Slow WiFi with screen off

I am running CM10 on my Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus, but I had this issue on stock as well (Galaxy Nexus 4.0.4 worked though).
Whenever I am downloading a large file, I usually turn the screen off. However, when I turn it back on 15 minutes later to check the download, and it only downloaded a small fraction of the file! Both devices have WiFi set to never sleep.
In a short test I just did, 20 mb to 24 mb took 8 seconds with the screen on; 24 mb to 26 mb took 1 minute with the screen off. (Nexus 7, same situation on Galaxy Nexus)
Is anyone else having these issues? I know I am on a nightly ROM, but I had these issues on stock Jelly Bean as well (even some ICS on the Gnex).

Supposedly it is a JB feature to throttle down the connection with the screen off. There is an app called WiFi High Performance Widget that you can use to keep it at maximum speed.
It's free but listed as not compatible with the N7 even thoug it works fine. I've uploaded it to my box account, you can download it here.

Wow nice, thanks! Works great. Just wish I could hide the notification. Hopefully this can get baked in to CM10 :good:
Thanks for this, I can listen to streamed music now in standby.
Will try it later
Thanks. I will have to try this later.
This definitely sounds like a "feature" that should be OPTIONAL.
Crazy that we have to download another application to fix it.
The stock N7 slows down my wifi so much that I have to turn on my screen after every song Pandora plays.
When I turn it on Pandora seems to buffer enough of the song or the entire song and after it is over... nothing, turn on the screen and the next song starts playing.
Perhaps before Google does a new release, they should stress test any application with 50,000,000+ downloads.
permissions
I can see why it needs...
System tools
connect and disconnect from Wi-Fi, prevent tablet from sleeping
But why does it need...
Phone calls
read phone status and identity, reroute outgoing calls

[Q] Freeze and reboot

Hello everbody,
bought 2 weeks ago the Nexus 4 16GB and I'm very happy with it.
But i have the problem, that the device restarts when it is under load, means i play or watch something what needs
the full power of the CPU and GPU.
It happens a lot when i play Iron Man 3 The Official Game or Dead Trigger.
Than the device freezes, can't kill the app or even lock the screen and after 10~ seconds it reboots itself.
Active Wifi, Bluetooth, 3G or not doesn't make any difference.
The only strange thing is, what i discovered after a few crashes, is that the battery gauge stands still before the crash and after the reboot the gauge drops to it assumed level.
Screenshot as attachment.
System: Android 4.3 Stock (with this last mini patch from last week)
Does anyone have a idea how i can fix this?
I tried, to charge the battery while android is off and to turn android at 100% on, but this doesn't help.
Sincerely,
GTrash81

Did you undervolt the CPU?
If this is happening without rooting/etc... then I would definitely get a replacement. It sounds like the processor is overheating and causing a reboot rather than throttling.
Today i checked if the device is getting too hot.
But after 2 minutes playing Iron Man, by 9°C outside (i was on the way to the city, waiting for the train), it rebooted.
So i started the game, deactivated the display and put it on the table. After 4 hours i checked the game and played over 10 minutes without a crash.
So what i think is, that these two don't like Trim (most new feature with 4.3) or the are badly programmed and must reload/refresh objects while playing and Trim must work to clear temporary files.
And they are badly programmed, because i red at the developers page, that a few other people have the same problems.
So excuse me for wasting your time. But hey, to err is human.
Sincerely,

Fire HD 10 slows down after some time

I've rooted the device, replaced the launcher, disabled many Amazon apps.
The device runs smoothly after reboot. But after some time (this is a bit random as I have not used it consistently), the performance will degrade significantly. Opening Chrome can take 30 seconds and keyboard takes 20 seconds to show up.
Is there anything else I need to do?
I did notice Alexa is running. I don't use it. Can I safely disable it?
Thanks

Bluetooth streams 'slow' like a record player going bad

I am on 10.3.1 non-rooted. Since the update to 10, every few days I have to either reboot the phone or turn BT on and off. The problem is the audio starts playing slow. It's like an old record playing slow, but not much. It would be like an old 45rpm single playing at 40rpm. It's not horrible but definitely is noticeable.

Happens to me as well and it was happening on 10.0.1 or whatever version was prior to 10.3.1. I'm rooted.

SM T-285 running veryyyyy slooow

Got this tablet on Android 5.1 but is very often running very slow and unresponsive.
When I like touch sometimes the webpage link it freezes or it doesn't get a command or usually is laggy, and gets touch command in few seconds.
I suppose it's the RAM problem since it really has minimum RAM.
Also it's the problem with high rez pdf files, sometimes even takes 30 seconds to load pdf page.
So what should I do?
Maybe flash LineageOS and expect to work better (normal)?
