A really annoying Problem, i hope someone can help:
After a fresh start of my OP2 the Camera works fine, i can take pictures, videos and so on.
When i close the camera app and open it again, the screen stays black and the camera app freezes.
After a reboot of the phone, the camera works again until i close the camera and open it again.
What i tried:
Different Camera Apps, Deleting App Data, Custom Roms, Stock Roms, complete Factory Resets with different Tutorials including complete Wipes.
Any Idea? Thank you very much!!

I updated my Nexus 4 to Kitkat recently and now I am facing problem while taking pictures.
As soon as an image is captured the camera makes a cracking noise from the backside. Sound is like some switch going on and off "tik tik tik tik"
and then if I minimize the camera app phone can used and camera app can be closed and reopened again.
But if I keep it cracking then within 2 secs the phone freezes and restarts itself.
I tried using other apps like Cymera and I am able to take pictures without any problem.
This problem occurs 50% of the times I use stock camera app. Sometime works fine sometimes hangs up.
How do I get rid of this?
Google support suggested factory reset. I have not rooted my phone. Is there any way I can backup few important apps with their data on PC before I try factory reset?

I think its caused by camera's focus mechanism and it is just a little click noise but yes sometimes it makes very audible noise, especially with HDR function(which does not focus when you press to focus it just seems green. It only focuses when you move phone or it is just me). Can you check and listen closely if other camera apps doing that click noise when you focus ? I dont think factory reset solve this because I do several factory resets and flashing 4.4 it does not change a thing.
I get that ticking sound as well but only sometimes when I open or close anything that uses the camera, never during focusing. I can't imagine factory reset would help but if you're gonna give it a shot I'd recommend Helium to backup apps https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup though I think you'd need root to backup any system app data.

I did factory reset and tried camera it was working fine. Then google started installing my apps and after that was complete I started getting the problem again. So I got skeptical about some app making the stock camera malfunction. I removed an app called cymera and rebooted the phone.
and to my relief it started behaving awesome like before

How did you get rear camera to work on CM13 and CM14.1? Camera app is force closing and after that if i try to reopen it I have a message "can't connect to camera".
I wiped everything that I can. A lot of times. I tried fixes in samsung s4 thread (with camera restart and mod). Nothing is helping. BTW, frontal camera is working perfect, but it's a kinda hell to take photos only with frontal camera.
Oh, i forgot to add. Before force closing system freezes for a nearly 10 sec.
im on cm 14.1 on lenovo k920 and everything working fine except few bugs which i hope will be solved in new updates as it is in developing mode....
try to flash room again and do a format and see if it solve your problem and dont forget to backup your important data
Today in the morning the camera was working just fine, but suddenly the app crashed. And when I started it again all was blurry, and the focus was not working anymore. I tried to clean the app cache, do a factory reset and I even flashed 3 different ROMS and the problem was not solved. Is there anything I can do?
Mine has had issues since new, here is what I do, try at your own risk. Open the camera app and give a good tap on the top of the phone (obviously not too hard). I think the cameras physical hardware sticks sometimes.
So... in the last year or so, during one of the updates t-mobile sent down... my camera stopped working...
If I clear the cache partition, the front-facing selfie cam will work again... but only in some apps, and only for a little while, eventually it will stop working, and I will have to boot into the bootloader and delete the cache partition again to get it back... (clearing the cache / data from the app settings does nothing).
Also, it only makes the front camera work again... the normal camera just plain doesn't work (if you try to use it, at best you get a black screen, otherwise the app will just freeze 100%).
I tried formatting the whole phone, wiping all the data and restoring it to factory defaults, but it did nothing to help with that (except fixing the front camera temporarily again...).
Any ideas?
Are there bluetooth cameras that can replace the native android camera in apps? (I can use a digital camera, sure, but I can't easily use that with apps like snapchat, etc.) -- anything else I can try?

- auto brightness fails to balance the brightness (full light or no light at all)
- portrait mode freezes the app
I already tried to perform a factory reset many times with no success.
I'm living with this problem since first android 9 release. Right now I'm completely annoyed by this.
Is there any way to reinstall the whole system or any other way to fix this issue? I must say that the camera works fine with other apps like instagram, WhatsApp video calls and skype... Looks like something related only with the stock app.

What rom do you have? Factory reset does reset the whole system. You can try to use unbrick tools to flash every partition new but this will be the same.
