Hello.
I am currently debating wether or not I should get an Oppo Find 5. As far as I have understood the phone is kind of open to develop for. I guess you people that have one has a better understandning of the situation.
What are your predictions on the phone running future versions of Android? Will it be possible to develop a KitKat rom for the phone? I've heard a lot of people complaining about the software in the phone but I really don't care as long as a relatively clean rom such as AOSP/AOKP is available.
As far as I've understood many Samsung phones for example have been a pain to develop for because of the locked down Exynos? Are there any such problems with the Oppo? Such as Oppo or Qualcomm have the phone locked down in some way? I always believe in the community but I don't like when we have to depend on the manufacturers.
Regards.

Next version of android will for sure also come to this phone. Codefirex has a android 4.3 ROM even with a pure aosp function in it, so yes there is also an aosp rom for find 5 and it shouldn't depend on oppo if a custom 4.4 version is coming or not

I'm planning on buying the 4gb 128gb version from aliexpress, but there's no vanilla android(Pure stock android) rom for this phone. The reason why I want stock Android is because I need Gravitybox as it's a must when I get a new phone. So will we see an AOSP rom anytime soon?

No. Buy a OnePlus 3T. Or an HTC 10. Or an Honor 8, they have a mostly fully working cm13 ROM.

I was thinking of buying one of those as well but they all have dealbreaking issues.
OnePlus 3T: Poor display for VR
HTC 10: Too small
Honor 8: No 4K recording
Guess I'm stuck with the Axon 7.

And software is a bigger deal breaker than all of those things you've mentioned. At the end of the day, you do whatever you want to do, but the Axon 7 isn't as good as any of those mentioned phones, solely on the software experience and dev community.
We have an almost working CM13 that many use as daily driver and, IMHO, CM does not need Gravitybox (I agree AOSP badly needs it).
But if I could go back, I would take a harder look at OP3T for exactly the software issue.

Gravity box works except for the quick settings tweaks.
Hola
Just to add my experience, I was one of those who really was interested in the Axon 7 since it was announced earlier this year (MWC 2016 in Feb??), so I purchased it the instant it was released. The hardware is undoubtedly top notch except:
1. The crappy capacitive buttons that are placed too close together.
2. Stupid vibration setup - Either on or off with no vibration intensity configuration.
3. Non-existent granular volume level controls - Yes you can increase or decrease the overall volume, but the increments are too far apart (this could be a software limitation though).
So I've used it for a month or so but because of the lack of a near complete AOSP or CM based ROM (mostly due to ZTE's slowness in providing source and a number of proprietary blobs), I really yearned for my ability to try different ROMs and flash different add-ons like I was accustomed to. So I end up buying the OnePlus 3T. Man it was nice to use and experience a phone that can garner so many devs. If only the 3T had dual front facing speakers, expandable storage, and that QHD res screen, then it would have been the best of the best in my opinion.
I am now back to using the Axon 7 using one of those slightly modified ZTE based ROMs with Xposed. I consume a lot of media on my phone. I still keep my 3T for testing out new dev ROMs like RR or CM.
Seems like OEMs can't make a phone that provides great hardware (e.g. A7) while providing access to firmware sources and letting dev community to thrive.

Sorry bruh, I'm not a developer, and I didn't like programming much. Someone should port a stock rom from Oneplus 3/3t to this phone instead. That would be great.

Oneplus 3T? Nope, no card slot. HTC 10, overpriced junk, and single sim. Honor 8, Hisilicon Kirin, nope. I prefer snapdragon because most apps on the play store, and some special features are made uniquely for snapdragon chips.
Not interested in cm13/14 because I can't use gravitybox on it.
So the Axon 7 is a great buy. The 4gb/128gb version if sold in most countries will actually sell like hot cakes.

No CM13 doesn't need gravitybox, but I find more features on gravitybox than on CM13. CM13 doesn't work really well with gravitybox as I'm using it on my current phone till Rovo builds xposed for Android 7.1, and I'm currently experiencing some automatic shutdowns on this rom. I own a Jiayu s3,(Has a mediatek chipset)and I'm looking to upgrade to the Axon 7 because of the amazing speakers and the camera.
On the CM13 thread, it says that the GPS is working, but something is written about QC location. What's QC there?

I actually need the quick settings tweaks because I need the switcher. 2g only, 3g only, 4g only, 4g/3g. It's important because sometimes the phone automatically switches from 4g to 3g if it thinks the 4g signal is less. And 4g uses band 3, 1800MHz whereas 3g uses 2100MHz(no clue about the band number here).
So I need to keep it on 4g only in this case.
And in some areas, neither 4g nor 3g is available, so I'll have to make do with 2g.

Qualcomm izat doesn't work but then again that is mostly superfluous if you have Google services.
Right now, GPS works on Cm13 but is not super accurate {probably 20 meters or so}

Gravity Box work perfect on Stock Rom, no need of AOSP ROM for GB to work.
Gravity Box and App Settings (v1.13) are my have to have modules in Xposed and they work great.
IMO the axon 7 is better than the one plus 3 or honor 8 (in terms of hardware) but the lack of roms is definitely a deal breaker for some people. However in about a week or so I'm going to start working on porting AOSP to the axon 7. Iv'e never ported a rom before so I can't make any promises on when it'll be done (if ever lol). I know a thing or two about programming so I think I'll be able to figure something out, so stay tuned!

