Hello,
So I have had my Nexus 6 for about 2 months now. I really liked it right out of box. The display, speakers, everything! (Also first Android / Nexus device, coming from a long line of iPhones) So I originally had a 32GB Midnight Blue. I did have a minor issue with it, and ended up getting Motorola to replace it with a Brand New 64GB Cloud White. (LONG story) I now like my Nexus 6 even more than I already did! I love the Cloud White! I think it looks awesome with the Silver Frame and White Back. Especially in my Ringke Fusion case.
There is more to this though. I kept wondering about the new Nexus 5X and 6P. Not a fan of the 6P appearance or Huawei in general. I was however interested in the 5X. For some stupid reason, I felt like I had to give it a shot!
So I seen that Amazon had them up for sale now. (actually shipped and sold by Amazon) Knowing how awesome Amazon is with returns, I gave one a go.
So, first I will say that I think the 5X is pretty nice. It is Unique in its own way. I liked the design, fingerprint sensor, and the camera. It worked great! I had zero issues with any lag or yellowish displays that I seen in reviews / complaints. But in the end, I couldn't make the switch, and I sent it back.
I just could not go from the 5.96" Amoled Display to the 5.2" LCD. Don't get me wrong, the display on the 5X is pretty damn good. If I had went straight from my iPhone 6 to the 5X I would have loved it! Going from a 4.7" LCD to a 5.2" LCD would have been a nice upgrade. The Nexus 6 ruined it for me though! It is my first Phablet and first Amoled phone.
When I put the 6 next to the 5X, the colors and blacks were WAY better on the 6. However, the whites were WHITE on the 5X, were the 6 has that TINY cream tint. Long story short, in my opinion, it was not worth it to me trading a 5.96" AMOLED display and dual stereo speakers for a Fingerprint Sensor, USB C, and better camera.
So here I sit with my Nexus 6. It is good to know that I won't have to worry about considering a new phone for about a year. (I am officially a Nexus lifer) I will see what Google has on offer next year, but it will take a hell of a phone to get me to want to switch.
PS: I also realized that I was trying to compare and justify switching from a phone that was originally $650 to a phone that was originally $430.... I should have known better.
Nice!!!
What about some pics to see your ringke case? i have the same nexus white and im thinking to get one. I love my nexus too!!!
Thanks for sharing your expierence.
:good:
Welcome to the android/nexus FAM. I'm dying for that white phone but with the same ringke case with the black sides and dbrand carbon fiber skin I forget its blue.
Nexus 6 is a pretty awesome device. Contrary to what it might seem to many about it's 6" display, its the best part of the device.. Pretty sleek and beezless

Everything is great about it except for the camera, which is horrible compared to its peers. Pathetically bad in low light and the front facing camera is a complete waste of time. It's surprising honestly.
That said, I still prefer this one over my 6S Plus. Outside of the camera. Marshmallow on a Nexus 6 is a dream come true. Minus the lack of landscape on the home screen which makes next to no sense haha
I just ordered a nexus 6. Wasn't keen on the 6p and I've read of issues. The 5x looked nice but I have a Galaxy S4 and didn't want to switch to LCD. I'm excited and should be getting my nexus 6 next week maybe. $200 brand new.

I used to have an iPhone, but in 2013 I got a Galaxy S4 and became hooked on Android, rooting, and customizing. I love Philz and that was my recovery vs. TWRP. I really didn't like the direction Samsung is going, they are going head on against iPhone with the copy glass back and whatnot, plus with the Exynos and Knox, it's not a developer friendly phone. It's my first Nexus and I am super excited !:good:

I wouldn't say the camera horrible, it's actually now better using the new google camera app in lowlight.
I've had some very decent shots using the camera during the day with HDR+ enabled, even some lowlight shots haven't been all that bad, I've seen worst my Galaxy Alpha takes terrible low light pictures compared to the Nexus 6.
As for the front camera i don't use it, so don't really care about that tbh.
HDR+ is pretty cool

Just wanna say thanks for sharing. I was thinking about getting a 5x and it crossed my mind about the size difference. I still may get a 6p idk bit definitely in a rush. I am happy with my Shamu and I owe that to all the great kernel and rom devs we have on Nexus. Thanks everyone.

