So, I've just purchased a used Moto G4 Plus. It doesn't look it's been used at all with its accessories still in plastic actually, but I'm surprised to see that it only has 2 GB of RAM only when it's supposed to have 4 Gigs. WTH ? Has anyone heard of such specs in canada ? A "one-off" ??
Another issue I had, is that while trying to unlock the screen (swiping pattern) the phone didn't respond at all for almost 15-20 seconds. Like it froze or something.
The phone looks legit and I actually saw the receipt from the store it was purchased (in canada) with the IMEI matching the one on the phone.

On moto builder website you can choose which amount of ram and flash you want. Lots of variations of moto g4 plus are available. Search for xt1643, xt1644 and others and you will find your answers. Under the back cover you'll find your version of the phone. You should make such queries before buying something.

This was purchased (by the first owner) at a local store. I'd never heard of a Moto g4 plus with 2 gb or ram until now. It's not something I would've even thought about when I bought this phone. According to every piece of info or video I found online, this phone IS a 4 GB RAM phone. I always do a lot of researching before I buy anything but again, not even one site I came across said anything about a 2 GB ram with the G4 Plus.
Anyway, I guess it is one with less RAM. Oh well, but the thing I'm more concerned about is the freezing thing that i mentioned. I know there are a lot of people complaining about "ghosting" -whatever that is- and overheating issues but I don't recall anything about freezing issues.

Check which xt164 version is written on the label.
Mine is xt1642 which is 2gb ram with 16gb storage
OK thanks. I guess some markets have the 2 gb ram but this isn't being mentioned.
I can live with 2 gigs. Still, I'd like to know if there's any info on this freezing issue.

I'm guessing that you just didn't do your research.
It's actually very common for devices to have a few different models.

I'm trying to help you and you should not ignore my questions. You should tell us what device type you have, it's necessary for the lag issue and every further help.
XT1642 for example. What's yours?
Additional you need to tell the baseband version that is shown in about information of the device settings. And which Android version is shown there too like Android 6.0 or 7.0. Please be detailed enough or make a screenshot.
Only the 64GB version came with 4GB of RAM:

Exactly. This is the same one I have. Apparently, some countries have different models other than what all the reviews -especially in the USA- say on Youtube and some websites.
I also found this
https://phandroid.com/2016/05/23/moto-g4-plus-3gb-ram-2gb/
https://www.technobuffalo.com/2016/05/23/moto-g4-plus-ships-with-32gb-of-storage-just-2gb-of-ram/
So, according to this, the 32GB should come with 3GB, and the 16GB with 2GB.
Anyway, like I already said, I don't care any more about the size of ram. The issue I'm having is that every time I charge the phone and it reaches 100% or close, it stops responding to my touch. Like it takes several times of me swiping up -after I push the power button- to get the pattern drawing screen to unlock the phone ( I use pattern) and the same thing when I pull down the notification bar, it doesn't respond from the first time. Strangely, after a while it starts working normally.

I wasn't ignoring your question. I was planning to reply but after I replied to the other guys something came up and had to leave.
The model is the XT1641. The Android version is 7.0 and the baseband is M8952-70030.25.03.62.01R.
Yeah definitely there's something wrong with the phone. I have to swipe down over and over and over again to get the notification bar or whatever it's called. Like I pull it down but it goes right back up and I have to repeat this many times before it stays down. I might have read some comments somewhere about people having this issue. Man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Thanks for the replies.

Hi everyone,
As a 16GB DVP owner in the UK I just wanted to find out how many other UK owners were having problems with their handset.
The reason I ask is that when I was originally purchasing the phone and we had delays, I wrote an email to Michael Dell to complain and was contacted the next day by someone from his office and later on by the European Marketing manager. In an email he sent me, he asked that when the phone arrived that I let him know how I got on with it etc.
Well when it did arrive, I had the same problem many people had with the phone locking up when on wifi and downloading from the marketplace/zune. (I have noticed that the phone does not lock up on wifi when there are no apps on the phone)
Anyway, I emailed him and told him of the problems and he agreed to get another phone sent out to me.
The new phone arrived this week and as you might guess the phone has exactly the same problem.
I sent him another email yesterday and today he wrote back with the following reply.
This is absolutely terrible, and I’ve escalated to the Global Director responsible for the Venue Pro.
We will need some time to figure this out with the appropriate teams. If you can please list the apps you have downloaded then I will try and replicate personally as well.
I am so sorry and I hope we can get you a better result at the end of this process.

