Nexus 6p Turning off and won't turn on until plugged in - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently had my nexus 6p battery replaced. I was told it was replaced with the Huawei brand battery. The capacity seems to be normal again. However, I have noticed that my phone is randomly shutting off about once a week. It will go from using it to just completely blank screen and off. The battery will be at any charge percentage, but when I try to turn on the screen or turn on the phone, it just stays blank. It only works if I plug the phone in, wait for the charging indicator, then I can unplug it and turn on the phone..
I have noticed this has happened when I opened my camera app and when I opened snapchat. I think this is a coincidence, but I am unsure.
I noticed when I plugged the phone in when it had turned off, I noticed a very feint red flash of light below the ear piece. This is supposed to be where the light sensor and proximity sensor are at.
I had it happen again to me when I was opening Android Messages when I was with one of the repair guys that replaced the battery. I used a USB A to C cable to plug it into a computer and then into my phone to show him that plugging it in jump starts it and the battery is not dead. However, this resulted in a bootup, then blank screen. Leaving it plugged in has it bootup and then blank screen and back to off animated charging. Thinking phone was dead dead, I went home and tried to call warranty. In the process, I plugged it into my computer, USB C to USB C and the phone turned on and booted up. My computer has a thunderbolt 3 port. My guess is the power supplied by the USB 2.0 type A port was too low to give it the jumpstart. But when I plug it into the chargers I have at home, which are more powerful, it is enough to jump start it and get it working again. Maybe it is a coincidence about the different charger outputs.
Any thoughts?
I think it might be a battery issue and people were telling me it was part of what's going on in that lawsuit.

Only cheap battery's available for the 6p unless you get a ceno. I purchased a battery from eBay supposed "OEM." The first one did exactly what you first mentioned. Early shut downs and failure to turn on. I didn't even get those with the original battery just that it was getting bit tired. I messaged the seller and he gladly sent me another no questions asked. I've had that battery for 3 months now no battery sensor but works great. I wouldn't hesitate to order another knock off but will make sure it works this time before I put the back cover back on!!! So in other words there's nothing wrong with your phone just that your battery is a lemon. The fact that it's the original battery your having problems with is even worse. If you like the phone spend the $100 and get a shop to replace the battery.

I had the same issue, I tought the new battery was defective or false but it was because android 8.1 developer preview 1. I went back to android 8.0 and the issue dissapeared.

This is great to know, thank you. I'm having exactly the same problem as OP. I replaced the battery myself, I have no doubt that the battery is a cheap knock-off version even though it's got the Huawei branding and regulatory info on it.

I got the battery replaced and everything is great. Great battery life and no more restarting and locking up. Definitely was a battery issue.

Don't buy cheap knock off batteries. Remeber the original battery has a pretty fat ribbon cabble and also has the temperature controller built in the battery here's a pic

I have the same issue as everyone else posting here, except my battery is the original. The battery performance follows normal usage patterns. This means when I charge it, it eventually reaches 100%. When I'm normally using the phone on battery, it slowly discharges. Any phone acts like this.
My problems started when Oreo 8.1 was first installed. Other than being on the beta channel, this phone is not altered, or rooted.
Within fifteen minutes of using the phone heavily while on battery, the phone decides to shut down. The bars at the top and bottom of the screen turn bright red, the screen is greyed out, and it says "Shutting Down" in the middle of the screen. I have not traced this to any particular activity of mine. Usually just reading news or mail. When the phone shuts down, restarting will not work. It gets to the "android" screen, and shuts off again..
When I plug it into the charger The lightning bolt battery shape appears on the screen. Then the filling battery is shown, and it starts filling from very low. The second cycle of the filling battery starts filling from where I expect it to be: in the 80-95% range the phone was at when it crashed. At that point I can restart the phone, while plugged into the charger or not. The battery level indication after the phone is back is exactly what the battery was charged to when the phone crashed: usually 80-95%. I do not think it is a battery problem. I think the battery monitoring software is being interfered with.
Usually I can listen to an audio book with the screen off for a long period of time without triggering the crash. This does not require any network activity. Maybe that's a clue. Also, I have never crashed the phone while it is plugged into the charger. Maybe when the phone is in charging mode, the low battery monitor is not active, so it can't shut down the phone.
I have started putting adb into tcpip mode, and I've captured a few system logs of the phone as it crashed. There is no obvious crash at the end, but there are always a series of strange events, such as permission denials, and processes being killed. I think there may be an out-of-memory condition occurring. There is so much noise in the form of security violations being inserted into the log that it is difficult to determine which error is leading to the crash.
Perhaps I should try going back to Oreo 8.0.

