Which one should i ask Mrs.Claus for? - Wear OS Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello one and all, I'll get to the point. My wife wants to buy me a android watch but knows I've been beating my head against the wall trying to pick one for months. So I'm here today to ask for your help! FYI, I have the Sony Xz Premium and yes I do plan on rooting it.
I know there are many different types that do different things but my main focus is really three things.
1. A full Round face
2. Popular with the community (rooting, support, ect)
3. Something under $200.usd
I throw myself at the mercy of XDA.

I currently have the Huawei Watch 2 Classic and love it. Currently on sale for 219$ on Amazon and Best buy Price matches.

You should also consider getting that support AW 2.0 and Oreo as well

Wife has got me a Misfit Vapor for Christmas. £184 (UK) but have seen that Amazon have knocked $60 of it in the US. Hope this is not a sign Misfit are abandoning it 2 months after its release?
Not interested in the fitness tracking (Seen that Misfits App is a major power drain). But seems a good starter watch. Scheduled for Oreo and looks not too bad by the pictures and reviews.

Sagging sales...really?

http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2013/11/21/lg-release-g-pad-tablet-more-overseas-markets.html
Gee, I wonder why sales are below expected in the US? Could it be Best Buy's epic failure at promoting the product? The people at BB should be running the NSA; they're better at keeping secrets.
Maybe LG should just rename it the Area 51 Pad...lots of people have heard of it but BB continues to deny it's existence.
No kidding! The Best Buy help weren't aware of it and took forever to find it in "the cage".
LG has officially jumped the shark.
I don't know who is to blame LG or Best Buy or both but it does make you scratch you head in wonder how they plan to sell this tablet based on current marketing an store display. Why give Best Buy an exclusive if they don't plan to display it and sell it? They need to get this in more stores out on display. They also need to drop 30-50 off the price here in the states if they want it to sell it needs to be cheaper than the first iPad mini and the Samsung Tab 3 8 regardless of the specs and it being a better product most Americans don't know specs they know brand name and price.
Ya, BB has this thing in their phone department next to the G2. Like what?
They need this over with the other tablets, let alone the other 8" tablets. Luckily I knew where to look so i can get a hands on before deciding on a purchase online
The two BB near me do not even have it out in the phone area they have a picture of it in the G2 display but not the actual device.
It does feel like that what is otherwise a fantastic tablet will again fail to sell properly. Just like the Samsung 7.7 did in its time. You have to wonder...
BB has no interest in promoting specific products. If the G Pad fails, it makes no difference to them. They are just as happy selling an iPad or a Samsung Note. LG is the one who loses when this product is a flop. It's up to LG to make sure that retailers sell the product. If they made the product attractive to BB, then BB would sell it. The real problem is that LG has not advertised the product, they've priced it too high, and they haven't provided the right incentives to retailers.
A retailer isn't going to give shelf space or attention to a product that is as poorly marketed as the G Pad. If a lot of people were coming into the store asking for it, BB would pay more attention. It's LG who's keeping the product a secret. BB is just following their lead.
And why are BB and Newegg the only authorized dealers?? Why isn't Amazon, Target, Costco, Sam's Club and Walmart selling this? Where are the magazine and TV ads? The billboards? The point of sale kiosks, etc? LG seems to have no serious interest in this product. Any product that was as poorly marketed as this one would fail in the market.
At least my local Best Buy has a white one up for display *in the phone section* away from all the other tablets and readers.

I got mine on release date. They didn't have any on display and only one left in stock (other than the one that the guy tried to sell me the display unit and then noticed the computer said it was $1000 for it).
I visited my local Best Buy last night and they still don't have it on display (in tablet or phone area) or in stock. I really don't understand why LG has dropped the ball on this but it seems to be in line with about every other mobile company minus Apple and Samsung. Every display other than the Apple and Samsung displays looked cheap and run down. The Nexus 7 display looked fine, but they have a demo running on all of their models so you can't even get a real feel for how it works. If LG would put a nice display in the tablet area, these things would sell fast. I just hope enough sell to have a decent development community.
LG must not. want to be successful. they had it on display only at. best buy with the mobile phones. No advertising, ovepriced and lackluster support.
Whose poor ideas were this? only. 1 retailer in the US?

