Hey man,
What are the benefits of using the attached? It's been one heck of a long week so I apologize for the question but my brain is fried.
Thanks!
yes what does this do exactly?
Here's what's inside that mystery file COMBINATION_FA70_G955USQU1AQF1_CL11488480_QB13764151_REV00_user_mid_noship_MULTI_CERT.tar
Holy **** eng bootloader?
Does this mean that we can push fastboot commands???
I sure hope soo...
If this is what I think it is, thank you friend.
Think this might just be the SamFAIL version for our phones.
Anyone flash this yet?

Hi, who are you?
If this is the combination rom you can find EVERYWHERE online it's not even rooted is just the same base that both sampwnd and samfail use for permissive and no dm-verity.
So a few things:
1) not eng boot, factory boot.
2) is this even rooted? How?
3) AQF is an ancient rom so the screen quality is going to suck pretty bad, and it may also have sdcard issues.
3) I don't remember even being asked about using samfail for a g955u rom, much less did I agree to something like this. Even if I have and forgot, I don't even see a credit here.
Can you please send me a pm? I don't want to be that guy but if you want to do something associated with me it will need some work

I would be happy to help get you folks a working rom, although my deodexed debloated one with improved root method is preferable . I just need someone to test and ultimately drive the thread, as it's hard to without having the device.
Hi,
i need to told you a few things: i own a SM-G9550 and with this method its possible to inject any system.img.ext4 in a factory rom to boot with factory bootloader and factory rom. That Method from the 9550 version with COMBINATION_FA70_G9550ZCU1AQD1_CL11093793_QB13104165_REV00_user_mid_noship_MULTI_CERT.tar works perfect. you can extract the Factory Rom and you need to replace the system.img.ext4 only. and use 7zip to create a .tar for AP in Odin.
I do not own the US version but the method should be the same. Why i think this should work? Because if i try in 9550 Rom to flash the System.ext4 from custom China roms this dont work. only with factory roms its possible to inject the custom System.img.ext in that AP Files. Because the xbl.elf and the abl.elf. if you want you can replace them with a factory one. that should flash the custom System.img.ext . i can proof you my method with my 9550 rom with custom System.img.ext4 i will upload this version soon. i hope the 9550 owner can verify that.
with that odin you can flash without sha errors https://mega.nz/#!Mj4zARYD!PvzMHnGO9lyrRHn0qTHdJMIycJs30ANGLXiS_F6FZVI

Just a FYI for Snapdragon S8+ owners:
@partcyborg discovered SamFail; he owns a S8, so that's why many Snapdragon S8+ owners may not realize the aforementioned.

I am not sure. If it only charges to 80% battery, then it's not new. @partcyborg may be able to best answer your question. I've never used SamFail (i.e., just know how), because I've kept root since SamPWND and easily kept FlashFire flashing latest T-Mobile system.img.ext4 (+ system root SuperSU zip) and latest Odin flashing latest T-Mobile CP + CSC. To be sure, there is newer combo firmware based upon what @partcyborg wrote.
Not to be a downer, but if it's SamFAIL it's definitely just root which would also still mean 80% battery life. In which case, for some one looking to gain an improvement on your phone, move along. It is just another root method for those who wish to go about it differently for whatever reason.

I asked the op to at least take samfail out of the name, as I have no idea what this is or how it even works or if it's rooted. I do know for sure it's not the end firmware as our devices can't even boot them.
@TheBigEasy88 ok since you all sorts got the bait and switch here I will try and see what I can do this week if you are able to test it. A lot of my s8 rom was trial and error though so it may be difficult. Although someone with a s8+ accidentally flashed my s8 rom and it worked fine outside of the screen being rotated. So maybe I can confirm it at least doesn't bootloop myself.
I can at least do the heavy debloat (while keeping most of the useful Samsung features) and deodex. I may need to have you all flash a zip instead of preinstalling the mods I added cause I had to do those on the phone. Let me see if I can find some time this week to knock this out.

