Oos best kernel - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

What is the best kernel for battery with performance on xxx oos rom ?

Lightning, Xceed, Flash, stock kernel... U can´t go wrong with anyone.

i prefer Zenith because of the EAS. best battery life i've had, and little to no sacrifice in performance.

Render Zenith latest version should do fine. At times I felt it's smoother than the stock one and battery life is very good.
Changing stune to 15 using exkernel would increase the battery life further.

But how you are getting 10 hrs
I am amazed could you share some tips what you do

If you want stability and the best performance don't use xXx No Limits ROM in the first place. Not only is No Limits much less stable than stock OOS (which isn't exactly rock solid in the first place) but the performance of No Limits is noticeably inferior to stock OOS with Blu Spark kernel.

I usually get approx 8 hours sot with gaming. 10 hours is the max I got and it was because I was mostly streaming football matches and watching videos in YouTube. A little bit of social networking too along with that. Also I use the Swift black theme on substratum. So that'll save some battery in most apps with the theme's black backgrounds. Also I use Gerald Rudi's profile in doze settings editor. But no idea if that saves any battery. ?

Ironically, I had random reboots on both unrooted stock H2OS and OOS. As soon as I rooted my phone and installed NoLimits, I never had a random reboot again although some people of the ROMs thread seem to experience occasional reboots.

[Q] Optimal Setup for Nexus 4?

Hi!
I got my Nexus 4 three days ago.
My Usage Specs -
I use my N4 mainly for internet ( WiFi, sometimes 2G ) and a little bit of gaming. I make occasional calls and text rarely.
I don't use WhatsApp or Facebook.
I'm using STOCK ROM+Kernel.
I'm getting around 10-12 hours of battery life, with 4-5 hours of screen-on time.
Now, I want to be able to over/under clock & volt my CPU+GPU. This is to increase battery life and increase performance, as required.
It looks like too much choice is very confusing. So, I'd like some experienced suggestions and recommendations.
So, which _ should I use? ( And, I've already narrowed down the choices a bit )
Kernel - Faux, Motley, Franco
ROM - AOSP(Stock), CyanogenMod, Paranoid Android, Xylon
Also, should I use Battery, CPU, RAM managers? If so, which ones?
What are some cool, useful N4 specific apps?
Any other tweaks and tips? - You can link to other xda threads, if available.
I will be unlocking and rooting tomorrow, once I decide which kernel+ROM to use.
Thanks!
Ram and battery managers are not necessary. You have 2GB of ram. Battery saver apps do not work. besides you said you're getting 4-5 hours of screen time. That's great!
Download greenify. It's a great app.

OP, "best ROM/kernel" questions are not allowed here. You will have to experiment and see.

Hi,
I understand that you are trying to prevent flame-wars and the like, however, I'm not looking for 'the best kernel/ROM'.
I want to know which combinations and configs other people have used, and I'd like some experienced suggestions.
I'm finding it confusing to differentiate between the variety of kernels and roms available, so I wanted some recommendations - preferably, with reasons.
Thanks!

I use Paranoid Android with its stock kernel. For me, no other rom can compare to Pa on the nexus 4! Not even cyanogen mod is as fluid, stable, and efficient. With my current setup I get around 16 hours battery life (5:30 am-11ish pm), with ~5 hours screen on time. I don't use any task killers or memory managers. I just make sure to force close all my apps when I'm done with them, and I reboot the phone every 24 hours to keep it at its maximum performance. Although my usage is slightly different. I use my phone mainly to browse the Web, text and occasionally snap some pictures and check instagram. Hopefully this helps you out a bit

Trinity and Franco kernel works great with PA. And so does semaphore. I use Franco kernel mainly because I get more screen time than any other kernel I've used. Franco kernel delivers a balance between smoothness and great battery life.

Okay, and you use PA too?
Also, how does the kernel affect smoothness? Shouldn't the performance be the same as long as you don't change clock speeds? Or is it due to the new governors that the kernel uses?
Also, what about motley kernel? The thread is very spartan, and I can't glean much info about it.
Has anyone tried Xylon? - it looks efficient.

I've tried the Franco kernel before but I find the stock PA one to be perfect as far as colors go. I've never had an issue with smoothness using it and I don't even worry about clock speed or governors. As far as xylon goes, I found it to be very washed out using the stock kernel that comes with the rom, again in terms of display. When I ran xylon for a few days, I ran into a few hiccups in performance that weren't acknowledged, even when running with different kernels. I've also tried AOKP, Cyanogen, and axiom, but I always return back to paranoid

HI!
So I have experimented and tested most of the major kernels and ROMs.
AND..... My selection/combo for now is:
kernel - Franco Milestone 2
ROM - Carbon 1.7
I tried Paranoid Android, but I didn't really like their interface adjustments.
And, just CyanogenMod is boring, IMO. Xylon, too.
Carbon has great customisation, and the specific adjustments that I like.
Thanks for the help!
Others - feel free to continue post your suggestions and recommendations for kernel+ROM combos.

