Hello guys, I'm on Sprint and did everything possible nothing works any ideas. Thanks
UPDATE:i just found out that my phone only does that while connected to clearwire towers, on Sprint towers everything works fine, i called Sprint and no luck trying to convince then is the tower, they say is the phone i have to replace it. I added some screenshots any ideas sprint or the phone. Thanks
Update 2. I'm connected to the tower but I don't have upload service, i have added more screenshots.
More details would help others help you out. What issues are you having, etc?
Just a vague one liner is not enough.
Sorry some of my apps don't work on mobile data but on wifi work fine, some websites too like sprint.com, I tried resetting network, factory resetting, no luck the apps think Im not connected to a Network, thanks
I think I'm experiencing the same issues as you are. When you try to load a site like Amazon.com or Slickdeals.net, Chrome just hangs. I've factory reset my phone, tried different browsers, and tethered my connection to another phone and the issue persists in every single case. The only way I seem to be able to get around this is by changing the "Preferred network type" to EvDO or by using a different cell tower.
EDIT: Also, using Safe Mode doesn't resolve this issue.

I found out it doesn't work well with clear wire towers you have download but no upload, you can download signalcheck app to see where you are connected, sprint towers are fine.
I have tried calling, chatting, even tech store,so far they have no record of the problem
I'm having the EXACT same issues on Sprint. I've tried every suggested change that I could find, but nothing has resolved the problem. Also, went into a Sprint store this week, but reception was impeccable at the store, which made it impossible to replicate.
Any idea if it's a hardware or software problem? I'm unsure if I should keep the phone or not (14 days is up next Saturday). If it is software-related, I'll hold onto the phone.

Download signalcheck and that will tell the type of network you are connected, i found out is the clearwire towers that are having the issue we don't have upload, i talked to a sprint rep and he is looking into it and i emailed essential to find out if software/programming or hardware related
Im attaching a screenshot with a Sprint tower, upload speed are good.
We have to keep calling Sprint until they knowledge the problem because according to them everything is fine, no record of this issue

Have you tried using a VPN client to see if the issue persists? I just found that using Onavo's app clears up the issue until this gets fixed by Essential. The only caveat is that my plan throttles VPN usage past 10 GBs.

Wow, this really works. All the sites and apps that wouldn't load properly worked without issue. Maybe just a software issue after all??

The Essential Phone is either sending data in a way that triggers Sprint throttling or is not routing data correctly.
I tested out a Verizon SIM card today and experienced no issue, which validates that there's not a hardware-level problem.
For this of us who have Sprint and may have this issue but don't know anything about vpn's, is there a cost and a tutorial on how to use one?

Cost is pretty low for a VPN service. You download an app, subscribe to the service (if it's not free), and enable the VPN service. Usually, you set it and forget it. I personally chose a free VPN service because I'm cheap and don't mind being the product.
i've used a vpn ap, you install it, click a button, the vpn is activated.. then you use the net... then click the button again to turn it off when you want...
so i guess i'm going to d/l a vpn ap again to have it on standby in case it's needed. any recommendations anyone?
sprint aught to be paying you guys for finding and diagnosing their problem. call corporate and complain
edit: i think it was turbo vpn ap i used in the past, going to install it again
If anyone wants to get Sprint's attention, then I'd recommend contributing to a Sprint Community posting I made here:

The more people that chime in on that thread, the more Sprint will notice and hopefully fix it or help Essential fix it.

Looks like we're getting a fix on 2/5/18, according to the Sprint employee that's been responding.
Turn off band 41
What I did was got into *#*#DATA#*#* --> EDIT--> MSL:000000 --> LTE --> Band 41 OFF --> Reboot. This solved all the problems with data like going to amazon.com, etc. Download speeds are still great, no issues with streaming movies. Don't have to use a vpm anymore. Still waiting for Sprint/Essential to offer a fix, but till then with 41 off I have no connectivity issues. Hope this helps.

