I was interested in the essential phone when announced but seems we are no nearer to it being officially available in the UK. There are some American versions appearing on eBay now so was wondering if anyone from UK has one and if there are any issues, specifically using an unlocked model on EE.
Any issues with signal strength, sending/recieving MMS etc......
Would updates come through as normal OTA or is it a bit of a faff to update?
No issues here using it on EE have LTE+ which is basically 4G on steroids. Have we WiFi calling and received OTA updates .
Haven't rooted or installed Oreo bets ,still on 7.1.1
Sports apps like sky go and BT sport work fine ,no Geo locking etc .

Thanks for that, Im not really interested in rooting these days but i would like the vanilla android that my nexus 6p had and to know that OTA updates will still happen. Good to hear you're not having issues. Ill have a think about taking the plunge on one from ebay or amazon.
Post Xmas sales on amazon.com may be your best bet price wise. All e bay ones I have seen were around £550. I paid £388 on cyber Monday deal from amazon.com including 360 camera and import duty

Any UK users getting excessive battery drain on mobile data on.I get 6/7 SOT over WiFi .Only really used it on mobile data over last few days ,getting LTE+ but just getting around 3 hrs SOT,I'm on EE 4G max plan ,what's are the optimal network settings ?
Could it be LTE+ is draining it instead of showing as being on 4G
Thanks for any help

I'm using on 3uk no issues with battery drain, naturally less than WiFi but nothing major

You can if it's directly from Amazon. You'll find you can at checkout. It's where I got mine from and I remember being told the same thing.
Seems that new ones can be shipped but warehouse deals not, just get an error when you try and checkout.
Got mine here in the UK from Amazon .com,ignore the can not be shipped warning it can at checkout

Yeah got mine from Amazon.com. Warehouse deals will not ship to UK for some reason, but you can buy the non discounted version fulfilled by Amazon. Loving the phone so far, just adding the google camera, but will avoid the Oreo beta for now while I test the phone with the apps I use.
Just ordered mine a day or so ago, just shipped there now (paid the most expensive postage and the postage says UPS worldwide saver???) what's peoples opinions on cases? I really want to go without one and just use the Dbrand skin I have and the tempered glass too.

Howdy,
I've finally aligned the stars and am ready to by the international note. Before I buy, I'd like to know how everyone feels about buying through Expanys USA vs. Amazon. I've used both companies before so I am very comfortable buying phones from them.
I just want to make sure that I get the version that has been updating the fastest. Not talking about ODIN, but software update to come to phone.
What versions are they selling - German, Hong Kong, etc?
Thanks!
You can probably get it for a bit cheaper off Amazon. If you're buying via Expansys make sure you look up for some discount vouchers. I bought my white international Galaxy Note from Expansys just 2 weeks ago and wow, next day shipping was AMAZING!
I got mine from expansys its German.

Amazon price has dropped significantly. Bought mine there. Came with KK2.

At this point just get it for the cheapest. If you choose amazon, make sure to check out the seller feedback. I personally went with expansys when it was first released.
Unless its under a certain price, i rather spend the extra for smooth transaction. Amazon is to much like ebay.
just wanted to vouch for global mobiles on amazon..i bought by note from them about 2 weeks ago ($30 more expensive then..=(), and they were fantastic. perfect condition German model, packed well, very attentive to detail.
also had 1-day shipping for 3.99 on prime..and it arrived less than 24 hours later!! =O
i just got mine last week from amazon...with 2 day shipping....super awesome service....my experience with amazon has been very excellent...no complaints so far.....i would suggest amazon

From a hardware standpoint, each version is exactly the same. The only real difference is the pre-loaded software/firmware. If you're planning to update via Kies, then it's probably best to flash a Euro firmware and take it from there. I know you mentioned that you don't want to deal with Odin, but honestly it's the best firmware solution for Samsung devices. It's really not that difficult either honestly.
Amazon, even if you have to pay taxes.
Amazon shopping
Got mine from Amazon. $608.99 sold by TRD Trading GMBH white unlocked. Ordered Thursday March 30 Amazon Prime plus $3.99 shipping upgrade I got it Friday. Came in Samsung sealed box. Shipper included a US plug adapter to work with the international Samsung charge adapter and a couple of printed notes for how to change the language at startup from German to English and to setup the APN to AT&T. Had to look in here though to get MMS working.
All in all I'm extremely happy and finally enjoying my Note this weekend.
I got mine in November thru Amazon and TechnoTradingHouse.
Excellent experience with them. Mine was slightly delayed (5 days) and they bent over backwards to keep me posted as the delay was out of their control (customs).

