CDMA — and GSM is working again. Good job
Another method to try:
Update the Preferred Roaming List (PRL) - dial *228 on the phone app or figure out your carrier's PRL update number
That might work, didn't affect my calls since I don't use roaming services.
By "Band 7 dead", do you mean that the service just won't connect? My issue came from messing with the bands to fix the LTE issue and messing up my phone.
Try to call your carrier's support — try getting a new SIM card or collect information about the Nexus 6P compatibility, if they don't have it on their website.
Was the phone working since you first used it? Have you rooted or done any system-level modifications to it? Also is your carrier Verizon, because I don't think they have strong roaming service in Qatar... I am in the USA right now using Band 6, working fine.
https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/494218
When you dial, do you get "Dialing..." and just have to wait until it hangs up, or is there static, or a carrier message? Does your friend have the same carrier (Verizon) as you do?
Sorry I'm asking so many questions. I just can't quite identify your issue very well.

Thanks for exerting all kind of possible solutions . really appreciated ... I ll explain next everything ..
First of all I'm no verizon subscriber .. I just got the phone from ebay shipped to qatar .. that's all international buyer ..
well secondly, the service is activated. here is different than yours in activation process. Plus my sim card is working on all other devices, opo, op2, opx, mi redmi n2, moto g ...
I believe the problem remains in the piece I have now (nexus 6p) because im used to buy phones from the US and they work fine expect some missing LTE bands that does not really interfere with calling service.
If the EFS/IMEI is corrupt, will it register on the network normally? will data and text still work?
Band 7 dead means no text no data and surely no calls ... plus when I chose it, i always get called ended right after i press Dial a number
experience with other bands:
band USA: text and data working fine ... calls: when dialing, it keeps dialing until the network fails and returns again like reconnect (the bars disappear and return again) and when i hang up, it respond quickly and execute the action but on,
Band 6: text ok data ok , calls no .. but when dialing, it keeps dialing normally till it gives me (call ended ) and if I try to hang up after few seconds, it freezes the phone for like 10 seconds till it execute the action of hanging up ...
so the USA band is the most responsive band in terms of hanging up ..
when I dial *#4636 .... , and access phone information to change preferred network, it is usually set to LTE/CDMA/GSM (PRL) >> if i try to change it to LTE/GSM (PRL) because no CDMA here, it usually return to the default after restarting the phone .. it does not really change the network if, for example, I choose GSM only .. I still see LTE on the bar .. moreover, when i try to choose 2g from cellular networks from settings, it does not reflect and I still get LTE working .. weird ..
** in all cases, FYI, I always see the carrier name in the top left corner of the screen.
*228 does not work as Im not verizon .. plus any USSDs are not going through as it gives error "connection problem or invalid MMI code"
when I try to access caller ID, it gives error " network or SIM card error".
I tried to call the carrier but they could not do anything. I'm still expecting a call from their back office team who ( i assume ) has more experience
getting a new sim would not help because I have tried different active sims different numbers and I also tried the second carrier here in Qatar (vodafone) and the problem persist.
the fone never worked since i reached Qatar. It was not rooted. I only unlocked BL and flashed the first factory stock rom (fully including the radio), yet nothing
wait wait please don't lose hope
one friend here is also giving me ideas and solutions to get over my isssue, he suggested i flash chroma rom bcz it has more bands. I will flash it and give a feedback.
I really appreciate your efforts and also his efforts @Soulfly3
pardon me if I wrote too many things and for giving all my trials not in order
Thanks
Thanks everyone for helping me resolve my issue. biggest thanks goes to @@scoobysnack who helped me greatly to get over it.
Installing Chroma ROM solved the issue because basically it was a problem of bands. Chroma had more bands that work in Qatar. and I could return back to stock rom again without any problems ( but don't mess up with bands in phone information )
Thanks @Exec360 for offering me your great support >>>
I told you chroma would solve your problems. it has different bands to select and I figured the "AUS" bands would work.
Any advice for those of us operating on Verizon's extended network? I'm using my device on the Appalachian wireless network (with whom Verizon has a network sharing agreement as part of it's LTE in Rural America program), and I'm constantly getting the roaming indicator, even though I know I'm not roaming. I've never dealt with this on any other device, and I've used 4 different devices encompassing both Windows Phone and Android. If I switch the CDMA roaming indicator to "Home", the roaming indicator disappears and the usual LTE indicator appears, but I'm unable to make voice calls. If I switch the roaming indicator to "Automatic", I can make voice calls but the roaming indicator returns and the device tells me I'm roaming inside the test menu, even though Verizon tells me I'm not incurring roaming charges. If that's true, then the roaming indicator is just an annoyance, but it's there constantly (even when on WiFi) and for me it's a significant annoyance. Is there anything I can do, or is this just something I'm going to have to live with?