I've had this issue occur several times. It's not 100% repeatable, but occasionally I lose 3G, 1X and all data connectivity after receiving a phone call.
I do NOT have WIFI enabled when this happens. I've seen posts referring that issue.
When this happens the only cure is a full power down reboot. Toggling Airplane mode doesn't work, infact it just hangs trying to toggle the mode. Toggling Mobile Network in settings doesn't work either.
I've seen this problem since the very first 2.2 leak on 7/27. I've also seen this running Virtuous 2.0 rom. I don't think this is ROM related, rather a generic 2.2 or radio issue (I've seen this happen on the 2.05 and 2.15 radio)
This problem seems to happen in low signal conditions.
Any ideas?
That's how it is with Verizon CDMA, no simultaneous voice and data. There is a network upgrade they can apply to correct it and give them more efficient use of bandwith as well but I guess they are not interested. I hear they are going GSM in the next few years anyway.

I wonder what that has to do with it. I thought that had to do with roaming which I wasn't.

I think that's mostly what they say first for any network problem.
It sounds like you have an app that is fouling your data connection. Do you have any third-party phonebook/contact list apps? I'd look there first.
As for the *228 Option 2 (or the PRL path for your carrier), that is standard telco procedure for "get off my phone, I want to go back to having my thumb up my backside." All it does is update your Preferred Roaming List.
You could try Option 1 or 3, which are programming related, but if your rep tells you Option 2, do not lie & tell them you just did it. VZW's system tells the rep the last time you did - including the date of your activity. However, you can snicker, knowing you got a loser rep.
Warning - listen carefully when using O1 or O3. Let it repeat the instructions if you're not 100% sure, else you will be calling tech support & possibly getting one of the losers. Or, you could get a gem. BTW - O3 is hidden - you have to trust it is there.

I've had my Atrix for a couple of days now, and twice internet connection with AT&T just stops working.
Going into airplane mode and then back to normal still does not fix the issue. Wifi works, however this should not be the solution.
Besides AT&T Gimping our HSUPA speeds and not providing an app for the FM Radio, the loss of internet connectivity is pretty annoying.
So far the only way for me to resolve the issue is to shut down or restart the phone.
Has anyone else experienced this? I have not rooted my phone yet because I want to see how things work stock.
Any information would be appreciated.

Gimping the HSUPA is...but how are not providing an FM radio app and the connectivity problem you're having AT&T's fault? Nobody else seems to be having a problem losing connection (meaning it's either you or your device that's gone bad) and the FM Radio not having an associated app is Motorola's fault.
Assign blame where it's due, plz.

Because AT&T is the APN providing internet access to our phones. Motorola has the FM hardware built in, AT&T is not making use of the FM Radio hardware which is already provided by Motorola.
If I was the only one with this problem, then others would not have stated they have the same issue.
So I blame AT&T when there is no connectivity on my phone because I'm paying them to be my service provider. AT&T also has restricted many features on phones which have applicable hardware.
Besides, you are not the authority as to who I wish to blame. If you don't have anything useful to post, then I suggest you just stay quiet since your reply is just wasting our time.

I'm having a WTF moment.
Got my preorder One last Thursday and have been having trouble getting it to connect to the Media Link HD dongle.
First, it seems to connect and pass through image to the TV but I get a message saying something like "be sure the TV is properly configured". Then, I get other messages saying that WiFi Hotspot needs to be enabled and to go to the AT&T website, or dial 611.
After over a half hour with a service rep, I was told that the Media Link requires a WiFi hotspot, which in turn requires that Tethering be provisioned on the account... for another $20 per month for a 5gig plan. Suffice to say I told the supervisor I was eventually passed along to that the practice of incentivizing customers to preorder and stay with the company by offering a free dongle only to be trapped into spending more money every month to use it is a tactic worthy of Tony Soprano.
The part that confuses the hell out of me is that if the Media Link and phone both connect through my WiFi router, why would Tethering/Hotspot to connect to the AT&T data network even be necessary?
So, anyone else have this problem and a workaround?

Like? Not even sure where to begin. The phone connects to my router just fine, so that's not it. This is a real head-scratcher.
Have you tried changing out of game mode? If its not that they are forcing you to use hotspot to spend more on monthly charges ergo why it was free. Or one more possibility its just a mistake in the software and they will fix it in a future update. I'm glad I don't have att. I hope for the best you don't have to use your own data, just to use the media link

No, you definitely do not need tethering / hotspot on your account. I use the Media Link HD with my One (AT&T version) without any issues and I don't have tethering on my account.
Make sure the firmware on your MediaLink is up to date and both it and your One are correctly connected to your WiFi hotspot. Also, be aware that any complex security settings on your hotspot could give you trouble.