Which carrier do you have ? You may be right. My understanding was a lot of unlocked cell phones work with GSM (AT&T and T-Mobile), but not CDMA (Sprint, Verizon). Nexus 6 may be an exception to this. I looked at a Sony Xperia awhile back and that is what I was told. If you have Sprint/Verizon and are able to get it to work unlocked, I'm interested as to how that works.
I assume Googgle's Nexus 5X/6P works with all carriers.
Edit: I see you have T-Mobile so you should be OK.

That is so not true. There is only one Nexus 6 model number for all of North America. It is XT1103. It works on Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, and all of their MVNO's. It is fully CDMA and GSM compatible, just like the 5X and 6P. I originally purchased my Nexus 6 factory unlocked from Amazon. I am using Straight Talk. (Verizon SIM)

Hi all,
I currently have a HTC M8 One with a semi-functioning charge port. I don't want to pay $150 to have it fixed. So, I'm looking at what's out there and coming. The specs on the Nexus 6 P look great but the HTC M10 one and Samsung Galaxy S7 also look great. I'm leaning towards the Nexus6 p but is there anything that makes this phone stand out?? I'm currently on Verizon and thankfully the HTC m8 one has a nano SIM. So activation should be pretty simple.
All depends what you like. I used to buy flagship phones and I've always bought Nexus every time one came out and imo there's just no device like a Nexus device. Maybe OPO but yeah Nexus is the real deal, pure uncut Android. Roms and kernels run better and have no bugs like other devices. It all depends what you like. For me I'm all Nexus and this 6p is by far the best one ever made. The camera is amazing and CPU is great too. Battery life is great. Just depends on what you like really..

I had a galaxy s6 activated already on Verizon. All I did was take the sim out and put it into my 6P. You can't try and activate the 6P itself because they will tell you that it is not supported on their network. You have to use a sim that has been activated for a previous device.

With devices and carriers seemingly becoming more and more locked down, I'd highly recommend the n6p for you on that reason alone. I came from a VZW galaxy note 4 and I was very disappointed with the lack of root and development options. Although I will say that, it being my first Samsung device, I did eventually see very little reason to NEED root.. However now that I'm back on a device with more freedom I'm remembering how much I missed the features you can't get otherwise.

All I did was call VZW (to my understanding you should be able to accomplish the same by going into your local VZW store) and had them overnight me a nano sim card, only because I was coming from Note 4 with micro sim. I popped the sim card in and after about 5 min on the phone with customer support I was up and running.

Personally, if you're on the fence about it, don't get it. The phone speaks for itself spec wise, and on the hardware level. Stock everything, so fast updates, etc.
If you're into the HTC / Samsung, you're mainly doing it for the software tricks / gimmicks, but also puts you behind the 8 ball as far as updates.
I would have personally waited for SD 820 devices since they are only about a month or so away at this point. And please don't give me the typical apologist "there is always something better around the corner" line. I'm completely aware of that, but there are plenty of devices gonna be announced in less than a month and some releasing shortly after that.
If they were 6+ months out then I would say to dive in head first. But unless you 100% want stock android, there is very little reason to get one at this point.
Just ordered a gold. I have a rooted S6 on Verizon which runs great. But...I want a device running latest and greatest, larger display, and better battery life. S6 has been a delight besides multitasking being borked and battery life. Only things Im really scared Ill miss is the Touchwiz theme engine (yes i said Id miss a touchwiz feature! Lol), and the superior display technology. There are some gorgeous themes on here