OnePlus 3T T-Mobile VoLTE issues/fix

I know this has other threads, but I wanted to post something that helped me get VoLTE working that none of the other threads addressed.
Quick background: new to TMobile, new to the 1+ brand. Rooted, stock. I could get LTE, but I kept getting kicked to roaming AT&T H+ or 3G, couldn't get VoLTE, and very slows speeds even when on LTE. Tried every APN combo, network settings reset, factory phone reset, tried every *#*#4636#*#* preferred network type...nothing. Chatted in to 1+ asking if I could speak to technical support. The response was the only way to fix it was to factory reset (which I had already done) and downgrade OOS. The newest OOS has the T-Mobile optimizations, so downgrading makes no sense! Needless to say, the whole 30 min chat was a waste of time and just a bunch of weak canned responses with no attempt to really help or figure out how to escalate me to someone with some knowledge of the APNs and settings needed.
Out of desperation, or since I had tried every other possible trick, I went under my T-Mobile SIM, Network Operators, and toggled Auto Choose and manually chose TMobile 4G.
Boom, full bands 4, 12 and VoLTE, and normal speeds! Carrier aggregation is even working sometimes.
I don't know why Auto Choose doesn't know how to grab 4G permanently, but everything is working!
Does anyone have any idea why this fixed it? Since I choose 4G, will I lose my ability to get 3G in rural areas? I don't feel like there was much info on how VoLTE is provisioned on the phone.
What's everyone's experience with the preferred network settings? I'm currently in LTE/UMTS, and I don't have the LTE/GSM option that apparently everyone else has...?
Also, does everyone else have as sporadic speeds as I do? One moment it'll be 40 down, next it'll be 6? I know it has to do with bands, but should there be a way to even that out a little?
Sidenote: I really like 1+ mentality about rooting and software, since I have to have a rooted phone, but this experience really soured my first impression. Plus their 1+5 is a major letdown to me. I don't think I'll purchase anymore 1+ products.
Feel free to correct any misinformation in my post.
I also have noticed when I try streaming, webpages or speedtests the little LTE+ carrier aggregation kicks in to combine band 4 and 12 and I get pretty good speeds. See screenshot
My speeds do definitely vary on Tmobiles network. Isn't an issue for me, everything streams fine, also i haven't had an issue with VOLTE since I got the phone in February..
I noticed when I'm in a roaming area, instead of roaming now, I completely lose service. I believe this is because I manually selected TMobile 4G as my operator instead of auto, which would allow the phone to jump to AT&T. Any ideas?
So still having problems, but only when traveling. If I have network operator on "auto" it'll select AT&T roaming, but then it'll just stick then and never switch back to TMobile, even in full strength band 4 or 12 areas. I have to reboot, and toggle auto for it to grab a T-Mobile signal. Very irritating. This also kicks the phone off VoLTE, and I've yet to get it back. Not sure if this is TMobile or the phone's fault. Tried everything I can think of. Any ideas?

Excuse my ignorance, but what would a new SIM accomplish, technically speaking that is?
FYI, my wife's HTC 10 does the same thing. That would make two bad SIMs unlikely?

I've had same problem as yours, I went to T-Mobile store and told them what was going on. They switched my SIM card and problem fixed. I was told because my SIM was too old (4 years at least) that's why i was having such issue.

New SIM, no change
This phone has the features I want, and T-Mobile has the speeds I want, but this is frustrating to be kicked to roaming and no VoLTE....

Sorry to hear that it didn't work out for you. I attached couple of screenshots just to show you that it's been working good for me after I switched SIM card.
Edit: have you tried to create a new APN instead of using the default APN?
Edit 2: I can show you my APN if you want
Sorry, must have not been clear. I can get LTE, just not automatically after going into a roaming area. It just sticks on AT&T roaming until I manually go back in and select TMobile 4G. The problem with that is when I do need roaming to work, it won't because I have TMobile 4G manually selected.
Another problem is that I can't get VoLTE to stay very long, in fact i haven't had it for a couple days, despite me being in a very strong LTE area.
I appreciate your help
Edit: yes, if I could see your APN that'd be great!

