I have my eye on the mate 10 pro, but being an Honor 8 user right now, I know how slow Huawei can be. How has the Mate 9 been maintained? Have you received regular security updates? would you recommend the Huawei Mate series using your past experience? Thanks

Hi...
Since i bought mate 9 pro in May I got 4 updates. If You asking about my recommendation i just want to tell then now im waiting when mate 10 pro will be in my country to buy it...
For me it's a completely phone for daily use.
Before I was using Honor 7, 8 and after honor 8 i buy mate 9 pro and in my opinion that was the best decision

I can say that there is no month I don't receive an update, and I'm pretty happy with the support and updates.
I'm deciding between the Mate 10 Pro and the Pixel 2 XL.

Great news, thanks. M10P has so much more going for it over the Pixel 2 XL. only thing its missing is the blue tint!

Indeed, overall Mate 10 Pro is better device, but still I want to give a try to the Pixel 2 XL. Worst case scenario, I sell the Pixel 2 XL and buy the Mate 10 Pro.

I discarded Pixel 2 XL for all the screen problems, and moreover Play Store is not available in my country, so any warranty for screen defects will be a pain in the ass.
I saw the Mate 10 Pro in a store, and the screen was not bad, but FHD after 3 years of QHD are kind of noticeable for me.
For the moment, I'm waiting for the HTC U11+, which seems the perfect device on paper, and the few users that have it, are reporting an awesome phone.

With the release of more and more details about Android N, does it seem possible a niche phone like the huawei mate 8 will get it? It seems to focus on performance much like this phone does. Itd make a perfect match which makes me believe that it won't release for us. any thoughts or anyone wanna spread some hopeful words?
looking at the pretty insane update speed for the mate 8 ever since it came out, im actually very positive concerning nougat for our device even the mate 7 finally got marshmallow (albeit with some delay), so the mate 8 should fare even better (meaning a faster adaptation to nougat). im not worried

aaaaah 6.6 inch display. u just threw the number out there without any context, that was confusing ^^
and btw the linked pics show an honor model, so it cant be a mate...besides, the mate 9 is rumored to be based on a new SOC, they wouldnt reuse the kirin 950 for two subsequent mate generations

If progress goes well for the Kirin 960, EMUI 5.0 (most likely Android N) will come out near the end of 2016 with Mate 9. If Huawei follow its track record with the Mate 7, Mate 8 should receive this major update a few months after the Mate 9 is released, so Mate 8 owners should get Android N somewhere in the first half of 2017.
yep, that sounds about right

So I had a quick conversation with the Honor US team. Their customer support agent (Who was very kind btw) hasn't received information about any future updates or Oreo. I'm starting to become a little skeptical about getting Oreo on our phone. Also multiple articles about Huawei devices recieving Oreo have been taken down. Let's hope for the best.
Hope our Honor 8 will get O, but if no, we have reason for buy a Pixel devices like Pixel 2
If we don't receive Android O I return to iPhone devices

But we do need to consider the price of this device. I paid 290 dollars for my phone and a pixel or iPhone will cost somewhere around 700 dollars.. That's nearly 2 and a half times the cost of this phone. In no way we can compare this phone to those phones but yes Honor promised 2 years of updates and they should live up to it.

Me too. They rolled out Nougat pretty early for our devices when compared to other devices. My phone was running Nougat before my friend's Galaxy S7 Edge.

I hope we get it, mainly for two reasons:
1- to get Oreo itself
2- so honor can release source code of Oreo for the development
They have to upgrade us to Android 8.0 due to this policy

if not, we could do a class action lawsuit.. they havent even release an security update from April 5th 2017!!!!

Despite this policy the Honor 5X only received one OTA but was well supported because it had a Snapdragon SOC inside.