Excellent! I wanted some confirmation from someone with the same phone (unlocked AT&T on N.)
Have you remained rooted since? I'm hearing mixed reports about performance and things stop working.) My primary concern though is our locked bootloaders. If we make changes that cause problems can we undo it? Like flashing the stock firmware? Thanks

Yes, I have remained rooted, but I ended up going back to stock G935A and then rooting again with that procedure. Personally, I was not getting the performance I was used to with the G935U as I was with the G935A with the root procedure.
Yes, there are some things that do not work with these eng.imgs that are being used to root the phones. There is NO Xposed for this one, Samsung Pay does not work, but I have been using Android Pay and it works just fine. As for the Bootloader, it is still LOCKED. There has not been any Unlocked bootloaders for the G935 or G930 so far and I don't think we will see it anytime soon.
As for Undoing, yes. There is a very simple way to go back to stock with Odin. In fact, about once a month, I return to stock just so I can get the latest security patch and then re-root my phone back to this way. I know it is somewhat of a pain, but with Titanium Back up I can get my phone back to running normally in a couple of hours.
Hope this helps...
It's not quite as fast, but if you are backing up and restoring to the same device, you can just use ADB. I still have a TiBu license, and use it on my Tab S2, but I have largely adapted to not having root on my S7 by taking advantage of basic ADB features.

One followup--when you say Xposed doesn't work, do you mean you tried the newest Nougat version that just got released? Or it never worked, not even on M?

What I meant was Xposed doesn't work on the current version of root using the eng.img. I have not tried using the NEW Xposed that is in THIS thread. I have looked at it but have not had a chance to run the zipped file and installing it. I know it works with MM as I had it working GREAT with MM and the eng.img with that version. I love Xposed and wish that was available for Nougat and N's root. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will be fully implemented soon.

I tried this 4 times and failed. The problem is it just keeps rebooting (about every 45 to 60 seconds) after I flash the eng boot img. Im never able to run adb commands. If I start from a clean slate I can't even make it past the setup screens to enable debugging.
I'm reaching out to you because you succeeded with the same model SM-G935U
So I'm just seeing if you have any insights. My phone should be the same as yours. Only difference is mine came with 7.0 preinstalled. Maybe an earlier firmware? But that doesn't make sense because people are, to my understanding, using the eng boot with recent firmware.
I'll repost in the root thread if I need to but thought I'd see if you have anything to offer. Thanks

I seem to remember the constant rebooting on the U-Firmware also. I too kept trying and it finally took. I think I would take the OTA from the server and try to install the eng.img with Odin. When you do this, does Odin give you any errors? Or does it succeed at the installation?
It has been a few months since I rooted the U-Firmware so not for sure what fixed the rooting process. Sorry I couldn't be more help...

Thanks. No Odin works perfectly whether I flash eng boot or stock.
I looked at the root guide for Sprint and the process is a lot more involved. I believe he boots to recovery twice and wipes cache plus factory reset twice. He also stresses to get the root.bat run quickly to avoid bootloop.
Might be worth a shot but the process of running Odin, getting back to stock and restoring all my data winds up being close to a few hours so It'd be very helpful to find someone with the same issue as me who was able to resolve it.
Has anyone been successful with rooting the Canadian variant using SamPWND method?
I've been too busy at work to try myself up to this point but would like to root and use the XAC or CHR CSC firmware for the system.img.ext4.
This has been asked in the SamPWND root post but answers are vague at best.
I am too is eager to root my s8 sm-g950w from Rogers, I don't care about unlocking the bootloader or custom roms or any in-depth customisation, I'm fine with Samsung's skin. I just want root access to use things like "freedom" for in app purchases or "gameguardian" and other apps that benefit from root.
Hope there is a method soon
Same here I am also wondering if there is a root for the Canadian version of the s8. And maybe sometime a boot loader unlock as well

So apparently it's the same procedure as the 950u version I'm going to try it on mine soon and I'll let youkbkw if it works or not
It is a sm-g950u. Look at the fine print on the lower back of your phone.
sorry that is what i mean to say sm-g950u but im trying this for the sm-g950w with telus as the carrier
The actual root method (SamPWND) will work but whether I can use the Canadian firmware is what I'm wondering. I don't want to use the 950U or U1.
I'm going to try but it'll be another week before I'm home and can do it.

Thanks for letting me know. Just downloaded the Telus firmware and have been thinking about giving it a go. Will probably break down and use a US firmware at some point here. I thought I had made my peace with not having root but seeing that people have Xposed working too is pushing me over the edge to try. Not that keen on 80% battery though. Got spoiled by the battery life on my Pixel XL before it died and find I have to charge my S8 quite a bit more with fully working battery.
Hi all. Yeh the telus image did not work for me. Either. What I ended up doing to still have root is not to flash the image with flash fire. Basicly after I got super su on my phone I stopped

What kind of issues do you have after rooting?? Everything all good just following the guide?
Yeh I unrooted yesterday because it was to glitchy for me some apps I use like air audio did not work well and a few others. and like I said earlier the telus firmware gave that locked phone error so i kept the modified firmware on it overall I don't recommend if you are given that error and using just the modified firmware. and on top of it the 80% battery was a issue also.

