S8 Showing 16gb capacity only after flashing stock rom - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi
i recently started tweaking my phone by installing note 8 ported apps which messed up touchwiz home. so i had to re install stock rom by ODIN.
after flashing the device internal memory shows as 16 gb only.

hey there to root your Note 4 smn910f you first go to settings/security and then you will see a V behind reactivation deactivate this
after that's done connect to odin and flash cf root
you will see that it will not fail
i dont want to root yet i just want to change official rom and i can't flash via odin
it says when odin write hidden.img.ext4 volume size is too big 81920<184320
Can I ask which firmware you are trying to flash? Is it for the 910f if it's for a different variant that will probably be why
I have the German and I want to flash the Greek I downloaded them from sam mobile for the n910f
just came across the same issue something is messed with hidden partition image size, the default partition size is smaller whereas the the img file on the odin file is much bigger

Got the same problem today, cant flash any rom other than the latest UK (BTU) When trying to flash any other rom I get this message. Any idea how to fix it?
Some serious problem with Odin flashing the n910f. I have just gone through a night of torment, having tried flashing the newest firmware and getting a failure due to the hidden partition problem mentioned above.
Originally, my firmware was on n910fxxu1anj4. I flashed n910fxxu1ank6, the flash failed on flashing the hidden partition with:
Volume Size is too big 81920 < 204800
ODIN: Invalid ext4 image
and the phone was stuck in a bootloop on the first screen with the text “Note 4”.
Then even with wipe, restore of backup etc the phone wouldn't boot.
Flashed n910fxxu1ank5, same failure, didn't record the numbers, couldn't get it to boot in no way...
Flashed the original n910fxxu1anj4, flash failed also on the hidden partition with:
Volume Size is too big 81920 < 471040
Stuck in bootloop, but upon reflash of CWM recovery and cache and data clean, the phone booted, and I was able to restore a backup which works fine now...
However there must be some serious problem.
Anyone have an idea what this is?

I think we need a correct PIT file for each firmware maybe ?

From what I have gathered on some of the models is that the only firmware that you can flash to your phone are the ones made for the CSC of your phone. Navigate to system/csc then look at the different CSC files in that folder. Those are the only ones I can flash on my H model anyways.

I had Swedish firmware with CSC NEE and could flash a firmware with CSC BTU. But I cant flash back the NEE firmware again. And looking at the hidden.img.ext4 and cache.img.ext4 in the only firmware I can flash it has the smallest. All the other firmwares have bigger hidden and cache files. So I think the phone needs to flashed with re-partition checked in Odin and that is not possible without the correct PIT file. I am relly tired of this phone, Samsung has made it too complicated to flash firmwares

Have you tried using Kies to do a firmware upgrade and initialization? When you plug your phone in Kies may warn you that it doesn't support your phone but you can still do it. You may be better off just leaving it alone though.

Yes tried that but with no luck, seems I am stuck with my BTU firmware. It gets the same error message on the phone "size is too big" and got a new error message on the phone [99] eMMC write fail: HIDDEN
Guys I tried flash latest Sweden and have same problem size too big and ext4 failed, then I flash Philz recovery and voila phone booted everything its ok!!!

What was your original software? Could root have messed this up? Before rooting I flashed the BTU and DBT and NEE firmwares without problem. But then staying at BTU for some weeks and then rooted. And after that I can flash no other firmware. Trying to restore the phone to the NEE firmware as I am going to sell the phone.
Any more input on this? I did the same as Ogy77 and sure the phone boots but I got some strange crashes and did a factory reset and flashed back the stock recovery. So it boots but the CSC is gone as the cache.img.ext not is flashed so no OTAs will work as Kies does not regonize the phone with a firmware witout CSC?
I have the same problem, Im using xnote as i cant flash my vodafone UK stock rom

I have same problem. I have a open 910F and get the same error on odin file size is too big. What can i do?

emotion revolution on note 4

Hi,
I want to install emotion revolution and I have some questions:
- I have a SM-N910F with android 5.1.1 and baseband N910FXXU1COH4 Kernel 3.10.89-emotion-TW-5.1.1-nigltly-r21 . TWRP is installed and device is rooted. Can I directly flash or should I flash modem or bootloader first?
- Is the note 5 port release also working or note 4 or is there a specific one (didn't find anything)
Sorry if my questions are stupid, I'm a little bit lost with the version numbers COI4 COH4...
thanks
in advance

firmware version numbers are really simple.
the higher the letter in the alphabet, the newer the version.
that's all there is to it.
so COI is newer than COH.
the Emotion rom topic should have a clear explanation of how to flash it all though.
i think they even added the bootloader and modem that you need.
and a note 5 port...of course that works on a note 4, that's why it's called a port