One thing you can't argue is the build quality from Huawei compared to HTC and Samsung. Regardless of the software packed into the latter manufacturers, there is no denying that the build quality is far superior.
I had the 6p on two different occasions and ended up returning each of them because it just didn't feel right in my hand. I went back to my trust Nexus 6 and the solid feel is there and the software is right up to par with the 6p.
I'm a fence sitter, i currently have a nexus 5, that is currently running stock, as i was intending to trade it and use the money to offset a nexus 6P.
A few things have kept me on the fence with the 6p such as:
Lack of QI charging, or any cases or accessories to add this - Yes QI charging is slow, in some cases much slower however its incredibly convenient, ive even got a couple of QI chargers with built in batterys that are almost the same size as the nexus 5 put one in my pocket next to the nexus 5 and it charges the phone wirelesly in a pocket
Difficult to repair, I will quite happily take something to bits to fix it, if required and the build quality and ease of disassembly is one of the criteria i look at, the 6p is far from simple to disassemble, the other option would have been nexus protect, but thats not available in the UK.
The bending thread, plus seeing the demo uints at car phone warehouse with the same bend/kink round the button
My sim only plan/network/carrier, at the moment i have a sim only plan for £15/month (approx US$21) for that i get, 2,000 minutes, 5,000 texts and completely unrestricted no limits all you can eat/use as much as you like 4g data with unrestricted all you can use 4G tethering, again no limits no restrictions, unsurprisingly my network Three is no longer offering this, and moving customers off this plan onto something else - the nearest equivalent will cost £20 a month ( US$43) and will see my minutes drop from 2,000 to just 200 with 4G/3G tethering capped at 12GB/month ( handset data remains all you can use ) at the moment im still on the sim 15 plan, but for how much longer I dont know, if anything changes it may be worth getting a phone on contract. ( The US carriers probably offer cheaper/more generous deals. )
so for now I'm intending to keep my nexus 5 going a little longer
New stuff wont available until end of march/April in most cases. Plus the price is at its highest when it's first released
Since Verizon is not selling note 7 anymore. They are all canceling the note 7 contracts and giving your upgrades back and billing your credit for what you have paid for the payments plan back.

I am thinking of going to a LG V20. First I will check to determine whether it might end up having a Verizonized Interface like the Note 7. I guess checking in with the V10 and G5 owners be a good indicator. If so, bye bye VZW! If we keep the Note 7s, we'll never see Nougat (or any update). I might even put up with the crappy resolution and go with an Iphone 7 plus (401 or 402 ppi .......Yeacccch!)
I'm hoping they'll let customers keep their note 7's as they're not going to refurb them, since it's being cancelled altogether.
I haven't been able to confirm nor deny whether it's possible to keep the note 7, but I'm hoping.

It looks like you are correct. I just logged into my business account and it suddenly shows that line eligible for an upgrade.
128gb Pixel XL in Silver just ordered. I'm done with phone swaps. I still keep the 2gb monthly bonus data. Unfortunately the Pixel isn't eligible for the Annual Upgrade Program which was a big part of why I bought the Note 7 knowing if it was poor it was only for 12 months. Did it online so they charged a 20 dollar upgrade fee. I will be calling tomorrow to get that refunded along with 35 bucks for the hand laid carbon fiber case I bought for the Note 7 that is now worthless... even as a paperweight lol. I'm also going to make sure I get the 300 dollar (over 24 months) credit for the Note 7 trade in and the Daydream Viewer. Even if I don't get the 35 bucks for the case I can sell the Gear VR, 256gb SD card and Fit 2.... It'll work out.

Was a rhetorical question really. I wouldn't expect V to refund me for something I bought elsewhere. Still sucks though. I sure hope Best Buy will honor a refund given the circumstances.
The thing that ticks me off is that the N7 had pretty much dominant specs when compared to other 2016 model phones/phablets but it is what it is.
What other modern phones (on vzw) are root friendly and have big ars screens? Was eyeballing the pixel but No MicroSD is a big bummer for me and who knows about rooting Android N (7.1) Moto Z looks pretty nice. Apple is NOT an option. Made that mistake already for 4years.

