Have to restart phone to charge it - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I have a T-Mobile S8 on the most recent stock firmware, unrooted. A week or so ago, I started getting a system notification on USB options, with Use USB For. It seems to default to Charge Connected Device. At the same time, when I plug my phone in to the original Samsung USB charger, or connect it to any other charging device,it doesn't charge. I have to restart my phone, then it will charge.
I just finished a hard reset and nothing changed. Developer mode was setup before I hard reset the phone and is not now after the reset.
Any ideas?

Hi there i have just started to have the same issue, did you manage to fix this, if so how?

[Q] Not powering on - please help

Omnia 7 with Mango RTM officially installed, working perfectly was recently let to sit idle while I was using my Focus, and the battery drained over time.
Today, I wanted to charge it, but plugging in the USB did not power the phone on. I even changed cables, and also used my PC to charge it - but for the life of me, it wouldn't turn on. I even let it sit with the charging cable in it for a while.
I also took the battery out and only plugged the cable, still nothing.
Is the phone dead? Can anything be done to revive it - it was a flawless phone and there were no issues as such. I would appreciate any help.
Update: I plugged in the USB jig which powered the phone on, but now it's in the download mode. Powering it down and and trying to restart it again I am hitting a dead end. It's not powering on. Anyway to restart the phone without removing battery?
Update 2: I remembered from the past trying to update the ROM, that it fails and restarts the phone. So, while in the download mode, I started the ROM updater from Samsung and ran through the normal update process. It failed and restarted the phone - now I see a big white battery charging icon on the front screen. So hopefully this will be ok - and I will update the progress.
But this is quite disturbing as to what steps I had to take to power it on. Imagine if I didn't have the USB jig.
Update 3: After showing the battery icon for about 5-10 minutes, the phone restarted itself and booted normally. It's now charging and hopefully all will be ok. I'll make sure I don't let the battery die again.

S5 Strange USB/Power Issues

The other morning I woke up and my phone would not turn on after being on the charger overnight on the night stand.
I removed the battery, power drained the device and still the device would not post.
So I grabbed my spare battery and tried that, still no post.
I plugged in my device and noticed the charging light was not coming on, so i tried a different adapter and yet again no change.
I disassembled the phone and swapped out the USB flex cable with a new one, still no change.
So I plugged the device into my computer and I received a battery gray battery image that flashes away almost immediately.
I unplugged the phone held the power button down and plugged the phone back in. I received the Samsung writing with the model number but the device just goes back to the grey battery and flash away,
I attempted to boot the device to recovery mode but it just loops back to the grey battery,
I had then decided to try download mode with odin and restore the stock ROM. I can get the device into download mode but no computer recognizes the device in device manager or odin.
I have removed and re-installed the battery while in download mode and any computer will still not recognize the device.
I noticed one strange thing. If i remove the USB cable from the phone while it is plugged in the phone powers off and will not turn on until it is plugged into a power source.
It is almost as if the phone does not recognize that the battery is even plugged in!
If anyone has any ideas or could possibly point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks guys in advanced if anyone can offer any information on this issue!
Also, the phone is out of warranty!

[ISSUE] Device not charging since Nougat update

Hi, just got my new Nexus 6P right out of the box, charged it and set it up.
I had some OTA updates waiting to be installed and 1 of them was upgrading to Nougat.
Since the update I'm having SERIOUS trouble when it comes to charging my phone.
No wall charger works, tried plugging it into the PC, charges for about 30 seconds and stops.
Tried charging via a power bank, worked for about a minute or two and I'm back to square one.
Battery continues draining in the meantime. I'm feeling pretty helpless and hope some of you have more experience to troubleshoot that issue.
Things I tried -
1. Restart
2. Clearing cache
3. Factory reset (Unfortunately, still nougat)
I did think about flashing the previous rom but I can't connect it to the PC and I'm at about 10%.
Would REALLY appreciate any help.
Thank you,
B1T3X.

check if your PC recognize it when it is on fastboot mode or recovery mode
then try to flash new factory image

Device won't charge.

Hey there,
My Dad got a Galaxy S5 some time ago and cannot afford to upgrade. The phone recently stopped charging all together. When plugged in and powered on it doesn't respond to the charger, at all. When powered off and plugged in it loops the grey battery logo.
However if you boot download mode and remove the battery whilest leaving the phone plugged in, it stays on and functional. I even completed a full Odin flash back to stock without the battery in the phone for the entire process.
My dad claims he got a virus, but I factory data reset the device and flashed the latest update via Odin, and it still will not charge.
If anyone has any idea on what the issue may be, it would be appreciated. Prefreably as-fast-as-possible. He runs a business, and cannot answer calls for it without this phone.
Thanks.

Mobile only boots and battery only charge when previously connected

Hi all.
I have this Moto X Play XT1563 which was stopped for about 2 years because the battery was faulty (phone got to 30% and phone would turn off)
This week I purchased a new battery (not sure if original though) and did the replacement. Everything went well, I plugged the mobile in, the phone booted, awesome.
After that, here's what I know:
- When I unplug the mobile from charger and plug again PHONE WONT CHARGE
- When I turn off the phone and tries to turn on without the charger PHONE WONT TURN ON
- While the phone is off, I plug the charger PHONE CHARGES
- When the phone is plugged in, I try to turn it on and PHONE TURNS ON
Apparently the phone will only turn on and charge if it is previously off and connected to power source.
I already did a factory reset, hard reset, re flashed a new firmware (7.1.1), tried a custom firmware (Pixel DarkOs v15.1). Nothing worked.
Any ideas?
Hey Guys.
Does anyone have any idea?
