Ok, I had no other place to put this post, but figured this was the best for right now. I was unable to achieve root with the HD 7 method, so I went searching. I am happy to report success!
All thanks go to Bin4ry, as I did nothing to contribute to this method, only tried his auto root program.
The files and steps are located here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
Follow the steps for the Sony tablet. This is achieved using the 2nd option.
Video for steps are here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33470626#post33470626
Again follow all the steps in the video for the tablet, which is the second item rooted.
I also tried the 7 root method and it did not work. Thanks for this, it worked. It was a little tricky and some of the commands didn't appear to be working but in the end I have superuser installed. So far so good...
Maybe someone can shed some light on exactly what this method is doing and verify it is safe.
Thanks, just got an 8.9 myself. Going to try your root method tomorrow
No go here. Can't get adb to recognize the device, and I don't know where to find the device ID for fixing the ADB_USB file in .android directory
After rooting using this method and installing go launcher and es file explorer. I found a few odd applications that are installed. I'm trying to figure out if these were already on the device or if they were installed by this root method.
WanPeek
AT&T AllAccess
Are these one your device?
Update: looks like the AT&T apk is indeed a Kindle app. I'll assume WanPeek was also already here.

Yes, they were already on all three I rooted. My guess is they are there to support the AT&T 4G version of the 8.9.
Thanks for the confirmation

I can confirm as well that this method works. As the post said before it appears the process is not working, but sure enough when it finished there was superuser apk and su access. Thanks for being the guinea pig mdblaze, good find!

I can confirm this works as well, and also that Kindle Fire HD 7 method for installing Play Store works as well too (did not auto-update with old vending.apk, but works just as fine with actual Google Play APK) Hands-down the 8.9 flies faster than the 7!
It worked! Thanks OP!
Anything we can do about apps that don't work? ie google maps, tasks apps, google currents, etc?
Are you guys using a different launcher now, like ADW launcher or NovaLauncher?
Not working for me either. Seems like it can't detect my tablet (have ADB mode enabled). Did ya'll have to install some drivers? I Googled some Fire HD 7.0 ADB drivers, but those wouldn't install for me.
If someone can provide a bit more details, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

If I run "adb devices" from the Android SDK, it shows the Kindle Fire.
However if I run "adb devices" from the batch file link above, it never finds it.
---------- Post added at 11:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:41 PM ----------
Well I had to install the Android SDK. Then copy the Platform-Tools folder into this script's "\stuff" folder.
Now ADB finds my Kindle Fire HD.
I tried option 1, it seemed to complete fine, but no Super User in apps. So I tried option 2, again no Super User. Which method are people using with success?

I believe so but I do not fully remember. I do know I was getting errors but just kept pushing on. It even mentions you will get errors in the video. I do remember getting errors on the last two commands thinking something was wrong but he also gets the same error in the video.
Start watching the video at about the 7 minute mark. That is when he roots a tablet.

I decided to just a factory restore and start over.
Unfortunately it's still not working. No Super User, no root access. No idea why this isn't working for me.
---------- Post added at 12:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:25 AM ----------
Have no clue what I was doing wrong or what went wrong the half a dozen previous tries. But now Super SU is installed and root access is confirmed.
Got Google apps installed, but can't sign in with YouTube though. It crashes when trying to sign in.
Edit: Got the YouTube issue resolved as well. Was missing the GoogleLoginService.apk. It's all finally coming together nicely.
Is this surviving reboot? Also has anyone attempted to do a factory reset to see if it clears it? I've had this thing 3 days I really want Google Play on it so I can access my apps but don't really want to nuke the warranty just yet. :/