My understanding is that we can use the 950U1 firmware to do the second method where root is more stable but I haven't tried it yet.
So your saying we just need to wait for another method?? Glitchy root isn't worth it. Sounds like there's way too many issues not to mention it being too unstable

What's wrong with using the U1 firmware for flashing the second part?
It's an unbranded/unbloated version which has all the US and Canada frequencies.
You can dial *#243203855# (or make a shortcut to the activity Preconfig with ShortcutMaster) and select XAA or XAC then select "Do not change QA" which will lock in the CSC settings permanently without switching based on the inserted sim.
As far as waiting for another method, probably not a good idea since the US root took months and many devs to come alive.
If you do Part 2 with the U1 firmware it shouldn't be too glitchy. The 80% battery remains. There's a fix for the green screen issue.
I'm not sure what is lost by switching to US firmware from the Canadian firmware, if anything.

Hi
Getting luck with rooting Rogers s8 ??? (G950w) i try getting info but theres no clean explication for us
hey everyone, so ive always at some point when time permitted ended up rooting and putting a custom rom on my phone. So im fairly familiar with unlocking boot loaders and rooting phones and so i started with my sm-g935v. Its terribly laggy and I just threw Oreo on my 2nd device a nexus 6 and its super fast. The lag is killing me. First i knew i had to root so I found a method using Odin flashing a CF root. Boom now when it boots it shows an unlocked lock and says custom. Great, moving on to installing a customer recovery like twrp im finding out no you cant because the bootloader is locked? is this true? is that icon just an indication i modified the system that and thats it. Anyway, reading more seems like this engineering root caused it to be even more laggy and if i turn on wifi forget it, super laggy.
I see some people doing modified stock roms that debloat but are still plague with lag from the root? Does this all add up correctly? Am i able to undo this CF root and just flash stock vzw back so it doesnt show custom when it boots? I was thinking of just trashing it and getting a pixel 2 but i like tinkering and definitely cant handle not finishing a job. This would be my first failed attempt at putting a custom rom on a phone.
TLDR: is it still true to this day i can only root but not unlock bootloader, install custom recovery and put say lineageos on my sm-935v ? the feels man...
Yeah, it's very locked down. We can't unlock the bootloader and we can't root without lag...
Hey guys. First post. Be nice. ?
I AM NOT A DEVELOPER. I FOUND THIS BY ACCIDENT.
I hated how my S7 Edge G935V worked with the engboot. So I stopped using the phone. Figured I'd play around with again and flashed the G935U firmware. After that I rooted by flashing the engboot thinking it may be smoother than on the g935v firmware. Obviously, I was disappointed. In a last ditch desperate attempt I flashed the stock BL file from the G935U firmware and lo and behold, it worked. I have NO LAG AND ROOT!
EDIT
When I flashed the BL file I checked "phone bootloader update" on Odin.

I am on this rom right now: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...sungpay-norootrequiredtoinstallorrun-t3748717
It is unrooted until you want to make changes, you apply root, make changes, and turn off root and you can continue using apps that won't work with root. Plus you don't get the root lag because you won't be on root all the time.
I will miss custom roms, but this is a great alternative.

It is unrooted until you want to make changes, you apply root, make changes, and turn off root and you can continue using apps that won't work with root. Plus you don't get the root lag because you won't be on root all the time.
I will miss custom roms, but this is a great alternative.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I believe the lag is from the eng boot, not root access. Correct? If so, who cares if you can root and unroot?

Hey guys. First post. Be nice.
EDIT
When I flashed the BL file I checked "phone bootloader update" on Odin.

https://forum.xda-developers.com/at...7-0-g935uoym4bqd2-4-11-17-g935u-t3616834/amp/
Download G935U ODIN Firmware
Thanks @MafiaIlluminati
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=745425885120745969
I used PrinceComsys Odin.
Download Link.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AQuCcQ3MFskTc4yj_WODUYsZ1DGdHaKT/view?usp=drivesdk
1. I flashed my g935v with these firmware files. (I was already rooted with ENGBOOT so I checked "Phone Bootloader Update" in odin).
2. After that, I flashed the engboot.
Engboot Download
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1neJqdeOaxWklBgREfzoh6NVroa_I6mTl/view?usp=drivesdk
3. Then I rooted. Download the file below.
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=889764386195909311
Then follow this method from @jrkruse. (Just the root part).
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-s7-edge/how-to/root-method-nougat-t3566978
4. Then I flashed the BL file in the BL slot from the g935u firmware with odin and checked "Phone Bootloader Update"
Congratulations! You are ROOTED WITH NO LAG!
I would love to see reports from others who were able to do this successfully, and what their experience is like afterward.