Thanks for the recommendation! I think I am going to go with Amazon due to nostock fees. I remember when I used Exp in the past, they tacked on a nice nostock fee with my return. Although, in the end they are excellent too

Wow. I'm soo sorry to hear of your bad experience. I guess this reinforces my first instinct to go with Amazon. I swear you can buy everything including your spouse on Amazon
There are so many sellers out there selling Note from different countries. Is the one from German is the best one?
I heard it's better to get the one from UK since:
a). They have good customer service and ACCEPT service request from out of UK
b). All the manuals are in English
So which country should I get the Note from? UK, Germany? ROM I can deal with, defective hardware.. well.. if it's not covered by Samsung in the origin country, I just lost $600!!
PS: Global Mobile in Amazon sells their Note from Germany

Sounds like user error to me. They only replace up to 30 days. Never had a issue with them. They actually contacted me to give me a full refund so I can take part of a 100 off promotion they did shortly after my purchase. You kept a sgs2 with a blemish longer then 2sec. Sounds like your fault.
Cant go wrong with expansys. Mine included overnight shipping for free on both devices.
Amazon is much better than Expanys anytime
I got mine from Amazon cos its cheaper
What are your guys thoughts in term of WARRANTY? I spoke with one of most popular seller in Amazon and they said the Note they're selling are Germany version and comes with 2 years warranty.
For warranty work, their approach is:
1). Send the phone back to THEM
2). They'll prep the phone to send it back to Samsung in <insert country here>
So the turnaround time could be in many weeks. I.e. ship to reseller --> reseller ship to Samsung outside of US --> Samsung fixed the phone --> Samsung ship to reseller --> reseller ship to customer.
Hey. Got the 3G version from AMAZON GERMANYas it was not available in the Uk yet. / replaced my phone with it and its been great. If you guys have any questions let me know!

To be perfectly honest, it takes some getting used to. it feels a bit funny - holding it to the head as a phone and especially placing the earpiece on the earr with a BT headset its been great!
I use it when I need a big screen. I still carry my Note II as my main as I'm a heavy user. I download torrents of videos directly with my phone. The Note 8 can give me only up to 7.5 hours of normal screen usage per charge. This is during a 12 to 16 hour stretch for the day.
Note 8 works fine as a communications device under regular usage.

It looks as if my Note 8.0 3G+WiFi Int'l N5100 should be shipped very soon from Negri Electronics here in the U.S.
My credit card company sends me email alerts every time there is a transaction over $300, and they just sent me a Transaction Alert for a charge from N.E. I have a preorder in for the Int'l Note 8.0 and IME, they only charge your credit card when they have stock in hand, so my fingers are crossed.
UPDATE on my purchase from Negri Electronics in the U.S.:
I received an email from Negri Electronics today with a FedEx Tracking Number for the Galaxy Note 8.0 3G+WiFi (GT-N5100).
However, it is being shipped directly from Hong Kong and not from the N.E. location in Las Vegas, so it will take a few more days to get here than I originally expected (Los Angeles area).
Other devices that I have purchased from them have shipped from the L.V. location so I didn't expect this when I placed my preorder. If I had known ahead of time, I might have ordered one from eBay seller 'never-msrp' in Houston, TX.
Either way I'm looking forward to getting it. I just wanted to let anyone else who has preordered from Negri, or is thinking about it, know what's up.

It's strange, since HongKong only sell GALAXY Note 8.0 LTE (N5120) which is still unavailable now.
After you received your N5100, could you check it "Made in Korea" or "Made in Vietnam" ?

Does it matter? Most probably it'll be the same as my unit in the Philippines - Made in Vietnam by Samsung" it says at the back in small print.
Is there a huge difference between the quality if the Note device is made in China or Vietnam? Is like everyone going nuts over Nokia units made in Finland over China in the height of its sales before.

I received my GT-N5100 (3G+Phone) on Tuesday afternoon May 14th. The 1st FedEx scan was Monday 5/13/2013 at 12:26 pm in Kowloon (HK Time), so very fast FREE shipping. They also included a free power plug adapter for the charger.
The back of my device says, "Made in Korea by Samsung".
So far I'm loving it. However, I was/am slightly disappointed because the back cover on my unit is also not seated or attached perfectly on the side between the microSD and micro-SIM card slots (perfectly centered along the side)...and this was right out of the sealed box. It's just the slightest bit of play/looseness/flex, but it's definitely noticeable, and disappointing.
I would be shocked if I received an Apple or HTC device like this, but unfortunately, it seems to be par for the course with Samsung. I'll always have some type of protective case on it, so I'm not terrible concerned, but Yeah, jus' sayin', Samsung, you need to step up your (build quality) game, or at least QC before these leave the factory.