Yes it does work, but no a factory reset will not clear it. If you what to get rid of root you have to move superuser.apk from /system/app folder,to /data/app folder, install it in that location. Then delete the su binary from /system/xbin/. After all that the factory reset will restore to original.
Somethings I ran into that may help other people.
If you do all the steps and still can't see the kindle in ADB run a driver update on the kindle, ADB showed up for me after that.
After the kindle rebooted it was not seeing the device as being back up after a 2 minute wait. I unpluged and reconnected the USB cable and this correct it.
Has anyone gotten to install this? I'm on CM10.2 and didn't try installing the appstore when I was stock. It doesn't finish installing, I've ticked the "install from unkown sources" box as well.
I didn't know whether to put this ? in App or General...
I have it installed on PA.
I have it installed on rooted stock rom. No issues so far. Even installed a few of my apps that I have only through their store.
I installed it on my stock/rooted Nexus 7. No issues with it.
have most apps been updated to support 4.3?

Because I had bought so many apps on Amazon App Store and didn't want to double pay getting them from Google Play, I decided to download the app store. The way I did was I went to the amazon app store and on the right clicked getting started. (Sorry, I can't link yet). Right on this page, you will see instructions for downloading appstore on a android device. Here are the exact steps I followed...
I went into settings and checked "allow installation of 3rd party apps"
Then I opened google chrome and found the page (just google amazon appstore for android, it should be one of the top links and on the right hand side of that page, it says "getting started")
Then you just click the link under step 2, download, pull down notifications and install.
I at first had problems with the QR code not initiating the download, but just using the link off of the amazon website i was able to download right onto the tablet versus sideloading it on.
I hope this helps!

I'm not sure about generally, but after installing Amazon App Store on my Nexus, I have yet to come across any compatibility issues on my 50ish apps. Sorry I don't no anything more specific but I wasn't sure if this would be helpful.
Don't know if you guys have seen this yet, but Xposed for Marshmallow is here!!!!!!!! Checkout the Xposed subforum for downloads, general discussion, etc. So far these modules are working on my Nexus 6 running stock rooted MRA58R:
Force Immersive Mode
Amplify
Greenify Experimental Features
YouTube AdAway
Xposed GEL Settings
Snapchat Full Caption
Not working (causes bootloop):
Snapperfs
NOTE: You MUST use Xposed Installer v3 alpha 4 provided by Rovo89! The material design Xposed Installer does not work. I got the following error and could not activate any modules: "This module is forward locked. Contact the developer." After uninstalling the material design version and replacing it with v3 alpha 4 I was able to activate and use my favorite modules without issues.
UPDATE: material design Xposed Installer now works with v78!
How did you install it on a Nexus 6? Every time I try to flash from TWRP I get an error.

Also, I am positive your phone doesn't just say "An Error", read the error, it tells you what went wrong. If you don't understand it, ask us... but we need to know what it says.
Make sure its version 77, and the -arm file
-armx86 is for 64 bit chips running in x86 mode iirc, and obviously -arm64 is for 64 bit chips. Nexus just uses the standard -arm

What does the error say? Which version are you installing? Try a fresh download of v77-arm (NOT arm64). Your download might be corrupted.
I installed v77 and v3 alpha 4. It says that Xposed is active but when I go to modules it says "No modules available." I even changed to "Experimental" in settings. No luck!

Mine did that too. Said no free space. I checked system and there's 16megs free on mine. Dunno for now ...might have to play with this some more tomorrow.
Edit...that was the problem. I used es file explorer to browse to system/app and delete the Korean ime and Hindi ime apps and that alone freed enough space for a successful flash.

First off: Great $hit Man. Been looking for a better looking, remote friendly version of Android TV. Question: Does Google assistant work? Youre on to something people will want.

Awesome, love this version of PHOS. I would like to see, and help if need be, further development on this one. So just want to put this out there.. after installing an OTA update popped up and I figure there was no harm in trying it. The update installed "LaunchWork" app that was trying to show some ads but could not or would not connect to it's server so I simply used the included system app uninstaller to remove it and now I don't have to bother exiting out of an empty window every time I open an app.

