Anyone else having this issue? I tried a factory reset on my S8+. I got stuck in the Recovery screen with a dm-verity error. I downloaded the firmware, installed it through Odin3.12.7, rebooted, then got a DRK error. I'm not sure how to get past or fix that? Any experience out there with that?

Drk error is usually a very bad sign. After an Odin flash? Sounds like you accidenty clicked efs clear.. j hope I'm wrong avout Tha and if not then pray you have a backup a to restore via Odin. If not it's not looking good.

yep this is why you should always back up your efs partition as soon as you are done rooting. without a backup repairing this is going to be very hard.

Thanks for the reply. I really don't know what happened. Woke up the other day and it wouldn't send texts. It would receive them, but not send. When I took it to Verizon, they suggested a factory restore, so I started that and that's when the errors began.
What do you mean by having a backup to restore?

To be honest I don't know for sure but I don't have a good feeling.b efs contains your IMEI and all other per-phone information necessary to get a device on the network. If it's erased then all that info is gone so if you didn't back it up it's for good.
There are places (some less than reputable, others surely very reputable) that supposedly can repair these in certain cases, but I know nothing more.
Also fyi: if your initial thought is to clone someone else's efs, know that that is quite illegal in just about every country as it amounts to IMEI spoofing

hi guys, i really messed up this time, for some reason i lost my efs backup, and for some reason i flashed an XXDMG based rom, and i got the fake imei error, so i done some research and flashed the new modem that solved the issue, once that happened i also backed my efs up which i have sitting on my desktop in .img form.
So i went on 2 flash a 4.3 rom and all i was getting was errors,so i odined a stock rom XXALJ2, and ive just been getting this factory error, id love to restore the efs but the damn /efs wont mount, and i always get an error along the lines of write error or something, in the frustation of the moment i done a stock odin (xxalj2) and ticked phone efs clear, and still, nothing is happening - its the same old error - the efs didnt even clear.
So now i have a phone in factory mode, with no signals and i honestly have no clue what to do next,.
Any help will be much appreciated.

no luck, that did not work thanks for suggesting that
upon trying to terminal the efs backup into place i get the write error, its killing me
Hey guys,
So I am a beginner here, had no idea what I was doing and somehow I ended up messing up/bricking my S4. Long story short, after several days of messing around with it, I was finally able to take firmware through ODIN back to stock.
The issue is: The phone still does not recognize my sim card, when I check baseband it says Unknown, and IMEI is Null/Null. After further research, it seems that this has something to do with EFS. Unfortunately, I did not back up any such files since I have no real idea what I am doing.
Can anyone help me out with this? Galaxy S4- SGH-I337, NB1.
I just need the most simple fix to get phone working again.
Thanks.
Get a s4 from a friend and make a back up of the EFS. That's how I have heard people make it work
Maybe this can help you.

The only issue with that is they want me to back up and restore the EFS. I did not back up my EFS initially so I feel it is too late for that.

Did you ever make a nandroid backup at all? I know twrp backs up the efs hopefully you have that somewhere.
There is an app in the playstore that will give you your efs info using other info. It's called meid converter. Good luck.

It will tell you your imei, and other info that you might be missing. From there you will have to try and figure out a way to reinput them manually. There was an app called anycut that worked great for things like this back in the gingerbread days. I'm sure there are ways to do it in terminal emulater now hopefully a more knowledgeable user can help out with that part.
Still cant figure out what I should do here. Any further ideas?
I have tried changing the firmware via Odin several times, and I am still having the same issue! Can someone please instruct on how to get the baseband and IMEI back if it was never backed up in the first place.
Thanks!!

Last bump before I give up on this
Hi,
I've been having problems with my 4 month old GS4 lately, mainly because I was not able to make or receive calls and texts. I looked up my problem, and eventually traced it down to a unknown baseband and IMEI problem. Sure enough, my baseband and IMEI was missing. I researched and found out that you need to backup your EFS folder as it may have been corrupted, unfortunately I was not able to do so. I even tried factory resetting my phone to stock TouchWiz, hearing reports that a hard reset can fix the problem; unfortunately, I'm still missing my IMEI and Baseband. All help is appreciated
This Phone was/is rooted, and has been flashed several times with custom ROMS.
Thank you in advance.
If the problem started without you flashing or doing anything else, then you have a hardware failure. Your emmc chip is probably broken. Bring it to a service center.

I'm not so sure really. I flashed Cyanogenmod and it was working fine, I could make and receive calls. However, my SIM card died and I had to replace it. That was when I noticed the problem.
EDIT: Okay, I failed to read completely. I kept reflashing nandroid backups however, after experiencing problems unrelated to this.

It might be, since my efs folder have nv_data.bin but i can't tell for sure since i'm still a newbie here.
Did you try searching for efs backup on the phone? I know some roms do automatic backup after flash so it might be left there somewhere.

I can't say for sure. My IMEI and Baseband was visible when I was running CM11. My SIM died eventually, so I had 0 service after that for about a week. During this time, I flashed AntaresOne's Unofficial cm12 5.0. Maybe it was corrupted when I flashed it? Anyway, My efs folder appears to be missing files aswell. I can't seem to find nv_data.bin perhaps my efs folder really is corrupted?
I was VERY stupid. I went back to stock Oxygen OS using a fastboot image and now if I dial #*06# the IMEI box shows up but no IMEI number is actually in the box it is just blank. I did post about this before but last time I didn't really know what happened I was asking if anyone could tell me what they thought happened. I am pretty sure I screwed up the EFS partition and I am just wondering what I need to do now. Is there some way I can repair it I mean I don't have a backup. Can I contact OnePlus support? I really need help.

This happened to me a few times in the past, all I had to do was wipe dalvik and cache again and it came back. Not sure if it's the same issue but I would give it a shot. Just boot into recovery and wipe them again and see if it gets you back up and running.

I cannot use that because my device is not hard bricked and it will not install the driver since I can enter the bootloader normally.
Not sure if you've seen this post its based on the post above but I think it just uses fastboot. Don't know if it will work for you, but figured it would be worth a shot.

I tried using the tool and it did not work, I purposely hard bricked the device to try it and still no signal or imei. Another problem is WiFi takes about 4 minutes just to turn on but I can live with that I just want service.
Basically flashing back the stock should bring back the efs. Let's see if someone has a solution. Sorry!
EFS files are unique to each phone. If the EFS is corrupt or damaged, and there is no backup, I don't know of any way to fix it ;_; You can try OnePlus support but they aren't as dumb as carrier warranty or other phone manufacturers. They'll be more likely to know what you did.
It is possible to restore your imei number, I did it on my brothers lg g2. It requires some software for PC (I can't remember the name, you'll have to google it) and the box your phone came in with the imei number. It is possible, so don't lose hope!

Last time I reset my phone it took forever to reset. Try redoing the process but give it plenty of time. Also, don't worry about it heating up.
If you had any message saved on the phone you won't be able to view it after a reset.
Try taking these precautions next time you reinstall firmware:
Make sure you have the right firmware for your country code (it's usually on a sticker on the box or when you go in download mode: power+volume up+bixby)
Make sure you have the latest Samsung Drivers for Mobile installed on your pc, this usually leads to bootloops if not installed before flashing
Ensure you have the original cable that came with the box connected as it has information that's not found on other wires
Make sure you have the most recent version of Odin. I recommend uninstalling anything you have on your pc and reinstalling the files from the beginning so nothing mixes up
These really helped when I got MY phone stuck in a bootloop...twice...
It happened after only official released binaries are allowed to be flashed. but got someone a s8 backup?