I bought mine on eBay awhile back but don't know if anyone sells the original batteries anymore. You can try though

Really annoying problem...

Hey guys.
I'm experiencing some problems with my Touch HD. When I get it to start I'm really happy with it and every program runs as it should.
My problem is the battery or something like that. I can have the battery power at 70% one second and the next the phone is telling me to either charge the battery or the device will shut down. I try to start it again but at the start screen it says Battery level to low, your device will shut down.
When I try to charge it the LED under the power button will show a solid amber light, telling me that it's charging, for about 7-9 seconds and after that it will either start flashing between amber and green light or just turn off.
I've tried having it like that over night and try to start the phone in the morning and the same message appear on screen, "Warning! Battery level to low! Your device will shut down!"
Read in some other post about someone who had a similar problem, but not quite the same, and that was resolved by removing the battery, plug in the USB cable for a few seconds, disconnect everything and then put the battery back in and start the phone. This works for me about 30% of the time. When it works the battery shows about 60-80% power.
I've tried a hard reset and I've tried to contact HTC without any success. Any suggestions from you guys, you seem to know almost everything there is to know about these phones.

Have you tried keeping the battery out for a day?
When I got my phone, the first 7 charges I turned the phone off and charged it all the the way up (to get the calibration accurate). Now the battery life is excellent, I can use it for couple of days without charging.
You should try returning the phone, seems it is fine software wise. Can you use the phone with the charger in? If yes, then there is probably something wrong with the battery or the hardware that is interacting with the charging.
I've tried keeping the battery out for about 24 hours but it didn't help. I can't start the phone when I have it plugged to the charger. I'm going to return it today and see if they can just exchange the phone in store or if they need to ship it somewhere to be repaired

switch off wifi, install Advanced Config, select all power management enabled
and try again. i also had the situation that my hd took 1550 mA. so the battery was sucked empty within several hours. now everything runs perfect...
Have exactly the same problem
I have exactly the same problem. One moment the phone works and charges fine and the next it shows irratic battery levels and eventually needs to be shut down. Following the shutdown you get the 'Battery level too low' message on startup, right after the Smart Mobility screen. In my case I think the problem mostly started when the phone was either just connected to a PC using the sync cable or when trying to top-up the charge using the wall charger. I also noticed that when the problem appears the plug symbol would appear (indicating it is charging) or sometimes not and then when checking the battery level, the indicators would actually go down sometimes losing 2 or 3 at a time until there is only 1 left and the phone says it needs to shut down. Pluging in the wall charger does not help as the LED indicating the phone is charging only stays on for a few seconds.
Now, I had many trials with removing battery, sim card, memory card or any of those in combination and sometimes these seem to work, but I think the key is the temperature of the phone. Every time I went to the car to drive home, where it was cold, the phone would start charging again, when just before that it would not react to anything all the time I was in the warm office.
I have now contacted HTC and am sending it to their repair centre tomorrow. Hopefully this is recognised as a fault and I will get a replacement. BTW, they arranged for a free courier pickup. Not bad, but the key for me is that the phone is being replaced as I really like the phone.
Update: Got a replacement after 1 week
Got my replacement phone today and hope that this time I have no further problems. I also had to return my previous one with a screen problem (see my post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439410&page=2).
Everything went quite smootly and I liked the offer of a free of charge UPS pickup, so the only complaint I really have is that HTC send me a new phone but no replacement screen protector. Just the original screen sticker (the one with some writing on it) had been stuck on. It was in a bit of state like it had been taken off and put back on several times. I just called them to send me a replacement screen protector, but I don't hold my breath to get one. Probably end up buying it from the website.