Apparently, US sucks *JOKE*
Here in Europe you can get your G Pad in 95% of all the electronics shops. Its really strange what's going on in the US...
I don't know how well the tablet is selling worldwide but at the biggest electronics store here in Zurich, I think it's doing quite well with the Black version sold out and only a few white versions left. Of course, this could be due to low stock to begin with, I'm not sure. I really hope it does well because I just got mine and it's probably one of the best electronic gadgets I have ever bought.
I'm no stranger to Android (although I haven't spent a great deal of time on the latest hardware such as the HTC One, G2 or Galaxy S4) but I was always a little disappointed by the promise of "buttery smooth performance" from the Jellybean. I have a One X and also another tablet from Pipo running the RK3188 so it's no slouch but both are not what I would call a smooth experience (although my One X became a heck of a lot better after flashing Cyanogenmod). I originally came from iPhones and iPads so I was very disappointed in this regard.
Now with the G Pad, I finally know what "buttery smooth" feels like on an Android. The machine is just incredible with next to no interface lag at all and all the apps zip around without any effort. The Wi-Fi strength is also incredible, picking up my router from distances that my One X, iPad mini or iPhone 4S could never have.
For the sake of LG, I hope it really does well. They deserve it and will hopefully release more products like this in the future.

As you pointed out low stock could mean heavy selling or it could mean low stock. Considering the way it started off in the US, i.e., few retailers and high prices, I'm inclined to think that LG does not have a lot of capacity to manufacture the units. Currently, we're seeing more discounting in the US and few more options for retailers, but it is still not widely sold. Could be that the situation will get better as they produce more units.
Awesome tablet but I just returned mine to BestBuy. I've been burnt before buy buying a killer device that no one else bought. Software updates don't come and accessories don't fit. Very sad that LG made this ridiculous exclusive distribution deal.

I played with one at best buy in southern il today it was next to the lg g2. I think I'll love this thing it's the perfect size and seems fast. I figure I'll keep for at least a year maybe longer if no one comes out with a better 8 inch tab. Samsung's note screen sucks I also looked at it today.

Well Said Woody.
Fast forward to the present and it's still the same.. BestBuy could care less about this Tablet.. a lot of sales reps still don't know about it and it's still to this day not on display..
And that's sad.
I have posted similar thoughts about lack of promotion and availability for this tablet in other forums. It's very strange to have such a product available only at one B&M retailer (BB), and one online store (Newegg), and as a GPE version. With that approach you would think LG would have dumped a bunch of money into promoting the G Pad at BB. I've seen enough complaints in the reviews at Newegg (and elsewhere for units purchased from Newegg) to think they were chosen to handle the returns, refurbished units, and otherwise 'unclean' units.
Having said that, our BB started displaying a black version and a white version G Pad a couple of weeks ago. Last week they price matched Newegg's $280 for the black version for me when they were selling theirs for $350. The sales rep I got knew all about the G Pad and started trying to sell me on it but I already knew everything I needed to know.
Now VerizonWireless has started to sell it as well, with LTE. That could be a breakthrough for this tablet, especially with the pricing model they have ($100 with a 2 year contract through tomorrow, $149 after that, and $300 with no contract). Those prices are pretty enticing, I think, especially compared to BB's $350 everyday price for the WiFi only model. It will be interesting to see what happens with this tablet now that VW is in the picture.
Another thought. I've wondered, especially since the GPE came out, if maybe the G Pad is a trial run for a Nexus 8 replacement for the Nexus 7 and maybe a new Nexus 10 as well that a lot of folks are waiting for. Google got a lot of heat for the issues many folks had with the Gen2 Nexus 7 built by ASUS. Maybe they are testing the waters with LG for their next generation Nexus tablets and they and LG aren't necessarily concerned about how much money they make from this one. Just a thought.

