T-Mobile/Oreo Roms - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

Any Oreo ROM I've tried recently I can't get volte/WiFi calling to work to activate. I'm using metro PCS and the trick on nougat ROMs to get it to work properly every time is to just delete the metro APN and use the T-Mobile one. Why this works, idk. I know it CAN work on Oreo ROMs because it did in earlier builds but I've abandoned all hope because it just won't work anymore.
Unfortunately at home I have little to no edge/3G for calling so I rely on volte/WiFi. I don't make much calls anyway so it's not too important but I'm wondering if anybody has a clue what the issue is? I'd like to be back on Oreo with all the progress that's been made.

[Q] Getting Data to work with Net10 on CM13 / other roms?

Hi there everyone,
I've been playing around with my roms and I've had problems with data on every rom I have given a try. I am currently using Net10 via their BYOP program, I seem to only be able to get working data on stock based roms, however, I would love to be able to use other roms as a primary driver besides stock, anybody have any suggestions on how I might resolve this issue?
I'd appreciate it a lot guys, I am at the point of utter confusion because after countless edits to the prop and other workarounds suggested around the community for adapting the phone to work with Verizon.. It appears this does not provide a solution to my carrier despite it working excellent on stock (Which should already be using the steps provided for use with Verizon?) , I have made no progress (except for at one point successfully obtaining 1x signal... Woo!) and I know for certain that many of these ROMS work fine with Verizon and Straight Talk provided SIM Cards, however, there seems to be no mention of Net10 or any possible solutions for my particular carrier since it appears to be oddball to many.

Anyone have a working custom ROM on Verizon/Sprint or other CDMA network?

I have only been able to get a stock image running on my G5 Plus. I can then load Magisk and get by but would really like to run PureNexus or RR. Every single custom ROM I have tried complains that the SIM card is missing on initial install which you can simply ignore and get the phone to basically work but you can never update your PRL or account settings over the network as the app just crashes the instant it's selected. And please don't tell me I need to insert a SIM card, of course there is a SIM card inserted it just can't see it.
Is there any US based developer out there with a G5+ on CDMA.
Maybe I am just missing something obvious but I don't see what it could be. My SIM is activated and works perfectly with the stock deodexed ROM.
Yes works fine on Verizon . My problem is the about phone has my device a xt1687 but I think it needs to be Moto g 5 plus to allow me to watch my movies I buy through Google
I'm with Verizon and like you I had a huge hassle getting LTE to work on any custom ROM except Pure Nexus. I think I tried at least 10 different custom ROMs and they all had the same issue upon the initial boot complaining about the SIM card, I simply skipped it of course. All the ROMs wanted to then just give me a constant 3G signal and no LTE. I tried a few things but ultimately all the ROMs started getting LTE and then I figured out that maybe I found the fix by luck. I'd logged onto Verizon and looked at some settings and noticed my phone showed up as a default device name. I simply changed that to something else and perhaps that fixed the issue while I was flashing all these ROMs.
Now my problem is different....it's backwards. LTE works great until i get in a rural area and then the phone wont change down to 3G or 1x. No signal at all for phone or text until get back into an LTE area. I think these issues have to be related to the APN settings the custom ROMs (except Pure Nexus) are using. I would like to copy all the APN related files from the stock ROM which works perfectly over to a custom ROM but I'm unsure of which files to copy. Try changing your device name on Verizon to see what happens after a few minutes. Worth a shot...

GSI LTE Fix

I've been messing around with GSIs and found that texting on LTE didn't work at all (at least on T-mobile). If you aren't experiencing this issue, then it's worth noting that all GSIs I've used default to 3g instead of LTE. Turns out it was a problem with VoLTE, and I found the fix!
The FIX!!
It's really easy, install the ims.apk that's attached to this post. That's it.
In case you don't trust me (which is understandable), you can compile it yourself by using this script
Any chance it solves LTE problems with stock OS as well?

IDK about what problems your talking about, but it definitely won't as the stock OS already has the necessary ims.apk.
In my case, even after installing this, (I use verizon) it won't even detect the sim no matter what rom I use...

So are you able to receive text messages on LTE now?

Yes, I'll usually have to reboot and it starts working properly
I'm using Havoc 2.9 on Verizon, and even with this app installed, I'm not receiving incoming texts. Any suggestions on what to do?
Edit: Never mind. After multiple attempts, it finally started working.

Really, you got everything working on GSI on Verizon?? What steps did you use? Is Volte working?

Yup. LTE seemed a bit spotty on staying connected though, and it seemed like sometimes texts didn't come through promptly compared to stock. I installed the ims.apk and selected TD-SCDMA/CDMA/UMTS in the Phone info menu (*#*#4636#*#*). Volte worked, but again, the overall stability of the connection didn't feel quite right. Unfortunately, the lack of Bluetooth media ability pushed me back to stock again.
Does anyone have the knowledge to make a Magisk Module making these changes? It would make it much easier to switch between different builds to test.

I tried this with Android Q variants and wasnt able to access Phone Info any more. Is this only intended for Pie based GSIs?
Thanks

I have yet to get an Android 10 rom to work on my phone AND my phone is currently out for repairs, so I haven't been able to test it for Android 10.

Quick Question, since you are on tmobile..
Are you able to use WiFi Calling with GSI ROM?
I am thinking of going to GSI Q ROM but need to have WiFi calling working since coverage at my home is weak.
Thanks,
RJR
My carrier just enabled VoLTE for me today and I gave it a try.
While VoLTE works on Havoc 2.9 with this apk, I couldn't properly hang up the phone call and I have to reboot the phone.
By the way, I'm also having the issue of being unable to access the Phone Information menu. Nothing happens after typing *#*#4636#*#* on the dialpad.
EDIT: Turned out I set the default dialer to something else (Emerald Dialer) and the system would refuse to send secret code from non-default dialer for security reasons. However, it appears third party dialers may not be able to handle such codes correctly as when I typed the code on Emerald Dialer, it crashed. I set the system default dealer back to the stock one and now I could enter the Phone Information menu.
However, I'm yet to figure out what might have caused VoLTE to get stuck when hanging up...