Drivers with code from Code Aurora. They *may* fix stuff like slow WiFi speeds and delayed notifications. I personally use them but if you don't experience any problem with WiFi then I suggest flashing the normal ones. :fingers-crossed:
Try Matr1x kernel, gave me the best results when I tried through different ones.

I think I'll use the normal ones.
My internet speed is 4 Mbps and I don't use my WiFi to transfer files at all.
At the moment I'm getting the speeds I can technically get. So those won't help me, I guess.
Also, I've been running R140 without any problems for the last day.

performance v50018 vs 20a

I installed the new official rom v50020a and are disappointed with performance especially in games. That performance was superior v18a. This rom seemed to me the most powerful than all roms, since the battery is emptied very quickly, especially in stand by. In AnTuTu benchmark 18a give almost 27,000 and v20a less than 24,000. In Real Racing 3 feel the difference. V50020a is final rom for OTA? Performance and battery worse than the first official rom. I think I'll go back to 4.2.2.

The problem is that the rom v18 of battery empties very quickly in standby. I have to install a custom rom based on v18 with another kernel.

What do you call 'very quickly'? I found it emptied slower than with 4.2.2 in standby with WiFi on.
I set the wi-fi to be turned off when the tablet is in stand by. It is among the settings after installing a new rom.

I overdid it a little with unloading the battery. Battery runs exactly I was wi-fi settings on standby.

Did you notice any difference on the screen brightness, gamma values and 7 spots on the bottom?
Jessooca said:
The battery life is actually better,by nearly 2 hours. I have tested and ran it for 5 days, it's all about your settings. If you have the screen on 50% one day or 65% another day it's always going to fluctuate.
Theres no complaints about the battery life with 18 here, easily I get 2 hours more. Some days 4.

The fix for Watching Amazon Prime is in a thread by, i believe it was Surviveland....
Make sure that you have UNinstalled the flash player installed in your device if you have one installed first and then install the hacked one for compatibility reason.
1) Download Dolphin Browser from the Play Store
[/B]You MUST have Dolphin Jetpack on in the settings to enjoy it.
As far as I have noticed, Dolphin Jetpack better solves the compatibility with flash player, such as crash issue & freeze issue in full screen.
2) Download the hacked flash player HERE: http://goo.gl/MuU9SU
If your device refused to install apk outside Google Play, you need to change your settings in your device (Settings> Securities> Unknown resources) to allow installation of apps from unknown sources.
3) Make sure that the flash setting in Dolphin Browser (Click Menu>Settings>Web Content>Flash Player) is on.

I posted the link in comment no 4 .. And for me no lags at all camera is good and you can install moto or htc's camera to get very good quality
+1
Just installed the ROM and it's the fastest and lag-free AOSP rom I've found.
+1 for PA. I have gone through almost every ROM available for my D851 and either had lag or heat issues. Holy crap this one is smooth. I'm running it now with Nebula kernel with the bioshock governor and heat issues are gone. It had been hitting 70C just charging and using Chrome, now it stays below 60, and right now is hovering at 55C. I miss a couple of features, but it is too slick to change.
Exodus is the best aosp rom for me
and the camera quality?
Well I'm on stock Rom with Gabriel kernel on Smartmax governer and Alucard hotplug ... And the phone is very good in battery and performance ... It reaches 49 °C when idle or screen off & 55-60 °C when charging and used for some time .... It hits 70°C on heavy usage ... And performance outs really good ... Very minimal lags some times but with animations adjusted to 0.5 in developer options out seems blazingly fast ...

Smoothest custom ROM (and maybe kernel) for OnePlus 6T now ?

Hello guys,
So I'm rocking OxygenOS Open Beta 4, coming from Stable 9.0.12. I find OxygenOS to be very fast, but not that smooth as animations are often choppy. I've wondered which is the smoothest ROM (with 60fps animations all the time if that's possible) and kernel if it can change anything. Thanks in advance for answers.

If it's that serious for you...simply increase animation speeds to 1.25x or 1.5x. It'll be "smoother" if that's all that you care about...
None of the custom kernels out there make the phone any smoother or perform any better than stock...their improvements come more from the added customization and features they offer. Anyone seriously suggesting otherwise is bullshitting IMO, at best you might get a few extra points in some synthetic benchmark and marginally better battery life.
None of the custom ROM's I've tried (personally) perform any better than stock OOS, and most are buggier and less stable anyway. My experience at least...
FWIW, I have an iphone 8 Plus and an XR I also use daily. Putting your Oneplus 6T's animations speeds to 1.25x will have it opening and closing windows very similiarly to stock IOS 12+ animation speeds.
LineageOS
Kernel holydragon.
I'm using posp rom and really happy with it. Really fast, stable and good battery life.

