I dropped my 2 month old S8 yesterday and cracked the screen. Only the lower 25% of the digitizer works now, so I can't get into the secure folder. I would like to move the contents to an unsecured folder, so I can copy to a PC before sending it in to Samsung for the screen replacement. My secure folder is not backed up anywhere. Will Samsung wipe the phone while it's in for repair? Is there any way they can get into my secure folder? Am I screwed?
You can try connecting an external pointing device to your device in some way, if you manage to connect an external pointing device like a mouse, you can use the phone without the touch screen.

Interesting. Let me see if I can rig something up to work.
I was able to pair a Lenovo Bluetooth keyboard with a trackpoint and it worked perfectly. Thanks again! Going to suck to be without my S8 for 2 weeks!

Hi All,
Today my A500 decided to have a coffee bath and it really didn't go so well. The screen is completely dead but it does seem to be running in the background. When i plug in to my PC it connects and shows up as a device which is a good sign.
My issue is I need to get some important info off of the internal sd and although i can see the device it is not showing up as an external drive. Does anyone know of a way to force the tab to mount as an external drive or physicaly remove the internal storage?
Thanks in advance

Yeah, you cooked your digitizer.
Well, somewhere on XDA, there is an app that will act as a display on your pc. I know it is somewhere, but I really don't know what the name is. You're gonna have to do some searching. Via Google and XDA.
Also, you have probably USB, so you can use a mouse.

Now see, I never thought of using the HDMI. (shows you how much I use HDMI)
However, might not going to work well, if you have to move files to the PC. I wonder if you connect all of it, if it will still function.

thanks guys
I'll try the HDMI thing today and let you all know

So I tried the HDMI to the tv and no luck.
When I plug into the PC it pops up with the what do you want to do dialogue. If I say browse device it opens up windows explorer and says there is nothing on the device. Is there a way I can access the internal file system?

Not without having Root access.
Success
Hi All,
Just letting you know that I found a solution. After spending somewhere close to a billion hours trying to find a way to access the file system I came across a really cool program called Android Commander. It let me access everything on the internal memory and copy everything I needed to my PC. It's free and easy to use.

I've ran a backup in recovery mode and am trying to get the backup onto my laptop, in order to restore it to another phone.
The problem I'm having is that the phone is set to connect as a camera when connected via the USB cable, so iPhoto opens when I connect the phone. I actually need a file system browser to open, however the screen on the phone is cracked and it's no longer possible to navigate menu items using the screen, and so I can't change how the phone connects when plugged in via USB.
suggestions?
Cheers

This isn't going to help much (sorry )
but when I was trying to open the file explorer on my PC it wouldn't do it unless Debugging was turned off. And when it was turned on only the camera photo sharing option would work. So for me to get on my phones storage via PC, I had to turn debugging off. Idk if you have it on, but if that is the problem... hate to say it, but you're kinda ****ed. Hope someone will give u a useful answer :/
at least this comment will be a bump
I could be completely wrong though...
I have a stock LG G2 that has a cracked screen. I have a PIN set so I cannot log into the phone or do much else with it. Is there a way to recover the images and other data that I have on the phone?
I think so.
Use the usb-otg dongle along with a usb mouse to control your screen.
Turn on Wireless Storage and transfer your data over.
Hope that helps, others might have simpler solutions
Try the on screen phone app for your computer.. If your model supports it I believe you can access everything and conveniently copy files to your computer while it connected....
Sent from my Xposed G2

This works, I had the same problem with my touch screen not working because of a drop!!
Yep, OTG cable worked!
Hey all.
Earlier today I dropped my phone and the screen cracked. The screen is unresponsive, but the phone still works (the device is recognised by my laptop when I plug it with the USB cable, I am still receiving email/facebook/texts notifications, etc.).
Since it's going to be a while until I get it repaired, I'm looking for a way to access or import to my laptop the notes I had on Google Keep, as I need them for my work.
Is there any way I can access those notes using my laptop?
Thanks!

Already tried that, for some reason they weren't synced and I can't see any of them there...
Can I access them through any system files on my laptop?
Hello,
I have a Galaxy S4 i9505 which boots up normaly but the screen is not starting at all. It felt down to the floor, and the screen is not starting.
I can here all sounds during boot up and if I press the Main button, I can see that back and menu buttons get litghed. Also can receive calls, etc... so it works fine.
At this point, I am not sure if touch screen is also damaged or not...
1. My first attempt was to use Kies. It detects the phone perfectly but it says I have to change connection to MTP. No way to do it as I cannot see anything on the screen.
2. Second attemp. I have bougth a microusb HUB to connect a HDMI cable to my TV and also a mouse, but my tv is not detecting any signal in the HDMI port. (usb powered as well).
3. USB debugging is not activated in the phone, so I think I cannot retrieve any data by using ADB.
I could copy all pictures to my pc, as when I connect the phone to my laptop, it detects multimedia files and I could copy.
Contacts are not sync with Google but stored in the phone, so is there any way to get all contacts somehow?
I hope you can help me.
Thanks
Javier
Without replacing the screen, there's no way I know of to get the contact information off the device, given that you already tried casting the screen to your television.