Think I found a bad flaw in the design of the HD2.

Okay so I got my phone about a month ago, I had kept it stock for a week, went to a custom rom, and put it back to stock today.
Reasoning I went back to stock:
So I had been having an issue of not charging when I plug in the charger, the phone would recongized that it had been plugged in by bumping the battery meter to 100% instead of a charging icon. The LED light was blinking orange & green so I knew something wasn't right. I then proceeded to unplug the charger and saw that the 100% knocked down to 6% which it was at 8% when I plugged it in. After I saw that I removed the battery and tried a different battery ( brother has the same phone) and his was at 70% and I plugged in the charger and still the same thing happened.
So after this I have found out that it was the phone that had the issue as it was not charging the battery at all so I then returned to stock rom using my brothers battery and it still had the same issue.
I then saw the middle contact of the three golden contact on the back of the phone was sticking between the phone and the battery so I pulled out the battery and pushed the contact toward the phone and then I insert the battery back into the phone and then place the charger on it and then it started charging.
So now I need to confirm that this was the actual fix. Can anyone confirm that the middle contact is the actual one that charges the phone or was this just luck of the draw?
sorry for the long post but I thought this would be a big deal based on the design of the contacts aren't the best.

On most cell phone battery packs the center contact(s) are a data or temp sensor connection, the power is input during charging and drawn during use from the outer contacts.
It depends on how "smart" the battery pack is that determines exactly what those center contact(s) do. In sophisticated packs there is actually circuity inside the battery back that monitors voltage, current draw and temp on the battery to determine the battery's charge status and communicates this back to the phone over a serial data bus with those contacts. on simple battery packs the center contacts are simply connections to a thermistor to monitor the battery's temp during the charging cycle, so the phone can cut off charging power if the battery starts to overheat.
In the end, yes, if the phone cant get a connection to those center contacts, it likely will not initiate a charge cycle. Attempting to charge a lithium ion with no way to monitor it is just asking for fire or explosion
d0ug's point above is backed up by the fact that several users have had issues with charging and/or booting the HD2 when that one middle pin gets bent (which seems like a fairly common occurance in this phone).

I have also noticed, if your battery is below 50% and your using it intensively it will also stop charging the battery. When the status gets bumped up to 100% the led's will flash between red and green, this usually means there is an issue between the battery being over save charging temp, or a malfunction of the data sensor circuit in the battery. This is built into the hardware of the phone and is a safety measure.
This is from HTC Tech support this morning.
If any one elst can find out anything, im sure there would be people glad to hear.
Too bad the terminal being bent is from having to pull out the battery all the time

I've never had to pull the battery when it freezes. I just hit the red reset button. Is that not working for people?