Oppo Find 5 White 16Go (international version) price drops to 299€.
Oppo Find 5 Midnight 32Go (international version) price drops to 349€.
Oppo R819 Black or White 16go price drops to 249€.
EDIT:
Free shipping across the EU...
OR NOT!!! (Read the thread)
Apparently, some of their packages are now sent directly from Hong-Kong...
Which is plain stupid, since there's at least 50% chances that your local customs will hold the package and ask you for extra fees including the VAT.
This, of course, is a normal process when buying from outside the EU. Whenever I order something from Japan or China, I already know that I'll have to pay the customs fees upon receiving my package.
However, Oppostyle claims all around their website that they "ship from the EU" (and this was actually true when I ordered my Find 5 from them a few months ago).
If now they start to randomly deliver orders directly from Hong Kong, they are supposed to inform you before you place your order!
So, watch it if you still wanna buy anything from them.

I wouldn't be so sure about that, I've ordered mine on thursday midnight and the Find 5 was shipped from HONG KONG 4 days later. It got stopped at Croatian customs (where I am from). Asking for the amount I payed, full details of the phone, where it was ordered from, some EORI code I had to activate. After this they would charge me VAT (25%) + custom fees. Too much hassle, canceled my order. "Shipping from EU" was one of the biggest reasons I ordered from OppoStyle, and now this happens. They even tried to declare the package is worth 155 USD, but customs are customs.
Not sure where you placed your order, but oppostyle Europe doesn't ship anything from Hong Kong. They ship from the U.k. Hence the free shipping and no custom taxes whatsoever...

I ordered from europe.oppostyle.com. I contacted the support and they said they would refund me the money that I need to pay the customs but only after I pay it. I don't have the money (25% of the price + more). But it wouldn't have come to this if they only shipped it from UK like stated in their TOS and rest of website. I don't know why they choose to mail it from Hong Kong, but it costed them one customer.

Do you think Oneplus One will be jacked up in price as they do with all other devices to the point that the price is no longer an advantage? I think Oneplus One will probably cost more than Nexus devices in Australia due to additional GST and demand.
They'll Jack it up, for whatever reason Lol

IMO, it's pretty good.. Previously using iPhone 5.. Went to school with 100% came home with about 60%.. and that's just a two hour lecture.. with about 1 hour bus ride in total.. But now with the OPO, its go with 100% come home with about 80%.. Camera wise, it's fine for me but I don't have a really high requirement considering it's a phone

Personally, I'm getting mine sent to one of my dev friends in America. But you can use a mail forwarding company like Shipito to get it here. I ordered mine (64gb) yesterday, and it ended up costing me $400AUD including standard shipping to the States. The price is a bit inflated due to PayPal's ridiculous conversation rate, which was $0.90 instead of the $0.93 it should have been. On top of that I still need to get it shipped from Illinois to Melbourne, so all up I'm probably looking at anywhere between $430 to $450 I think.
Anyways, hi guys, ours nice to see an Australian thread here.

@gerardo66 - not sure what the problem is for you there. The only physical difference is the Chinese one doesn't have CyanogenMod stamped on the back.
The 4G band difference doesn't matter over here, because the 700MHz band in the international version doesn't work here anyway.

I have not seen this thread yet so I have been calculating how long it was for the nexus 6 to appear on the Hong Kong play store. It seems that Nexus 9 is out on the Hong Kong Play Store. Only grey color and only in Wifi so far. Also only delivers in 3 weeks. HKD 3088 for the 16gb and HKD3688 for the 32gb. Anyone already ordered one?
Personally I am thinking of waiting for the gold one, also for the keyboard to come out. Although Google has not always been that great with accessories and their availability.
Keyboard is ridiculous price! Cheaper alternative for me!
Can't believe it's so cheap in HK!
Man, tempted to go to HK for a holiday now and buy a Nexus 9. My gf would love to go back sometime. We lived there for a year 2012/2013. Plus UK plug heads etc.
The prices at different regions depend on the tax (at least part of the price). If I remember correctly the tax price of tech product in HK is not that high comparining to Europe.
PS. I also ordered mine from HK play store

The term "cheap" should depends on the average income for people in that region
So, up until yesterday, the Play store was showing shipping as 2-3 weeks. This has now been updated as showing "Leaves warehouse by November 5".
Also, should add, no sales tax in HK, which is sometimes why things are a bit cheaper here sometimes (but we do have lots of unofficial hidden taxes which sometimes result in things being more expensive here compared to other parts of the world).
I have not been able to see the white one, must be different for everyone. I think you can RMA with google play store in case of QA problems. It is tempting to be one of the first to use the Nexus 9 tho.
i am heading to HK on holiday on Nov 14, any kind friends from HK can advise me when is the rough date to order the nexus 9 so it can reach my hotel say between 16-18 nov? Also, is there any post office or service address where i can have it ship to so i can self collect while they safe keep for me? i would prefer the latter though. thanks!
Also, would you ahve any idea of trusted and reputable retail shops in HK to purchase the nexus 9?

The official claim from Google is 2-5 business day for delivery after the product has left the warehouse and the warehouse for Hong Kong market is located in Singapore.
Most of the big stores in Hong Kong are trustworthy, but you can expect they might sell it a little bit higher than Play store