If that doesn't work for you, just use a 3rd party launcher and customize the animations to your satisfaction...
Again simply setting the animator durations from 1x to 1.25x on all three animation settings will likely give you what you're looking for.

I think I might need to turn them off completely or get used to it. Today I tried iPhone XS Max and with very fast app switching I was able to capture animation slowdown. Maybe there's no phone without 0 lags at all and that's just it.

You're right there is no thread and probably never will be. There's a telegram channel though. You can search it within the app and will find it easily. Don't know if I'm allowed to share it here, that's why.
But it's reaaaally smooth and fast. Battery is awesome as well but I've only been running it since 12 hrs so let's see how the battery will even improve more.

Can I stay encrypted and avoid wiping my entire phone if I flashed this from OOS stable 9.0.12? I think it's time to jump to a Custom ROM but I want to avoid long downtime. Thanks

Nope. You need to wipe data as you have on any other custom Rom too.

Rooting

I finally rooted and flashed a good kernel, putting it under test ATM.
I wanted to ask if flashing the XXX NoLimits magisk module worth it and really improves the experience on the OP 8 Pro, since it's not a ROM, it's only a Magisk module (flash type).
I don't mean anything to the team, I heard it was great but I just don't want to mess my phone up with modules and other things, thanks

I used to flash xxx on the OnePlus 5, it was a full ROM back then but it was the best out of them all..
If the module is anything like the ROM then yes it's well well worth it, the developer gets so much right so for me it would be a go to ROM / Magisk ROM
I wouldn't even touch the optimization settings and stuff, no modern device needs them.
Maybe only debloat but that's it.

Id 100% turn off the page file no device with more that 4GB ram needs swap storage certainly not a phone with 12GB, the improvement in regards to gaming is night and day, so yep there is that.
Haven't flashed xXx so not sure what is on offer.
I have a saved config file from my time with the OnePlus 5 with xXx so I'll check on that and whatevers new.

Yep, it's a Magisk ROM, I'll surely give it a try soon.
I'm currently running stock OOS with Omega kernel, it's running very good.

Same, I have the 12gb RAM version so I don't think that any of these tweaks would really help, but I'll try some in the future, you know, we don't have much at the moment, the price of the phone is really high.
I run xXx with my own custom config on a OP8Pro 12GB/256GB with most tweaks emailed and zram disabled completely. Runs noticably faster overall. Snappier and launch times are super low. Also, even tho audio is good, the Viper + Dolby mod from xXx takes the speakers to a whooooole new level lol.
I always ran xXx on my old OP5 as well and it was great even tho I switched to Paranoid after a while just because I really love that UI style and customization. When PA Quartz is a bit more stable on the OP8Pro I will switch anyways but with xXx the stock ROM doesn't really miss anything that EdXposed and Gravitybox + Button Mapper + GCam can't fix like battery circle with percentage in it and flashlight shortcuts.

I rooted and flashed xXx along with Smurf kernel but I'm facing some issues with battery life, it's draining slightly faster than before. Other than that, the device is so responsive, fast and fluid.
I disabled zRAM completely and kept it all stock, that's the weird part but I hope I get better results this week. ??

Well, there's your problem. Smurf kernel.
I would stay very far away from that kernel.

Why? I think it mainly aims for performance and of course some battery improvements but not that much, it's not that bad.

That kernel is all about overclock and obselete poorly coded "tweaks" that are not need on a modern smartphone, especially not on Snapdragon 865.

You know better than me, I'm not much into these things but you know, one that says it's great and the other says it's bad, the only way to know is to test it myself.
I tested the kernel, it's close to stock in terms of performance but the battery in stock is better.
The reason I'm using it is because I'm running xXx module which is best with Smurf kernel but I might get everything back to stock and test another kernel without the xXx module. Any recommendations?
EDIT: I just flashed blu spark kernel, I'll test it and tell you how it performs ?

Haven't flashed it but tbh the 865 is a beast of chip, it can easily run Dreamcast ROMs which is just staggering really. To push the chip any further is just not required.
For me if you can obtain the performance you get from the stock kernel and save battery then go for whatever that kernel is, from experience on all my device save maybe the galaxy S3 the stock kernel usually provides the best balance of performance / stamina, all the more so with current chipsets.
Aim for battery, performance should take care of itself.
If you're pushing for more performance I would ask myself for what?
I personally push my device more than most, not all the time but the emulators I run are probably the most demanding programs you can get on Android, if I'm good with the output of FPS on them at stock then I think you'll be fine too.

You're right, even though I flashed some kernels but I didn't really notice any improvements in the performance, the device is too fast and doesn't need junk tweaks to be improved, but the battery is better now with the kernel I'm running. Thanks for advising me brother