Somebody on another thread is testing. He made a mistake last night as I guess I wasn't clear in my instructions. I think he will give it another go.
I have been using this this phone for 2 days and it is AWESOME! updated all stock apps to s8 apps, deodexed with lucky patcher, installed xposed, and gravity box works beautifully. All will absolutely NO LAG! Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

I have done this as well and it works fine but I am getting conflicted speed tests. I am going to try some different CPU configurations to see if I can't get it running smoother. I really do think @ars18 is on to something here.
These were some of my first results but we are messaging back and forth to make sure the directions i was able to follow and that i am not messing anything up. I am a simple man and not as smart as most you ?.
I've just flashed back to stock and set my phone how I wanted it because of the lag from the ENG boot.img...now I find this and I'm tempted to wipe/redo everything... Subscribed to this thread so I can read more thoroughly when I get to work on Monday.
After new BL

What app is that?
---------- Post added at 08:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:38 PM ----------
Nvm I found it. Did a test on stock rom/no root. Not bad results.

***I've tried adding the picture as an attachment through the XDA app but it's giving me a bad request error so I just used imgur.
I flashed the full G935T Firmware to my Verizon S7 (G935V), and I've not had any problems, rooted or not. I'm only saying this because the verizon s7 device can actually accept any firmware designed for a US Galaxy S7. It isn't a secret or anything. I really have all 4 firmware files for the G935T installed to my G935V right now no questions asked in ODIN. It's been this way for like a year now. Full Operations, no bugs.
My question is, how is it that all the carriers colluded to lock the device down in the same way. Who is actually responsible for this? Can all 5 Firmware versions available to this device really be locked in the same manner with no loophole manageable? I don't get it.
It really makes me feel like there was an effort outside of the OEM's/Carriers to make sure the Galaxy Devices starting with the S6 would never fully be root-able. It makes me feel like when ChainFire gave up on Samsung, all of sudden the devices are no longer unlock-able like they used to be. Is this just coincidence in the order of events regarding root and newer devices?

Thats not a bad rating at all. When I was using the eng_bootload file it was down around 6 and my cpu was always running high. Battery was crap and phone got hot soo easy. If you want to include your image in the post all you need to do is wrap the img in the square brackets like other forums the [ and ]. (IMG "Image Info")http link here(/IMG) but instead of the half circle use the half square.
Crap I think I just confused everyone including myself. Anyhow there is also a paper clip icon you can upload images right to this site or there is an icon with a sun and mountains, that lets you embed images like below this writing.

Not sure if u followed my method exactly. My phone is PERFECT
---------- Post added at 02:25 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:21 AM ----------
The reason why my method shouldn't work is because of the fact that doing this should make the phone unbootable. Usually the phone will recognize that it is played around with. That's why this is so awesome. STOCK AND ROOTED!
Just to make sure I understand this, you're using the stock Verizon firmware on the phone, but with the booloader from the unlocked firmware, and it works (and it has an unlocked bootloader)?
Is there a way to do this without wiping the phone (and having to reinstall all apps and settings)? Can that be done by using HOME_CSC instead of CSC?

I have the verizon g935v.
I'm using the stock unlocked version of the s7 edge firmware G935U. The flash the ENGBOOT and root. After that, flash the BL file from the unlocked firmware while checking "phone bootloader update" in Odin. Can't think of a way to do this without wiping.

Aha - so you're *not* using the Verizon firmware.
It is possible install G930U bypassing BL binary 5 of the last G930P firmware. Only installing AP, CP and CSC?

You can definitely try it. Last I recall bootloader checks kernel during bootup and if it doesn't match the one that is shipped with the current bootloader it fails to boot hanging at the bootloader screen. If it doesn't work you can always flash back to your current configuration.

Has anyone tried this yet besides the video maker? I thought a similar method was used involved flashing bootloaders through flashfire that hard bricked phones. Maybe @jrkruse could chime in about this. I've thought about this method, but that hard brick potential turned me off.
This is really great though if it really works!