Which smartwatch to go for

I'm looking into buying a smartwatch and I'm stuck at deciding which one to go for. The price can't be higher than 150$ because of my finances, so Gear and TrueSmart are out of my league.
I was looking more closely into SmartQ Z, ZGPax and Motorola Motoactv. I would use it mostly for everyday use and running. I also take in account the modding capability and apps that can run on it. I'm aware that ZGPax and Motoactv can basically be completely modified and can run most play store apps (and motoactv even has GPS build in). So what about SmartQ Z? Could I for example run edmondo sports tracker?
All answers are much appreciated. Oh and if it matters, I have a HTC One X running CM11, so compatibility shouldn't be an issue right?
I'm waiting the answer with you, I prefer SmartQ Z

I'm on my second motoACTV. It's amazing even if you don't root it and install custom roms.
My first ACTV lasted two years and is still working. I used it as a daily watch but also at the gym or for running. Sweat and rain damaged the buttons after 18 months of heavy use. Six months later (last month) I bought a new one for $125 at amazon. This one is a newer version of the device with a few design changes but it's still the same ACTV.
The funny thing is that the buttons on my old actv are working now perfectly lol.
But anyway, I would recommend the Actv because it's tough. Mine fell to the floor a lot and there are no scratches what so ever.
Battery life lasts like a week if you use it as a watch.
If you have wifi on and are downloading apps then screen time is 1-2 hours.
It's an impressive little device and it looks cool. And it's so amazing that it came in November 2011 yet it can do the same all these new devices do (except taking pictures).
And its price is also quite good on amazon. So I'd go for it.
Edit: motoactv app on the play store will let you sync everything, no matter on what Android phone you are. motoactv.com will track all your fitness data.
Thanks for the reply mtvdeo! Motoactv is really tempting I must say, mostly because it's more of a standalone watch with the gps and everything. Problem is though, I'm from central Europe (Slovenia) and getting even an used one is quite a pain. I couldn't find any under 150$ (If I take delivery and handling fees into consideration).

I was lucky since I went on vacation to the US and bought it from amazon.com for $110 (plus $15 dollar tax).
I'm from Latin America and it's quite a pain to buy stuff here. Tons of regulations and taxes. I'm basically not allowed to buy stuff from other countries where I live.
But maybe in your country you could buy from Amazon.com (USA site). It's really cheap there. I don't know about the shipping taxes and charge, though.
However, if you can wait a bit more, Google is announcing their watch in a few months. I think LG will make it. Motorola will also announce their new watch, which is rumored to have amazing battery life and great design. I'm really looking forward to the Motorola one (since I'm a fan of their designs).

The price I mentioned was from amazon, so yeah, too expensive for me. I ordered a ZGPAX yesterday, I'll see how it goes. I'm keeping my eye out on the Nexus smartwatch and the new motorola, I'll probably get one of them when they get released and sell the ZGPAX. :good:
I just ordered a samsung galaxy gear on ebay for a reasonable price. But then today I stumbled across the ZGPAX. The specs are pretty impressive for a $150 dollar watch

So far so good, Moto G is among the very first devices to receive KK 4.4.3
Lenovo isn't stupid, they know that much of Moto's appeal is fast updates. Cheap alone doesn't cut, there are 100s of cheap Chinese devices - but most of them never see updates.
For me, call quality is OK.

Technicalities. For all practical purposes, yes they have.
As you can see in new launches, Moto E, Moto G 4G and the rumoured Moto X+1, all have MicroSD slots. No Nexus phone/tablet and original Moto G/X, all under Google, have the slot. Simply put, they want you to spend on Google Drive, and a MicroSD spoofs that.

