Is it a worthy upgrade from the nexus 5? - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

The Thread ..

I had a Nexus 5x previously and I found it a reasonable upgrade in terms of speed, battery life, being able to use an external SD card, dual sim (check if the model you're looking at is dual SIM). Downside was the slow updates from Lenovo, and depending on what region you're in you'll lose either NFC or the compass. Overall I feel it was worth it

In that case I'd suggest some googling...

Is U8800 PRO worth the money? is it reliable?

Hi everyone,
im thinking to get Huawei U8800 PRO,
and was wondering, is it reliable?
i was reading some user opinions on GSMarena and XDA, seems like 50/50, or you get faulty device or not.
Well my friend i have one for a month and so far i'm very pleased, very fast, stable, recent chipset.
Overall very good phone for the money.
The cons is that there is no custom roms yet, it has the froyo, unlike the u8800 i doesn't have too many tweaks.

Thanks mate, already made my correction.
Looking forward to try those custom roms.

Thanks! 1 customer seems doesnt have problems
hmmm maybe just wait a bit more and till it will be updated to 2.3
p.s. custom roms arent in my intesterests, i just want stability with stock rom

Custom ROMs are more stable than stock in most cases
Im using SE phone, and still till this day i havent found any more stable rom than stock one 2.1 by SE
I have possability to get Samsung Galaxy Gio from same network provider for same price (wich is by specs is far away from Huawei ofc), but i dont know how PRO is reliable, from what i understand nonPro version is win or loose, quite big percentage to get a faulty phone.
I just dont want to pay for 2 years for a phone wich can stop working properly after 1 week or 1 month
So its a big deal for me to know as much as possible from user expieriences.

My brother have a Huawei Ideos X5 and its way too good for the money...Very quick and stable...
Dont buy this it has ****ty camera like ideos x5
Go for htc desire s instead of this
Way better camera real 720p hd no lags in videos good performance in low light conditions and fast performance 768mb ram which is good for multitasking
Plus htc support
You can find desire s in price of u8800 pro
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
U8800Pro is way cheaper than desire s. 512mb and 768mb ram dont make a big difference. Camera is worse, true. But is it worth the money?
Wifi and Bluetooth is much better on the desire S as well. It's not just the RAM, the phone itself and it's components are higher quality.
If you afford a Desire S, don't even think about Huawei.
HTC actually has support, I've received 2 OTA updates last week...So they actually care about users...

Actually, you're wrong...have a look at this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_on_chip
The chip-set is the same, but peripherals, ROM, RAM, EEPROM and external interfaces (USB, HDMI, WIFI, BT etc) are manufacturer designed/sourced components (in HTC case, they are higher quality).
And another thing, if your statement would be true all MSM 8255 based phones would be identical...so, NO!

If you think that only processor is different between u8800 and u8800pro - you're wrong. They've changed something more. Wifi chip for example. That's why Pro has FM radio and non Pro doesn't. proof

This is no argument The point of the conversation is that people talk about U8800 cons while the topic is about U8800Pro, which has those cons fixed in factory (except the camera of course, I think that even my old HTC Magic took better pictures)

[Q] Which S4 to buy in the USA?