In my case, I just never have anything pointy enough to press the reset button, at least not as handy as just sliding the batt up and out by an inch or so. I think out of all the soft-resets I've done on my HD2, maybe 2 were by pushing the little button (yellow in my case)
hmm, i just checked my center pin, its still good. Like someone said above, i also reset my phone by just poping the battery out.
Also in the same situation that i usually don't have anything around to poke the reset button. I don't think ive ever actually used the reset button yet. All my previous WinMo phones had a stylus and the reset button was on the outside of the device, no battery cover removal, so the reset button was convenient to use. Battery removal seems like the simplest thing to do, if you're already removing the battery cover, just pop out the battery
How often are you guys having to reset your phones that way that you are damaging the pin, are you rocking the battery into it, or kind of just pushing it in? i noticed that the contacts seem to only fold down, they don't fold up or push in.
Ill definitely keep in mind now to put the battery in with a slightly downward motion to make sure the pins fold down, and don't get mashed in, which is where im guessing the bending is happening for you guys
My left pin got bent from all the battery pulls I've been doing. I think it happens when you don't slide it in at the right angle as d0ug has suggested. Now every time I do it, I make sure that all the pins are contacting correctly. If my left pin gets bent outward, the phone does not power up at all. (which made me freak out thinkin I broke it) Both stock and cooked ROMs have required battery pulls occasionally. Overall, I think I have to do battery pulls WAY WAY WAY more than I did with my previous MT3G. So far I have tried Kumars and Elegancia ROMs. I wish I could find a stable ROM that requires zero battery pulls. =T
yupp had the same problem with the connectors under the battery
I went in for a refurb and used it for a day and that pin was already bent so i went back in and this one seems to be in good working condition.
I think they should have done better job with the pins as I have never had these issues with any other phone.

I'm trying out a couple of HD2s that an acquaintance had no business getting and is now looking to unload. The one is practically right out the box, the other looks like it has been around the DC loop a few times. I'm testing the well travelled one out when it looked like it needed charging, so I plug it in and start looking at the nice one. After 2hrs, I hear the tramp vibrate. When I go to see why it vibrated, it won't turn on again! It's after midnight, I haven't purchased it yet, haven't loaded a cooked ROM, haven't even run a stock update and it's already screwing up!?!? Since I had two I did some battery swaping then both went into boot loops. Many hours and a few gray hairs later, I got them both working again. I left them essentially alone until today. When the spouse went to sync the well-used of the HD2s, he noticed it needed charging. After almost an hour, he noticed that it had less charge than when he plugged it in. I noticed the charge light wasn't steady, it's flipping between red, green and nuttin'. My spouse, who had already laid claim to this HD2, did as he always does and jumped to the worst conclusion. I said make no inferences until we get home and check this forum. I knew you'd have the answer and you did not fail me! Best yet, it cost me nuttin' to fix!! Now do I point this out as a flaw for potentially lowering the sale price?

My take on this is that the flaw is in the way the battery wants to come out. When you lift using the tab on the left side, it tries to come out at an angle, angling from top left to bottom right, which means the connectors come away unevenly, and since the connector plates on the battery are inset, the plastic of the battery casing catches the pins as the battery rotates on its way up.
I keep my thumb on the battery just above the sim card until the battery is out about 45 degrees both top left and top right, and then pull it towards the top of the phone so the connectors all come away evenly, rather than being dragged up and over the pins.

CHARGING ISSUE - shouldi be worried?

I bought a second hand HD2, however it arrived with a third-party chinese battery. I contacted the seller who apologised and said that battery was a replacement because the original didn't hold a good charge, and he would send the original through the post. The battery however was fully charged so I flashed all the neccessary files and installed NAND Android (my reason for buying it in the first place), however today - the same day it arrived - I noticed that the orange charge light was going off, usually when the phone screen went off. This necessitated plugging the USB lead back in again, and within sometimes less than a minute the same problem would occur. I have checked the battery prongs, reset the the phone, changed USB settings etc and the problem persists.
Just wondered of I should be worried...I am unable to find an identical problem to this on the forums so I'm assuming it's not a ROM issue. I am currently using the Desire port from DFT.
Would a cheap Chinese battery demonstrate this sort of problem?
The seller says he never had an issue of charging the phone.
My next resort is to flash Windows Mobile back on, but I'm at work and a bit anxious so was hoping for someone with some experience to reassure me!
All USB syncing etc works fine...it is literally just charging that's the issue.
Maybe it's your USB that's faulty. I had a faulty usb that would go on and off sometimes too. However I don't see why the battery would affect the LED light, as the battery has to be connected to the phone for it to stay on, and so the battery can't be losing it's connection with the phone randomly, so it's either your usb cord, or the port.
Word of advice, don't let your phone lose power cuz of the faulty charging. I assume you know that MAGLDR doesn't let you charge the phone while off, so a dead battery in our case, is a dead phone. Happened to me once cuz of my usb, luckily there was still a small amount of charge left after i took the battery out and placed it back in.
It's definitely not the cable as I've used an official HTC charger with it which does exactly the same thing. I've also tried with a Samsung MicroUSB charger from my Galaxy S
Maybe it's the usb port then... That's the worst case scenario because you'd have to get the whole motherboard replaced...
However if in winmo you don't experience the problems, then it was just some software problems, so try a different radio and build, and see if they work.

