"Identify Mobile Platform" & "Amazon Metrics Service Application" draining battery
Hey guys, I have a Fire HD 8 7th Gen. and my girlfriend has a Fire HD 8 6th Gen. I followed the post on the-ebook-reader (can't post url's yet) to install Google Play on both of our devices.
The following is what is currently installed on both of our devices:
Google Account Manager 5.1-1743759
Google Services Framework 5.1-1743759
Google Play services 11.9.51 (230-177350961)
Google Play Store 8.5.36.W-all [0] [PR] 178322352
Besides having trouble with the Gmail and Inbox apps, everything was running smooth. Then I noticed the battery was depleting way too fast. I downloaded a couple battery manger apps and saw the following.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Identify Mobile Platform 55.84% battery usage
Amazon Metrics Service Application 38.07% battery usage
I checked my girlfriend's and it had the same problem. I've tried killing them and clearing cache/data but it didn't seem to help. I also installed Greenify to keep apps from running in the background. In 6-1/2 hours, the battery depleted about 70% on standby with no apps open.
Also, another problem is some apps that are downloaded through the Google Play store are not showing up in the "Home" tab where apps go. This is happening on both of our devices as well.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Nevermind on this. Just found the following from 10 days ago. This resolved the problem and all my apps are there now.

I learned more about this problem with the fire launcher. I think it may have to do with the fact that they changed its name? I went to settings, apps and games, All, Home Pages. That's the fire launcher. I cleared its cache and data and force stopped. I'm not sure if all of those were necessary. Now apps can be installed from either the play store or the Amazon app store, and they will show on the fire launcher home screen.

I'm newb so I don't have enough posts to reply others' thread. I saw some had the same issue so I'm posting here. Hope this can help...
same issue with this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29103318#post29103318
I had the same problem, not only with Gbooks & movies but also magazines app. I'm in Vietnam and I had my N7 purchased & hand-carried over from US. Here's the fix that works for me, hopefully it can help you out.
1. Root your N7.
2. Install ROM Toolbox lite from play store.
3. Open it after installation, go to App manager > All apps. Scroll down and you will see Books/ magazines/ movies there but they are all grey'd out. (Which might explain why it shows 'app already installed' and we can not locate them without rooting - just my guess - I'm a noob hehe).

I wasn't able to launch them from here either. So next step:
4. Uninstall them.
5. Go to Play store and reinstall them back. You will be able to see and launch them from the home screen this time. Apps & contents of Play store are regionally available so if you don't see these 3 apps, you need to connect via a VPN that is US based. Try to look for some VPN app in the store. I use DroidVPN. Not so happy with it coz the connection is not so stable but at least it gets the job done.
My home screen here for example. After installation:
Lastly, as mentioned above, play store contents are limited by regions so even if we successfully install & launch these apps, we still need VPN connection to get books, magazines, movies & TV shows. And VPN is slow so I give up movies & TV, I just download books to read offline. Good enough for me though.
Good write up Sir ! Thanks for the info ....
Can I ask, when your music widget updates ,does your nexus lag? Assuming you're not using Google music, let's say you play a new song and it appears on your my library widget, does your home screen start lagging?

Well I haven't noticed that. So far I'm happy with the tablet's performance. Let me try it and I'll let you know later.
I see that this services are always running, what is bad for my battery life. I wanna know if is possible to stop it. I dont use location, for example and as you can see there are location service running.
Thanks for any help.
Pd: can not use greenify, since the rom use art by default.

If you have rooted device then use TitaniumBackup app to uninstall the google default apps to stop unwanted services
I have also done that with my Galaxy Y Duo as its RAM is just 290 MB and cannot afford google service framework and its services.
Let me know if this work for you....

Try disabling Android Device Manager from google settings app. Also from google settings app go to location and turn off location reporting and location history. Make sure that location is set on battery saving mode. It is not recommended to freeze or uninstall play/google services as it may cause problems with device (many of stock apps like google play, gmail, etc. are dependent on them).

Suddenly, Battery usage screen becomes as in the picture...
It seems that ONLY Google Services are using battery!
In parallel, I'm experiencing an heavy battery drain: it lasts only 6 or 7 hours while before upgrading to MM it lasts more or less 23 hours.
In addition, if I modify "Privacy" settings as in the past I cannot use phone because Google Services claims to use PhoneCall!!!
Do you have some suggestion(s)?
Thanks in advance for your precious help,
M.
I had the same problem some days ago. Even after a full wipe, after some hours returned.
I solved it a week uninstalling Google Play Services and flashing OpenGapps from recovery. Now it seems all right.

Really? I have the same issue same like you, and I do like I said before, and solved,, have you do a factory reset?
you should try the following:
1) greenify play services (you need donation package)
2) use better battery stats to see what is the problem
3) use disable service from playstore to disable all the useless part of the play services (google for "disableservice play services" and you'll get a list)
4) change kernel ( i recommend boeffla)
p.s. can i know the theme of your phone? looks beautiful
My apologies for delay but it was a busy day...
Suddenly, all statistics come back again!
And I'm not really happy with that because it could means that there is something wrong in this ROM
About theme: it is Deep Darkness by Moelle.
From my research it seems to be similar to the ownice c300. It is running android 4.4.4. It lists having a quad core processor, but cpu-z shows it as having a Cortex A7 1ghz running on two cores. It says two cores are turned off.
Is there anyway to update this, change the launcher to a joying or malaysk style launcher? I cant figure out how to remove apps once added to the home screen, and I cant remove the big widget. It is also difficult to go into settings menus as the language changes to chinese. I cant figure out how to get to recovery either.It is pretty quick. It boots very fast. most apps except for google play music work pretty well.
I can't find much information about the mcu or how to update it.

I can't remove this widget or any app icons on other pages. I also cant change the clock to am/pm format when showing digital instead of analog.
i have the exact same unit,been wandering around to get custom rom since mine can't seem to run google services..
which means not on playstore buat youtube app cant run as well..
is yours only cant play google music or all google apps as well?
Other google apps work well. It seems to only be Google Play music that crashes. Youtube and Maps are working great.
Pandora, Iheart music, the play store, everything else seems to work alright. It also boots pretty quickly.

Today was the first day in the one week I've had my oneplus 6t that I've had high google play services battery drain. It is at 11%
Has anyone experienced this, and what could have caused this?
My battery life wasn't that good today
Yes, same here today only, never noticed before. I kept wondering if I installed some app or may be some beta app sign up.

Could be one of these several updates from Google too, may be Google app? I am beta too.
Getting it here too, 20% when other apps are like 2-3%s. It must be a service issue then.
+1. Not as high as you guys but it definitely higher than normal.

This happens with all phones, even the Pixels. Update all your apps then clear the google services data. Reboot and usage should be about normal now.
Are you sure? That would reset all accounts and other info.
I tried Files by Google to clean up system files and that seems to clear it for now.

I remember reading something about this last week. I have the newest app don't see any issues...yet.
This has started happening to me now, first couple of days it was fine then it kicked in. The battery stats say it's running when in active use for 2hrs 2 mins but my screen on time is only 1hr 50 so I'd don't really understand that?
I had high Google Play Services drain too (about 12%). Turning off wifi and bluetooth scanning in Settings -> Google -> Location -> Scanning. Also disabled "Improved Location" under Google Location Accuracy in that same Location page. It brought my standby drain from 2% an hour to 0.5%. Google Maps is still fast as ever at locking my location.