Yes it works. you'll be missing some non-major settings and maybe have some odd extra settings. but overall it works. some kind of BL fusion involved due to showing BLv6 in DL mode. so don't try to odin the U Firmware v4 Bootloader after its completed, bc if you think you can be totally fresh off the v4 UFirm, you'll get bricked and have to start all over again. in other words ... its a BLv6 with the mask of a UFirm BL4. also, best to use Google Keyboard bc the stock keyboard will have issues. GL!
Big Ups to the guy who introduced this video as well as the creator of the video! I was finally able to make use of this phone by giving it away to someone in a 3rd world country! Love all around for those who made this possible!

I'm not familiar with your issue. But you can factory reset it to remove the root. Anything else i couldn't help you there. After i saw that the phone was on BLv4 with U Firmware. I did a factory reset through recover mode. Anything else you do i can't help you from there. The phone is no longer in my hands and all that is mention in my quote is all that i can help you with. GL!
The Current Latest TWRP for the v10 H901, v3.2.1, done by TWRPbuilder, was missing many options and settings,
For the most part it worked, but screen settings was wrong, my device about overheated and I like to have my screen
blink off after 60 secs..
So I took the latest STOCK N source and used the twrpbuilder.jar file to create a device tree from the STOCK Recovery..
edited the device tree to allow everything to work like it should. then built TWRP, tested and works......

If anyone remembers me, I did hold on to my v10 this whole time.. but as I said before, the famous LG Bootloop got my V10, and LG fully Replaced it free of charge and it came back with Nougat, which means No root,
I seen that someone came up with root for it.. so I finally rooted it.. but needed to fix that twrp you all had....
also I sold my HTC10, after doing everything I could over there.. I got tired of HTC, and wanted to give LG another chance.. some say im crazy, but I love challenges..
anyhow I also bought a LG G6 for a good price....... and im not sure if I will get the g7 yet.. still going to wait a bit and see what happends.......
I just hope my freshly built TWRP seems to work better for you all that try it.......
Since I left v10 a while back, I also started a ROM, Yeah, PureFusionOS is mine.. I was main Founder of it......... with over 10k installs.
Dont believe me? Look for your self: https://stats.purefusionos.com/
We havent done much since last year.. but just now currently working on updates and kinda waiting on P.................
maybe I can bring it to this device.. who knows..

I never said it wasn't. I was only explaining that LG removed the flashing commands from fastboot (they only left us with the unlock command and a few other non destructive commands (like getvar)), and that you will need to thoroughly read read read the thread I linked and follow the instructions to a T or you will run the risk of bricking your phone. LG really made it easy to brick this phone if you don't know what you are doing. That thread does state that you shouldn't brick, but if you don't get it right you'll have to flash the kdz (which is linked in another thread somewhere) to start over.

Once you have the other twrp installed (https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-v10/general/root-h901-nougat-t3773942) boot to twrp and flash the twrp.img from this thread after you extract it from the .tar. If your on any firmware above 10c LG only gave us the fastboot unlock command, the fastboot boot and fastboot flash commands have been removed. This has been stated many times and in many threads. It has also been stated before to use the proper threads for asking questions, which is one of the rules of xda.
This thread is for the development of this version of twrp.
Those of us that have been rooting since day 1 understand that every phone is different and rooting evolves with the tighter security from the oems. Many of us started with windows phones here on xda before Android was born, or nokia "smart" phones before that.

Honestly if you have to ask how to install twrp, I wouldn't recommend flashing it at all....
if you been doing this for years, then you would know that how to install it requires ROOT or some special way since this is the T-mo threads meaning H901,
BTW peepz, if you think gaining root for the v10 is a trick in its self, try the G6 way.. talk about risky business there.. by the same person..............
NOTE: that doesnt mean TRY the G6 way on the v10,
anyhow. you can flash twrp through your already made recovery or some app that has root......
I flashed this twrp through the recovery that I get when I used the ROOT method on latest ROM......................
I just didnt like the fact that half the options were missing........... I did do another build.. but I didnt release that yet on here.....
if anyone is still having issues, maybe I should upload the other build for you to try..

I just got hit with the infinite bootloop on my device unfortunately, and modified this twrp image to only use the little cluster: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=818222786056035329 . The cmdline additions are only: maxcpus=4 boot_cpus=0-3. Just in case anyone else wants it
Edit: given the prevalence of this bug, I'd honestly recommend people just keep a 4core twrp flashed on their device for if/when they run into it so it's easier to deal with.