The firmware version of my adapter is 5.19.103.1 with no unusual settings on my router, which is an older Liksys - the blue one with the dual antennas.
The dongle recognizes my network name and my One connects for a second until a dialog on the phone reports that hotspot is required and to go to the AT&T website or call 611.
I have never applied "unusual" settings in the router other than naming the network, broadcasting SSID and applying WEP.
Any help is appreciated.

Yeah, this is getting wierder by the moment.
Likewise I tried disabling security on the router with no results.
I just installed a tethering app which requires root (suggesting to me that it works around any block at&t put on the ROM), started the link and it disabled tethering in favor of WiFi.
Looks like one of us is going to be on the phone with AT&T and/or HTC this week. I already have about 45 minutes invested with an appointment for Wednesday to discuss the tethering issue. Where I'm concerned, how I use my monthly bandwidth allotment is my business and they have no right to dictate limits to what I pay for within the confines of my plan.

Have the same issue, and putting the phone in airplane enables me to connect it with my tv but only for about 20 seconds. After that, the phone will
tell me that there's something wrong with usb tethering setup thus kills the connection. So technically, connecting the media link with the phone
triggers tethering on the phone, either usb or mobile data which are somehow blocked by atnt.
With regards to gaming mode, it's a mode on my tv that draws in extra frames to smooth things out, only it had a hard time working mostly lag.
As for the media link I doubt I'll need one, as my tv is a D8000 so runs wireless anyway.

Pretty much for the moment. I tried flashing M7's ROM and it worked fine. Seems AT&T has blocked the WAP/Tethering function in either the kernel, radio, or the ROM. So, the solution would seem to be:
1) Find a ROM you can live with and flash it.
2) Find a Kernel (or radio, if that's what it is) that works with the stock AT&T ROM and flash it.
3) Wait for AT&T to get their heads out of their asses to realize that they're screwing their customers who have peripherals like the Media Link which connect via WAP and fix it in an OTA update.
Rumor has it that there's a 1.29 update out there somewhere. Let's see what happens. In the meantime, those of us who are in this boat should call AT&T's technical support and give them an earful for pushing disfunctional equipment on us. There's plenty of advertising hype from both AT&T and HTC about how cool the phone is, but nothing in the advertising literature that says how they crippled the phone.
I'm in the same boat here. There is another thread about this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2242737
If I can't figure out a router configuration that fixes it, I may experiment with "rooting" and then trying to kill the com.htc.tetheringguard app. I'd definately rather have it work through my wireless router like it should, but not if I've got to leave the network open/unsecured!

I am rooted, froze that app (along with all the other AT&T bloatware) with Titanium and it still doesn't work - no link action, no tethering, either.
Frankly, I'm pissed. I understand why they inhibit tethering, especially for those of us who are on unlimited data plans. There are always guys that will abuse it. But this phone came that way from the factory, which means that even those who are on 2G plans are screwed. In either case, if I'm paying for data, it's up to me to decide how fast I want to use it, the same way as if I were to pay for a tank of gas in my car, it's not up to Exxon to tell me I can't drive on the highway.
I was supposed to have received a call back today from the AT&T supervisor to discuss options, but (surprise!) no call. Looks like I'll be having a word or two with them tomorrow - and I have half a mind to demand a full credit on the purchase price of the phone for the amount of time I've spent jerking around with them about this.
The details:
So I recently acquired my Nexus 4 on the T-Mobile $30 plan, coming from it's brother the Optimus G on Sprint.
It is rooted and running CM11 and I have been using Spare Phone and GrooveIP for VoIP calls with no problems whatsoever. I finally decided to pull the trigger and use the Play Store app to add LTE support since my area supports it. Got that working too so I'm feeling good, but I realized shortly after that I cannot make a VoIP call over data now. WiFi still works perfectly, but on data it will ring and connect but there is no audio sent or received from either party.
I reverted back to my working backup with no luck so I did the adb/fastboot method of returning the phone to the stock image and then rerooting, reinstalling the rom and then testing VoIP over data and still no luck. I then proceeded to reinable LTE and it works again.
So in short, I tried to revert to stock modem and APN settings with no luck, but I am currently on the .98/.33 hybrid modem with the fast.t-mobile apn settings again. Also not sure if something in the *#*#INFO#*#* menu could have messed it up, but that's why I reverted to stock...
The question:
Is there any other reason all of my VoIP apps would stop working over mobile data, but still work on WiFi?

