Go to system/media and find a file called bootanimation.zip and shutdownanimation.zip or something like that. Swap it with custom zips. Now still in media go to audio/ui and find poweron.ogg and poweroff.ogg or similar delete or swap woth customl. If you delete you will have no boot and shutdown sound.

There is a boot animation and there is also a separate boot animation if you have the phone encrypted.
It boots and you get the normal boot animation, then you get a prompt for PIN, then you get a padlock with animation, then you get the home screen.
Pretty sure you need to be rooted to update system/media, so good luck with that. This think is locked down, good especially the H873 version.

as a zip or gif in pro mode. i tried loading a zip with the app and it says please select a valid boot animation.
i take it there's more to it than zipping a gif

Not sure where the .zip is to flash the entire system..in fact, I don't think that was officially released yet. If you managed to get Clockworkdmod installed, I know there is a system image you can flash in the Dev section here.
Or If I have a nandroid back up how can I get that on m y phone to run that? I have it on the SD part of my card but doest show in the back up and restore file

You can try flashing these:
1- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877601
2- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875875
3- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875184 (if you really know what you're doing)
I assume you understand how adb shell works and all that, since you're dabbling in all this goodness .
Good luck, young samurai!
How would I write a system image would it be fastboot flash system system.img?

SEUS - I guess the only option unless you can boot it up first. Not sure if there is any recovery exists at them moment. May be that might help.

as my understanding goes on, when you mess up a theme update and you get to a loop, you are probably done and have to re-flash your FW.
If it is force close then you can probably with some hardship put the original back. Did you try to ask the question in related thread?

Nope, i didnt ask yet. If SEUS wont work i'll search up for flash.
Edit: it started downloading, hopefully it will be fixed soon.
I'm so glad i took a backup of everything before i move systemui.apk and i wont lose a single snapshot or file.
I'll edit the thread later
Edit 2:
My phone is now brand new and un-rooted
xD
I'm going to re-root it again, remove bloatware and un-root it. No more playing with system files till a perfected recovery tool.
My heart was beating like crazy
Thanks for the quick answers

You probably can't brick the phone forever. There is always a solution for it specially for this themeing but always be careful with what you do.
Good luck,
I have a Nexus S i9023 with stock 2.3.6, unroot and everything, basically i didn't do a thing. Now, I want to update to 4.0.3, but since the ota doesn't show up i want to do it manually: i've searched the post but i can't find an how-to

oh come on, a few minutes of searching would have enlightened you.
if you downloaded the update: rename file to update.zip, put in root of your device, boot into recovery mode and install through it.
Danke, i tried to search "FLASH ZIP" but there were sooooo many topics unrelated (like flashing custom roms ecc)

because OTA has a script that reinstalls stock recovery every boot.
The black screen is because the ics recovery for 9023 does not turn backlight on, a bright light should show it up.
To stop the recovery reinstall you need to rename /ect/recovery-from-boot.p and /system/install-recovery.sh

rename in something like file.old.p or something specific?

You need to look at /tmp/recovery.log while in recovery (adb pull it if you have to). Look in it for the last file that it tried to read before it gave the error. Your options are either delete that file or pull it then delete it. However, the file is corrupt in some way and the backup will never finish.
Sorry I a noob on this, I was able to get the recovery.log and Attached it but i dont have any idea where to find the error. Please help
thanks

If you're fairly new to this then starting from a fresh install may be a better safeguard. However, you'll pick things up quicker if you determined enough. If you're simply wanting to remove the app BasicDreams, I went ahead and made modded a pre-existing flashable zip (all credit to Gizmo) just so you can remove that app. To use it, boot into recovery and flash it through there.

I am stuck on the 'Phone is starting...' screen. This is how I landed here
1. Added Finger Print Customizations when the phone was working and they did work as expected.
2. Noticed update from 9.0.10 to 9.0.10
3. Flashed stock 9.0.10 image over Bluespark and Magisk rooted image
4. Flashing stock 9.0.10 caused getting stuck in the 'Phone is starting...' screen
5. I can hear my phone ringing on this screen, but I cannot answer any calls since the phone is stuck forever on this screen
6. I tried flashing bluespark and magisk in the hopes of being able to boot, but that just cases my old boot screen to show up and then going back to restarting in a loop again
I believe OPSystemUI.apk (file that I replaced under /system/priv-app for getting custom finger print animation) is causing the issue. I do not know how to restore the stock version of this file without wiping all my data clean. I am not sure if this is the file causing the issue. Is there any way to get the phone started by flashing some files via adb?
Appreciate the inputs in advance.

Silly me, I was looking in the ROM section. I will use this and update the thread again
Hey! It worked. The phone is up and running now. Only thing is I lost all the data on the phone
Solution
Next time you face this issue in any ROM, you can do the following to come out of it. However, you would need to have a customised notification panel, which will allow you to go to settings and security option. Also, ensure you do not have a default launcher, if you have more than 1 launcher in your phone that you use.
Just long press any icon which leads to settings, or click on the settings icon from the notification bar.
It will open a blank settings page. Do a scroll up and down, and it will refresh.
Then go to security and privacy and delete the fingerprints.
You may also need to delete the security pin or swipe or the lock screen settings.
NOTE: Do not delete the locksettings.db from Recovery mode. It will break everything and the above steps might not help.
BTW, I am facing this issue for the last 3 days. Have been doing clean flash everytime. I was searching this issue on internet, but yours came up just now, and I read, FingerPrint, and it stuck me. Now it worked. Rebooting now. But posting the comment here in case I face any issues. Want to help you, as I know what the feeling is like. Frustrated and tired, wanting to kill someone.
Edit: Rebooted without any lock pin or FP. Shows phoe is starting, and starts in 2 seconds and allows access.
Will set a pin and check now.
Then will set one FP and check.
Edit2: Set pin lock and rebooted. Works okay..
