Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my Mate 8, on Nougat. I have TWRP installed, and SuperSu.
I have moved an app from user to system app and rebooted the device and the app works perfectly as a system app.
As soon as I unroot from within SuperSu, that specific system app disappears! (I am not installing a fresh nougat image, just unroot)
The strange thing is that if I root again by installing SuperSu from TWRP, and reboot the phone, the system app appears again!
How can I transfer a user app to a system app, unroot and still have that system app running?
Btw, I have used both system/app and system/priv-app, as well as the correct permissions (755 for the folder, 644 for the apk) and still no luck.
Thanks
Just found the solution, for anyone who might be interested in the future, after unrooting with SuperSu install an insecure boot.img
You can find them at

The app hasn't disappeared. Only the start icon is missing. Just install it normally and it works again.

I have tried your method but it did not work. The only solution that worked is the one posted above. (i.e. flash insecure boot.img with fastboot)

I am running Nexus 7 with 4.2.1 build JOP40D.
After I got the 4.2.1 OTA update I noticed root was no longer working.
I went into Settings and Apps and disabled it and tried using SuperUser but discovered that it didn't work with 4.2.1
I used the Google Nexus_7_ToolKit_v4.0.0 and ran the root command choosing SuperSU which was the correct one for 4.2.1.
It did a cleanup of any other root stuff and successfully pushed root to the device.
It did not show up in the App Drawer, but does show up in Settings, Apps, All.
I tried again by sideloading via CWM recovery but there was no difference.
I then ran the toolkit to remove root, busybox, etc, then attempted to reinstall them both again.
I am still stuck with the same problem.
When running a root app such as Titanium Backup, it gets stuck at "asking for root rights" and not the 'you need to root your device' message.
Any help?
[edit]
When installing busybox it checks and says you should see the reply
system/xbin/busybox
but the reply I get is
system/bin/busybox
Is this a problem?

1. you need to flash the su binaries in your recovery, latest su binaries http://download.chainfire.eu/298/SuperSU/CWM-SuperSU-v0.99.zip
2. or you need to install busybox if you already flashed the binaries. you can find free busybox installer apps in the play store. best one is by stericson.
That's what confuses me. I have flashed the su binaries via recovery and also installed busybox.
Downloaded the busybox from Play Store now though. It can't install with root though.
Remember, SuperSU is showing up in Settings, Apps, All, it just doesn't seem to be usable or showing up in app drawer.

delete supersu from either /data/app/ or /system app/, wherever you have it installed. then reboot into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik. after, reboot and reinstall supersu app.
are you sure that you flashed the latest su binaries? if not sure, flash the one that i linked while youre in your recovery.

Thankyou again for your response.
I deleted superuser.apk using adb, then cleared the caches. I then rebooted recovery, sideloaded the latest superuser (from the link provided) and then booted into Android.
Same as before. Superuser is not in the app drawer, but can be seen in settings.
Remember when I said I disabled it in Settings, Apps?
Well it turns out that Google remembers this, even when the app is removed and reinstalled. It will not show that it is disabled when you check it in Settings though.
To fix, I disabled again, then enabled it. Boom fixed.
Feel rather sheepish now.
Although you pushed me to learn quite a bit more about adb so thanks for that!

Hi!
I am new to Android, been using iOS since 2007 and now I want to root my LG G2.
I used ioroot10 (also tested with ioroot6), and it seems to work nice until i f.ex:
1) Open a app that need root access, and normally asks for permission, like Titanium. I don't get any question about permisson.
2) TWRP: Try to backup, but the mobile reboots with a dead android icon.
3) Open the Superuser-app, but there are no apps listed there. When I try to use the Binary Updater it fails on: "Making sure new su works".
Any help?
Hi,
Take a look here instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448887.
It works flawlessly.
install SuperSu from play store. once you instal it will automatically remove superuser.... now supersu should now ask you for permission.

I'm not using TWRP. maybe somebody can help you with that
I updated Lineage via the FOTA. After the reboot, my phone became unrooted and my V4A apps were gone(cannot be found in App List and app drawer).
I didn't use Magisk. I root my phone by flashing SuperSU v2.79 zip.
Do I need to flash SuperSU and V4A every time I update Lineage?

Oh, I didn't know that. I think I'll use Titanium Backup to backup the app data of my V4A.

Hello, a while back i installed OGYoutube for my OP5, however i want to try the new iYTBP but that means i have to uninstall the old mod. However i cannit seem to get it to remove.
I think i flashed it with TWRP and it was a magisk module, so i tried uninstalling it wirh magisk but it still remains. And i do not have the old file so i cannot twrp flash it again.
It came with a 2nd app named OGsettings and downloads.
Does anyone know how to uninstall both please, i used an u install app with root access and it didnt work, the phone jist reboots and its still there.
Thanks in advance!
Go into TWRP, mount system, then go to the file manager and delete it from there
thanks, that worked perfectly!
Hi all,
I followed the guide to update a rooted device but it didn't work I lost root. But even after flashing magisk 17, 18 and 18.1 I still can't get root.
Any advice or tips? Are you having the same problem?
Do you have the Magisk Manager app installed?

That is another strange thing... I don't see the app, but when I want to install it again it says 'Do you want to install the update...' [emoji848] and that fails... [emoji848][emoji848][emoji848]
Sometimes when you reboot the phone it appears

Any update? I seem in same boat ...on 9.0.12, some root apps work (torbot, liveboot) but AdAway says not rooted. Malwarebytes says rooted. Su command in terminal gets denied.....
This
Blows
As far as magisk manager it disappeared and apk install fails....
Sometimes magisk manager can get hung up in the update and then it doesn't want to let you in. Force stop, and see if i will let you in. Didn't work for me but you never know. I had to get it to where it was refusing to install the update, then while that was up go to settings where I could see it in my apps and uninstall it. Then I just installed it again, DLed the boot image, had magisk patch it, flashed it. The image and instructions are around here somewhere.
Was able to uninstall manager by using settings>apps but still cannot install magiskmanager and reroot attempt still no good. Still stuck.
Try flashing Magisk Uninstaller

No dice.
And originally I did.
Flashed Magisk uninstaller
Flashed OOS update
Flashed TWRP
Rebooted
Flashed Magisk....
No love
I did retry the Magisk uninstaller zip again since you brought it up...but no.
I've even tried the TWRP terminal Magisk module uninstaller to see what is there....only shows Magisk 18.1....which is only sort of there....
The Magisk Manager app must be installed separately from Magisk itself. The zip file does not install the app.

Resolved.
Backed up everything, did a factory reset
Booted via TWRP .img, reran 9.0.12 .zip via sideload,
Reinstalled TWRP
Rebooted into system
Rebooted into recovery
Installed magisk 18.1
Good to go.
