Screen cracked - Samsung Galaxy Note FE Questions & Answers

Has anyone's screen cracked by itself without dropping or knocking it .
Mine has and I'm having to claim on phone insurance within 3 days of purchase as seller says they have contacted Samsung and they say they have no issues .
Mine has cracked by the volume keys .

Terrible as phone is 3 days old

Sorry to hear, man! Mine is still pristine after buying it used, a few weeks back.

G1 warranty

I bought a G1 when it first came out from a friend. This past weekend it got ran over by a car and the screen cracked.
So...
Craigslist had a G1 for sale. He bought it 3 weeks ago and dropped it the other day. The phone will power on but the screen only shows a dim black/gray color and sometimes a line of color will show.
My question is.... if I buy the CL phone can I claim the warranty from HTC?
Not if TMO doesnt have it on record that you purchased a G1 later than October 22nd last year. Without any record, the warranty would assume to be expired as of that date this year. You could always send it in to HTC for repair tho or look for spare parts and fix it but sounds like a waste to me...
Could always try wiping that phone from CL and see if it fixes anything...good luck with that
Also, the warranty does not cover physical damage caused by owner/operator.
So the dropped phone isnt covered even though its only a month old?
And if I bought the phone the warranty wouldn't come with it anyways?
warranty covers manufacturer defects: unresponsive keys or screen, bad radio, excessive random reboots, etc. dropping and busting your phone is where the phone insurance is used.

[Experience] Dust under screen, unlocked bootloader and repaired without issue.

Hey Everyone,
I just wanted to share my experience with sending my nexus one with an unlocked bootloader to HTC for cleaning.
Like a lot of nexus one owners, I started seeing dust under my screen after a few months (I always kept the phone in it's case while not in use). I called HTC and they sent me an email with a fedex delivery label. I sent the phone in on a Monday, and by the next day they had received it and posted a status that my phone was being diagnosed. A few hours later, the status changed to indicate it was being repaired. By Wednesday, they finished the repair and I received my cleaned phone on Thursday.
The best part: I had unlocked my bootloader and when I received the phone back the bootloader was relocked! This time, I gained root without unlocking the bootloader.
One issue however: My phone's IMEI is different that what it was when I sent it in. Not a huge problem, however some games I had no longer recognized my phone after I did a nandroid restore.
I hope this helps anyone who has a problem with dust under their screen and is reluctant to send it in for cleaning.

Interesting to hear that they cleaned it and returned the same phone. When I called them in may they said it will take two weeks and they will send me a refurb phone.
What was the process like? The Nexus I just bought form a dude from CL was kinda dinged up, which was okay, and the phone was perfect other than those few dings, I find out later(which he probably didn't care about but I do) was the back button isn't as sensitive as the other capacitive buttons and there's one spec of dust under the screen.
How do I start the process?
I had the same results a few months back, but I opted for a refurb instead of a repair. Told them I had dust under the screen, and the rep said, "OK, we have two options...repair or refurb." Not a single question asked.

Any deposit or hold on the account?
EDIT: Just checked the phone, It has definite dust under the screen near the top and bottom. I am a shoe-in for a refurb now.
Same exact story for me. I also had a few dings in the bottom shell of the phone, they replaced that as well. Which is awesome. I just know it's my phone because the IMEI is the same, as well as a small little scratch on the screen is still there.
Also shipped a Cliq in to Motorola to get the keyboard repaired. I shipped them both on a Tuesday, got the Nexus back on that Friday. Didn't get the Cliq back until the Friday after. That's ridiculous.
My serial number and wireless MAC are the same but the IMEI is different.

Grrr, I will have to wait almost a week and a half to do this, since that's when I will have the funds available for the process. . .I don't want to wait a week! Lol, I want to have this done by the end of the week.
@Tito You don't need "funds" to do the repair, just send them your phone and use another for awhile. I lucked out and upgraded to the Vibrant, and then got my Nexus One back the day I was returning the Vibrant. Since it sucks and all.. Haha.

Yes, they replaced my entire casing which had a few small scratches and one large ding on the bottom where I dropped it on the sidewalk. It's pretty wonderful.