I was wondering if the community could help me make a decision as to which model S4 would be best suited for me for primary use in the USA with very light travel abroad. I’ve done my research on XDA and would like to hear some opinions of USA users of the S4.
I will outline some of my usage profile to help guide suggestions (this is not in order of importance).
• Primarily use data over Wi-Fi.
• Would like to root the phone.
• Telephone Voice Recording (my job description often requires taking directions over the phone)
• Wi-Fi calling would be great but not a must.
• I like to jump between AT&T and T-Mobile so I need to have that flexibility. Mostly for the prepaid services.
• I would prefer a very responsive device.
• A lot of voice communication over the phone primarily using a Bluetooth headset.
• 4G would be nice but 3G is more than adequate for my data needs.
• Fastest camera load times as well as picture quality is important to me.
• The phone will be purchased without a contract.
• I know what KNOX is but not sure how that would apply to which model to get if I want to root the phone.
Here are the options (if I leave something out please mention). If I state something incorrect please correct me.
i9500 - this is an eight core model, my understanding is that only four cores running at time anyway so there really is no advantage there. This is the first version of the S4.
i9505 - probably the one with the most development options as well as custom ROMs.
i9006 - probably the best performing version. Can it be rooted? KNOX workaround?
SGH-M919 - this is the T-Mobile version. My understanding is that it’s similar to the 9505 in terms of hardware performance and has LTE capability on the T-Mobile network. This will work also on PC Metro along with Wi-Fi calling on both T-Mobile and PC Metro.
What is the warranty situation on each of those for the USA (the T-Mobile one would be bought unlocked brand-new).
So based on my description of usage what do you guys recommend?
I like to thank everyone who contributes to helping me.
It depends on which operator you use?
9500 is dual-quad core, but there seems rumor in next version of Android update will make it octa core online at same time
9506 , best for performance, rooting yes but KNOX ,I think it comes out with 4.3 so already included KNOX bootloader in factory.
If you don't wanna 4G and need some flashing, 9500 or 9505 , no flashing? 9506
But if you want 4G, take M919
9505 and 919 are hardware identical except radio frequency (although some of them coincided, but I think 9505 may not work on T-Mobile, but I don't know for sure )

I’m going to jump from AT&T to T-Mobile. Primarily the prepaid variance. The reason being is I travel for work and certain areas get better coverage than others so I constantly flip back and forth.

So if I just want to root the phone will this affect KNOX on this model. And is there a workaround for this?

I don’t really care that much about 4G. If I have it it’s nice, 3G will suit me more than enough. When you talk about flashing your talking about putting custom ROMs? That has nothing to do with rooting? And I am assuming you say that because the 9506 lacks in development because most people are going to wait for the S5, which is basically going to be the 9506 but waterproof.
Can you root the 9506?
Is there a big difference between the 9506 and 9505 in terms of performance? If you have to take a guess is it a 10% increase 30% increase?
Thank you for your response.

Probably rooting without trigger KNOX, but I am not sure

Yes, 9506 is in the middle of very embarrassing position

Yes, there is way to root it in forum.

Personally I'd say 9506 is about 40% over 9505 on performance, but it's all kinda over-performance for normal usage. It's like you have a car can run at 200 km/h and other one on 300 km/h where your highway is only allowed at 150 km/h ... that's what I think about it, I had 9506 once and turn back just because of lack of development

Sorry for answer like this, tapatalk isn't good when reply it, I will try to answer your further question anyway I can.
Either, I think you should consult the operator if 9500/9505 works well on certain radio frequency before you buy it

Snapdragon & Exynos Note 4

Hi,
Not wanting to start a flame war.....
Has anybody got both the Snap dragon & the Exynos Note 4.
I recently got the Exynos & was thinking do I need the SD version. Was about to sell the SD but really not sure if that's a good idea. Should I keep both, Do I need both?
Does anyone else have both versions?
Thoughts?

keep the Exynos, sell the snapdragon.
keep both , you can do lots of experiment with those
Normally, snapdragon variants has more development. But this time it seems like exynos has more development than SD. Both are good. So if you are a flashaholic, just visit the both exynos and SD development pages and make your choice. Personally, i have exynos one and i'm really pleased with it..

I did root n flash the SD version but really didn't find it a revelation.
I have now sold on the SD version.
I hunted down the Exynos version for the Wolfson dac. So happy for now with the Note 4 on 5.1.1.
Maybe the Note 5 next.......

Many Note 5 roms are coming, so you may not need to buy note 5 after all And also, 5.1.1 update improved n4 a lot, it's much faster and battery efficient now..

Some questions before buying the phone.

I know it's been 1.5 years since the phone is out but since it's cheap (235$), I am considering to buy it (A2017G model).
1. Can I root this phone in stock rom, or do I need to go with a custom rom?
2. Is the stock rom good? ... and will there be new custom roms?
3. Is it worth buying this or should I wait and buy a new phone? (My budget is low so a new phone means mid-low range for me like redmi note 5 which will come in a few months.)
Thanks in advance. :good:

I asked about rooting because I have seen that I can't use twrp or unlock bootloader before downgrading to marshmallow in a thread here, so I was just wondering about the latest update is possible to use with twrp and root.
Thanks for the answers btw.