I'm seriously thinking of going for a Pixel XL 128gb. With 128GB of storage none of which being used for pics I don't need an SD card. Plus I like the idea of getting Updates right from Google rather than waiting for a V'ified OS 6months after Google. But that LG v20 looks pretty nice.

If you guys are getting pixel xl, might as well as get it from Google. Verizon's obviously slow down the updates + bloats, I mean it's frigging Verizon. Downside is the wait time for getting from Google is long...
I'm kinda liking the v20 more as time goes on. It's got a lot of interesting features, which is why the Note 7 is a lot of fun too.
The Nexus 6P is really good, so the pixel should be better. Sure is ugly, but everything is after the Note.
The iPad Pro is starting to grow on me but the phone is probably too much. Good to have a mix. Android and iOS aren't anything alike. Good or bad.
I'd be happy to just keep using the Note. There's something that really stinks about the current hysteria. I'd take my chances.
S7 Edge for me. Rather than repeat the post I made in another thread, I'll just link to it
I pre-ordered the Pixel XL 128GB. If I don't like it I'll exchange it for the V20.
I ordered a Pixel XL. Going to keep my Note 7 too. If I don't like the Pixel I'll return it

If you guys are getting pixel xl, might as well as get it from Google. Verizon's obviously slow down the updates + bloats, I mean it's frigging Verizon. Downside is the wait time for getting from Google is long...

Verizon won't slowdown updates. Verizon will handle the updates but it won't get delayed. Just like they do with iPhones. Verizon's version will have 3 Preinstalled apps which you can remove them. That's pretty much it

And a locked bootloader. I understand that's the price of most Verizon phones, but on a Google device?! Buy it direct.
I just broke down and pre-ordered the Pixel XL 128GB. Hopefully I wont miss all the special little Samsung perks like QI, water resistance and Samsung pay. Luckily, our company purchases the phones on a one year contract so If I hate it I can grab a Note 8 (or whatever they replace it with)
Waiting to preorder the LG V20. I got a Gear Fit 2 and a 256GB micro SD to use with it. ?

I ported to AT&T where LGV20 pre-orders are available. Pre-ordered 2 V20s arrival date 10/24 through 10/27. I tried to pump VZW to learn when they would get the V20 with no luck (that info is probably only high high up) ...so back to AT&T we go! At least the free cloud storage is 50 gb as opposed to 5gb (on share plans) and a higher probability of enjoying an unadulterated LG experience (remembering what VZW did to the Note 7 Samsung cloud and device maintenance settings....We are currently using an old AT&T Note 3 and a Nexus 6P (running Android 7) while we wait.

That's how I feel about the pixel, don't know what exactly but I really don't like no SDcard. The lack of an SDcard was the reason I passed on the Note5. I had actually planned to keep the Note 7 until the Note 8 arrived but they seem to be making that difficult. I'm looking at the Moto Z Force and LG V20, neither of which I like as well as the Note 7. It sounds like the Moto Z will never see root so that kills it for me. The LG doesn't really impress me that much either but it does seem like the best option at this point. I just wish I would have kept my Note 3 (sold it on eBay), maybe I'll reactivate my old Note 2, lol.
Moving on to the Pixel XL 128GB and got a free Daydream VR for pre-ordering it from Verizon. Just wish Samsung could find and fix the problem because the Note 7 is as close to the perfect phone for me that I've ever used. Personally, I think a smaller battery would fix the issue. They just squeezed to much battery into to skinny a phone I think.
Just curious what the feeling is on upgrades right now? I'm sure the S8 will be awesome, but will it be $1000 USD worth of an upgrade from the S7E especially now that Nougat is available and soon Google Assistant...? I was excited at first, but the more I think about it - I'm not sure... I think I'm going to hold off and see what the Note 8 will be like. Opinions????
I'm feeling ready to upgrade, I can jump and my s7e is on its 4th back glass (i don't do cases) and has a few scratches on the front... it's got plenty of horsepower but I just don't love it anymore.. I guess s8 is the way to go, I'll have to put a case on it i guess but I'm also worried it isn't much of an upgrade and the size is a bit odd. What other contenders in the Android world are really as nice?

