I have a Samsung Galaxy S8 on Verizon. Its paid off so I will be asking them to unlock it.
My wife has a Pixel phone and Google Fi ... can I order another Google Fi SIM and use it on my S8?
I read a reddit post saying the S8 will work, running only on T-Mobile with a Google FI SIM; not doing T-Mobile <-> Sprint switching.
... is this true?
thx for the help
It will work on just the tmo/att side. But what's the point... Just get TMobile then...
I just called Verizon, they said it will not work on T-Mobile. I'm confused.
Verizon phones are sim unlocked, so any sim card will work. It sounds like they are trying to keep you locked into their network
Lol of course they are going to tell you that! They don't want you going to a competitor

Hi, I am currently with AT&T but would prefer purchasing a t mobile S7 outright and unlocking it for use on AT&T. Anyone have any experiences with unlocking services?
Yap, I remember using https://www.unlockunit.com/ last year, charged me ~$20 for AT&T S6 Edge, and it worked.
Unlocking
I have used these guys a few times with success
Quick phone unlock dot com
don't know about ATT but with Tmobile, unlock codes do not work anymore. atleast for the s6

Try these guys - www.cellunlocker.net. I've been using them for a long time and they've always come through for me.
Sim-unlock.net
Did mine last night
i have used cellunlocker.net before and they have been 100% able to unlock what i had. i even made the mistake of buying twice for some reason but they refunded me the 2nd one without me even asking. it's the new tmobile unlock app i havent tried yet. i tried getting them to unlock my tmobile s6 before but after a day or two they said they couldnt do it because of the new system and refunded me and i never tried again. but looks like they figured it out for the s6. i would try it but there is no way for me to test if it works. every sim i have and can borrow is tmobile
I wanna buy now a Sprint, Galaxy S7, and use it on the Verizon network, because Verizon has less capabilities to play around with software. but Verizon is still the better service, so I wanna stick to them, so does anybody know if Sprint still locks their LTE phones? And will it work 100% on the Verizon network, and how will it work internationally on the GSM network, can someone please educate me in this Subject?
Try this service: www.unlockradar.com if you want to unlock your Glaxy S7. Customer support is very responsive and they can asist you at any time.
I did a search and didn't find a similar post, if there is one I apologize. I am a developer novice, and might not use the correct terminology or leave some things out. If this is the case, please correct me and ask me to add and I will gladly respond.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 edge from Verizon:
Model: SM-G935V
Baseband version: G935VVRU4API3
Hardware Version: REV0.7
Android Version: 6.0.1
States that it is a Global Unlocked phone, but I have my doubts (probably SIM unlocked but not bootloader unlocked)
I have a SIM card and service through Verizon that works fine, and I just ordered Project Fi's SIM and service. I activated the Project Fi SIM and service on the LG Nexus 5X from the Project Fi site. When the Project Fi SIM was inserted into the S7 Edge, the cellular voice calls and SMS worked, but the MMS and data service did not. I found a tutorial for adding an APN to make it work and it does.
The questions that I have are,
1) Looking at gsmarena.com almost all of the same bands on the Nexus 5X are on the S7E. Is there a way to see if Verizon has any bands blocked to keep me from switching carriers and if so, how do I find and unblock the ones that are?
2) I am planning on a trip to Peru in a couple months for a few weeks and want to use my S7E with Fi, so that I do not have to pay the international rates Verizon wants to charge. (According to two Reddit users and the Project Fi website, Project Fi does work in Peru). Is there anything I need to check and/or do before going to ensure it works?
I thank any answers in advance.

Holy **** that's awesome!
I'm not an expert but I was just in the Bahamas and had a Nexus 6 on Project Fi. It seamlessly switched to HSPA+ when we came into service range. If it says it'll work in Peru, then you should be fine. Just to be safe though, you should probably bring both phones in case the S7 Edge doesn't end up working for whatever reason.

I do plan on bringing both. The goal would be to find a way to make it work BEFORE going. That way I can sell the Nexus 5X. It is BRAND new and Ive only installed 2 apps on it. Since Google sold it at a discount price for signing up to Fi, i could sell it at no loss (deal for whoever buys it from me) and then drop Verizon and use my project Fi on it here, Peru, and anywherw else in my travels.
Maybe I'll upgrade to a Pixel and then not worry about it ?
I've looked everywhere for the answer to this question. I know that the Verizon phone comes unlocked and can work on all GSM carriers (T-Mobile, AT&T) but does it also work on Sprint? Or does it not have the CDMA bands that Sprint uses?
It does have the bands and everything needed to work on Sprint.... But to activate it Sprint would have to manually add it to their system and they won't do that.... It was a pain when the Nexus 6 came out of you bought it from Google

So what can I do to get them to manually add it?

I wonder this too? I have a t-mobile that I flashed to unlocked and they say they can't add it... a bunch of BS...
does anyone know if sprint s8 can be used on verizon?
All u have to do is chat with sprint and buy one of there byod sim cards. Had a similar problem with a moto g4 i bought for my mom on her sprint account.
Assuming that the verizon s8 doesnt have a boa on a line that has not been paid.
I also took my wifes iphone 6 from sprint to verizon than to straight talk with verizon sim.
I am interested in trying Tmobile for service but have a phone issue. I currently have Verizon service with a S5. Tmobile has advised me that my S5 would not work great on their network. They suggested that I buy an S8 to give their network the proper test. But if I do not like the service coverage, I understand their S8 would not work properly on the Verizon network if I were to switch back. So, I would like to know if I purchased an S8 from Verizon would it work well on the Tmobile network. Also, if I purchased an unlocked S8 from Samsung would it work well on both Tmobile and Verizon.
Please give me your advise.