I will wait for the refutb lol, cs rep convinced me since everything is guarenteed to work and they make sure it has a new mobo and everything so its like new. I am down for that lol. But this wait time is gonna kill me, since I dont have all the money to do it.

Nexus One Dev handset
I have the exact same issue with dust under the screen but on the lower left of the screen. I have two things working against me ;
a) I'm not sure if the handset is in warranty as it was given to me by a Google Staff member as it's a Dev phone.
b) there are superficial scratch marks from my keys on the casing which an engineer my assume are impact marks from a drop which is not the case.
what are my chances of it being repaired for free?
I would expect it to be out of warranty buy now if it came from a Googler.
I sent mine back due to my screen was impossible to use, sent it back, they replaced just about all inside parts, mother board and much more, I had the phone back in 3 days working great. HTC has done everything to make my phone perfect. I would not hesitate to purchase any HTC product, they are the best IMO.
Thank You HTC
I called HTC UK my phone is still in warranty period until December 2011. She also said the screen would be replaced free of charge as it is manufacturers fault if I wanted any additional repairs i.e. casing etc that I would have to pay for that, however I can still avail of the UPS pick up service. Price Quotation of £30 for new casing.
£30? That's bloody good!
I've my N1 off with HTC UK at present getting repaired, it for some reason stopped letting any SIM card connected to any network.
Sent it off last Thursday (24th Feb) and still not got it back yet. HTC repair tracking is telling me the repair is done but no sign of the phone as yet.

Finally have my phone back

Hey all,
I broke my phone over 4 weeks ago now, it was sent off for repair on the 31st of August to the HTC repair center in the UK.
The screen was fine, however the LED underneath was broke and I couldnt see the screen (2 white lines on it). This cost me £120 to repair - where I was told in the vodafone shop by a woman (who didnt even know what the phone was) that it would probably cost £40 - I didnt get my hopes up on that though xD
Now exactly 4 weeks later it has arrived in perfect condition, it had a scratch on the back which seems to have been polished out as it is now barley visible which is nice of them.
So yeah, just a little bit of information for people sending their phones off
Now its time to install a rom
oh my god, it took a month for them to fix it?thats pretty shabby service, mine went last week, if it aint back by friday and i will be pissed and on the phone!
good to hear your phones in good shape but 4 WEEKS!!!, thats pretty piss poor service if you ask me. im in the same boat as OrionCarl, sent mine last monday and they recieved it tuesday, how long does it take to flash a phone...?. i've already been on the phone yesterday and was told to call again tomorrow if my ticket/tracking hasnt changed. really want my phone back.........
I got mine back last week after 2 months of repair. It got crushed in a car door and was actually bent, with cracked LCD and glass. The chap in the TMobile store actually laughed at me and said it was a hopeless case, but Fone Doctors on London Bridge Station came through. New LCD, Digitizer (and possibly mainboard) for £140.
The insurance companies must hate this.
£20-30 excess and brand new phone the next day.
HTC repair in the UK (not far from where I live) are unbelievably shabby, failed to notify me that they would charge me for a repair which should have been covered under warranty so that if I had just waited they'd have destroyed my phone, not return it but destroy it!
well i called back today, as told on monday and was told to call again on friday if the repair status doesnt change by then. the guy said there was a huge backlog of broken phones to fix. really crap service !!!
mine still says repair, service does seem shabby sadly, will ring tomorrow and have a moan, if I left my custmomers waiting for parts for a month, i wouldnt have a job!!!!
As stated in trading standards repair centers have 28 days to repair or replace a phone if it runs over this time scale then you have the right to demand a replacement handset 28days is deamed as reasonable time scale for a repair. If you got it from a network shop eg o2 there repair center will do it as quick as they can but if its not bk by 28 days you will be sent a refurbed handset which is sometimes better than a repair.