I just applied this fix on Havoc OS, and it works! However after about 2 minutes reliably, my phone changes to "No Service, Emergency Calls Only" mode. Verizon totally disappears. It appears IPv4 still passes the ping test, however IPv6 fails(2). I'm not sure how to fix this problem

I could never get Verizon to work at all on any Gsi. Have you gotten it to work on 9.0 Gsi roms?
I'm running Havoc (latest Pie version)
For the first 2-3 minutes after boot, I see 'Verizon 4G' as my carrier info. After that, the signal in the status bar changes to have a little x on it, and all branding disappears. It says No Service and Emergency Calls Only.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong

You can see if the Tmobile DIGITS app will work on your phone. I think it basically forces WiFi calling. I'm using an Android 10 ROM and DIGITS circumvents the no-texting on 3G issue. You can also set up RCS on Messages if you change your data to 3G, reboot the phone and wait for it to finish setting up. That doesn't exactly fix the SMS issues, but it at least is a band-aid solution, combined with DIGITS will effectively solve SMS issues altogether. And again, I am not sure, but I suspect that DIGITS is WiFi calling the app, but I could be very wrong on that. You can also force WiFi calling using adb, though I don't know if that actually works yet since I have not received or placed calls since manually setting it to on. Will report back.
EDIT: Forcing WiFi calling in ADB seems to have turned it on for good. I have the WiFi calling symbol even though I have no option in Settings.

Has anyone figured out the sms issue on Q gsis yet? It's the only thing holding me back, and I'd rather avoid the Digits app.
tried to install. installed. did not change anything.
edit: tested also from phone info - no IMS menu and no buttons for enable VoLTE.

Verizon network issues on AOSP ROMs

I've done a lot of reading on this topic and have yet to find a clear solution. It seems that others have very similar issues, some resolved and some not. There are lots of promising fixes out there but none that I have tried work for me. I'll describe the specific issue below, but first:
What I'd really like to know is if there is anyone out there still using a G900V with an AOSP rom and verizon service? Does the service work reliably? just like on stock LL or MM ? Is there hope for me to be able to use this phone as my daily? Now that I've had a taste of AOSP, I can't go back to MM or LL. The only reason I've held out for so long is that the S5 has removable batteries, is modifiable (thanks XDA devs!), and is now very cheap to replace. But could it be time to throw in the towel...?
The issue is, verizon service on any AOSP rom that I've tried, is unreliable. It works some places and not others. This is not just reception - I'm comparing to the same phone running stock MM or LL firmware, and these are all in metropolitan areas, the service exists for sure and has for years while using stock rooted LL rom. At my house for example, data works, mms, sms, and calls work (although sms are delayed). 4 blocks down the road, I only get data. No sms, mms, or calls can go out or come in. On a road trip recently and I get similar unreliability with the sms and mms. Fortunately, data seems to work most places which has allowed me to continue using RR-7 pie and not be totally in the dark.
It's similar to this issue here (roaming indicator off) and I have tried all of the things on the OPs list with 3 different CID15 phones (G900V): Different ROMs, changing APN settings, restoring QL1 EFS, changing preferred network types, different sim cards, etc, etc
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...delayed-texts-unknown-carrier-custom-t3838284
My knowledge of how it all works is limited but it seems to me like there is something about the AOSP roms that doesn't allow the phone to connect to the right bands? frequencies? protocols? As I do get some of the network functionality. If I TWRP flash back to stock MM (which I have done many times) it works perfectly, everytime, everywhere.

Did you ever get any updates about this behavior on VZW? Having almost the same issue on HTC M9 hima using AICP 16.1.

No data roaming on custom ROMs for Z00ED

I've had stock MM for two years, but recently it was starting to get really slow so I decided it was time to install a new OS. I've tried XenonHD, Lineage 16, AOSP and Lineage 17 but all have the same issue: I just can't get the mobile data to connect. I've tried all the common fixes for this issue suggested on the internet, like toggling airplane mode on/off etc, and I've checked that the APN settings are correct, allow data roaming is enabled and my data plan is still active.
I think it's some kind of issue with the ROMs, because someone else has mentioned that XenonHD won't connect to data while roaming. I'm currently residing in a European country that isn't my home country, and using the SIM from my home country since the provider has good value for money data plans and the EU has recently made it illegal for them to charge extra for roaming within its borders. So I think the devs need to catch up with the times and realise that data roaming is now fundamentally important for some users. Unfortunately, it looks like they have abandoned the ROMs they have put out, so I won't be getting any help from them directly. Does anyone else have any idea what I could do, apart from reinstalling stock MM? And I'd rather not buy a local SIM card right now since I'll anyway be moving to a different country in a few months.
I've since also tried ViperOS and MIUI 8, but still no data. From Lineage 17 onwards, my phone was also showing the wrong time and date, so there seems to have been some additional issue with the network connection (even though I could make and receive calls). I also noticed that if I would try to manually connect to the other available network here, immediately I would get the message "Unfortunately, the process android.com.phone has stopped."
So I've gone back to stock MM for now and the data came back. I would still appreciate if someone could fix this issue with the custom ROMs though so that I could use one. I think they are faster than stock and it would be nice to explore their features. It's a shame I can't use them just because of one issue. I will probably still need the data roaming when I move to another European country in a few months time.
