I just returned my N1 that i paid full price for.. my screen had 3 scratches as well as some on my camera lense
so i decided i would take the loss and later down the line maybe purchase the bravo or another N1 depending on how i like the bravo.. for now im stuck with my G1 with a cracked screen.. id use that any day over my iPhone 3g..
anyone else return theirs?
Huh? You returned it because you scratched the screen and camera lens? Why?
not just because of the scratches.. i had the 3g issue and a little dust.. i heard about many people having problems getting their warranty replacements, receiving phones in worse condition than the one they had and whatnot. so i just decided to return it . im kind of happy now because i can wait for the Bravo and maybe the HD2 hopefully without the strict subsidy policy
Ah, ok, the HD2 is a beast and should have a better subsidy policy since T-Mobile will be selling it directly, and they will be doing the same with the Bravo(if the rumors are true they are getting it).
(Sorry if anyone's heard me say this before)
If you read here, and a lot of support forums, you're going to hear mainly about people with faulty N1s. Many of us have phones that work perfectly. There was a poll up briefly about the dust and something like 31 had no problems, while 3 had clicking and 8 had dust (And this, given that the title of the poll probably attracted people with clicking or dust).
So, just a reminder that the majority of N1s are in great shape. Furthermore, this seems (to me) to be the most resilient piece of portable electonics since the Game Boy Color. I have never used a case, and only used a screen protector for the first few days, and the phone still looks like it just came out of the box. No smudges or scratches to be found.

Couldn't agree more.
Mine's in perfect condition too, or at least there isn't any fault that I can identify yet. Plus my phone held on to 3G signals better than my wife's iPhone 3GS (same starhub network).
Mine went from US to UK and from UK to Portugal and I don't have any problems with it, I'm loving the phone btw

You really need to take better care of your phones. 3 scratches on the gorilla glass in under 2 weeks? A cracked screen on the G1 I could understand after a year, accidents happen. Still I see a pattern here.

Hi
Can I ask where you bought it and if it was eBay who was the seller?

I'll admit that this also crossed my mind the first time I read this thread.
Did you return the phone because of the scratches or some other issue? Will they even take the phone back with scratches?
I will probably return my phone next week. I had it then for three weeks. I have the 3G issue and the touchscreen issue as well. I am really disappointed because of the lack of response from Google and HTC. I don't want a replacement because if you look at the poll 40% of the phones seemd to be broken. You get a refurbished one as a replacement so it is really likely that you get anoter lemon. How can they refurbish phones if they don't even know if it is a hardware or software problem?

i babied the phone, kept it in a separate pocket than my keys for the most part.. and 3 hairline scratches in 15 days was ridiculous .. no idea how it happened
i returned it partially how easily scratched, 3g issue, dust, warranty problem with unlocking the bootloader , and also the hopes of a better/cheaper phone coming out soon subsidized by T-Mobile.. the N1 is an amazing phone.. but because of how new it is i think it would be better if i just waited a little bit.. i am still waiting to get the conformation from HTC on if they will accept it in its current condition.. its really not that bad they probably wont even notice it
Just wondering, those of you planning on returning it after the 14 day return policy window, how are you going about that? Do you live in California or is HTC/Google cutting you slack because it has issues?

Has anyone confirmed that this has gorilla glass from an official source? I've seen a lot of conjecture - mostly from people referencing the "scratch test" video - but no official word from anyone involved in the manufacture or teardown of the phone confirming the gorilla glass part...
i dont think it's gorilla glass.. i had iphone 3g for 1 and half years and had no scratch at all.. my N1 i had taken good care and never dropped once! but somehow i got 1 hairline scratch.. don't really trust that video..
N1 screen will scratch and i am thinking of returning it too.. the build quality seems to be not good

Lol, people...
I have the 3G issues And touch screen issues.. I have a SMALL piece of lint that seems to have found it's way into the phone and is about to get onto the screen... for now it's just to the side of the screen but visible.
Coming from a iPhone 3G I simply can't type even near as close to as fast on this phone and my god does that annoy me! When I type fast the keyboard does all kinds of crazy **** and I get so frustrated... if I go slow and use a more pressure so more of my finger hits each key it's fine... but I'm typing way slow then and it's just not worth it.
Another thing, I require good Microsoft Exchange support... I can get around not having direct calendar support, but the fact that forwarded emails show up as attachments pisses me off to... I'm close to sending this sucker back (I'm in CA and have up to 30days)... soooo frustrating.