I wish I was skilled enough to make this rom more stable.
I only know how to convert regular Android into Android TV with some simple modifications!
Maybe someone can take a look at it to see if we can make it more stable. An more like a Android tv
Yeah I don't really know much about how to go about stabilizing ROMS, and have a little experience unsuccessfully porting TWRP to a couple phones. Been wondering how i would go about getting the native settings working, or possibly replacing the settings apk with native settings apk, but idk if it works like that or if there is more to getting things working.
---------- Post added at 12:15 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:05 AM ----------
One thing I can say is that after doing the OTA from Phoenix when I first installed, I have not had the package installer crash. I do get some modded apps crashing every now and again, but I just assume that is from the modifications. Just got a little more background I installed PHTV onto a 32 GB flash drive with 350mb EFI partition, the rest I formatted to NTFS and gave it a 20 GB data partition so I could have a little room on the drive to store some stuff from from Windows or otg from my phone if need be.

Usually that is an erorr with incomplete download or that the app is incompatible with the current SDK version of Android. Also if I'm thinking correctly shouldn't the app and app data be two files, apk and obb. Try changing file extension to zip and open with your favorite file manager app

Huh, wha?? Magisk and Xposed are completely different things. As for being "outdated" that is only relevant on higher Android builds than this device (9th gen Fire 7) is currently capable of running.

To install and run TWRP
Can you remove the back cover of new Fire 7 2019, find the CLK pin to connect the CLK to ground connection to short and connect your device to your PC
You have a MediaTek CLK exploit chain file for Fire 7 9th Gen like a file amonet.zip
Your PC running Linux Debian or Ubuntu as a virtual machine like Oracle VirtualBox or dual-boot
Your Fire tablet have a TWRP

Have you personally tried this procedure on the device type in question? Me thinks not. Probably best not to give out such guidance until proven.

One, this is a play store thread for fire7 mustang.
Two, there is no unlocking method currently
Three, root is not needed for play store.
Do you even own one of these devices?
Login Loop
This is my first ever fire and I was disappointed with the Amazon store's lack of variety. So I found this post hoping to use the Play Store.
I installed the 4 apk's in order, and was able to login to the play store. I installed several apps and all seemed to be working fine.
2 or 3 days later I received a notification to update Play Services. When I clicked on it to update, It brought me to a google play login screen, I logged in, and it looped back to the login screen again. At this point I cannot log into play store.
Any ideas on how to solve this problem? Thanks for your help.
New fire 7 9th generation, with os v6.3.1.2.

Seems like i had this issue at one time also. I found that if I had a SD card as adaptive storage it would try to install on it and cause my issue. I think it was that or by default it was installing to my SD card on updates. I can't remember if i had to do a factory reset or uninstall the (4) Apks and start over to get it to work again. But i guess this is only relevant if you have a SD card? I remember finding the in settings>applications i found that all the play data was being put on the SD card.

Yup, Play is installed on external storage, I'll fix that and re-install and see if that helps. Thank You!
Tried to move apps to internal memory, didn't wok, reinstalled play store, still didn't work. I had to reset the device and start from scratch-this time making the SD card as removsble storage, reinstalled play store and all seems to be working well.
Seems that Google play needs the ad card formatted for removable storage lkme Michajin suggested. Thanks for the help.
too far along using this Fire 7 for SD sol'n
I am too far along in use of this Fire 7 now ... while G Play Store was working, too many app's in place and used on SD to do a reset !
Keep Note also has failed.
Only other fail was Fr dict <<Le Petit Robert>> app
I justed flashed Open Gapps for Android 7.1.2. I believe I used the Mini package (it was a little while ago). Haven't had any issues.

This is out-dated.... This was posted before unlock was possible, i don't think we even had root yet... You couldn't Flash then. This still might work for those who buy a new one and don't unlock and root...

I'm having this same issue, but it's only happening on one tablet out of four. And it appears to only happen after a system software update.
I do have an SD card added as mounted storage, instead of portable.
For now, the only way I've found to fix the issue for a while is a factory reset.

The only way I could solve it was making the storage portable.