Summing up, Moto G is amazing. I bought for myself and my wife, and we are both loving it. The only downside, in my humble opinion, is the lack of a MicroSD slot.
Just be sure to buy the 16GB version, especially if you are into games/recording videos, as these will eat up space in no time.
When you put it like that, Lenovo buying Motorola isn't such a bad thing. Lenovo laptops(especially the ThinkPad line) are very good too. I still remember how the CEO Yang Yuanqing took his annual bonus and gave it to his workers. I am sad by this shift in owners because I really was hoping for more phones to be made(assembled) in the US for the jobs. Having written that, the US market has spoken when it came to the Moto X so here I am with my Moto X, knowing this phone is probably the last of its kind because the US market values the price and specs more than the experience and where it came from.

Consumers seem to value price, specs, and most importantly brand. The only reason people buy Samsung phones is because, oh, Samsung! It's a popular brand!
It kinda sucks.

I would qualify this as something more than just popular brand. I'd make your argument for Apple products though! With Samsung, I can list some qualitative features that distinguish Samsung from the rest: AMOLED, removable battery, microSD, no on-screen buttons, plastic build-quality?? I've read enough peoples' opinions to know that they want to move away from Samsung, but can't because no other brand offers what Samsung offers.
I hope that Motorola will move backward to the days of microSD and removable batteries(doubtful).
MicroSD is already back.
Brand is not exactly what most people want. They want bang per buck, usually. Sure, some people with cash to spare buy due to the brand.
As you mentioned, some Samssung features are hard to find in others. But most Android phones now have on screen buttons. So, how to be the best in class when most fellas are basically the same? Price.
Price alone won't cut in some cases - smartphones, for example. 1st time smartphone buyers may be seduced by dirt cheap, but after a while some other things become priorities. That's when you want the most bang per buck. And that's where the Moto G excels.
Great price for the specs, especially screen. Camera is not top of the line but will do for the majority of people, casual shooters. SoC not top of the line but very good for the average user. Battery is decent, telephony is OK. So, you have a very decent phone at a very good price. Add to that blazing fast updates, and you have a winner. For the majority of people, the phone is more than enough. Phones with simmilar SoC/RAM/internal storage are a lot costlier. Let alone the 720p screen, which even costlier rivals lack.
Sure, the removable battery is nice to have, as are wireless charging and NFC, but not mandatory. What really annoys me is the lack of MicroSD. You have to backup stuff often. Google will be happy if you use Drive for that, but in Brazil prices for mobile data are too high, and even landline internet is not that fast, so many people, including me, use the USB cable for that.
I'm not worried

I owned several thinkpads, both before and after Lenovo bought the brand from IBM. While I would say the quality and available technology had become more mainstream over the years, the high-quality service that was provided by IBM always remained. I had a motherboard replaced on my T400 when it was a month old. That was I believe the 3rd generation of Lenovo product.
I just replaced my old Motorola V60 phone on my voice-only line with a Moto G, partially because it will be one of the last pre-Lenovo phones and because my old phone was dying, but I have no worry that the phone will be supported at least as well as other brands mid-level phones and probably better than most.
Now, if Lenovo would just bring back quality slider phones under the Motorola name, I might be able to give up my blackberry as well.
thank you all , couldn't get better answers than these

Yep, I also have a Lenovo laptop, and I gotta say, the hardware build quality is incredible for the price (2 years later, battery still lasts 3 hours like when I first got it). The software made by Lenovo looks ancient, but works really efficient and has 0 impact on cpu and ram (by 0, I don't mean 0.01 or 0.1, I mean 0, ZERO)
I really hope to see the same quality on the mobile devices (well, this is exactly the description of the moto g stock rom)

Did HTC released a phone that no one will buy?

