Since the 7.0 Nougat update has finally been released and installed on my Pure, I'm itching to root it but stay with stock nougat.
My question is ... Do I use the same method developed for 6.0 mm root? Specifically this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/help/rooting-stock-xt1575-marshmallow-6-0-t3353812
Thanks for your help?
No use Magisk. https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445 its prebuilt systemless. And will pass safety net. Unless you go xposed where it will fail. I would stay on version 14.0.
Thanks

Hi guys,
I've searched but have not found a satisfying answer yet. Coming from Kitkat and Lollipop without the need for Magisk.
Why would one use SuperSU AND Magisk? I mean, sure Magisk is to achieve a "systemless" root, but would not the use of SuperSU give you by definition system-based root?
Also, does it matter which kernel you use?
Stock with SuperSU, need for Magisk?
Modded kernel (eg: SuperStock for Exynos), still need Magisk?
Does SE enforcing vs permissive have any bearing on the above?
Thanks guys.
So after some reading, it seems that with Google's November security update, systemless root is required, and hence Magisk must be installed.
Is this true for modded kernels as well?
Also, why would Xposed framework require Magisk? Isn't root, root? Systemless or not.
Finally Rooted my Moto X2 2014 Victara Oreo custom ROM installed,
Just download ZIP below and flash via custom Recovery and enjoy some tweeks for Oreo too...
I found this from another thread and tested at My MOTO X2 having 8.0 OS, i took a Risk but i had proper backup, so please backup before testing but i think at 8.0 Custom ROMS it works fine.. Anything wanna know about X2 just ping me...

Why not just use Magisk?

Magisk is buggy till to date, nothing work in , Magisk won't install any of the zip module.... Better root and use substratum ....
Tested it on latest LOS15 and works fine
just SuperSu and without using Magisk will that cause any problems I have android version 7.1.2?
There is no STOCK 7.1.2 for this device... only 7.0, and if you look there are multiple references to people rooting Nougat with both SuperSU or Magisk, although in general Magisk is recommended.
If you are talking custom ROM, I would suggest asking in that ROMs thread for the preferred root method if it is not stated in the first post.
i am using S8+ G955FD, i am on android 7.0, fed up with slow UI and bloatwares so i decided to root, i did it with magisk, magisk v16.0 is installed and phone is rooted very well, but now i want to install xposed frameworks as well, but it always goes to bootloop when i flash xposed, i am on stock rom, is this issue, if yes then which custom rom will be best for this phone to use with magisk and xposed working well ?
hoping to get quick response....

You need your current Oreo compatible recovery to update to pie or the one from siankatabg's from here including update instructions https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/official-oxygenos-4-5-2-7-1-1-ota-t3627003
You also have to uninstall xposed. It's highly recommended to not run into issues.
So take a nandroid backup just in case you want to revert and for downgrade it's also necessary to make sure that your twrp is Oreo compatible. Actual pie recoveries need pie firmware.
Wiping os to downgrade isn't necessary, but it needs to be without xposed or other modifications.
For exposed for Pie have a look at here https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/xposed-android-pie-modules-test-t3894500