It wouldn't be easy starting out now, and it'll take a while. You could start by heading over to the op3 thread and see any AOSP Marshmallow rom.
Then maybe ask in the Q&A section for porting this rom to the Axon 7.

Im thinking about getting a Tab 8 plus 4/64 to replace my Nexus 7 2013.
I don't see much development support for the Tab 8 Plus. Great to see TWRP and root.
Do you think there will be an XDA community for this device?
There are so few upgrade choices from the Nexus 7.

There seems to be a problem in terms of availability for the tablet worldwide, which is why very few reports have come through.
I have specifically bought this Tab 4 Plus with WiFi and 64GB storage as a Nexus 7 replacement and I am super happy with the decision. Custom recovery and root works as described. Give it a couple of weeks and I assume there will be a dedicated forum for the Tab 4 Plus here on XDA. And as soon as Lenovo publishes the kernel sources for the device, there will be many custom ROMs to choose from.
Right now, the Android on the device is pretty vanilla and serves its purpose very well.
Giving this thread a bump. Dev support for this device still seems pretty quiet. Been eyeing the 4/64 GB on eBay for $330. It ships from Korea.

Do you know if it passes SafetyNet with Magisk 14.3 and Magisk Hide or if it will require a custom kernel to hide the bootloader status?
Hey, I got myself a Tab 4 8 Plus from South Korea recently - the 4 GB RAM / 64 GB storage version. I've used CyanogenMod and LineageOS for ages on my Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 2013, and I'm a little sad the Tab isn't supported yet. If anyone involved in development is interested, I'd be happy to help however I can with my device. I'm not familiar with Android development, however - I'd totally try and port LineageOS to this if I could.
there's a guy in the root thread that was saying he was starting a debloated ROM. lets see if he delivers. this sure is the best android tablet in the market!
Hi guys, I just got this tablet from singapore seller, but it come with chinese rom,
I'm not familiar with lenovo (use to be xiaomi fans).
Is there any tutorial available to change it to global rom? and is there any forum to discuss bugs on each rom version like on the xiaomi miui forum?
I can't find any donwloadable link in the lenovo web support.
Thanks
I did get a Lenovo Tab 4 8 Plus to replace my aging Nexus 7 2013. Unfortunately, that was two months ago now and I'm still using my Nexus as this Tab 4 keeps cooking uSD cards. Apparently it's a known problem, some say hardware, some say software, some claim it was fixed with the December 2017 update, some say it's still there. Either way, I want to root this potentially sweet tablet and drop on Lineage or something custom before I give up on it, but for that I want a decent custom ROM.

Since the source code was published by Lenovo there is now a good chance to get something custom if there will be a developer to help us out building a rom.
I did read a lot of complaints about a lack of source code from lenovo, but it was released in November from what I can see. That's six months ago, so I wouldn't hold my breath for anything useful soon.
This nifty little tablet is really awesome. The almost stock android experience is nice... But the additional customisations of a custom ROM would be helpful. Right now lenovos system UI is quite picky about being modded and would FC when I try to tweak the nav bar.
yes, maybe after oreo update there will be some custom rom...

I'm just wondering if a ROM with Android Go is an option to flash to the N7 given that it's designed for low end devices.
Apologies if not, I'm quite new to all this.
Not yet at least.

Hi.
I'm still running stock, but wanted something that is more up to date securely, and also has the newer version of Android. But this is my primary device so need something that is also stable. Any recommendations? Not sure if there are any good roms right now worth to do, or if I should wait a while for something better.
Also, is there anything newer out there with this sort of hardware setup with the magnetic keyboard? It seem like the best tablet keyboard combo I've seen. Any news this hardware style will be revived? What I especially like about it is if I'm not using the keyboard it sticks to the back and doesn't separate from the tablet. Also slike that it doesn't have that extra stand that pops out on the back of the tablet like the Surface.

Sounds good. When do you estimate would be a good time to get in for something that will fully work? Or is that not likely at all? Sorry, am not very familiar with the custom ROM environment, but am basically looking for something that won't have problems and will have encryption.

Difference? Mostly small things, pe tries to get as close as possible to the pixel phones.
Atm camera freezes at 20 minutes of Video recording, afaik everything else is working great.
Yes both get atm security updates but arent official, @followmsi and i havent enough time to make it official. For me it isnt important. @webgeek1234 and @Vartom are working on 4.9 kernel and nvidia foster sources for our pixel but no eta atm
Just try los-17.1 or pe-ten and have a look in their coresponding threads

Hi. I never ended up installing any custom ROM in my Pixel C, but now am now thinking to do it. It’s been a while since this thread was started and I was wondering if the answer is still the same or if there are any new ROMs out there that are better. I’m looking for the most stable, secure, and fast ROM. The device is now fairly old so it’s gotten slow, but at the same time I want to make sure to have the latest security and good stability.

search for lineage os microg, it is very safe definitely no malware. it has support of tons devices that even official lineage dropped it because of older android version,
the rom purpose is to get better stability and battery friendly without actual Google Play services core meaning no Gapps pre installed but can be installed separately and used to sign in with microg core built in rom. it was my first time using rom without actual GMS and i find that most of stuff i do on tablet aren't necessary needed with GMS

there isnt thread in xda for pixel c to install this rom, on google search just write "lineage os microg" and click on first link. when you go to download section the codename for google pixel c is "Dragon"
you also need fastboot drivers on pc to unlock the bootloader, google devices are easy and simple to unlock bootloader. in pixel c case i had little bit trouble with drivers