1. You must update BL and Modem, else it won't work. Both are available on their homepage, and they're the same as for Emotion Revolution r10.1
2. The Note 5 port is working on the N910F. Be aware though that the Note 5 port "features" stock Samsung colours, i.e. it's plain ugly (IMHO ). That's what's keeping me from flashing it atm. Emotion Revolution r10.1 has a more stock Android colour scheme (e.g. b/w toggles), which I find much more pleasant to the eyes than Touchwiz turquoise. But unlike r10.1, the Note 5 port has a working Theme Store (should have at least), so it's probably possible to theme the ROM to your liking.
Hi, I tried to flash modem and bl with the files on the site. I ended with an unknown baseband and the Phone powering off after 2 minutes... I used odin and put the bl file in the bl section and the cp file un the ap section and clicked start. Is this wrong?
I flashed a stock rom to get the Phone working Alain.

Hard to tell. I'd try this:
1. Flash BL and modem via Odin
2. Boot into recovery (TWRP 2.8.7.0)
3. Wipe /dalvik cache, /data, /system, /cache
4. Flash Emotion rom.
If that fails, download a COI3 stock rom from SamMobile, flash it via Odin, then try again.
Ah, the sweet moment when your phone finally boots up and runs. I can't tell how many times im the past years I believed I had murdered my phone.

Hi,
thanks for the reply. I also installed phone info. After the flash from modem and boot loader, phone info displays the new BL but an empty CP...
I also tryed to flash the COI3 modem and bootloader found on alexndr ROM but with the same result
Do you think it is because I flashed COI3 Modem on a COH4 firmware? This means that flashing emotion will "repair" it?
COI3 Firmware is not availlable for Switzerland for the moment...

Flashing a custom rom won't repair your modem. You can try, of course, but I doubt that will fix it. If nothing helps, you can start from scratch, flash the older OH4 firmware with Odin, make sure everything's working, then update BL and Modem, and flash Emotion rom. I hope you've made a backup of all your stuff?

Firmware - HOME_CSC - Odin 3.10.7

How to flash the firmware (5 files in archive) to your s7edge?
AP, CP & BL I understand, but the 2 CSC-files...?
CSC -> there's a PIT inside and will wipe your device
HOME_CSC -> the data should stay on your device
Today I tried to update with HOME_CSC, everything was OK, but at the end Odin 3.10.7 FROZE at "meta-data" (this folder is in the HOME_CSC file): nothing happened anymore and I had to pull the cable
Smart Switch didn't recognize my S7edge anymore for the "Emergency Firmware Repair"!
Luckely, Odin did recognize my device and could install the firmware with the "normal" CSC-file and afterwards my device was reset...
I hope someone has a solution on this, because I don't want to install everytime again and again...

Well, the flash went just fine. No problems except the device reset at factory settings. As brand new one....
But of course I would like to know how to flash without resetting the device.
I had the same problem yesterday when used Home_CSC... flashed again with normal CSC and went back to normal with a formated user data
We really need a solution to that... What would happen if we skipped the CSC file when flashing thru ODIN?
Flashing with CSC and not home_CSC will also reset your CSC.
Eg: I was on VODAFONE Romania and flashed stock unbranded using CSC. The result was I lost my ROM (from Romania) CSC, and defaulted to XEO from the multi CSC.
In this situation you cannot go back to your original CSC even after flashing using Smart Switch.
Rooting is the only option then and that will trip Knox.

anybody figured this out?
Just had the same problem flashing with HOME_CSC it got stuck in ODIN and had to pull the cable.
Had to turn off phone and boot again in download mode to flash again with a straight CSC.

CSC contains an instruction that allow Odin to wipe the DATA
Code:
--update_package=CACHE:recovery/sec_csc.zip
--carry_out=csc_factory
--wipe_data
HOME_CSC contains instruction only to allow wipe of cache BUT the original HOME_CSC can cause Odin to freeze at the end of the flashing process.
Code:
--update_package=CACHE:recovery/sec_csc.zip
--carry_out=csc_home
--wipe_cache
That's why you need to modify the HOME_CSC using the CYGWIN tool.
Just dont flash the home csc. I never did it. Everything work greats.