Check out TouchDown for you exchange support, it is brilliant! It is well worth the money, but if you really don't want to pay for it, it has a 5 day trial, and you can re-use that trial as many times as you want, you just have to set it back up again.
For texting, try out the voice-to-text software, really good! As well, if you keep it and root, you can get some much better keyboards really easily, and I want to say even without root you can get the some of them(not sure what is currently available for keyboards, haven't looked into it much yet).
Of course, if the phone isn't your cup of tea, it isn't your cup of tea.
This past weekend I had to go through horrifying experience having to deal my nexus 7's screen cracking. Long story short, my girlfriend, younger brother and I were hanging out in my room, I had left my nexus 7 on the left side of my bed and got up to get something in my room, mean while, my obvious younger brother decided it would be a good idea to sit exactly where I had left my nexus 7...if only he had stayed in the chair that was in my room. Well, my nexus 7 happened to be facing front side up and when he sat on my beautiful tablet, the screen cracked... the 50 dollars Gumdrop Drop Tech Series Case I had invested in proved to be no match to his rear end.
I sat there quite silent for a couple minutes, no words to say, it was just as time itself had paused to morn for my loss. Well anyhow, I ordered a brand spanking new 32GB nexus 7 last night and I'm expecting it to arrive tomorrow . I was fiddling around with my nexus 7 and I managed to enable "show touches" in the developer options by attaching a mouse to my device. I noticed that top left corner of the screen gave touch feed back.
My question is why the small portion of the touch screen responds to touch when the majority of the screen doesn't, this anomaly (from reading various forum posts, the nexus 7 screen isn't suppose to respond to touch once the screen is cracked) leaves me pondering if there was something I could do to make the other portion of the screen to work. I was originally looking into screen replacement options, but from what I read and saw first hand, it's better to buy a whole new unit (like I had mentioned I had done in the earlier text) than to purchase a brand new digitizer. The other option would be to find a bricked nexus 7 on the internet and salvage the screen, and trying to find a low priced bricked nexus 7 on the internet is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack.
Now, I'm a college student (majoring in Computer Networking System Administrations ) and blew 3/4 of my savings for a new unit (I'm poor!). If there is no financially feasible method for replacing the screen enabling being able sell the device for higher price, how much do you folks think I could sell it for? Keep in mind, my cracked nexus 7 is 16GB model and is unlocked (rooted) and is in pretty the good shape despite the cracked screen, the actual display has not been damaged, it's just touch digitizer that is not working properly.
Thanks for reading my lengthy post/ramble
So I take it your brother who broke it won't be compensating you for breaking your tablet? I would be pissed, he should at least pay for some of the cost of the replacement.

Well he's actually going compensate me with 50 bucks so that's nice.
Hi, I have exactly the same problem and had the same idea. If i can calibrate the digitizer to exactly 50% of the original dimensions I could use the working area of the screen to operate the device. Did you find a way to do this?

no offence intended but anyone who breaks my tablet, family or not would be compensating me 100% plus a srry beer thrown in.
Ok it a company says they stand by their product, I think they should mean it. Take for example. when HTC release the One M8 they said that they stood by their product and put there money where their mouth was by offering a free 6 month screen replacement program to go along with the phone.
With the Nexus 6 and all their other phones, Motorola says that they "stand by their product" but what I just learned is that they only stand by their product if you PAY them to do so. The Nexus 6 is a very large phone sporting a 5.9" screen. And given it's size and weight, I believe that Motorola choose to skip a few corner when it came to the screen construction, resulting in a screen as shatter resistant as the iPhone 4.
Note to Motorola, if you are going to say that you stand by your product, then STAND BY YOU PRODUCT if not, then shut the heck up. I will keep this crack phone, which cracked by falling between my car seat without any scratch on its body , (only because i have no other phone) but as soon as HTC release a new phone with Android 5.0 I'm switching company, and sticking with the company that actually knows what it means to stand by their product.
You know I was kind of thinking about this when I bought the Motorola Nexus 6. I thought to myself man why don't they offer something like HTC does with the cracked screens. The screens don't cost that much and not many people are going to break them compared to the amount of phones they're going to sell.
I broke the screen on my Galaxy S2 couple years back I took it in to sprint to see how much it was going to cost to get fixed and they did it for free because so many of the screens were breaking. I didn't have to pay for the warranty claim, they didn't even do it as a warranty claim they just did it because so many of the screens were breaking.
To be completely honest I probably would have gotten the Samsung Note 4 over the Nexus 6 just because of their good track record with current screens but I really wanted a pure Nexus experience.
I really hope that I don't become disappointed with this phone.
Being that it is the new Nexus phone though I'm sure we'll see replacement glass on eBay for like $10~20.00 within a couple of months. You always do for the Samsung phones. In fact I just replace the glass on my friends s5, it was $12.00 shipped for the glass, we bought 2 he got a spare!