Why would you buy this if you can get the same and more with the LG v20
Yes! It's really gorgeous....I love it!
i do have to admit that for years, i claimed i would buy new a Htc phone if it was within phablet territory and Qhd.
the no audio jack is such a stupid FAIL though.
When will htc realise that they cant afford to play apples silly games?
I would prefer htc u ultra to the v20, but the no audio jack......... besides samsung and xiaomi will make more stunning phones. than the u ultra

It's also bigger then the pixel XL and v20 by size (obvisoly bigger that the note 7).
No AMOLED and smaller battery.
I wanted to buy this so much but there are so many stupid mistakes.
The headphone jack.is not a big deal.since there is an adapter which is not an issue.
I am thinking of buying this phone, I currently have a Huawei P9 Plus. However the delay in availability, the relatively small battery and lack of 3.5mm jack doesn't make it certain for me. The LG G6 or Samsung Galaxy S8 could convince me otherwise in the next month or so.

people think the adapter makes it ok. it doesnt, cos its a small , extra part that can easily get lost.

Htc are releasing the phone that they should have released 2 years ago.
THey are so far behind the times, its beyond stupid for a desperate company
I am never getting samsung again. I had the note 5 galaxy s7edge and the note 7. I hated them all. They were solid, beautiful and the camera kicked ass but the user experience was horrible. I still had the lag and things just crashed.

I bought it. I had the V20 and their support is crap. HTC over the years has given me far better support than LG has. I ended up forcing T-Mobile to allow me to return my V20 and ended up buying an iPhone since I don't like Samsung.
I understand it doesn't have the 835 and doesn't make me a sandwich but if it provides me with a clean experience like I had with the 10 I would be glad. So far HTC has provided me with a overall better experience than LG and Samsung has given me. I will give it to Samsung about the Note 7 being the best device they made in a while.
I bought one, previously on Pixel XL.

Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers Legacy app
have them here in HK already for sale and to test, they seem ok, but i would prefer oled displays. I'll see if the HTC 11 delivers maybe that will convince me to trade in this s7 edge for it.
Greetings;
Would someone know if there is different variants of U Ultra or just one WW version?
I'm about to buy one from Hong Kong and want to make sure that all the LTE bands are
present for North America.
Thank you.

Why not buy from HTC.com in the US site, it says releases mid March which is only few weeks away. Generally global HTC phones don't have all three US LTE bands. If I were you I would purchase from US site since it also has the OH Oh protection if you break the phone.

Where to buy G5 Plus locally?

My local best buy seems to never have anything in the phone world unless it costs $500 plus even when the website says so. I rather have the G5S Plus but will take a G5 Plus 32GB. Moto says it's sold out of the gray g5s plus. So what stores would you suggest I go look at locally? I'm in a city of 200K so we have the usual stores here. Seems like retailers rather get you inside a store rather than say they are out of stock. My current phone has a fully busted screen so I much rather have a new device asap tomorrow morning. Phone will be used on Metro pcs / T-Mobile network
Thanks in advance

Target and Walmart are both selling the phone in my area. Give them both a call and see what they have in stock in your area.