Just create a new APN exactly as mine and see if it works
Hmm yeah that's the one I have too....
Btw, maybe I just needed to wait,, but VoLTE is working again, and it's reporting the correct IMEI (it wasn't before but TMobile told me that wasn't a big deal...I beg to differ because now my TMobile app is working whereas before it wasn't) Fingers crossed the new SIM did the trick! I'll know tomorrow when I commute to work and it starts roaming whether it'll reacquire T-Mobile and VoLTE
Quick update: I definitely have noticed an improvement in jumping off AT&T roaming back onto TMobile LTE. AND VoLTE is now sticking. But... I'm inclined to think it's something related to me not having my second Verizon SIM in. I have a company work number on a Verizon SIM that enables me to text and call from that number. Obviously data doesn't work but that doesn't bother me since I have TMobile unlimited on my personal SIM. When I insert my Verizon SIM in the second slot, my IMEI number changes in the testing menu, but not my settings info! What the heck? The IMEI number identifies the phone and shouldn't change...I thought? Very confused why part of my phone retains the correct IMEI and the testing changes. I instantly lose VoLTE and my TMobile app fails to authenticate.
What is going on???
UPDATE:
I popped my Verizon SIM in again (slot 1) and it's reporting the xx...15 IMEI (correct one on my T-Mobile account) and the T-Mobile SIM (slot 2) then drops to xx...07! I'm so confused! I thought the IMEI is NOT supposed to change because it identifies the device?? The ICCID is the SIM number? Why is Verizon SIM screwing this up?

Lost LTE on Verizon

Ok... I screwed up! There is a new Verizon tower near my house and I wanted to update my roaming, so I did the *228. Alas, by accident I chose option 1 (Program phone) instead of option 2 (Update roaming). Immediately after that I lost LTE. 3G is the best I now get.
I am running 7.1 latest update. Not rooted.
Suggestions on how to get LTE back up?
Thanks!

Try this:
*#*#4636#*#*
Phone Information
Change Preferred network type to LTE/WCDMA
If after cycling your connectivity it doesn't pop onto the Verizon 4G network, reboot your phone, you should be good then.
I dont know what it is about that setting that is different, because Verizon doesnt support WCDMA, however this seems to select the correct type of LTE connectivity and you'll be in that. Be aware though, this will likely prevent 3G from working if you enter an area without good 4G coverage.
I have tried all recommendations. LTE works for a while then it is back to 3G. On a further note, when this happens I cannot send a text message but a reboot will solve the text message issue.
I am at a loss. It seems there is no way to make the settings accessed by *#*#4636#*#* STICK.

It not just you. I have been frustrated for weeks. I thought it was only because I upgraded to 8.1 but your situation just answered that. I just ordered a new SIM from Verizon and wont run any programming once I install it. I contacted Essential on it as well as others. I hope the two can work this out.
Best option is a new some. *228 is usually no suggested on LTE unless you really know what you are doing. The PRL should be automatic on LTE.
get a new sim, your is borked now most likely
Will try new SIM tomorrow and let you know...
A VZW rep had me do *228 when I was having some issues with texting when I first got the phone. Fixed the texting issues but then I couldn't get LTE either. A new SIM fixed both issues I was having. *228 is apparently known to bork VZW LTE.
Had the same issues after using the *228 method I advise not using that at all been stuck on 3g since. Getting a new sim thursday hoping that helps (using straight talk Verizon Sim)
Here is a bit of information I have discovered. The phone is stable as long as I NEVER turn on WiFi! IF I have WiFi turned on (no connection to a network required) AND I enter a poor or non-existent service area, I loose service until I go back in with the *#*#4636#*#* and change settings back yet again!
anyone with a new sim got it working? Verizon shipped me one today and put it in. Avoided calling 228 but cannot get the sim to activate itself.
Got a SIM not provisioned error. I turned it off, took the SIM out and checked it, put it back, rebooted and still nothing. Not connecting to Verizon Network. Im afraid to call support because they will insist to call 228 to program it.
BTW the final version of 8.1 fixed all the Verizon weirdness I had going on. I popped it back in 'Global' in the Mobile Network settings (which is equivalent to 'LTE/CDMA/UMTS (PRL)' in the Phone Information section) and it hopped immediately on to Verizon, no kinda looking like sprint, no blank, no need to dial *228 for a new PRL it just worked. In fact on reboot it doesn't sit there with No Service scrolling across the screen for 15-20 seconds after boot, it shows up Verizon Wireless immediately.

Very frustrating for me. This is my only concern with this phone . Im still stuck in 3G after doing the upgrade, hard reset, and popping in a new SIM without dailing 228. I will change my Mobile Netwok settings to yours above.