Thing is though I can pretty much get it to stay charging if I don't let it lock and the screen go off? Could this still be a problem with the USB port? I'm getting worried now as I don't like the hassle of sending things back through eBay. I'm wondering if the seller bought a spare battery thinking it was just a battery problem and isn't telling the whole story. Foolishly I didn't test the device with Windows Mobile, I just went straight into flashing as I had put Android on my friend's HD2 the other day in exactly the same way...his is even an ex Virgin Mobile phone like this one. Needless to say, he is having no charging issues.

Hi thanks for your reply. Mine doesn't flash red and orange though: the orange light comes on as normal and the phone reports it as charging, but after a while (seems to be when the phone goes to standby most of the time) the orange light turns off and the charging symbol disappears. If I unplug and replug again the light comes back on for a period. I've not tested thoroughly but I THINK it will stay charging when I leave the phone out of standby with the screen set to stay on for 30 minutes. I really HOPE it's a battery issue but it sounds slightly different to yours as mine does at least charge to a degree. I'm worried there's a blown capacitor somewhere on the logic board that's making the phone charge malfunction but obviously there's no way of testing until I get a new battery.
It concerns me that the seller said he had no charging problems...he must have been able to charge it somehow as the battery was full when it arrived...could I have burnt something out when flashing?!

Im 100 % sure its the battery becouse the battery has a circuitboard inside of it, and thats often messed up considering its made cheap in china . But test it with your friends hd2 original battery You can 2 see if the wet indicatior has been activated
the " white " paper next to the battery poles should be white and not pink, alltso where the skrewholes of the phone that should allso be white just to make sure your phone is not waterdamaget
I don't think flashing could have burnt something out. Overclocking and generating a lot of heat can burn something out though.
Didn't you receive the stock battery? Why not try it with that, and if the problem stilll persists then it might not be the battery. Either way, it will help you to test out the phone with a stock battery.
I tried it again after a few hours and it charged for a fair while before the light went off again.
I don't have the original battery as the seller has yet to mail it to me.
Does anyone else think it's worth me trying out a stock Windows Mobile ROM to see if it works? Might be that Android ROMs are less forgiving of cheap batteries with dodgy circuitry..
UPDATE
Ok so I've flashed Windows Mobile onto the device and wiped Magldr. The phone now alternates between a green and an amber light on the charging indicator. Looks like Windows Mobile won't charge it at all!
Does anyone know what this means?
I've checked for water damage in the areas mentioned and there is no sign.
Well your best bet is to send it in for repairs. But I'd suggest you test the phone out first with a stock battery.
Well I Only bought the phone yesterday so I certainly won't be paying for any repairs.

OK so as a last resort I flashed radio 2.15 to the device. Seems that this has completely fixed the problem as without even restoring the phone is now charging properly. It seems that a corrupted radio flash had affected the charge somehow....at least I hope so.
The same problem has not come back again today at all.
Might be worth throwing this solution in a problems and solutions section as I haven't found any reference to it on the net and it might fix things for others panicking over their handsets.

was just searching is anyone had a similar problem like me. to the OP yours sounds like my problem.
Had these fake OEM batteries for a while now. Until recently they have been charging ang turning off in 1 1/2 minutes. put a genuine OEM battery in and the problem is gone.
My solution was OEM can charge thru phone but fakes cant, use fakes as backup and charge it thru a desktop charger. goodluck