Not sure where you live, but I live in a rural state and am over 400 miles from any city over 500k or so, and the only place I have found this device is at BestBuy... Almost every BestBuy store stocks it around here, even in Bismarck, ND, they have 13 phones under $200.
I have never had much luck at Target or Walmart for phones, all they carry around here is branded pre-paid devices.
If you live in a bigger city, you have some more options... B&H Photo, MicroCenter, or Fry's Electronics may carry this or something else like it in store.
If you absolutely need it tomorrow, might need to do some digging on Best Buy... Some other options would be Axon 7 Mini (my son has had this phone a year or so, it is extremely under-rated device, nicer than my G5 Plus in most regards for $100 less), Blu R1 Plus (there is a BB exclusive model, almost every store carries it), Asus ZenFone 3 Max, or ZTE Blade V8 Pro. Just about every BestBuy I have seen in the 8 states I travel to frequently stock at least a dozen unlocked >$300 phones, but you often have to dig for them as they aren't always out in the open. I deal with Best Buy a lot, it isn't uncommon in some areas to have to show the person working there the app and say "you have this somewhere and I would like to buy it now, can you find it for me?" and they usually come up with it in some back room stock or something.
Otherwise, as much as I hate to say it, but overnight shipping from Amazon might be worth it.
I was going to start a new thread but the subject thread still applies...
In 2019 does anyone know where to find a 4GB/64GB XT1687? Motorola no longer sells it, Amazon only has their Amazon Prime with locked down bootloader. Third parties aren't forthcoming about what they're offering.
I live in California and purchased one from a fellow Californian but once I got it it turned out to be the Amazon version. Bah! Anyone know of any sellers selling the regular Motorola version.
I like playing with older ROMs. My daily driver since 2014 has been a LG G3. I run and multiboot between KitKat through Oreo ROMs. Fun stuff but I've been through three of those. They fail for one reason or another.
I have other devices but they're either Oreo+ or just too much trouble when going from one Android version to another. Potter has/had googobs of development so there's always something to play with. Granted, Nougat+ I believe but that's cool.
If anyone knows of any reliable sellers for the phone I'd appreciate any pointers.

I saw a few on ebay the other day. That's where I'd get mine from if I wanted another today.
Don't buy them all though so I can have one when my current one dies!

LOL. Okay, I'll try to control myself.
Thanks, I haven't been on eBay in a long time. Will take a look. N1wireless has the phone but I suspect it's Amazon so sent a mail to their sales group. A week later and they haven't responded. Not a good sign.

Need to look very close at phones listed on eBay. I bought a ""New-In-Box!" phone a few weeks ago that was not new at all. Of course the same thing with Amazon, lot of people have complained about getting refurbishes (or worse) phones when the listing said "new". If you find something you like on eBay or Amazon, contact the seller before you buy! And/or at least read some of the seller reviews., especially looking for any negative ones.
About a month ago I got super-lucky and found a definitely-new 64gb G5 Plus on Swappa, for $160. Yeah like I said, super-lucky.

. . . has been known to have the exact phone I was looking for at a competitive price, online ordering.
But if you're not looking for new, I would recommend checking Swappa first. Right this minute they have two "Mint" G5 Pluses listed, and a "Good" phone with 64gb. I've bought several phones on Swappa and every one has been what it was advertised to be. They screen sellers and their ads pretty well, and even run a phone's IMEI before approving a listing.
Just a little update. I haven't purchased one yet. B&H Photo has none. Swappa has only one Consumer Cellular phone.
N1Wireless finally got back to me. They said all of theirs are regular Motorola phones, not Amazon Prime models. They still have the 4/64 models, open box, both Gold and Lunar Gray.
Understandably, pickins are gettin' slim for older phones.

Umm... The regular Moto 4/64 version is the one you want. You don't want a carrier variant or the Amazon one. Color-wise, throw it in a case and be good to go regardless.
At this point the device is two years old though... Why not look at a new Nokia or (if budget allows) Pixel 3a device. One thing we are seeing with later Moto devices is they are really designed to die at 2 years, things start failing quickly especially the battery which is a bugger to replace.
Oh, of course on the first points. Was just mentioning what was out there.
The only reason I was looking at the potter is because I like to play (usually multiboot) with older ROMs, which I prefer. Potter had a grip of goodies to play with.
My main phone has been the LG G3 where I multiboot between KitKat thru Oreo ROMs. Fun stuff. Daily/primary was a fave LP used since 2015. After screen was failing on the third one I started looking at the G5 Plus.
I have other phones (ZTE Axon 7, Moto G5s Plus, Essential PH-1, and little ole Galaxy Light) so not in actual need. I'm sure this fourth G3 will fail in some way shortly, hence the hunt.
Not interested in new phones, or new Androids to be exact. I have no interest in Pie and barely tolerate Oreo. Though I almost got a OnePlus 6T but the IRS snatched up my refund (can't get away from old school loans I guess. LOL).