I just upgraded from the G5.
I'm ready to upgrade, but I just haven't found a phone worthy. A OnePlus 3t or Pixel XL would do, but aren't available on JUMP
I just read an article about the bench test speeds of the s8+ and it was only marginally better than the s7/S7E which is shocking. I think it was on bgr?
I own my S7E, so I want to be blown away by a new phone to get locked into another $1000 contract installment plan.... Of course I don't know how accurate any information is before actual release. Then add to that, I feel there needs to be some real world reviews (ie: note 7)...

835 is more about efficiency (same as kirin 960) than raw speed. That large of a jump in screen size will negate any extra sot though

You didn't like the LG v20? Man, I wanted the phone bad.... I was so upset I missed the 1 day sale on those for $360!
If you traded your v20 for S7E, maybe it was the best thing I didn't get it.... Lol ?

It was a fine phone. I've had terrible luck with LG screens. Everyone i get is stupidly uneven with grey spots or bright spots and backlight bleed. My g5 had insane backlight bleed on the bottom right but I got it for $120 on the bestbuy.com deal so I didn't care. V20 had a large area of slightly darker screen on the middle right.
Traded my mate 9 for the v20 so there was no going back. The mate was a let down for me as well with insanely inconsistent battery life (compares to my mate 8 which was stellar)
Well I just rooted nougat on my S7E, which I've only had for about a month. I bought my S7E second hand... Before I bought it I didn't realize the usa variants couldn't be rooted in the traditional sense. Had I known that before hand, I may have passed on it? I dunno. It's a good phone, but rooting is what keeps me entertained. This engineering kernel method works, I guess I'll see how well it holds up.

I have a T-Mobile S7 Edge. I miss root myself. The entire time I had a G5 I had no access to a PC, now I have the S7 Edge and finally a pc but there's no real root for this phone. Browsing around here I see that new method you're referring to for nougat. Should I do it? What exactly is the benefit at this point?
Yup ill be upgrading. On tmo jump plan so ready now. Hoping the feel in hand of the s8+ is better than the s7edge.

That's a great question. I don't have a good answer.
Will be jumping to the Note 8 as soon as I can. Never wanted an S7e.
Same. Most of us were note 7 owners forced to get the s7e. I'll be waiting for the note 8.

Agreed. But I have to admit if Samsung's new business model is to lock the usa variants bootloaders, I will either consider an international (F) model or another device completely.
Rooting is important to me, assuming there is development for the device. And the lack of traditional rooting on new Samsung's is a real let down. Bad Samsung! Very bad!

I upgraded to this phone from my G5 without even considering it. I got a PC at the same time which i hadn't had before so I guess I disregarded it because I couldn't root anyway. Now that I CAN I sorta wish I had thought about it more lol. There's a guy who wants to trade for a regular pixel, I'm not sure it's worth it though.
not me... I'll wait for the note 8 lol
For me, I hated the s7 edge, a lot. I had it for 8 months and finally got rid of it for the ZTE max pro, and yes the people at Tmo looked at me like I was some crazy person, nice phone by the way the Z max z pro. I got the s7 last week for $360 on the one week sale tmo had as I've always liked the flat one better. The palm rejection even with a case drove me almost insane on the edge. Great looking phone the edge is but just about unusable. I had the s7 but jumped it for the note 4 last year and now that I have it back paid in full I have no thoughts of getting the s8, I really like the size of the s7, it's what I missed and didn't even know it. My note is for work as I need the production aspect of it, and the s7 is great for gear VR.