HOME_CSC is supported on Odin version 3.11 or later. It's okay to flash it now.
Sorry to revive this thread but when a downgrade is done from Nougat back to Marshmallow a factory reset via recovery must be required if flashing HOME_CSC. Otherwise just use normal CSC on downgrade.
thank you

Didn't he already answer that question?
Home_CSC: Flash the firmware without wiping the data (if you just want to update the ROM)
CSC: Flash the firmware along with a complete wipe including data (mostly used in cases like bricked phones or Go-Back-To-Stock situations)
I always backup data and do a clean install with CSC ! Its recommended.
When I wanted to swap the firmware from (V) Verizon to (U) Unlocked, I had to use CSC simple, the Home_CSC gave an error. So I assumed the existing data cannot be "saved" when firmware are of different types.
I have asked about this and I wasn't that lucky to get an answer, so I just tried it (trial and error).
However, I think the data wipe is just a side-effect, not the purpose of CSC. Changing the CSC will always wipe data, including any custom software from the previous carrier:
https://productioncommunity.publicm...ung-Phone-Info/m-p/53208/highlight/true#M6228
In my case the original Home_CSC, had only VZW (Verizon) code available. The new unlocked firmware brought in 15 different CSC codes that can be applied when a SIM from one of those providers is introduced in the phone. Phone INFO shows those codes.
@NaJeEb303 He did answer, but he didn't make it clear. Only after knowing the answer I can understand what he meant. So thanks to you for clarifying.

Brother when you are flashing firmware with same csc as your previous firmware then you can use Home_csc and if you are flashing different csc firmware then you have to use file which starts with csc. You will lose data when not using home_csc because it contains different partition information and flashing this will delete you previous partition resulting loss of data but a successful flashing if you are stuck with home_csc. Hope you got your answer.
where do i find the HOME_CSC file?
Hey all,
i just used Odin3-v3.13.1 to upgrade from:
G935FXXU2EREM - GALAXY S7 EDGE SM-G935F DBT GERMANY
to:
G935FXXU2ERG2 - GALAXY S7 EDGE SM-G935F DBT GERMANY
First i selected all AP, BL, CP and HOME_CSC and started flasching. At the very last step (think it was the csc part) it failed.
The Phone said i thould have to use SmartSwitch to get Recovery. So i just opened odin again and just selected AP, BL and CP no csc this time.
That worked. Phone booted, did a bit upgrading and optimizing and now iam on 01.July upgraded. All fine!
But now iam really confused about csc in general.. what is it doing? And is it safe to just leave any csc file empty in odin when doing an upgrade?
No idea? Maybe i should better start a new fred for that
how can i get home_csc for samsung note 3 n900? thanks
How to modify CSC to prevent wipe of my files?
Hello!
How to wipe android OS, but keep my files, like documents, pictures, audio and video in SAMSUNG SM-N9005 memory? 'Android system' package was disabled in 'packagedisabler pro', and now SM-N9005 sticks during booting with animated SAMSUNG logo. Flashing with HOME firmware does not recover because it does not enable 'Android system' package.
How to modify CSC to prevent wipe of my files?
or
How to modify HOME_CSC to wipe android OS but keep my files?
Thanks!
I was answered this on Reddit
I started a thread on Reddit about how to get OTA after stock ROM flash, and the guy said that if I used the CSC file in the CSC field in Odin, I should still get OTA, so I guess it just means you would get OTAs on it. I think it depends on other factors such as build number and others too though, so I would research first.

When you brick your device it has nothing to do with Odin (use the latest version)
Make sure you install the right firmware for your device
Import the appropriate files to Odin exactly where they supposed to be
You'll have five files when unpacked downloaded package
Installing CSC will wipe your device, to avoid that you have to install HOME_CSC instead
You may also need to set a password for a secure startup as it may ask

If you want to flash different stock firmware other than your region, flash the three (BL, AP, CP ) and use your original HOME_CSC (you are aware that you have to start all over), installing your region stock firmware with HOME_CSC will not wipe your device.
If you forget password use (default_password) without the brackets but it's important to set it before and use it only if you forget