Some "unlocked " phones are gsm only and Verizon is cdma(I think the s8 and plus have all bands though not 100%sure). Make sure it's compatible 1st. I setup Verizon s5s and s6s for people on T-Mobile before besides the sim card isn't from Verizon message when you 1st boot up they worked fine for them. Make sure apns are correct and don't use Verizon message app you'll be ok to try network.

If you truly want the S8 no matter which service you end up with, get the unlocked us version (like at Best buy) it should be both GSM and CDMA.

An unlocked version from Samsung.com should serve you better on both of your carriers. I have an unlocked S8, purchased from Samsung and I use it with T-Mobile.
Read the first portion and then scroll to the bottom for fine print and you will find your answer.

Just received my S10+ a few hours ago. Purchased online through Verizon with device payments. This is probably my 8th Smart Phone purchase with device payments and never had one carrier lock before. My last 3 phones (Pixel 2 XL, iPhone XR, Note 9) have not been carrier locked what so ever even if they are financed.
Today shortly after activating and setting up the device, I pulled my Verizon SIM out and inserted my T-Mobile SIM like I've done many times before. I instantly got a message that said "Sorry, your device cant be activated on another carriers network right now."
Could this be Verizon Carrier locking the phone or is there an issue server side at Samsung?
The phone activated with no issues on Verizon's end, calls, messages, data all working fine.
i bought Verizon s10+ on samsung.com, it works fine with Freedompop, using ATT network.
I called Verizon. They say there should be no carrier lock regardless of how it was purchased. Guess I'll have to chat with Samsung.
I'm having the same exact issue on my new Verizon S10. Wanted to finish off my month of Google Fi before switching back to Verizon, but I get the same pop-up "Sorry, your device cant be activated on another carriers network right now." I've been on the phone for hours with multiple Verizon, Samsung, and Google Fi reps about this issue and no one has an answer.
Verizon has triple checked and confirmed that there are no carrier locks on my phone. Google Fi just pretends like the issue is that their service isn't "officially compatible" with the new S10 yet. And Samsung keeps telling me that Verizon needs to unlock my phone (even though it's unlocked and paid off). Verizon suggested that maybe it was a Google Fi issue too, so I tried my wife's AT&T and I get the same pop-up restricting other carriers. I even tried activating the phone on Verizon first with a brand new line, and then switching SIMs, but still the same pop-up.
I'm onto my last resort right now, which is to exchange my Verizon S10 for a completely unlocked S10. That isn't ideal since my intentions were to switch back to Verizon eventually, and I would be losing Verizon-specific features. I've never had this issue before, and Verizon tech support has never seen this issue before either. I have no idea what Samsung is doing on their end with these carrier-specific S10s. I'm even currently using a Verizon Note 9 on Google Fi, with absolutely no issues. Not sure if there is new software with these new phones, but it is extremely frustrating.
Same. Nobody knows whats going on.
I will use my S10+ on Verizon for a few days and try to swap the sim again maybe next week. See if somehow it updates on its own.
S10 plus Verizon
Well I just purchased a Verizon branded s10 plus. Popped in my tmobile sim and LTE works.
I'm having the same issue, Verizon S10+ trying to move to T-Mobile
Those having issues, also financed?
Mine is fixed. Did it on its own.

I tried my Google Fi SIM card again, and it still has the same pop up. "Your device cannot be activated on another carrier's network right now." You said you activated the phone on Verizon first though right? How many days did you have a Verizon line active?
The very first power ON was on Thursday around Noon with a T Moible SIM. The phone quickly rejected it and I installed the sim it came with. I messed around with it for a few hours until I gave up and just left the Verizon sim in it.
Today (sunday) I decided to try the T Mobile SIM around 4PM and noticed it was working so I posted an update.
So you actually paid the activation fee and had an active Verizon line on the phone first?
Yes I financed through Verizon.

How is your Note 9 on Google Fi? Was considering switching from T-Mobile to Find. Do you still get WiFi calling? What kinda of data speeds so you get? Sorry, off topic, but don't know anyone personally on Google Fi that doesn't have a pixel.
As an FYI... I purchased an S10+ in full, no payments on Friday morning from the Verizon store. I put my tmobile sim in later that afternoon and got the same message. I talked to tech support and they said it takes 48 hours from activation. He mentioned that they are doing this to prevent theft from store and from people buying/stealing them with out activating them and trying to sell them.
He unlocked it immediately while I was on the phone and I got a text message saying "when I insert a non-verizon sim in the phone it will be unlocked". I put in my tmobile sim and worked fine.
Makes sense why my device started to work after two days.

I talked to 3 different tech supports and they repeated told me all of the possible locks on my phone were unlocked...did you activate the phone first in the Verizon store, or did you go straight to a T-Mobile SIM?

Most of them don't know what they are talking about. I talked to many of them who said the phones were not locked, some said the phones are always locked which I clearly disputed as they don't know their own employers policies/information and read from scripts. The 333rd person I spoke with knew exactly what I was talking about lol.
I didn't activate it in the store, I did when I got home using the verizon sim. After, I put in my tmobile sim and got the message. I didn't want to wait 48 hours (what the first tech told me) so I kept calling until I finally got someone knowledgeable enough to know what I was talking about and he unlocked it while I was on the phone in 10 seconds.

Hmm thanks for the info. Guess I'll keep trying different tech supports. I wonder if they'll be able to unlock without activation at all. Otherwise I'll be paying $50 for a pointless line.
Yes. Verizon now sim locks phones for 24 hours after initial activation. iPhones included. Sometimes the older stock androids or iPhones will immediately accept another sim, but most times now, you have to wait a day. This has been going on since January as far as I've seen.