If my screen were to crack, I'd have to go through T-Mobile's insurance. I'm not sure how good it is. Thanks for making me worry!

I'm with T-Mobile, and it cost $175 and they send you a "used" replacement phone.
Im sure the phone will be fine, so long as you have it in a case, and dont drop it face down on the screen.

Unfortunately, the screen for the nexus 6 is not cheap to make ifixit did the tear down on it and the display and the digitizer is fused together so that will drive up the cost. The overall experience of the phone is great it just becomes apparently that there wasn't a lot of money going to the construction of the phone exterior. But if you haven't brought this phone yet I recommend going with the Note 4 because of Samsung success with the Note series.
This was Motorola first phablet and they just did not know how to make a sturdy one.
They all use gorilla glass 3. How is it motorola's fault you broke your screen. It's always someone else's fault.

Yes but again, different phone have different thickness of GG, given the larger screen size, the GG on the N6 is thinner than say the Droid Turbo in order to compensate for the phones' weight, width, and height.
The extra thinnest and the curve edges of the screen equates to a weaker constructed screen.

you have no proof of that, and it sounds like you're just blaming others for your problems.
4 years with a large screen smartphone and i've still never dropped any of mine. that's your issue, not the manufacturers.
If this were a major issue wouldn't we be hearing about it all over?
Sorry about your phone, but sometimes you can just be unlucky
If purchased from t mobile, you do get 1 year manufacturer warranty
Was your phone wearing protection like a screen protector or case and if so was it the glass protector cause I slapped that on right away and have had a few drops already with no damage ever since my unprotected nexus 7 drop and cracking the. Screen I'm all for protection ?

Its not a major issue so long as you dont drop it. The issue is the fact that its much more likely to break compared to other phones release this year or even last year.

Take better care of your phone. Of the six devices I've had, I was unlucky enough to break exactly one screen, on my Droid DNA. Guess what? My fault. I then proceeded to pay to have it fixed myself. It was my responsibility to take care of my phone, not HTC's. I blamed myself. Do you see a pattern here?

I don't know how many of you play the stocks, but there were tons of videos out about sapphire vs gorilla glass when I was investing in GTAT pre them going to OTC.
Anyways, all the guys saying they have dropped their phone prior, all I can say is that is how it starts. Even though you do not notice the crack, it creates mini fractures/fissures in the glass that when dropped again, it will cause it to crack.
Additionally, the construction of can cause an impact on whether or not the glass fractures as easily too. Think of cars with a sunroof.
If screens are breaking at a high frequency, usually it deals with the manufacturer's bad construction.

Congratulation on being Mr. Responsible I guess, I mean your parents must be so proud...First of all guy when I had my Thunderbolt and I was out for a run and it flew out my hand and the screen shattered 9 ways to hell and back, did I blame HTC? no I didn't because that was my fault. I got a new phone....but when I am driving in my car and my phone slide out my pocket and down the side of my car seat and cracks...btw this is something that has happen with my previous phones including my Thunderbolt and I've never had an issue.....well in that case it is clearly shoddy workmanship or like @uhguy said, a freak accident. But its nice to know how responsible you are, really it is, we need more people like you in the world.

After a few serious issues occurring with my Note 4, i just finished a claim with Assurion and after some back and forth, they offered me the V20 at my request. They couldnt guarantee that it would be brand new or refurbished but it still came with a 1 year warranty.
Im surprised that Assurion stepped up and gave me the phone i wanted. Friggin AT&T just wanted to sell me a new Next 24 or 30 month plan for more than i was paying a month for my note 4. So for $112 deductible Assurion is sending me the V20 and ill continue paying off my old Next 28 plan for the remaining 10 months.
Dam note 4 kept shutting off at 35% battery level ever since the Marshmallow update, screen burn in from extended GPS use, GPS not getting a fix intermittently and the screen separating from one side of the phone (looks heat related to me, as the phone would get pretty dam hot when sitting in the cradle on my dash).
Had the phone for a little over a year and all was fine until the Marshmallow update, then within the last month or so, i noticed these other issues.
Im hoping that i wont miss the S pen much. Only used it to write on pictures once in a great while and hopefully a wireless charging cover will become available.
Any other Note 4 users who made the switch, happy with your V20?
I had a note 4 before my s7 and now have a v20 and honestly the v20 is awesome. much better than both. much faster. no touchwiz lag which idc what people say, is very present on the Verizon s7. either way, it's a really fast phone with a great camera. you'll like it.