[Q] Note 3 Will not turn on AT ALL

I have a Verizon Note 3 which I have had for about 2 months now, and today I was coming back from a cold trip and plugged it into the car charger via the stock USB cable, and the phone reported a gradual decrease in battery life, from 1% to 0%, indicating that the 12V connection from the car adapter wasn't charging it adequately.
A moment after it reached 0%, the device completely turned off. From that point on, I could not get the car adapter to charge the phone anymore. Thinking it was a limited volt connection with the car adapter, I gave up. Later in the day, I got home with the Note 3, and attempted to directly connect it to the wall charger via the stock USB cable, and to no avail nothing turned on and I did not note any activity.
I started troubleshooting by removing and re-inserting the battery then plugging it in, and that failed. I also tried with another regular micro-USB charger, for a standard Android device, not like the proprietary Samsung charger, and it did not work. Also, I tried connecting the charger directly to the device, without the battery attached, and that did not work. I even tried holding down the power button and home buttons for extended periods of time, but absolutely nothing flashed, beeped, and the screen did not turn on.
Please offer help, I need to know what else I can do.
I'm assuming you've tried just leaving it on the charger for a few hrs before trying to turn it on... Also, double check the connection between the battery and the phone.
Other than that, you've tried everything I would suggest. It is "possible" that the usb connection on the phone may be the issue. Next thing to try is walk it into a vzw store. I'm sure that thay have a spare battery to use and boot the phone up to verify that it charges. If it charges, maybe it's the battery? If not, it's equipment related and you need a new phone.

I have already tried to isolate the issue with the phone's battery, it seems as if I should be getting a notification or activity by just plugging the device in directly without the battery, but nothing appears even with that. Therefore, I have eliminated that it is an issue with the battery, and it is unresponsive with or without one. There would not be a point in leaving it to charge. I will have to contact either Verizon or Samsung customer support.
I had this problem happen to me before and I left it on charge for a few hours, I didn't touch the phone at all then all was good after a few hours.

So I've had some time, and I first took the device into the Verizon Wireless store for support, and was handed a phone number to call. After a large amount of hassle over the account password, I managed to speak to a Verizon rep who told me that if I was to send the phone in after receiving the replacement and "user damage" was detected, then a $400-500 fee would be automatically applied to the account.
With no clear definition of what "user damage" entitles, he gave me the option to go to the Verizon store prior to the mailing of the phone and have the reps look at it there to determine any damage. If damage was not detected, then the reps would log it, and I would not have to pay the fee.
Does anyone know of the alternatives that Samsung provides? So far my experience with Verizon support has been sketchy, and a hefty fee is possible. Has anyone had any experience with this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.samsungadh.premium?
Otherwise, I'll see if I can deal with Verizon and have them send me a new device, then see what Samsung can do for me with their device repair.
What's being referred to as "user damage", is their suspicious that the usb port may have been damaged by you. Which is possible, I guess. Would have been obvious to you if you did it. Just to be sure, carefully check the internals with a toothpick and see if anything feels loose. If you think it might be, they're gonna say it's your fault. Did you buy warranty protection? If so it will cover that and will only run you like $100-150 for replacement.

Solved
It turns out I simply connected the device to my computer and let it charge and it seems to function properly. Now I have it connected to the wall using the wall charger, and I am getting a weird phenomenon of the battery percentage actually going down while the charger is connected and the charging icon is displayed. I will provide further details later.

Now it has gotten to a point where it will charge in the computer via the USB cable, but not in the wall with the same USB cable. It is odd, because the phone shows a charging icon but the percentage actually goes down. What is going on? Please help!
try another charger. like everything else they can go bad. eliminates it as a problem if nothing else.

The device has worsened to a point where it will not charge either through the computer or through the wall charger, and when I attempt to turn the device off while the battery is charging the screen flashes and a line appears, accompanied by a continuous vibration.
I never expected to have this many problems with the phone. Is it even the battery that is the issue anymore?