May you should try reinserting your sim my phone self corrected once my update was done.
Here are my results:
Installed new SIM - same issue
Did a network data settings reset
Verizon did a flush and reinitialize of my account.
Still same result.
Don't know exactly how or why but about 10 mins later I noticed my phone was OFF.
I powered back up and MOST issues we're gone.
The final fix was to go into developer options and turn on "cellular data always active"
Working great on LTE+

Try putting it in "4G/LTE", wait for it to connect, then back to Global.
After I posted my above message, I did go mucking around in the settings and got it stuck in 3G (even after reboots, etc), then corrected it by doing this.
And quick clarification for the post above this one, it is "Mobile Data Always Active", mine was already on and I never modified it, so that must be the default.

How can i force the OnePlus 6T to an specific network?

Okay, so I am on Verizon and I purchased the OnePlus 6T straight from OnePlus website. I have the 8gb ram and 256gb storage model. I have unlocked the bootloader but haven't installed a custom recovery or rooted yet. Just wanted to unlocked bootloader since it requires a wipe of device storage in case for the future.
Anyways, the phone works amassing, battery life is great, I had a pixel XL before this, screen is fantastic and is plenty fast but I have ran into an issue. The phone was activated on Verizon using Sim 1. Signal is not an issue, always have LTE from Verizon and way better signal than pixel XL ever had.
My issue is I live in a border town with Mexico and I just noticed that when I am close to the border, like within a mile the phone switches to Movistar cell provider. Movistar is a Mexican cell phone provider. Is not that I lost signal because my pixel XL had signal all over there before and the OnePlus 6T is stronger, is just that apparently the Movistar provider has a stronger signal on that area and the phone is choosing to pick up the stronger signal, even if it means going off and switching to roaming.
It doesn't cost me any $$ and speed is wicked fast while roaming but Verizon will only allow 0.5gb of roaming per day which limits the usability of the phone. Anyways, thanks for reading my long post, just wanted to give some context to the question and hopefully find an answer. Like i said, I did search and didn't find anything. If I have to root to install an add-on or an app that lets me pick my signal please advise. Also I know that I still have a strong Verizon signal because I used ltediscovery app to check and it shows the signal strength of whatever many signal phone is picking up.
Thanks in advance for reading and for answers.
One option might be Network Signal Guru in the Play Store (requires root). It's the only app I've found that allows the user to lock the phone to a specific band - which might help with your situation.

Outstanding sir. Thanks for the information. I guess time to root then for me. Been waiting for a stable recovery for OnePlus 6T but I supposed no harm so far using current version of twrp, as far as I have read.
have you tried going to settings, internet, sim, sim1, network provider, disabling the automatic option and selecting your preferred provider manually? this way you will stick to that selection

Either I do not have that option or I couldn't follow the steps.
When I go to settings, wifi & internet, Sim, sim1 then I see what is on the attached screenshot.
it seems you are missing some options
it should look like this: network operator
try to search for operator or network on the main options screen at the search bar on top.
if still no luck than maybe there is something wrong with your sim card or apn settings. you should try to contact OnePlus support than.

Mine does have network operator anywhere.
I look through all the settings and nowhere to be found. I am on Verizon network and only sim1 has a card in it.
Sim2 is empty.
I can get to the special settings through *#*#4636#*#* and even there changing different LTE settings keeps reconnecting to roaming network since the tower is like a stone through away.
Any other options would be greatly appreciated. Also the app that was suggested in 2nd post, rooted phone to try it and that option if it works is behind pay part and that app fee is $50/m. A bit steep for me so looking for options still.
Thanks in advance

I could but I only have an option for disabling data roaming, not roaming all together. I tried it in the past and all it did was kept me connected to the roaming network and turned off the data off of the roaming network connection. Meaning I had zero data connectivity.
I wonder if putting a Sim in sim2 slot would open up more settings ?
If anyone is using 6T on Verizon could you please go to wifi & network, sim1 and see if you get any more options than what I posted on previous ss about 3 post ago.
Thanks in advance

I don't believe this is carrier locked since I bought straight from OnePlus website. Hell, I was even charge a currency conversion fee by my credit card cause the purchased was in foreign currency.

you should try another sim (family or friends) and check if the missing option appears. maybe try your sim in another phone too.
lastly you could try a full factory reset (deletes all data)
at the end if it still does not work you really should call OnePlus for help.
also I found this app here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pomo.android.networkoperators
open it and select "available networks"
that should open the missing menu to toggle operator selection...