I have sent him a list of apps etc. of what I have on my phone and hopefully something can be done.
What I wanted to know from you UK and European DVP owners is what problems you are having and if you send me a PM I can possibly pass your details onto him
I can't promise anything, but at least it seems that we have the ear of this Dell employee and he might be able to do something about it.
I will have a word with this chap about the US DVP owners as well. I have made him aware of this Forum also.
Paul.

The response you've received is great, but, it's highly unlikely they are not aware of this issue in the US. People on this forum have been quite active in contacting them by phone, email, forums, twitter and other means. They know.
But it is still good to know that proper channels have acknowledged the issue.

I know what you are saying Alodar1, I guess my main point was that there at last seems to be someone in some sort of position that is concerned and that is listening to someone.
I have just received another message from him saying the following
Hi Paul,
Yes, I got the list of apps, thanks! Yes, I am quite concerned, and yes I do appreciate your help.
If you want to list out the main issues you find with the Venue Pro, then that is fine… I know we have worked out a bunch of them already, but we can double check.
Regarding your issue, I heard some good news yesterday, but need to confirm the details and timing.
I will ask how we can update the blogs / forums with the appropriate details.

Thanks for answer.
Mine works?
I've been following peoples problems with their DVP on here for a bit and was getting the impression it was just the early handsets that had to the problems as mine works fine? I have no wifi issues or lockups? Had the occasional freeze for a few seconds but that's happened twice in 2 months?
I updated to a 32gb card recently but the original 8gb it came with caused me no issues either - just wanted more memory to play with.
Mine was produced on 03/31/2011 according to the box so its a pretty new one... was yours before this?
Matt.

The majority of the issues are with the 16GB models and when the storage reaches more than half. Even with 32GB you might see the problem, but only when you reach close to 25GB+.
I have only filled about 3gb of the 16 and it has problems so it doesn't take much.

Hello Everyone!
I recently got a NST Glowlight from the States (I'm from Canada). I've been eyeing on this device for months now and I finally got my hands on it. I absolutely LOVE it at the moment. But I've been reading some reviews on it and they're coming back as negative.
Just a few simple questions that I would like to have answered, if anyone know any answers to them.
On the B&N site, people have been complaining about a "tear/crack" underneath the screen and the glowlight will "spill" out through these cracks. I'm quite wary about this as I use the glowlight function every night. Anyone have this happen to them? How easily/often does it occur? Can it be avoided?
I've been reading that the internal memory of this device is 2GB, 1GB is for content and the rest is for B&N stuff. I plugged in my nook and the capacity has been half filled already! So I looked and saw that my capacity is only 250MB-ish. What the heck is this?
Is this the same with everyone else? I couldn't believe that they would advertise as 2GB, and also claiming that I can use 1GB for content but all I see is 250MB. It's not a huge deal because I can always get a microSD BUT this is ridiculous.
Let me know please and thank you!