Broken Screen

Well I officially broke my precious Galaxy S3.
Dropped from my pocket to a hard floor.
The LCD began to leak down the screen, eventually filling the screen with black.
The irony? Not one single mark or scratch on the phone, even after this drop.
I hadn't yet swapped over my phone insurance yet from my old phone, and it happened 35 days after I got the phone from Phones4U.
They have sent it in for repair (under manufacture warranty). This takes TWO WEEKS. And I may get a phone call stating that due to the damage being from "shock" by being dropped, they cannot replace the screen digitizer.
If this happens, I have an option to pay £60 for them to repair it, or I can get the phone back and claim off insurance (because I only started my insurance on the day it broke, so I have to wait a week for insurance to be valid).
Thoughts?
I looked at this:
http://www.amazon.com/Original-Genuine-Digitizer-Assembly-Samsung/dp/B008AT974I
But too much £££
Its most definitely not a warranty claim.
£60 versus self repair with no warranty on your repair .
A number of i broke i replaced my screen posts on XDA worth a look to get an idea of costs difficulty etc .

i dont know why it says LCD not AMOLED on that auction..
Yeah they asked me in Phones4U if I dropped it.
To which I responded, "nope never", and there are NO MARKS on the phone at all.
He phoned the Samsung tech support and they said that the digitizer must have cracked due to a "shock or fall" and that I may get a phone call from the repair team arguing it.
Not sure what to do if I do?
I just want to claim ignorance and say it has never been dropped and get a new screen in it.
Anyone had experience with Phones4U repair center?
Service centers are not morons. If the screen is broken it a result of usegs and not manufacturing issue. I do not see why they should fix this under warranty. So say yes i drpped it and have it fixed for 60£

Send it back to LG for repairs $100-160 cost
I'd look for a local cell phone place that does repairs, yes the nexus 4 has the glass that wraps the edges but you can always show them this and if they say yes they can repair it then I'd let them repair it..they should warranty their work and you won't have to be without a phone ..id do it that way pending on the price compared to sending the phone in for warranty work.

Hey what exactly was wrong with your screen. Mine works fine, but just has a cracked appearance. This means that they will only have to replace the glass aka digitizer but not the LCD underneath. There for my repair should be cheaper than most people. What did you have to get replaced? I'm curious if my repair cost would be less than yours. Thanks.

Buddy, you have dropped a GLASS made phone, what do you expect??? Sometimes-you drop it and it doesn`t break, next time- you drop it and it breaks!!! It`s GLASS. Probably they need to come up with a titanium edition, just for you!

Yes, you are right... Nexus 4 is the best looking smartphone I have ever come across so far... And Truth is I am never used to cases or covers for phones, and If at all I have to cover with a protection case, it is waste of the killer beauty again..That is why I await Larry's promises to be true on xPhone/Next Nexus(For Google I/O'13), as he said “In today’s multi screen world, the opportunities are endless… battery life is a huge issue… when you drop your phone it shouldn’t go splat,”... My decision was utter wrong on Nexus 4, I'm a hardcore nexus fan... After I get it fixed, I buy a cover and give to my brother....
UK Repairs service
Hey Guys,
Just wanted to say I've cracked my phone as well (woe!), less cracked-rather than smashed in multiple places. Was just minding my own business playing a bit of Ruzzle whilst pondering the questions of life on the toilet...
Anyway, called up LG support (make sure to find their cheaper phone number from saynoto0870 website); and was told they'd send me an envelope with details on the repair.
If you go on the website to schedule a repair, it'll tell you they carry out fixed price repairs at £130. This should leave the phone under warranty.
When I received the envelope, it was a letter from a company called Regenersis; who appear to be the repairs company responsible for a lot of outsourced repairs internationally. They also appear to be the source of some internet ranting due to bad customer service (seems to be a general trend with these third party repairs companies).
Anyway, sent phone off yesterday so will try to report anything back with regards to prices, results etc.
BTW this is for UK only, although I suspect LG will do something similarly for most other countries with regards to repairs.
I think they should have made the back out of flexiglass.

