G2 seems to have worse LTE reception compared to few other devices I had, is there anyway to disable LTE and go down to HSPA or HSPA+?
I know my area has terrible LTE coverage, but for some reason it sticks to LTE even if it means I am forced to 0.3mbps speeds! Ouch.

You can disable LTE from the service menu, use the code 5457#*(your phone model here)# And you will find an option there with the bands to do so.You can enable only the ones you want and dissable all others.Dont change anything else tho.I cant tell you exactly where you will find it cause the menu is slightly different for every variant it seems.

Thank you so much, I remember now people were running this trick on Nexus 4, but sadly it did not work. When you say Model here, I just put numbers only right? I got the D800 from AT&T, in dialer I just hit 5457#*800# and hit call, nothing happens, I get invalid MMI error. I tried 5457#800# no luck.
However, using your suggestion, I found the code to access service menu, but it wasn't as clear as I hoped it would be so I did not touch anything.
Code:
AT&T LG G2 D800 Service Menu: 3845#*800#
T-Mobile LG G2 D801 Service Menu: 3845#*801#
Verizon LG G2 VS980 Service Menu: 3845#*980#
Sprint LG G2 LS980 Service Menu: 3845#*980#
I expected on/off switches, but there is WDCMA-Only, LTE-Only, and nothing else. There is no HSPA or HSPA+ only or any switch, and I don't want to hit LTE only assuming that will limit the reception to LTE and I will get stuck with no coverage when there is no LTE.
On Sprint, I can go into data settings via dialer (##3282#), and edit LTE screen (requires service code). From there, I can disable LTE and force CDMA/EvDo. Of course, this is on Sprint variant, not sure how AT&T/T-Mobile does it or whichever carrier you're on.

I am on ATT and I can't find this setting anywhere.
Sent from my LG-D800
I also tried *#*#4636#*#* which does not let me go into OEM-Info or any Radio selection.
Why does AT&T do this!?
I believe if you go into settings and go into the mobile networks menu, there is a menu that allows you to choose whether the phone will go into LTE if available or just stay on 4G HSPA+. I'm getting my G2 tomorrow, so I don't remember exactly how I did it when I played with it in the store. If you can't find it, I'll let you know what it is once I get my phone. This is with the T-Mobile G2.

In order of Nice to Naughty,
Sprint
T-Mobile
AT&T
Verizon (wayyyyy low in the list, naughtiest)
So, considering above, I am pretty sure A&T disabled that menu you are referring to (In Mobile Networks) some confirmed it working on Sprint, but I don't think it is available on AT&T. I am stuck with LTE.

Sorry, missed it earlier when you said you were on AT&T. Are you able to go to Settings > Tethering & networks > Mobile networks > Network mode? With the T-Mobile version, there's gsm/wcdma/lte auto, gsm/cdma auto, wcdma only, and gsm only selections under the Network Mode menu. That would really suck if they diabled that setting. I'm assuming you're on stock unrooted.

Service code for the d800 is 3845#*800#
Go to LTE settings, modem setting, then select RAT then you can force what ever mode you want.

There's no RAT selection for me under the LTE modem settings. I have LTE Band Selection, VoLTE Radio, Null Integrity, and LTE-A CA.

I'm on Cloudy 2.2 and it works like a charm.

Dear all.
I have US996 Unlocked.
My phone can't establish mobile data on CDMA network. EVDO and 1x is not work.
On LTE/GSM/UMTS mode, mobile data is working. but Only CDMA mode can't work.
Anyone, Has my same problem?
I need help from everyone. Thanks.
I'm confused. Have you tried setting it to LTE/GSM/UMTS/CDMA mode?
LTE/GSM/UMTS mode isn't going to connect to CDMA at all.
There is no LTE/GSM/UMTS/CDMA.

Hi. Thanks for your reply.
There is no LTE/GSM/UMTS/CDMA.
There is shown LTE/GSM/UMTS and LTE/CDMA.
Most Verizon variant model can connect EVDO network when set LTE/CDMA. But my US996 can't connect it.

Abnormally, I can't set APN. When CDMA mode or Global Mode, The apn is not show anything. I try register the APN, It's not show any APN setting.

My carrier is SKTelecom that is Korean carrier.
When I use verizon LG device(ex, VS985, VS987, VS980...any verizon device) on our carrier, that's work fine EVDO data network.
But, this model(US996 Unlocked) is not working now.
Thanks.
The essential is fantastic because it supports so many bands, but the labeling on them is bizarre.
I'm used to the GSM / LTE / HSDPA / 3G / 2G / CDMA nomers.
Is there anywhere to see what the one on the Essential mean?
Particularly interested in Setting it up for T-Mobile use in the US.
Good point. Im interesting too in US tmobile
Well I found this. http://www.itsitadda.com/2017/01/how-to-use-more-than-3-network-types-on-your-miui-phones.html

I'm gonna guess that this works best for T-Mobile US:
T-Mobile US: GSM/WCDMA/LTE
The TD-Prefix ones seem exclusively for china.
I just set mine to Global.

After researching yes i agree this is best settings i guess
What about for sprint? I broke phone calls completely by changing the setting in the menu (*#*#4636#*#*). I changed the setting in that menu to try and get better coverage and it broke phone calls... Called sprint they didnt even know about that code/menu. I did a factory reset and still no phone calls... Data/messaging still worked. Gonna call sprint again...
I think sprint does evdo D, but I know they are cdma for sure.
try cdma+LTE/Evdo ?
in general , global seems to be the best bet though.
I had AT&T LTE+ on Android Pie, but none of the options were checked.
I checked Global and my LTE+ disappeared...none of the other options brought LTE+ back. just plain old LTE
I'm with T-Mobile and the default setting: LTE/WCDMA working fantastic for me. I get LTE+ signal most of the time, but locations maybe vary with different results.
I uses Global. It works for USmobile.
Just got a brand new Mi A1 and can only get it to connect to 3G network. I'm in the US on Cricket, but I can't seem to get an LTE connection. My other Nexus 6 is on LTE right next to the A1, but the A1 will only go 3G. Does something need to be enabled on the phone to connect to LTE?

Dial *#*#4636#*#* in dialer
Go to phone information
Then scroll down to "set preferred network type"
And chose "lte only" from there
Wait for few mins to get signal
If u get signal than cool but if not than switch it back to "lte/wcdam" to keep using 3g
And then probably mi a1 doesn't support lte bands of cricket
Looks like I may be out of luck. I can't post links yet, but if you check frequencycheck.com for Cricket and the Mi A1, looks like I may get 50% of the LTE bands at best. Guess this guy is going up on ebay.

Yes, any time I restrict the phone to just LTE, it doesn't get any signal.
I had the same issue here in Germany, setup your apn manually and you're good.

APN settings are already exactly what Cricket specifies in their support pages.
I have Cricket in Chicagoland area and get 4G most places.

This issue has been reported numerous times with the Oreo update, suggestions are to use the hidden svc menu to change settings, but reports say that the menu is not accessible. So your going to have to wait for the carrier to fix it. Or depending on your variant downgrade and go back to nougat

I updated my lg ls997 (sprint variant if v20) to oreo, then when I tapped on mobile networks I found (null) value... Then easily changed it to CDMA and it works now.