Fellow Canadian here, i've had my nook glow for a month or so, no issues. As for the crack issue? dunno, I'll worry about it if/when it happens.
As for the memory, it's advertising and depending on how you look at it, it's true advertising. The nook DOES have 2 gigs of storage, what they and no body else specify is how much of that you can actually use. You see the same trends in computer advertising and phone advertising: they advertise that laptop with a 120 gig SSD, but they don't tell you that 30 gigs of that is used by windows, or that another 10 gigs is used by pre-installed apps etc... or that 8 gig iPhone, sure it's got 8 gig, but 1 gig is used by iOS etc......
250 megs is enough for atleast 50 epub books, if you need more, as you said, use the microSD slot, atleast there is one on this device.
Hi,
another glowliht owner here, but stranded: I bricked it on day one.
Could you possibly help me and post the partition information? There' a thread here explaining all http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1805936&page=2 and another one here explaining ADB http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801574 (message 11)

thanks for the info. I just really hope this crack doesn't occur because I didn't buy the extended warranty and driving down to Buffalo (I'm from Toronto) is going to be a pain.
I understand about the memory. Just wanted to see if it's the same with everyone else, that's all =) microSD it is.
Thanks again!

Never mind, it's been solved: the partition information for the NSTG is the same as NST
I'm on my second light hole screen, replaced by B&N under extended warranty, and I DO find the light hole very distracting!
When I get my next replacement I'm going E-bay it and try a Kindle Paperwhite.
Love the ST Glow but it is obviously not ready for prime time.

As someone who just returned his 3rd with dead pixels, my only recommendation is to buy from a place that you know will let you return it.
It seems to be a random **** shoot, I see all these people reporting they have units that are good, and then there's me and the others in the dead pixel thread.
An update has already been released to fix the multitouch and GPS issue.

Like you said most issues are fixable by update which are rolling out now but depends on your preference. I was thinking the same thing but waited a month. The current hardware which is what I have rev. E, seem to be issues free. Have spoke to others both 16gb and 32gb who are so far issue free under this rev so it really just depends where you buy it if they're still on the initial stock or if they've gotten new batches. I bought mine off amazon, through amazon them selves, meaning no separate sellers on amazon and got lucky with no issues but as said under rev. E, now I'm not totally sure how true that is that's what was explained to me by someone else while we are waiting for the current update, so I guess your best bet is to talk to someone who is experiencing these issues souch as multi-touch, random reboot and GPS issues. See what rev the initial stock was. Other wise like you mention you can just wait a month or so which most issues should be ironed out by then but seems as if they're getting a good handle on that so should have to wait too long if you choose to do so.

I got you on that, haha.Normally refurbished models come problem-free,right?I am considering waiting for it,then. What do you think?Bcz its a question of importing one.
The thing about 'lots of issue' reports is that folks are bound to announce when they are upset, but majority or folks enjoying the products is keep enjoying it instead of complaining. So, it may seem like there are a lot of issues, but it actually isn't widespread in any way.
I got one and loved it, but I returned it. I didn't any issues. I returned it because I want the LTE version instead. So, if you want to hold out, do it if you want the LTE version (just $80 more than the 32GB wifi version), not if you're waffling about quality issues. But if you are concerned, by it from a brick & mortar store so you have a return window.

Oh you mean waiting for refurbished models can take longer time?

Reboot into bootloader shutdown the hold vol down+ power, the hardware rev will be toward the bottom. As I said not sure how true that is haven't checked into this my self but would be good to know.
Don't listen to people to tell you to ignore complaints. There is a 30-something page thread about dead pixels going on since launch for a reason, and another about build quality that is huge as well.
The multitouch and GPS problems have been addresses in a (timely) update.
However, if you or your friend care about dead pixels or dust under your screen, it is something that people are indeed experiencing (again - i opened a july mfg unit yesterday and it had 2 dead pixels - my 3rd nexus with dead pixels).
I think the real question here is: If your friend opened one up in India with a dead pixel, some light bleed, some dust under screen, or any other blemish, would he be able to deal with it?

Yes as mine say I booted into bootload and it says hardware rev. e, yours should show what its on I think like 3 lines down on the device info in bootloader mode near the bottom.

You are absolutely right. If its software issues like GPS and Multi-touch,it could be solved over updates but dead pixels and light bleeding can get him helpless. So its better to wait for refurbished models? If so will they come a bit late?
But are these common issues with every phone in this intensity?

