Is this the best variant for the G6? I currently have an offer to trade my V20 for this straight up. Wondering if I should pull the trigger.
Thanks for any info.

Depends on your needing...
You need Quad DAC, Dual Sim and 64GB more than root? If yes that's the best for you, if you need root you have to buy the US997 (not the one from us cellular) or the European H870
On a sidenote, personally g6 is not the best phone, I would rather wait for v30 or switch to another android brand, I have been very dissatisfied with lg mobiles except for the lg g2 which was the best. Just personal thoughts.

I'm at the Moment on Mate 9 Porsche, but got good offers to sell it! :silly:
So, Samsung is a nogo, but the lg g6 would be great, IF there is a full root!
I never owned a LG, so will this get unlocked bootloader and root?
Talking about the H870 Dualsim with 64GB!
Cheers

Probably only on the European H870, so not the G6 with 64 GB. I'm saying this looking to the G5 situation.

Probably at some point but only the EU version and it'll take time.
But the 64GB is also H870, so should be the same as the europen H870 SingleSim? Or i'm wrong?

Actually the G6, not korean, dual sim with 64GB of internal memory is the H870DS, which is not the same as the European H870

Both the H870k and H870DS are available here in Australia. According to LG Australia the H870DS sold here has dual sim, quad DAC and 64gb. Supports all the band's for Australia, which the Asian version of the H870DS doesn't. So their is even further fragmentation, even within the same model number. Confusing as hell.

Agree, this is pretty confusing.
But for the bootloader unlock i'm almost sure that this model won't have it.
Doesn't LG unlock boot loaders for phones that are not carrier branded?

It'll probably be the EU version and T-Mobiles US
What are the differences between those two in terms of stock software?

Right do you really mean the Korean version or do you mean the H870DS as the two are different.
The Hong Kong Asian H870DS is much the same as the European model albeit it has dual SIM support and is currently unable to have it's bootloader unlocked.
It has 64gb and Quad Dac.
The Korean model is different in that it comes with a number of specific Korean apps that many of can neither be disabled or uninstalled. Only a few can be disabled. Likewise the dialer on the Korean model will show Korean characters below standard numerical digits, it also has dual clock on the Lock-screen because it consistently thinks it is roaming, so you have to use a work around to disable the dual clock from showing Korea. It also can have trouble with networks and international dial assist numbers as again it presumes the user is Korean and roaming, even with another country network SIM.
There are also parts of the GUI that remain in Korean such as sounds in settings.
Essentially the Korean model is NOT the one to get if you want clean software or not have a headache.
---
But you can get the Asian H870DS model as it does not suffer from those issues and comes with same language support and without the problems the Korean model has.
However if you plan to unlock the bootloader in the future, the EU H870 model would be a better buy, but software wise it's much same as the H870DS.

I need to have dual SIM support and 64gb. On auction which I'm following is written that, this is model H870DS and has DAC. I don't want to get that Korean software. How to check if it's the Asian model?

The H870DS is not the Korean model so you will not get the Korean software.
The model number for Korean model is G600L
If it's listed as H870DS you will be getting Taiwan/Hong Kong version with software much like the EU H870 but with the dual SIM, extra storage and Quad Dac.

Hi all,
I'm about to buy a G6 too and wonder which model to choose...
HK model (H870DS) is very interesting since we got double data storage and QuadDAC (and dual SIM but don't need it) for less than the European H870 model.
But...there's a but (and a big one), i'm a Nexus fan (Galaxy Nexus->Nexus 4->Nexus 5->Nexus 6->Nexus 6P->back to Nexus 6 cause of 6P battery issue) so i like stock Android and all flashing things. And H870DS bootloader can't be unlocked (and will never be from what i read about previous Gx models).
Recent Android interfaces/overlays are much lighter than before but I think I'll miss the possibility to flash all the things (did you say "flashaholic").
I think i could find a H870 in mint condition for the same price of a new H870DS but i would have full 2 years warranty.
Since we now have official TWRP, development will surely grow for G6.
Do you think Custom ROMs will handle well specific G6 HW like 18:9 screen ratio or Dual camera ?
So I have been looking at an LG v20 on ebay, there's different sub - versions for every country and carrier. This website has been pretty helpful :
techwalls.com/lg-v20-model-numbers-differences
I have ATT which is the H910/915 models. The H990DS is extremely similar with 2 bands missing in the LTE CAT12 area.
My question is, what does that really mean for me? Worse reception? LTE won't work at all? Do I still get use of an SD card slot and removable battery? Etc. Thanks!
I am using H990DS. It has removable back and SD card option. It is also tune by B & O. However i am not sure about network band, whether it will work for you or not, as it is country specific.

I have always owned either Nexus (non-LG versions) or Samsung so I'm not really familiar with LG products. I'm going to get a V20 and the question now is which one? Is there any difference in the DAC in the H990DS version vs the North American versions? I've heard that the H990DS is the official B&O version and the North American ones are "tuned by B&O". The quad DAC is one of the reasons why I want this phone so if there is a significant difference I may consider it. If not, I'll probably go with the US996 unlocked version or the AT&T version.
The US996 will cost me slightly more but the unlockable bootloader may be worth it. I'm in Canada and the AT&T bands are close to ours and generally work well with our carriers. so the H910A will be OK. AFAIK the second SIM in the H990DS only supports 2G so that will be useless to me since 2 out of 3 of our largest carriers were originally CDMA and never supported 2G. Both of the North American versions do come with a warranty, which is a bonus. The AT&T is the cheapest of the three but I have heard that their bootloader is a pain.
An unlockable bootloader and the ability to root is the most important. I'm going to keep it until it dies. Music quality and warranty is next. I do love music and I plan to invest in a good set of new headphones once I get the V20. I want to take it with me and test several so I don't have anything in particular in mind at this time.
I appreciate any help and guidance that anyone can give me. I have spent a lot of time trying to find out about the DACs and I really can't find any information. Thank you!
Hello. I need an advice. I am planing to buy an unlocked LG G6 but I am thinking between H871 At&T and H870. H871 is 50us$ cheaper, but because I live in Europe I'm not sure will I be able to get updates without active at&t sim. I have G4 H810 and I cannot update because I have no active at&t sim. Will I have same problem on H871? Any advice?
Is it that H871 operates on different frequencies and LTE may not work? http://www.phonemore.com/lg-g6-h871/specs/3247
While reading G6 forum, I have noticed that all "improvements" all modifications are for (mostly) H870. and as you said, you live in Europe, why risk it?
Yes and off-course, as adamsek said, you must be aware of different frequencies.
H870, the price difference will cover better reception and bootloader unlock.

And warranty !
It does seem that because I am not using an AT&T sim, I cannot get any updates. Best to get H870 with updates and root possibilities.
Don't forget that G6 will certainly never get Oreo.
Are you sure? I've rea something different: G6 is in Android Recommended Devices list, so LG has to roll out Oreo, and has said that will do this in Q2 2018.