Thanks i was reading another thread where someone was complaining about using it in landscape mode while driving and having part of the screen cut off. Have you seen this and are you able to see the dialer when using the phone in landscape mode?
I still have my rooted and tmobile activated n4 and runs strong.
I got v20 and can't live without root. Rooted yesterday, got few apps and runs really fast. Still havent activated yet.
I wish we have good debloaded deodex ROM and working xposed.
It's a tottaly different phone than n4. I have to used to power button at the back. Also one thing buther me I can use kodi in multiwindow view (kodi on the top and browser at the buttom) to fully utilize my screen. Other than that is awesome phone.
Sorry for my EN.
I switched from the Note 4 to the V20. I really really like the V20. The second screen is my favorite thing.
The LCD is fine except the backlight night time use slightly annoys me. However if I am in a room with some external light then the LCD backlight isn't noticeable.

I made a GPS fix in the galaxy note 4 thread. The pins arent making good contact anymore or are oxidized too much. I'm keeping the note 4 for s pen and the camera, when handy. Prefer note4 pics in auto mode for micro detail at work.
I had a Note Edge which I loved. I especially liked the rounded Edge display with lots of apps and notifications on it. Also liked jotting notes with the stylus. I had the Note 7 briefly and didn't like the aspect ratio of it. Felt too tall and skinny to me. I'm very happy with the V20. The 2nd screen on top pretty much does what the rounded Edge display did. The only thing I miss from the Note Edge is the stylus.
I switched from the Note 7. Actually I like the V20 better than the Note 7. Hard to believe but true. It's an awesome phone that will do everything a Note will and more
So I made the mistake of trying to replace the charging port on my S5 myself, and when I put everything back together, the screen is unresponsive. Shoulda just stuck with backup batteries.
Anyway, now I'm debating paying $150 to fix the screen or biting the bullet and getting an S7 on eBay for ~$350. Since I'm really only looking for stock/debloated, which I can get on the S7, I feel like I'm only losing removable batteries (which sucks), but getting a better... everything else... for about $200 more than I'd have to pay anyway to fix my S5.
Is there anything eke I'm not thinking of that I'm gonna lose coming to the S7? Any issues I should check buying on eBay? (Like if it's already on Nougat, problems rooting). And... are you liking the upgrade?
Looking for opinions/suggestions.
Thanks!

I upgraded from the S5, the one that was able to have the bootloader unlocked through that exploit found about a year ago.
I have the edge version since the battery life was much bigger. I think the stock S5 battery was 2800mah and the S7's is 3000mah while the S7 edge is 3600mah. That was my biggest decision maker right there.
I miss the ability of using a good tempered glass screen protector (since I have the edge) and the IR blaster but other than that this phone is worth the upgrade.
I had root and Xposed but now I'm running 100% stock. Took me a while to get used to but root in my opinion wasn't worth it for the lag and loss of battery life.
It's nice to have wireless charging built right in instead of a new back cover or chip you had to place inside of the phone. I actually bought a 3D printer just to make a case that would fit with the wireless charging cover and now it just collects dust.
Just out of curiosity, how is the screen unresponsive? Does it turn on at all? Or does the touchscreen just not work?
Hey @Outbreak444 - thanks for responding.
Yeah, I was thinking about the Edge for that very reason. Battery life isn't really an issue on a day to day basis, but on trips, it's huge for me.
I went to the Super Bowl a few years back, and people were cramming around any outlet they could find to get their phones juiced - we ended up not seeing some friends for hours after the game because their phones were dead. I've been at all day tailgating for night time college games and watched the same thing. And golf trips - using GPS on the phone, and then wanting to go out boozing after a round? Nightmare for some guys - I pop in a new battery and I'm good to go. So I'm having a hard time convincing myself to drop that feature alone.
I've done some Xposed stuff in the past, but I'm at the point now of just wanting debloated stock, which I've had with little to no lag, and pretty decent battery life (which again, isn't too big an issue with extra batteries.)
Oh, and the screen does come on and looks fine, but all I can see is my lockscreen - can't even type in my security pin. Completely unresponsive to touch. If you've ever opened one or seen a video of someone doing it, I know I knicked the ribbon in the top right corner that connects the screen to the motherboard - like seriously, a couple mm tear = screen dead. I guess Samsung really didn't want me in there - it's like 1mm from the edge of the screen - way too easy to hit.
I'm also wondering why the price on the S7s have dropped this fast - even with the S8 coming soon, I thought they'd still be upwards of $450-$500. Low demand from the Note debacle?
So I'm still wondering, other than a better camera and better internals, what features would entice me to step-up. I kinda feel like phones have gotten to the point of computers - as long as you've got a fast internet speed, incremental processing power in the device is getting less and less important.