I don't think that means anything about a firmware update. They could update Emui and provide security updates for 2 years and fulfill that promise. Afterall, security updates come out very often and though most manufacturers ignore most of them, they are there every few months for the taking. So Huawei throws one of those out every now and then and they keep their promise. I hope we get it like everyone else but I don't trust any of those wormy cell phone manufacturers.

They said the same things with Nougat. I come from a Lumia 630 and as you know Microsoft said that ALL the Windows phones would be updated to Win10. Well in the end 1/3 of them received the "update" a crappy bugged beta. The rest was out, with even ms services down.
So is better for them to don't say anything if not confirmed.
Seems Honor 7X was a hit in the last few months, and Honor is coming up with a decent new phone View 10, a flagship one. How are the three phones in function, durability or affordability? Will Honor really be a xiaomi killer in 2018? What do you guys think?

V10 is a flagship and worth for money... Actually they Targeting OP 5T with their v10
After 2 great years with my mate 9, I have to say it's been a good experience but it's time to move on. Because Huawei is locking up their bootloaders, restricting lots of stuff and the lack of custom roms, I'm think of going for the OnePlus 7, Mi Mix 3 855 snapdragon/ Mi 9, maybe for Sony's new flagship or something interesting coming out in Q1.
Do you have any suggestions?

That's the fact I hate about huawei, my mate 9 was really good...
I'm thinking about taking Samsung galaxy note 9 when I get enough money to buy ?
I went with the OnePlus 6T for one reason. Lack of support for USA models without having to root/flash.
Understandable, considering how the U.S. government threw them out.
Had 3 mates, loved them, flawless, good value, but, with no security patches, or other updates, I went to the
OnePlus 6T.
Probably the latest Mate whenever I want to upgrade, most likely in 2020 or very late this year. This is a very good phone, also updated pretty well so I have no complaints about that.
No more bootloader unlock? Yeah, no more Huawei for me (or recommendations for others)...
That's the thing like I really miss having custom roms and now that Huawei is being more closed (they are even blockingg third party launchers) it's a real bummer that I can't be free with my own phone and can't get any support from the xda community. My wife has the mate 10 pro and loves it so much and I love the mate 20 pro too it's such an amazing phone but no bootloader unlock is a deal breaker for me
Next one for me I think is going to be a Oneplus (whatever number is out at the time). Samsung can go take a hike after all the crap I've dealt with, even my Work device (Samsung S8) doesn't get much use. I convinced the wife to get a OnePlus 6 and aside from some network issues (I think my carrier is the issue, not the phone), its been really great.
.....anything except huawei
There isn't any phone really appealing to me right now, and my Mate still works great.
I might change the battery at some point to keep it fresh, but I don't plan on changing it anytime soon.
Wtf 7pro had stable 10 all ready obviously OnePlus put 6t on the back burner ? I know beta meant to come out soon but what the hell man
Well now. It's not their flagship anymore, so this is standard. Companies don't have infinite resources!
The fact is we had Android 10 betas on the 6t before 10 was released, this is unheard of outside of Google devices until now. And OP jumped right in.
They're doing great! Every OP phone I've owned has had better support than the one before so IMHO they're really working on improving themselves.

What sensor issues. I don't have any sensor issues on my Pixel 3a XL running Android 10. I also don't see the rush for Android 10 on this device. However, I don't like not having the latest security patches.

I have the August security patch, and I'm sure the September security patch will release with the Android 10 open beta. The OP6T is well updated compared to any smartphone, with the exception of the Pixel series.

Not particularly worried about this, neither particularly eager to have 10.
What I would like to know, though, is if the security updates will continue till the update to 10 or if they will stop until we will be able to update to 10.
That's what worries me.
I put 10 on my Essential PH-1...I use nova launcher and keep the 3 button standard arrangement. Not into the swipe menu stuff.
I couldn't really see any "real" difference between 9 & 10.
When it comes, I'll wait a week, just to be safe. I prefer stable over "new".
I really liked the PH-1, but the OnePlus 6T in my area has a better signal than the PH-1.