Thank you so much bro and I am scared what if i encounter any hardware issues like Dead-pixels and light bleeding. And this product is getting imported and worse is it could not be accepted for return since the product is not yet launched in that imported country.

Yes forgot about the dead pixel issue, that is true but not as all have it, its pretty much rolling the dice to see if your lucky enough to get one issue free, at least at the moment. So maybe to wait would be best or even a return but the return hasn't always proven true for me. I came from the Asus transformer which was riddled with ghost touch issues, went through 3 of them just couldn't get around it whether it was a return or not.
I have not seen much about this phone. It's a cheap ( no exact price yet) small sized phone to test out tmobile's lte if you want to think about switching away from big V like me.

1.4ghz Quad core with 1GB system memory and 8GB internal storage. It also has an 1800 mah battery and microsd.

Just noticed, among the features listed on hsn.com is something called "secure boot." Why does that sound like something I don't want? And they mention it as if it's a good thing.

Now $149. I'd grab it if I could root it. Zero development on this device and this is the only thread even discussing it. Shame but not surprising. You're almost better off to get an old phone that has plenty of options than a new one with none.
Sounds very interesting. I hope it will be released in Europe soon too.
I've read that that it reaches an antutu score around ~17000+. First an only 4'' phone with a quad core at the moment.!
But, does anybody know if it has a light sensor to adjust the brightness automatically?
Lol some guy wanted to trade me the Light for my One S...
Seeing that its pretty...new and no dev'ment yet, its a no.
Thats the same exact reason I got rid of my ol Boost Mobile LG Venice.
Besides, I'm not a fan of mediocre carrier service.
It sounds appealing though, i mean 1gb ram tied in with quad core, clocked at 1.4GHz not bad.
But its using TFT screen technology sized at 4 inches, a 5mp cam and a 0.3mp front. What sort of odd combo is that?
At least they should have given it an AMOLED then maybe the miniature screen would make some sense.
If you ask me, its like a merged Galaxy Prevail and a Galaxy S. Good for those who want something cheap yet preformance
worthy (I guess) but for a quad core device, ratings for it on many review sites are depressingly low. Hey at least it
has NFC, but still all that preformance on a TFT screen will make playing games feel like your on an older device.
I think the screen alone was a let down for me.
It does not make my list, nor capture my attention. My guess is, NAY.
I just got this phone. Any clue how to root it? I don't want to brick it following the s4 method.
Does anyone know how to network unlock this phone?
I just got this phone before leaving on vacations and can't seem to find a way to network unlock it so that I can use it outside the U.S.
I have tried all popular unlocking methods for S3's and S4's but none seems to work.
There is another thread about rooting this phone, but noone has figured out how to do it, just yet. I guess the new kernel is causing some issues. Anyway, the other thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2539232 I will be picking this phone up as soon as I am able. The small size and the quad core and the speed is also what I have read. As I am not a gamer, the screen is fine. LTE and NFC are features I would use. It's like Samsung figured out that if a user isn't gaming, a big high-end screen isn't as important as speed of connectivity. The gamers have the S4. The rest of us get the Light.

There is one. Stock, but debloated and optimized. I have not tried it myself yet, as I don't have a 2nd phone in case things go awry, But it looks very promising.

He also said he's going to attempt a Cyanogenmod 11 port. And if you excuse the archaic vernacular, that would be the bees' knees.
FYI, you can get the Galaxy Light brand new from T-Mobile for $100 right now.

Mine is rooted stock and I agree, Lightwave looks nice. The price at t-mobile just came down and I suspect Samsung will be ending the Light and releasing something of lower quality. You can't beat 4 bucks a month. Snap it up while you can.

So I was going to try the LightWave ROM but I have some concerns... Is this going to lock my SIM out, and keep me from accessing my network? Because,I also do not have a second phone to goof off with this one, and if I brick (or worse, get locked out of the data network)I'm screwed. So does anyone know if this locks out T-Mobile's network? Thanks in advance!
On an irrelevant side note, if anyone is using a stock (w/root) ROM and are tired of TouchWiz, I actually figured out how to dump it! There is an app in the Google Play store called "System app remover (ROOT)" and all i did was looked for touchwiz in the app and deleted it. Sorry for rambling.