A few people including myself have been discussing this issue in the thread I linked below. We haven't really found much out, though it seems that it is T-Mobile at fault when you consider all of the variables. Here is an argument by user Ztone:
"What helped me was arguing that I know five other users who's issue started happening exactly at the same time and only on T Mobile's network. There are only 4 components to this: the phone, groove IP, Google and T Mobile. It cannot be the phone or groove IP if many others are experiencing the same thing at the same time (not to mention the fact that I had wipe the phone and reinstalled everything clean). It can't be Google because then it wouldn't work on wifi. This leaves T Mobile. My Tech troubleshooter from t-mobile had me delete the data from Google IP and restart the phone. While I had the phone off she did something on her end to refresh something on T Mobile's network regarding data coming to my phone, then after I restarted the phone. It still didn't work, then she asked me to try on wifi and then it worked perfectly. That seemed to be the tipping point, when she escalated it to engineering. Whatever that means. But I was told to give it 72 hours. Yeah, I think we need to make some noise to T Mobile."

So did you say when you re-enabled LTE the calls worked again? If so that would be a good temporary fix.

Thanks for pointing me to that thread, I'll read up shortly. This all started for me between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Re-enabling LTE does not fix it. I actually thought that broke it at first, but since reverting to factory settings didn't fix it I figured I might as well continue to enjoy LTE even if VoIP is broken.

Yeah, unfortunately we have no solution yet. I'm in the same boat as you. I'm just glad it works over WiFi.

Tonight I'll test Spare Phone on my wife's (my old) Optimus on Sprint. I expect it will work normally and will report back to rule out the app itself since I will be using my same Google account.

Confirmed that VoIP on data works with Spare Phone and GrooveIP on other networks.
It appears that I am back in business with no change on my part...
On Oreo beta2 I can no longer connect to the SIP server when the phone is on any WiFi connection. App works fine on mobile data but not on WiFi, no matter where the WiFi originates. This happens on Zoiper, CSipSimple or any Voip App. Was working on 7.1. Seems there is something blocking the connection to the server. Any thoughts?

Ditch the apps. SIP functionality is built into the standard phone app. I am using it with VoIP.ms.

Thanks for the tip. I didn't know that was available but the same problems exists with the native dialer. Account will register on mobile data but not WiFi. Something is blocking it. Very frustrating and i don't know what else to do to troubleshoot this.

Just tested this myself with Oreo beta 2 using the internal dialer and it worked fine.

Perhaps your router (or service provider) is blocking a necessary port. I would start with researching which ports need to be open for SIP/ your VoIP service functionality. Then checking your network and router, with some app or other, if it is open or closed. Then creating a port forwarding rule to your device if necessary. Note this advice is just theoretical as I have not had to do this. Perhaps someone with some similar experience could further advise...

I have thought about this as well but that would not explain as why it happens on my home wifi, my work wifi, my friends wifi... All with different routers and service providers. It must be the phone or rom issue or possibly some app doing this. Googling this brings me to others mainly with a Pixel phone with the same problem.

Sprint OMA-DM cause?
OK so i was digging into the phone to try to solve this problem and found something interesting. There was a n APP called "Spring OMA-DM" that i found was using data on my phone. I use T-Mobile so i didn't think i needed anything Sprint on my phone. Since i am rooted i decided to remove any APP on the device that had a Sprint name. There were three i removed. Once i deleted these APPs my WiFi connection for my SIP starting working. I wonder what Sprint is trying to do. I bought this phone on Amazon but it was from a private seller and he obviously got it from Sprint but it was unlocked and i never had any problems. I think everyone might want to beware of this.