1) You can root this phone without any problem.
2) The stock rom is decent, if you have apps that need a clean rom from no root and tampering, I suggest you stick with stock, it does everything alright.
3) It is totally worth to buy the phone, the price you mentioned is decent for a new one. There is basically no other phone within that range that has an excellent camera, stereo front facing speakers, fast fingerprint sensor, 2k amoled screen(same panel as in the google pixel 1 XL), 4gb of ram, 64gb storage WITH the ability to add a SD-card for additional storage. Lastly it comes with a SD820 which is a beast regardless and very power efficient(if you don't mind no gaming to light gaming).
I bought mine 2nd hand for 140€ a best buy for me coming from a xperia m4 aqua.

Anything to know before buying the - ZE552KL - version of the Zenfone 3?

So my LG is dead, and I came across this phone.
What attracted me was the looks of it, it really looks nice! (and then it had some nice specs as well )
*But, it only has 3000 mAh battery, so I wonder how this phone does on a daily usage? I came from an LG G2 D802 with 3000 mAH as well, but smaller screen. So what do you think about the battery life, and if you have any other device to compare it with ?
I am planning to buy it on Aliexpress, but before I buy, I want to know if this phone has - like many other devices a "Chinese" version that the sellers on Aliexpress flash ROM on before shipping? Or this device has actually only 1 model? I also saw that Asus has an official store on Aliexpress so I am less worried, but still
Thanks!

Hi verynoob,
ZenFone 3's CPU is Snapdragon 625 (14nm FinFET) which has good battery life & good performance thanks to Adreno 506 GPU. Well ZenFone 3 has 2 versions (ZE520KL & ZE552KL). Both has same CPU but the difference is the RAM and storage. I have listed the specifications below:
ZE520KL: 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM, 5.2 inch Full HD screen with 2650mAh battery capacity
ZE552KL: 4GB RAM + 64 GB ROM, 5.5 inch Full HD screen with 3000mAh battery capacity
*Note: Different market/region, different RAM/ROM configurations & different LTE speeds & bands
If you buy ZenFone 3 from China/Taiwan/Japan, most probably the seller will change SKU to WW (which means no OTA upgrades and you can only update your device manually)
And ASUS just released Android Oreo for our device
Hope this helps
Thank you, I see you also have the same name as the phone haha, nice
So There is no way to make it OTA update, by flashing an official ROM somehow? Or that's not possible, and it's hardware thing

Haha. Usually, ZenFone 3 that comes from China will use CN SKU and Japan will use JP SKU. On the other hand, the serial number is attached with the SKU. Once the seller changed to WW SKU, ASUS can't provide you updates. So, manual update is only way to upgrade firmware.

Thank you, it does seem worth to buy, that's why I'm so skeptic before buying it, because from some reason I never heard of it before, until I accidentally encountered it on Aliexpress. And I dont know anyone who do know about it
It seem too good, even has USB-C, Gorlla glass, it's IPS+, and a great camera, and it's not too expensive. (Although 3000mAH isn't the best comparing to Xiaomi Redmi Note 4).
It has to have some flaws! Come on guys
So, would it make sense to buy it right now? Here in Italy I could get the ZE520KL from amazon at 220€ ( 273$ )

One thing you should take a look into, if you're planning to use Custom ROMs on this phone you will be disappointed, since not many ROMs available for this phone and not so many devs are working on it either (no offcial ROMs for it if I'm not mistaken).

The better version (5.5 inch with 3000 mAH is on 250-260$) right now on Aliexpress if you wish
And for that little price difference, perhaps you should consider the Samsung Galaxy A5 2017, which some of my friends have, and it looks great, great screen, great battery life. I had a Full HD Lg G2 on a 5.2 inch display, And the A5 is also FHD on a 5.2 display, yet it looks better in my opinion, and battery life is better. I dont know how Samsung does it, much better battery life with the same capacity