I can't guarantee you won't brick your phone. Nobody can guarantee anything when you start flashing things. Once you have TWRP though, it's really hard to screw things up irreparably.

I know Benchmarks don't say much but how does the device compare to let's say a note 3 (which I got now) and what does emui 3.0 feel like? Is it just like MIUI or looks like that but the experience is different? Just asking becouse miui is very fluent in usage. Thanks in advance.

* How does it feel? Does it feel natural at 6.1" in your hands?
* is it heavy? How does it compare to the Note 3 or other comparably-sized device?
* Does it fit in your pocket easily enough?
* Does it work well-enough with EMUI 3.0 with one-handed operations?
* I know you only just got it, but could you report back in a few days after continuous use about how the battery fares?
* Are you going to try it with a few games to see how the processor performs?
* Did you do any download/upload speed tests?
* Where are you located and were you able to activate it with no issues on your network?
* Was the device difficult to set up?
* How is the charging? Does it take a long time? This is something that hopefully you'll report back about in a few days after charging the device a few times.
In terms of your Google contacts sync issue, what exactly is the issue? You need to give more information about what is "not working" before we can offer some help. The first suggestion I'd have is to delete the google account you created on the device and recreate it.

I used OPPO N1 and Note3 last year, the weight is note3< mate7<N1, it's not bad. But holding it while laying face up is kinda hard xD hands get shot easily.
Yeah it fit my Levi's pocket pretty good.
One hand operation is okay in EMUI, if you have the xposed mod fly android installed it will be way better.
Games work fine as the GPU is pretty mainstream.
The phone I got is the CMCC version. Only works on TD LTE network in China but can be used on FDD LTE or any other 3G/4G in other country. I think if I can flash the China Unicom version's modem it could work on FDD in China to as the hardware support it. I'm planning using it in Canada on Bell. Will test it out on 22nd when I get back.
Set up? What you mean by set up?
Charging takes around 3 hours from nearly dead battery (10%-ish) to 100%. With my four ports universal charger it takes longer, maybe 5 hours but I'm not sure cuz I was sleeping

And the phone feels good, really good in hands. It feels very solid and slate. And didn't feel too huge like the OPPO N1 which is also 6 inch.
Haha thx freefrank for answering them for me. The phone itself is pretty light, feels much lighter than the Mate 2.
Well under my Google account, I see sync for everything, such as app data, calendar, email and even people. But I don't see contact there. I tried to look into the Huawei store but no luck. Freefrank are you able to get contact sync? if so did you need to do anything special? Please let me know. Is there a googlecontactsync.apk I need to install?
Is there a built-in contacts app that would work? Can you use one that comes with the device to sync your google contacts?

I found a Chinese retailer that ships to the US, the price including shipping using DHL wasn't actually bad, total shipping time was 3-5 days. Actual "wait" time was 45 days. I'm guessing they're taking pre-orders.
From everything I've read so far, this isn't due to be released until Q3 which is the only date I've seen from a lot of the press and Huawei. Does anyone have when these will be sold or at least available to be sold?
I think I'll wait until January to see if I can get a device for myself. By then software and hardware and possibly sourcing issues should be a little better.

Are you sure? All the reviews I've been reading say that the gold version is for the 32Gb version only and that the 16 comes in multiple colors. I'm not doubting you, but the Chinese retailer was only offering the gold in 32Gb. Maybe that was why it was delayed 45 days?

The only color available for the 32GB model is gold, while the 16 GB model comes in black or silver. I must add that it is in VERY limited supply right now, even the official stores don't have any yet until October at the earliest. For those that do have then in stock, only the 32GB version seems to be in stock.
When I was there I saw 4 people bought one while I was testing my unit, and before I left the store they already out of stock and had to turn people away.