So just called up Regenersis on Friday morning and they gave me a quote of 122GBP for full repair, service and postage back to me. 8 pounds cheaper than the fixed price on the LG page. So paid via direct debit over the phone and have been told it should be sent off in a few days as both the phone and parts are ready to be put together. I would expect to receive it sometime mid-next week. Will post back on repair results. (If the quality is good, it would have been about the same price as buying my own screen from Ebay. It would probably take aprox. the same amount of time due to long postage times; though the main advantage being that I keep my warrantee).

Hey guys,
Final update on the phone repair situation. I received my phone this morning from Regenersis after a total time since send off of aprox. 2 weeks since registration on the LG repairs website. (What more of a present could I ask for on my Bday!).
Anyway, in summary; the repair itself after paying took only 1-2 days.
To my surprise the experience overall with these guys were reasonably pleasant despite the bad reviews on the net. Although I suspect that's the standard scenario where someone will only complain when something goes wrong.
Either way, the repair cost less than the quoted guaranteed LG repair price on their website of 130GBP.
Tips for anyone planning on sending their broken Nexus 4 to these guys:
Register through LG repairs service first. Book your slot online, then give the LG guys a call next day to confirm it's gone through so that they can get Regenersis to send through a repair letter with details.
Once the phone is sent off to Regenersis (I'd suggest Royal Mail tracked as this'll allow you to know exactly when it's arrived in Glasgow); give them a call within about 2/3 days to ask about an online quote or otherwise when it'll be examined by their engineers. (I had to wait until next before calling back to ask about the price and paying through the phone via direct debit).
After that I'd suggest giving them about 3/4 working days to repair if they have all the parts ready etc, before calling back to check on progress.
With any luck you'll get your phone back within about 2 weeks.
I've attached a picture of the repaired phone; it seems good as new and there are no scratch marks or signs that the phone has been tampered in any way. (Sorry for the bad photo!).
Edit: Had a play with the phone, a horizontal line across the upper quarter of the screen doesn't actually respond to touch; only has display. Sooo....called up LG again this morning to have them tell me they'll send me another package to send back again to Regenersis... Only one piece of advice, don't for frack's sake break your Nexus 4. Seriously!
Turns out after the repair, the phone was placed back under warrantee status allowing me to raise the issue up with Google themselves. So after a quick call to the US phone line (cheaper with the say no to 0870 redirect phone line), they agreed to send me a replacement. I received it within 3 days from the call and haven't needed to be absent of a phone for over a week if sent to repair again. Now to simply send the broken faulty phone back to google via their supplied prepaid packaging.
Happy repairs guys,
Signing out.

Newsflash! LG is not in the glass production business. They receive their Gorilla Glass from Corning, just like most of the other manufacturers out there. If the glass broke from you dropping it, it has ZERO to do with LG's build quality.

Was your phone repaired or replaced? Was the internal memory wiped?
I have a cracked unresponsive screen and will be making an insurance claim (so slightly different process). Unfortunately I hadn't enabled USB debugging so I'm struggling to get the files off the device before I send it off.
I'll be insisting on a repair rather than a replacement and I don't want my device being factory reset.

Hey Carpetboy,
Mine was simply repaired, but all my files had been backed up to dropbox and gmail so wasn't too bad. My gf had a few things fixed through insurance and they've just replaced it each time because they're not necessarily specialised to deal with repairs; especially if it's a very new phone it seems. Though if it's just a screen repair it might not be too bad.
Good luck dude! :good:

LG Repaired Cracked Screen for $153
Hello everyone,
I recently had my phone repaired by LG. They replace the screen for $153. The repair facility is located in Ft Worth Tx, and the payment center is located in Alabama. It cost me $20 to send it 2nd day air via UPS. Also, I bought another nexus 4, and now am returning it back to google less then 15% restocking fee. Basically, i rented a nexus 4 16gb for $50 over a 2 week period.
Same!

I went to my provider here in Canada as well and it was because my phone over heated and the front glass cracked and my provider told me it would cost about $250 and as I read these comments it makes me question why is it $250 in Canada but only $140-$160 in other countries? its not fair ( well in my opinion it should be the same price just in CAD ) I too need this number! it just makes no sense ! I live in AB so tax shouldnt be the problem neither.