I'm assuming that you are not rooted? You need a new phone. But... you said u went to Verizon, did they do anything or stare blankly and point at a ceiling tile? It's possible the battery is borked. But yoh could only check that with another battery...which at the very least a store could do! Just plug in and see if it charges +1-2% with another battery. I only ask this cuz if you replace the phone, I don't think that they send a battery. Don't want you getting a new phone, same battery, and same problem. Just for s**ts n giggles, check that the telltale water damage strip on the battery is still normal...

Oh no.......god no........the sticker on the battery has red Xs on it. I put it in a bowl of rice, the most I saw was dew on the front over the weekend, I did not submerge it or anything. I do not know if it was triggered prior to this weekend.

It turns out red X's mean that the phone is perfectly OK and no water damage has occurred. It is when the entire sticker is pink that water damage is indicated. This still doesn't solve my problem of it still having problems....I'll take it out of the rice and try turning it on.

To confirm, I am currently having a problem with the phone displaying the charging icon in the status bar and not actually charging when plugged into the wall, and instead vibrates every second and has odd orange lines and the screen flashes when the device is turned off and "charging".
When connected to the computer, the device has a RED LED light and displays the powered-off charging screen just fine. The device turns on fine, and charges normally, however with a gray charging icon, not a green one.
Another thing I noticed was that the battery went from 9% to 2% just in the time I connected the phone to the wall to the computer in the span of < a minute.
I had visited the Verizon store once and was told the store did not have the battery in stock, and I would have to call for a new phone + battery free of charge, as long as no user damage was detected on the returned defective device.
At this point, I am so confused to what is happening, I think you were right Lefty when you reccomended I should request a new battery AND device.
What jerks. There's a battery in the floor model. Oh well.
And to be honest it sounds like the battery is not the issue. You say it vibrates every sec or so? Sounds like the cable is not making a full connection. Kinda like it detects a connection. . Oh! Nope, no connection. Connection. Oh! Nope.

A little late (actually almost two months), but I have returned the device and above all of these other reasons it turns out the problem was actually in the software. When I went to reset my old Note 3, it turns out that it actually started charging properly after it was reset. Very strange, but a heads-up to anyone else having this problem to try that before you return your device.

Yeah I just tripped across this thread and was going to say to try to charge it in recovery/safestrap mode. If it's software related in the ROM, it would indeed charge in recovery mode

Battery died and now its not charging

My battery just did and no blinking lights. Now my phone won't charge. Can someone help?
Could be manufacturer defect. Your only option might be to contact BlackBerry and have them swap it under warranty. I would just to be safe.

This happened to my Nexus 6 last year, ended up having to get a replacement from Google.
Problem with Battery
If your handset is a new one, then a replacement or you may visit to store & get it checked with a professional.
If It is new smartphone, then you can replace it. Other wise I do suggest you to do that first remove your battery and clean with soft cloth and put after some time then check it. It happens some time it will not showing charging. Sop always remember that charge your mobile, then battery percentage gone below 10%

it could be the battery NOT a defect
Hopefully by now you found the same advice on CrackBerry as I did last night - just hold the power button on the left of the phone until it comes on.
Mine has adopted the habit of not appearing to charge or do anything once the battery hits '0%' and dies - it can lay dormant for a few days even - my advice is hook it up to a micro USB cable charging with at least 2 Amps, then hold the power button until it starts. This can take 30 seconds or more.
And for those helpful people guessing you can swap out the battery - they obviously never went near a Priv.
I've had this issue multiple times. Solved (note, not trivial, skills and tool required!) by plugging it into a decent charger for an hour or so (might not show its charging) and thereafter removing the back cover, unscrewing the battery connector, and removing it with a pair of tweezers. Amazing that the phone comes back to life when you plug it back in. I didn't replace the screws on the battery connector so its easy to do in future.
Try using a high voltage charger, such as the one in the car...It works for me
